Dennis Aprill

Dennis Aprill has been the Outdoors Columnist for the Press-Republican since 1990. Aprill was presented the State Professional Communicator Award by the New York State Council of Trout Unlimited in 2004, and he has won numerous writing and photography awards from the New York Outdoor Writers Association, the most recent, two first places in 2004 for his columns. In 2000, the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation Earth Day Media Partnership Award recognized his Outdoor Columns, and in 1999 the Woodmen of the World named Aprill their Conservationist of the Year. He has been a New York State licensed guide for the past 20 years.

Aprill has published two books: Paths Less Traveled (Pinto Press) and Good Fishing in the Adirondacks (Countryman Press). He is co-author of the field guide Mammals of the Adirondacks.

In addition, Dennis Aprill teaches English and Journalism classes at Plattsburgh State University. He lives in an "out-of-the-way" area of the Adirondacks with his wife Kathy and two teenaged children: Colin and Karalyn.
