Virginia C. Defendorf

KEENE — Virginia C. Defendorf, 84, of Keene, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She was born on April 3, 1916, in Troy, the daughter of William and Henrietta (Clark) Macey.

Mrs. Defendorf ran Defendorf’s Motel in Keene for most of her life.

She is survived by three sons, Pank Defendorf of Morristown, Tenn., Richard "Joe" Defendorf of Batavia and Nelson Defendorf of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Mary Shackett of Keene; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Nelson Defendorf, who died in 1982.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Marvin's Funeral Home In Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan 3, at 11 a.m. at the Keene Methodist Church.

Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery in Keene.

Memorial donations may be made to the Keene Methodist Church, the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, the Keene Ambulance Squad or the Keene Valley Ambulance Squad.

Stanley Moskwik

MINEVILLE — Stanley Moskwik, 67, of Wall Street in Mineville, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at the Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1933, in Mineville, the son of the late Albert and Anna (Gwozdiewicz) Moskwik.

He is survived by two sisters, Viola Searles of Port Henry and Anna Beebe of Moriah; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Stacia Moskwik and Helen Cox; and his brothers, Henry Moskwik and John "Ted" Moskwik.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Douglas Robson Chandler, 99, Professor Emeritus at Wesley Theological Seminary in Wash. D.C., died of pneumonia on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in the Wilson Health Care Center in Gaithersburg, Md.

He was born in Mooers on March 30, 1901, the son of Charles and Katherine (Orr) Chandler.

A memorial service will be held at the Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Md., in early spring. A service will also be held in Mooers in the summer.

Antonio A. DeSimone

MINEVILLE — Antonio A. DeSimone, 86, of Sherman Road in Mineville, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Community Hospital in Elizabethtown.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 14, 1914, the son of Stefano and Mary Therisa (DeMarco) DeSimone.

He was a foreman for the D&H Railroad for many years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. DeSimone is survived by his sister, Yolando Lahtinen of Plattsburgh; his brother, Thomas DeSimone of Keeseville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Argie DeSimone, Lillian Abbott and Rene Martin; and his brothers, George DeSimone, John DeSimone and Alfred DeSimone.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. at the Church of All Saints in Mineville, with Father Michael Toth officiating.

Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the spring.

Elsie D. Wright

CROWN POINT — Elsie D. Wright, 89, of Russell Street in Crown Point, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.

She was born in Ft. Ann on June 14, 1911, the daughter of Scott and Elizabeth (Combs) Davis.

She was a resident of Crown Point for more than 80 years.

Throughout her life, besides being a devoted wife and partner, mother and grandmother, Elsie was a deacon in the Congregational Church and actively involved with the renovation of the Hammond Chapel and in the establishment of the Knapp Senior Center. She also was a member of the Methodist WCF and the Congregational Ladies Aide Society.

She was predeceased by her husband, Willard "Bill" Wright; her son, David W. Wright; her grandsons, Peter D. Wright and Andrew W. Treadway; three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her daughters, Paula Corwin and her husband Lloyd, Rita Treadway and Willa McLaren and her husband David; her sons, Earl Wright and his wife Kathy and Carl Wright and his wife Gwyl; her sister-in-law, Devona "Midge" Davis; 18 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Crown Point Congregational Church at 1 p.m. Following the service, relatives and friends are invited to the Knapp Senior Center for refreshments.

Interment will be in the spring at the family’s convenience.

The family requests that contributions in memory of Mrs. Wright be made to the Knapp Center, the AE Phelps Rescue Squad or the Congregational Church. All are located in Crown Point.

Rachel Bechard

Champlain — Rachel Bechard, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1918, the daughter of Charles and Georgenna Dubuc.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Felix Bechard of Champlain; two sons, Laurent and Cindy Bechard of Champlain and Conrad and Beverly Bechard of Chazy; two daughters, Aline and John Ethier of Champlain and Connie Dubuc of Plattsburgh; four brothers, Hector Dubuc of Attleboro, Mass., Phillip Dubuc of Mooers, Morris Dubuc of Mass., and Loe Dubuc of R.I.; four sisters, Bertha Garvis of R.I., Sister Juliette Dubuc of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Irene Cruslin of Mooers and Evelyn Zakouski of R.I.; ten grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Rachel is predeceased by a sister, Jean Duquette; two brothers, Paul Dubuc and Laurent Dubuc; a grandson, Gerard Y. Ethier; and a great-grandson, Darrin Wells.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary's Church in Champlain.

