Dorothy M. Murdock
PLATTSBURGH Dorothy M. Murdock, 88, of Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Dec. 22,
1999, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Manchester, N.H., Aug. 7, 1911, the daughter of Merton and Nettie
(Taylor) Lario.
She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She is survived by a son, Harold Germain of Dannemora and Florida; a daughter, Melva
"Peg" Hedges of Lisle; two sisters, Eileen Schillero of Ryebrook and Florence
"Tootsie" Bushey of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, James, died Aug. 4, 1988. Two brothers, Harold and John Laurian of
Brainard, Minn., also died earlier.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the ONeill-Redden-Drown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Funeral
Home chapel.
Burial will be in Union cemetery in Mooers Forks in the spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
Collette G. Fuller
WEST CHAZY Collette G. Fuller, 60, of Duquette Road died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999,
at CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Detroit, Mich., June 15, 1939, the daughter of the late Albert and
Gertrude (Potvin) DesOrmeaux.
She had been a bookkeeper for her son, Michael Fuller of Fullers Drywall. She was
a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
Collette is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Caroline Fuller of
West Chazy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Chris and Michel Hebert of Plattsburgh and
Marlene and Paul Sarbou of Schuyler Falls; her companion of 17 years, Donald Bishop of
West Chazy; a brother, Denis DesOrmeaux of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Dylan, Jakob,
Matthew, Katelyn-Collette, Anna and Cody; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael E. Fuller; and
a granddaughter, Zowie.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 28,
1999, at St. Peters Church at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples
Mausoleum on Tom Miller Road.
Friends wishing may make donations to the Heart Fund or have Masses said in her memory.
Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
MICHAEL R. LEFLEUR, 23, of 53 Cedar St., Malone, died Thursday, Dec. 23,
1999, at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake. He was born in Malone Feb. 22, 1976.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the
Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home, Malone, with Monsignor Dennis Duprey officiating. Burial
will be at his grandfathers home on Constable Street, Malone.
Donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Country Inc. of Malone or the
Muscular Dystrophy Association Inc.
CARL R. GARVEY, 75, of Maple Street, Willsboro, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at
CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. He was born in Willsboro Oct. 26, 1924.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4, Sunday Dec. 27 at the Huestis Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Willsboro United Methodist Church.

ELIZABETH WINKLER, 91, of 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 21,
1999, at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid. She was born in Munich, Germany, July 22,
1908.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:15 a.m. at St.
Bernards Church. Burial will be in Munich, Germany.
MARCEL R. DION, 72, of Brinton Road, Keeseville, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999,
at Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

William Anthony Vilardo
ABITA SPRINGS, La. William Anthony Vilardo
of Abita Springs, La., died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999. Born Aug. 24, 1946, in Ticonderoga,
he was the son of the late William Vilardo MD and Helen (Beers) Vilardo.
He was a 1964 graduate of Cranwell Preparatory
School in Lenox, Mass. and attended Loyola University in New Orleans, La. Mr. Vilardo was
a systems manager for AKM Incorp. and Volks Constructors Incorp. He was president of Abita
Recreation Center in Abita Springs, La. and league baseball president of the West Street
Tammany Dixie Youth Association League.
Mr. Vilardo was the beloved father of Victor A,
W. Brandon, Michael, Sterling, Evan, Julian, Anna, and Megan Vilardo; Shilo V. Bruhl,
Kelli V. Sommers, brother of Stephen, Michael and Joseph Vilardo; Sharon Maneri and
Valerie Ezzo; nephew of Joseph and Alfred Vilardo; grandfather of Dillion and Hunter
Gihaus. He is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited
to attend a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic
Church in Abita Springs, La. Interment will be at Abita Springs Cemetery. Friends may call

Viola M. Deyo, 89, of Deyo Road,
Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. She was
born on July 31, 1910 in Champlain; the daughter of Edward and Delia (Thibault) Dupont.