Richard "Dick" Cheverette

Petaluma, Calif. — Richard "Dick" Cheverette, 67, a retired federal Internal Revenue Service officer, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at his home in Petaluma, Calif.

Mr. Cheverette was born in Plattsburgh and lived his early life in Peru.

In June, he and his wife attended the 50th reunion of his class at Peru Central High School where he excelled as a basketball star and also played baseball.

He served in the Big Red 1 Division of the U.S. Army in Germany. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam and taught school in New York State before enrolling at the University of Arizona where he earned a masters degree. After several years of teaching, he joined the U.S. government to serve with the IRS. He retired in 1985 as director of training for the Western Region of the IRS.

Dick loved horses and betting on the races. His life long hobby culminated in ownership of a race horse and enjoying the experience of the winner's circle!!

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary K. Cheverette of Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter, Laura Carlos of Novato, Calif.; sisters, Marian Mulbury and Ruth Ann Simmons; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Educate America, 21 Tama Vista Blvd. #209, Corte Madera, CA 94925, a charitable organization with whom Dick served as a board member for several years.

Phillip A. Gilroy

Plattsburgh — Mr. Phillip A. Gilroy, 82, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Clinton County Nursing Home.

He was born in Beekmantown on March 30,1918, the son of the late William and Dora (McCrea) Gilroy.

Phillip had worked at the American Legion Post 20 for many years and was a painter by trade.

He was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.

Phillip is survived by a sister, Irene Deyo of Plattsburgh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Francis and Clarence.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 9 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Evaleen (Cichocki) Griffin

Plattsburgh — Evaleen "Evie" (Cichocki) Griffin, 84, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in New Baltimore, N.Y., the daughter of the late George and Mary Ellen (Mosley) Travis.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, Joseph Cichocki and Henry Griffin and was the last of 8 brothers and sisters.

She retired from Berical's Restaurant in Bellevue after many years of employment.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Chuck Wilson of Cadyville; a son, Joe Cichocki of Ballston Spa; grandchildren, Michael and Kathy Cappa of Hastings, Fla., David Cappa of Las Vegas, Nev., Jennifer Cichocki of Saratoga Springs and Jeffrey Keator of Durham, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Cappa of Hastings, Fla., and Dallas Wilson of Cadyville.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeLegge Funeral Home in Schenectady. Services will be on Friday, Dec. 29, at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home and at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated.

Burial will be private in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.

Mary Blaise Jaghori

Woodbridge, VIRGINIA — Mary Blaise Jaghori, 43, of Greenwood Drive in Woodbridge, Va., formerly of AuSable Forks, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, as the result of a car accident on Pigeon Hill in AuSable Forks. She had just arrived from Va. to spend the holidays with her family.

She was born in Keene Valley on March 9, 1957, the daughter of Howard and Harriet (Lawrence) Blaise.

Mary received her bachelor degree in Art Education in New York State. She also attended Mary Mount College in Va., receiving her degree in Special Education and she was working on her masters degree.

For the last two years she taught 7th and 8th grade Special Education classes in English at the Mark Twain School in Fairfax County, Va.

She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed needle craft, artwork and contacting friends on the internet.

Mary is survived by a son, Jason Jaghori of Va.; her ex-husband, Ahmad Jaghori of Afghanistan; her father and mother of AuSable Forks; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Mike Jacques of AuSable Forks; a brother, Frank Blaise of AuSable Forks; four nephews, Eric, Brian, Clifton & Michael; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved Golden Retriever, Red.

Mary was predeceased by her brother, Timothy Blaise.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks and burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the EImore or Westport Humane Society or the AuSable Forks Ambulance Service.

Jean Connell Roberts

BINGHAMTON — Jean Roberts, 57, of Binghamton, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her home.

She was born on June 7, 1943, in Cadyville, the daughter of William and Patricia Connell.