Rudolphn J. (RUDY) Gayzur, 70, of
Ticonderoga died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. He
was born Feb. 27, 1929 in Yonkers.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 9:30 a.m.
at St. Marys Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rite of Committal will take place

Sara C. Anderson
PLATTSBURGH Sara C. Anderson, 82, of
Bailey Ave., died Tuesday Dec. 21, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Rock
Hill, S.C. on Sept. 21, 1917 the daughter of Buist Somers Collins and Linnie Gray (Rogers)
Collins.
Sara graduated in 1935 from Kings Mountain High
School in North Carolina. In 1939 she received her Bachelors from Ashville Teachers
College in Ashville, N.C. Sara married Dr. Charles Brooks Anderson in 1940 in Chimney
Rock, N.C. She had a long career in elementary education teaching in Cherryville, N.C.;
Delmar; Rockhill, S.C.; Marrietta, Ohio and Chestertown, Md. During World War II Sara
worked at the Ogden, Utah Air Force Base in the Personnel Department. She completed her
Masters in Guidance Counseling at SUNY Plattsburgh in 1964. Mrs. Anderson taught at Campus
School, SUNY Plattsburgh, then she became the Guidance Counselor at Peru Central School
and then for Dannemora Free School, retiring due to health in 1974. Mrs. Anderson was a
member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. She belonged to various
professional associations in Reading, Guidance and Educational. Sara was an avid community
volunteer every place she lived. She was active in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of
America. Most recently Sara has belonged to "Ivy Home Dem" Group of SUNY
Plattsburgh and Home Bureau.
Survivors include, her husband, Dr. C. Brooks
Anderson of Plattsburgh; a son, Robert Ellis Anderson and companion Shelly Morrow, also of
Plattsburgh; one daughter, Suzanne Alice Anderson, of Aunt Hack Ridge Estates, Danbury,
Conn. Sara is also survived by her niece, Thelma Holland of Gastonia, N.C. and many other
nieces and nephews.
Sara was predeceased by two brothers, Somers
Collins and Ernest Collins; three sisters, Grace Ferguson, Ola Parrish and Helen Wheeler.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 23,
1999 at 2 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Albany
Rural Cemetery in Menands at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Donations in her memory may be made to the
"Fitzpatrick Cancer Center at CVPH" Medical Center in Plattsburgh, New York.
Margaret M. Lyman
COLONIE Margaret M. Lyman, 85, of Colonie,
formerly of Niskayuna, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Champlain Valley Physicians
Hospital, Plattsburgh, after being stricken at her daughters residence in Upper Jay.
She was the widow of Walter T. Lyman.
Born and educated in Troy, she was the daughter
of the late Martin and Catherine Coughlin Butler. She resided in Troy until moving to
Niskayuna in 1960. She had beena resident of Colonie since 1997.
Mrs. Lyman was a communicant of St. Ambrose
Church, Latham.
She is survived by a daughter, Carole McDowell,
Upper Jay; two sons, Kenneth T. Lyman, Cohoes, and Donald C. Lyman, East Greenbush; two
sisters, Joan Butler, Johnsonville, and Mary Mancino, Averill Park; five grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service 9 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose
Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends are invited
and may call Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at the Bowen Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.
Burial is in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery,

BETTY VIRGINIA COOPER, 66, of
the Haselton Rd., Wilmington, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, at her home in Wilmington. She was
born, Aug. 5, 1933, the daughter of Kenneth and Jennie Denton Pelkey.

Constable, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in
Malone. Born in Constable, Aug. 23, 1908, he was the son of the late Frank and Minnie
Denesha Williams.

Hector J. West
ROUSES POINT - Hector J. West, 91, died Saturday,
Dec. 18, 1999, at the Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.
Born in Mooers on May 19, 1908, he was the son of
Arthur and Celia (Manor) West.
He was married on Nov. 26, 1959, to Florence
Rushlow. He served in England in the Air Force during World War II. He worked for West
Lumber in Rouses Point as a finishing carpenter.
Mr. West was a member of the Knights of Columbus
2366 of Rouses Point and the American Legion-Montgomery Post in Rouses Point.
Survivors include a brother, Victor West of
Rouses Point; a sister and brother-in-law, Mrs. Viola LaMere and her husband, Leon of
Mooers; a sister-in-law, Louise West of Auburn; six nephews, Stephen West, Thomas, Randy
and Tracey LaMere, and Timothy and George Ashline; and two nieces, Phyllis Mooso and Becky
West.
He is predeceased by his parents; his wife,
Florence, who died March 24, 1997; two brothers, Emmett and Edward West; a sister, Edith;
and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Edith Ashline; and a sister-in-law,
Louise West.
Calling hours will be held Monday, Dec. 20, 1999,
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. The Knights of
Columbus will meet at the K of C Hall at 7:45 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed by the Rev.