She is survived by her children, Bill and Kathleen Roberts of Va.; Bob and Shelli Roberts of Vestal; Michelle and Michael Moon of Deposit; six grandchildren, Ashley Swackhammer, Ryan Raker, Seth Roberts, Katelin Roberts, Michael Moon Jr. and Patrick Moon; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Claire and Earl Winch of Cadyville, Suzette and Earl Drollette of Richmond, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Church of Binghamton and worked as a manager at the American General Finance Company.

A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, Dec. 29, at noon at St. Paul’s Church of Binghamton.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Hospice Program at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital or the Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Augustine M. Robidas

Plattsburgh — Augustine M. Robidas, 81, of Fatima Street in Morrisonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 30, 1918, the daughter of Arthur C. and Melvina (LaVarnway) Goddeau.

Augustine was a graduate of Cadyville High School and Our Lady of Victory Secretarial School in Plattsburgh. She had been employed by Pal Blade in Plattsburgh for 10 years, then by Georgia Pacific for 29 years, retiring as the department head of payroll in 1983.

Augustine was a member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.

Augustine is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Robidas of Morrisonville; a son, Matthew Robidas of Walls, Miss.; two grandchildren, Danielle Robidas and Justin Robidas of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and George Rock of York, Penn.; a brother-in-law, George St. John of Cadyville; a sister-in-law, Catherine Goddeau of Cadyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Augustine was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Maurice whom she married at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh in 1946 and who passed away on May 26, 1966; four sisters, Eleanor Goddeau, Grace St. John, Evelyn McDowell, Jeanette Goddeau; and a brother, Charles Goddeau.

Calling hours will be Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at 11 a.m. from St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville.

Burial will be later next year in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora.

Donations in her memory may be made for Masses or to the St. Alexander's Building Fund.

George L. Dion

Rouses Point — George L. Dion passed into the presence of our Lord on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Rouses Point on April 16, 1934, the son of the late Philippe and Gladys (Brothers) Dion.

He was married on Oct. 12, 1963, to Patricia Dea.

George was a life long resident of Rouses Point and a member of St. Patrick's Church.

Mr. Dion retired after 37 years from Georgia Pacific Corporation.

He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus for 39 years and a member of St. Patrick’s choir.

Most important to him was his love of his family, his camp and his love for singing.

Survivors include his wife Patricia; two sons, Phillip of Albany, and David of Allen, Texas; two sisters and their spouses, Therese and Walter Connelly of Plattsburgh, and Madeleine and Alan Ryan of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Home and proceed to the funeral home for ceremonial services. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29.

Frank L. Stone, 93, of the Clinton County Nursing Home, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., on July 22, 1907, the son of Frank F. and Mary E. (Roberts) Stone.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at 9 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later next year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh with military honors.

Arrangements are with Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Frances "Sandy" Smart, 76, of Silver Lake Road in Saranac, died peacefully, Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at her residence.

She was born in Saranac on Nov. 2, 1924, the daughter of George and Rose (Etty) Goddeau.

A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, with Rev. Philip Allen, pastor, celebrating.

The R. W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Ryan, 91, of Neil Street in Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at her home in Saranac Lake.

Calling hours will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. in Saranac Lake on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A bible vigil service will take place on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at St. Bernard's Church with Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

Leah M. Rock

Keeseville — Leah M. Rock, 92, of Scotts Lane in Keeseville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Keeseville on Oct. 21, 1908, the daughter of William and Matilda (Bezio) Abare.

She married Henry Rock on Sept. 26, 1927. They were married for 59 years. He predeceased her Jan. 18, 1987. She was also predeceased by one son, Gary; two grandsons; four brothers; and one sister.

Leah was a charter member of the Ladies of the Elks of Keeseville Lodge 2072, an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 1505 and a member of the Catholic Community Altar Rosary Society.

She is survived by four sons and their wives, Dick and Peg and Ron and Kay of Keeseville, Herbie and Joyce of Plattsburgh and Bill and Veronica of Kissimmee, Fla.; one daughter, Bev and her husband Wayne Farrell of Fern Lake/AuSable Forks; 26 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville with Rev. Garvin Demarais, pastor, celebrating. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following Mass at the Keeseville Elks Lodge.

Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Elks National Foundation.

John M. "Jack" Lattrell

Keeseville — John M. "Jack" Lattrell, 53, of Pleasant Street, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh following a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Keeseville on April 26, 1947, the son of William and Catherine (Lavalette) Lattrell.

He graduated from Keeseville High School in 1966. He married the former Julie McNierney on Oct. 5, 1968, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville.

Jack was recognized as an expert stonemason and contractor, having designed and built many structures throughout the North Country.

In March of 1999, Jack and Julie traveled with a relief group to Honduras where he built homes for victims of Hurricane Mitch.

He was a past member of the Keeseville Fire Department and Rescue Squad and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Lattrell of Keeseville; two sons, John Michael Lattrell of Jersey City, N.J., and Jason Lattrell of Keeseville; one daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Ryan Burns of Saratoga Springs; his mother, Catherine Lattrell of Keeseville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Ann Lattrell of Westville, Ill., Alfred "Skip" and Margaret Lattrell of Raritan, N.J., and Robert and Joanne Lattrell of Keeseville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Janice and Bud Cooley and Loretta Rose, all of Wilmington, N.C., and his twin sister, Joan "Jill" and Richard Wood of Keeseville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father in 1953; and his brother, Edwin "Bucky" Lattrell in 1990.

Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 30, at noon at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Rev. Garvin Demarais, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or the Keeseville Fire Department.

Frieda Sandberg Talbot Hoflich

Westport — Frieda Hoflich died at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1904, in Willsboro, the daughter of Alfred and Amanda (Swenson) Sandberg.

She graduated from Willsboro High School and married Lee Allen Talbot. He died in 1932 and she later married Warren Hoflich in 1947. He died in 1984.

Mrs. Hoflich worked as a cook at the Essex County Jail and at Shepardson’s Nursing Home in Wadhams.

She is survived by one son, Lee Allen Talbot of Chenango Forks; three daughters, Mrs. Brandon (Evelyn) Brant of Westport, Wanita Hoag of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Mrs. Carl (Shirley) Podgee of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers.

There are no public calling hours. Funeral services will be held at Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. There will be committal services and burial in Memorial Cemetery in Willsboro in the spring.

Doris E. Graziano

Colonie — Doris E. Wagoner Graziano, 82, entered into eternal life Monday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2000.

Born in Albany, the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Benson) Wagoner, she was a lifelong area resident.

A homemaker, she was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Mercy.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Graziano Jr., who passed away July 16, 2000; loving mother of James J. Graziano and his late wife Mary of Latham, Judith Arnold and her husband Paul of Lady Lake, Fla., Jean Scott and her husband Frank of Colonie, and Marcia Russell and her husband William of Keeseville; cherished grandmother of Lori and Christopher Geer, Frank Jr. and Jeffrey Scott, Jeremy, Matthew and Andrew Russell and Tracy and Joey Graziano. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home in Albany on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 11:30 and 12:15 p.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Mercy. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in the Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie.

Agatha R. Lemieux, 62, of Covillebay Apartments in Westville, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

Born in Malone on Jan. 27, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Ethel (Lamica) Rivers.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Martin Farrell officiating. Burial will be in the old St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Covington in the spring.

Paula M. Levitt, 76, of Johnson Avenue in Lake Placid, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid.

She was born in Belgium on Nov. 23, 1924, the daughter of Louie and Amelie Sluyts.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with the Rev. Mark Demers officiating. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth C. Fitzgerald

TICONDEROGA _ Ruth C. Fitzgerald, 83., of 18 Ell St., Ticonderoga, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Vermont Medical Center in Burlington following a brief illness.

She was born in Silver Bay July 11, 1917, the daughter of Richard J. and Mary (Adams) Church.

She was a graduate of the Hague High School class of 1934, and she graduated from Mildred Wily Secretarial School in Albany.

Ruth worked with personal celebration for 33 years for Fort Ticonderoga. At the time of her death, she had served as historic interpreter at the fort. For her many years of dedication for Fort Ticonderoga, she had the distinction of being named by the Fort Ticonderoga Association as a lifetime honorary member. It is estimated that Ruth, during her tenure at the fort, had personally greeted more than 4.5 million visitors.