Earl Phinney
Burlington, Vt. Earl Phinney, 89, died
Saturday Dec. 18, in Burlington, Vt. He was born in Westport June 20, 1910, the son of
Earl and Florence (Taylor) Phinney.
He was a lifelong resident of Wadhams and a
member of the Wadhams Methodist Church.
He is survived by one daughter and her husband,
Mary Phinney and Stewart Randall, of Milton Vt.; two grandchildren, and their spouses,
Tony and Maria Tur of Pa.; Jennifer and Philip Muir of N.C.; three great-grandchildren,
Anthony and Natalie Tur, Tegan Muir, two sister-in-laws, Joan Pierce and Betty Huba both
of Albany, and several very special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Lettie
Phinney, who died Oct. 19, 1989; they were married Sept. 22, 1932.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday Dec. 21, 1999
from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service
will follow at 3 p.m. at the Wadhams United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at

Irene Everleth
DANNEMORA Irene Everleth, 89, of 9 Hammond
St. died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Everleth was born in Dannemora on March
19, 1910 the daughter of William and Jennie (Lucia) Garrow.
She was the wife of Clifford Everleth whom she
married at the Saranac Parsonage in 1927. Mr. Everleth died in 1992.
She was a member of the Saranac United Methodist
Church.
She enjoyed caring for her grand, great-grand and
great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Everleth and
his wife, Shirley of Lockport; two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Ellsworth (Shirley)
Napper of Saranac and Mrs. Jared (Betty) Keysor of Dannemora; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth
Cringle of Dannernora and Mrs. Edith Downey of Morrisonville; 10 grandchildren, Jean Wray
and Jeffrey of Saranac, Ricky Napper and Deborah of Saranac, Randy Napper and Mary of
Saranac, Todd Napper and Lisa of Saranac, Pamela Scholl and Scott of Dannemora, Gary
Keysor and Linda of Saranac, Scott Keysor and Cherice of Cadyville, Robin Keysor and Lynne
of Plattsburgh; Heather Rascoe and Ricky of Saranac and Rebecca Everleth of Lockport; 18
great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren also, several nieces and nephews.

Alice M. Rock
Morrisonville Alice M. Rock, 83, of Mason
St., died Monday Dec. 20, 1999 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born on
June 6, 1916 in Morrisonville, the daughter of Frank and Adeline (Delormrie) Coryer.
Alice was married to Walter Rock in Cadyville on
Aug. 29, 1932, he died in 1967. She worked for 36 year at Diamond International in
Plattsburgh. She attended St. James Church in Cadyville.
Survivors include six children, Walter and Joanne
Rock of Panama City Fla.; Beverly and Nelson Provost of Cadyville; Elizabeth and Al
Dinwiddie of Waco, Texas; Florence and Manual McGonigal of Fort Worth, Texas; Elmer and
Charlene Rock of Peru; Gail and Rodney Patnode of Morrisonville; 21 grandchildren; 43
great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Florence, one son, Elmer and one
sister, Flossie Rock all died earlier.

and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be
held Wednesday at 12 noon at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will be in the Parish

Winfred E. Collins
Plattsburgh Mr. Winfred E.
"Winnie" Collins, 83, of Honey Dr. and formerly of Lyon Mountain, died Sunday
Dec. 19, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Ellenburg on Feb. 21, 1916 the
son of the late Archibald and Dora (Clark) Collins.
He retired from Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain
in 1968 after 40 years of service and from Plattsburgh State University College in 1976.
Winfred had been President of the Miners Union and was a member of Civil Service Employees
Association. An avid outdoorsman, Winfred taught hunter safety instruction. He was a
member and Past President of the Lyon Mountain Rod and Gun Club and was a member of the
Panther Mountain Hunting Club. He was a member of St. Bernards Church, Lyon Mt.
Winfred is survived by his wife, Belva
"Belle" (Sorrell) Collins whom he married Dec. 18, 1937 in Champlain, N.Y.; of
Plattsburgh, a son Nathan Collins of Plattsburgh; five daughters and five sons-in-law,
Rebecca and Kurmit Bailey of Cullman, Ala.; Loretta and Robert Breyette of West Chazy,
Linda and John Held of Pahrump, Nev.; Mary-Ellen and Gary LaMora of Lyon Mt., Ann Marie
and Carlton Rounds of Lyon Mt., a sister, Lillian Atkins of Georgia, 12 grandchildren,
eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by many brothers, sisters and
a granddaughter Debbie Swearingen. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the
Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. Plattsburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Bernards Church, Lyon Mt. Interment will be next
year in St. Bernards Cemetery.
Kathryn P. Kretser
MORRISONVILLE Kathryn P. Kretser, 87, of
The Ninety Rd., Morrisonville, died early Saturday morning, Dec. 18, 1999 at the CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh due to a short illness. Kathryn was born Aug. 19, 1912 in
Rockwood to Harry Pettengill and Etta (Long) Pettengill.
She was educated in Rockwood School and married
Eddison Kretzer at St. Marks Lutheran Church on Sept. 22, 1935.
Mrs. Kretser was employed by Park Row Pharmacy
for 10 years. She resided in the Canajoharie area for 55 years, Watervliet from Sept. 1990
to July 1998 and Plattsburgh since July 1998. She was a member of St. Johns and St.
Marks Lutheran Church, Canajoharie. She also assisted with the choir of the church.
She is survived by two sons, Donovan E. Kretser,
Albany and David H. Kretser, Morrisonville; one daughter, Maureen Mason, Green Island;
five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those who passed on before her were her husband,
Eddison, April 8, 1964; and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 21, 1999 at the Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie,

Mineville Robert F. Brooks, 85, of 401
Federal St. Mineville died Friday Dec. 17, 1999 at the Community Hospital, Elizabethtown.
He was born Aug. 27, 1914 at Moriah, the son of Frank and Emma (Seckington) Brooks.
He was a retired employee of Republic Steel Corp.
Mineville, and a member of Port Henry Council 384 K of C.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Ward) Brooks,
his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Rick Powalski of Two River, Ala.; grandchildren,
Adam, Robert, Ann Marie and Mary Theresa; great-granddaughter, Tara; and nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Judith Brooks
and his son, Robert Brooks.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial
Service will be conducted at a time and place to be announced. Harland Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
Earl Phinney
Burlington, Vt. Earl Phinney, 89, died
Saturday Dec. 18, in Burlington, Vt. He was born in Westport June 20, 1910, the son of
Earl and Florence (Taylor) Phinney.
He was a lifelong resident of Wadhams and a
member of the Wadhams Methodist Church.
He is survived by one daughter and her husband,
Mary Phinney and Stewart Randall, of Milton Vt.; two grandchildren, and their spouses,
Tony and Maria Tur of Pa.; Jennifer and Philip Muir of N.C.; three great-grandchildren,
Anthony and Natalie Tur, Tegan Muir, two sister-in-laws, Joan Pierce and Betty Huba both
of Albany, and several very special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Lettie
Phinney, who died Oct. 19, 1989; they were married Sept. 28, 1932.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday Dec. 21, 1999
from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service
will follow at 3 p.m. at the Wadhams United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at
Riverside Cemetery in Wadhams.
Memorial donations may be made to the Westport
Emergency Squad.
Thomas G. Sorrell
AuSable Forks Thomas G. Sorrell, 65,
of Palmer St., AuSable Forks, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center,
Plattsburgh. He was born Oct. 19, 1934 in AuSable Forks, the son of Wilfred J. Sorrell Sr.
and Ethel Jacques Sorrell.
Tom was a Probation Officer for Essex County for
several years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving with Det AMEDS USAH Fort Carson,
Colo.
Tom graduated from St. Michaels College of
Vermont. He was a member of the American Legion Post 504 of AuSable Forks. He also was a
member of Holy Name Church, Au Sable Forks. and an avid Golfer and Bowler.
Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Marci
and Sam Angelella of Springfield, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Mary
Sorrell of Aurora, Ill.; and Timothy Sorrell of Buffalo; three grandchildren, Anthony
Angelella, Mia Angelella and Haylee Sorrell; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred Jr. and
Annie Sorrell of AuSable Forks and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His wife, Lucille Hathaway Sorrell, died Nov. 16,
1983.
Visitation hours will be Sunday evening 7-9 at
the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. There will be American Legion Prayer
service at 7:30 and a Vigil service at 8:30. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday
morning at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic Church AuSable Forks. Burial will follow at
Holy Name Cemetery where the American Legion Post 504 will conduct full Military Rites.
Memorials in his name may be made to the American
Legion World War II Memorial.
Cecelia Barney, 89, died at her home, 47
River Rd., Lake Placid Saturday morning, Dec. 18, 1999. She was born in Buffalo Dec. 31,
1909 and had lived in Lake Placid since 1951.
Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in
Lake Placid Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Monday morning at
11 a.m. at the Saint Agnes Church. Rev. Michael Gaffney and Rev. Patrick OReilly
will officiate. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery.
Frances E. Bunker, 96, of 4 Payville Rd.,
Saranac Lake, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid. She was
born Aug. 16, 1903 in Moira.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will be in Mountain
view Cemetery, Gabriels.