She was the former post mistress at the Fort Ticonderoga post office for years up until its closing. She was recently featured in a PBS television feature and also appeared in numerous newspaper and magazine publications all regarding, "Ghosts of Fort Ticonderoga."

She was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a former member of the Ticonderoga Catholic Daughters.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband, John A. Fitzgerald who died March 22, 1971, and one brother, James Church.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel and daughter-in-law Sue Fitzgerald and Mickey Fitzgerald, both of Ticonderoga; three daughters, Peggy Massey of Lake George, Mary Ellen and son-in-law Richard LaBounty of Ticonderoga and Susan Colburn of Missouri, adopted grandson Wes "Red Hawk" Dikeman of Fort Ticonderoga; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and one nephew.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A traditional Catholic Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ticonderoga with the Rev. William Muench officiating.

Ruth will be buried in St. Mary’s Parish cemetery beside her husband in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the North Country Association for the Visually Impaired, 301 Main St., PO Box 1338, Lake Placid, NY, 12946.

Lloyd A. Sharrow

WHALLONSBURG — Lloyd A. Sharrow, 85, passed away at CVPH Medical Center on Saturday, Dec.23, 2000.

He was born in Moriah April 25, 1915, the son of Nelson and Florence (Broughton) Sharrow.

Lloyd was a life-long resident of Whallonsburg and a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York Iroquois Lodge 715 for more than 50 years.

He enjoyed working in his woodshop, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (LaMountain) Sharrow; a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta and August Carlsson of Brushton, a daughter and son-in-law, Linnie and Leslie Ruben of Huntington, VT; a granddaughter and her husband, Judy Lynn and Darin Hooser of Norfolk, VA; a grandson and his wife, Rodney and GayEllen Carlsson of Plattsburgh; a great-grandson, James August Hooser of Norfolk, VA; great-granddaughter, Olivia Scarlet Carlsson of Plattsburgh; a sister, Florence James, and a sister-in-law, Ada Sharrow, both of Whallonsburg. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 1 p.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro. There will be burial services with Masonic honors in the New Burt Cemetery in the spring.

MARY E. LASHWAY, 83, of Keene died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, in Elizabethtown. She was born in Saranac Lake Jan. 27, 1917.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Spring burial will be in Norton Cemetery, Keene.

Memorial donations may be made to the Keene Ambulance Squad or the American Diabetes Association.

LOUISE KINNESTON LYNCH, 70, of Manassas, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at home.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lee Funeral Home, Manassas, Va.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, Alexandria, Va. Burial will follow in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Alexandria.

Joseph J. Medwick

Fishkill, N.Y. — Joseph J. Medwick, 80, of Fishkill, died Dec. 22, 2000.

He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on May 4, 1920, the son of Joseph and Helen (Hayduck) Medvec.

Mr. Medwick was a retired machinist from Danbury Printing & Litho, Danbury, Conn., and had lived in Yonkers and Sommers, N.Y.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, 38th Division, in the Pacific Theater. He married Eleanor E. Kellman on June 28, 1947, in St. Peter’s Church in Yonkers.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Beacon Council 0445 and St. Mary, Mother of the Church, in Fishkill.

He is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Joanne Medwick of Saranac Lake, Richard S. Medwick of Patterson, N.Y., and Edward D. Medwick of Wappingers Falls; three brothers, Stephen Medvec of Arizona, John P. Medvec of Larchmont, N.Y., and Albert P. Medvec of White Plains; a sister, Helen Longo of California; and three grandchildren, Sandra and David Medwick of Wappingers Falls and Joseph Medwick of Saranac Lake.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor, on Nov. 27, 1994; a son, Robert Medwick in 1948; and a sister, Josephine Franz.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes, Inc., 1028 Main Street in Fishkill. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Burial will be at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Fishkill Senior Citizen Center, Main Street, in Fishkill.

Leah M. Rock, 92, of Scotts Lane in Keeseville, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

At her request, there will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville, with Rev. Garvin Demarais, pastor, celebrating. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the Mass at the Keeseville Elks Lodge. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Armand U. Briere, 91, of Whippleville, died Saturday morning, Dec. 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He had been a patient there since Dec. 8th.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone from 9 to 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone, with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in the spring.

Lloyd Sharrow, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
