Kenneth J. Mabry Sr.
PLATTSBURGH — Kenneth J. Mabry Sr., 77, of Cumberland Head,
died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Moriah on July 11, 1923, the son of William and
Mary (Vincent) Mabry.
Mr. Mabry was in World War II and received a Silver Star. He
also received an Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations Campaign
Medal with three Bronze Stars, a Philippine Liberation Medal, a
Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal.
Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans
and a member of Post 20.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mabry; one son, Kenneth Mabry
and his wife Pearl of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Ethel and her
husband Ronald Duchene of Plattsburgh; Rosemary and her husband
Joseph Lang of Florida, and Loretta and her husband Howard Rock of
Florida; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Pecore and her husband Kevin of
Plattsburgh, Kenneth Mabry III and his wife Dawn of Plattsburgh,
April LaDuke and her husband Norm of Redford, Ron Duchene and his
wife Angel of Plattsburgh, Yvonne Duchene of Plattsburgh, Mike
Reyor and his wife Missy of Florida, Corey Reyor and his wife Lori
of Florida, John Raab and his wife Leslie of Florida, Jeremy Rock
of Florida, and Niccole Rock of Florida, and 17
great-grandchildren.
Calling hours and funeral services are private and at the
convenience of the family.

Myrtle B. Brown
Sugarbush — Myrtle B. Brown, 97, of Sugarbush, died Thursday,
Dec. 21, 2000, at her home.
Born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 18, 1903, she was the daughter of
Arthur and Vennie L. (Tuis) Bushey.
She married James Andrew Brown in Plattsburgh. He predeceased
her June 16, 1956.
She was a resident of Loon Lake for 15 years and later moved
near her granddaughter in Sugarbush where she has been a resident
for the past five years.
Mrs. Brown was an avid animal and bird lover.
She is survived by one son, James Arthur Brown of Loon Lake;
two granddaughters, Lynne Nichols of Onchiota and Vanessa Rascoe
of Loon Lake; three grandsons, Keith "Andy" Brown of
Sugarbush, Kevin Brown of Altona and Danny Brown of Merrillsville;
11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and
several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Keith Francis Brown and
one daughter, Janet Norton.
Calling hours will be at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc.
on Saturday, Dec. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will
follow at the funeral home with Rev. Joseph Wheelock officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh in May.
Friends wishing to remember Myrtle B. Brown may make memorial
contributions to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue
Squad in care of the funeral home.
Florence T. Burroughs
Ticonderoga — Florence T. Burroughs, 92, of The Portage in
Ticonderoga, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Moses Ludington
Nursing Home in Ticonderoga following a long illness.
She was born in Jericho, Vt., on Aug. 5, 1908, the daughter of
Balphsar and Kathirine (Myers) Trieb.
Florence worked a number of summers at the original summit
house on top of Mount Defiance. She was a member of the Moses
Ludington Hospital Auxiliary and she worked a number of years as a
volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary's Hospitality Shop.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Ticonderoga.
She is predeceased by her husband, Horace Burroughs.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and
Elescia Burroughs of Ticonderoga; five grandsons, John, Ray, Tom
and Steve Burroughs of Ticonderoga and Leon Burroughs of
Collierville, Tenn.; three great-grandsons, Corey J., Kyle and
Eric; three great-granddaughters, Kathryn, Amber and Kellie, one
niece, Catherine Wilkes of Stanford, Conn.; one nephew, Warren
Good of Hannacroin; one cousin, Eleanor Merle of Jericho, Vt.; and
several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 7 to 9
p.m. at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A
traditional Catholic wake service will be held at 8 p.m. at the
funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at
10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Ticonderoga, the Rev. William Muench officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the
Ticonderoga Emergency Squad.
Joanne G. Legacy , 69, of Townline
Road in Burke, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at the Alice Hyde
Medical Center in Malone, where she was a patient since Dec. 11,
2000.
Born in Chateaugay on June 20, 1931, she was the daughter of
Jerome and Grace (Barnes) Green.
Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on
Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services
will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Chateaugay United
Methodist Church with Rev. Eleanor Bellows and Rev. David Stanton
officiating.
Burial will take place at Eastside Cemetery in Chateaugay in
the spring.
Stephen O. Harnett, 65, of Recore Road, formerly of
Cumberland Head, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the CVPH Medical
Center.
He was born in Plattsburgh on April 26, 1935, the son of
Stephen and Eva (St. John) Harnett Sr.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, from
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the
funeral home chapel with Msgr. Morris Dwyer officiating.

Lucille M. Haas
Morrisonville — Lucille M. Haas, 94, of Rand Hill Road,
passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center
in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Plattsburgh on March 2, 1906, the daughter of
Roma and Anna (Manor) Barnard.
Lucille attended Broad Street School in Plattsburgh and was an
avid reader.
She had been a resident of Stuart, Fla., for 23 years.
Lucille was a member of St. Alexander's Church in
Morrisonville.
Lucille is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara
Seguin of Mooers and Elizabeth and Russell Seguin of
Morrisonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and David
Marguis of Palmetto, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell
and Phyllis Barnard of Plattsburgh; ten grandchildren; many
great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, step-children
and step-grandchildren.
Lucille was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph Gerry, Theodore
Carle and Karl Haas; three brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours will be on Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, from 5 to 7
p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. at St.
Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be later next
year in St. Peter 's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
Donations may be made in her memory to St. Alexander's Memorial
Fund.
Barbara A. Ruth
Ogdensburg — Barbara A. Ruth, 64, of Morris Street in
Ogdensburg, formerly of Morning Star Court in Ogdensburg, died
Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the home of her family.
Mrs. Ruth was born in Port Henry on April 2, 1936, the daughter
of Albert and Sarah (O'Connor) McDonough.
She was a graduate of Port Henry High School and Hudson Valley
Community College School of Nursing in Troy. She worked in the
Ticonderoga Hospital and Cedar's Nursing Home in Ogdensburg prior
to working at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as an L.P.N. for
21 years. She retired in 1998. After her retirement, Mrs. Ruth
worked as a volunteer driver for St.Lawrence County for supervised
visitations.
Mrs. Ruth loved her family and enjoyed camping and fishing with
her grandsons. She also enjoyed playing golf and cross-country
skiing. She had a great love for the outdoors.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Paradis of
Ogdensburg; two sisters, Margaret Lapier of Mineville and Sarah
Cahill of Ohio; one brother, William McDonough of Port Henry; two
grandsons, Brad and Shawn Paradis of Ogdensburg; and several
nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home in
Ogdensburg on Friday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A
prayer wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday
evening at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec.
23, beginning with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral
home. A funeral Mass will follow at noon at St. Mary's Cathedral
with Rev. Raymond J. Moreau, pastor, of St. Augustine Church in
North Bangor, officiating. Burial will be held at St. Patrick's
Cemetery in Port Henry.

Frederick Earl Messick
Burlington, Vt. — Frederick Earl Messick, 80, of Burlington,
Vt., went to be with the Lord peacefully at home, with his family
by his side, on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000.
He was born in Mooers Forks on Sept. 27, 1920, the son of Henry
and Rosina (Longtin) Meseck.
Fred was a member of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral and of the
Catholic Golden Age. He was the proprietor of Messick's Auto Body
Shop in Burlington, Vt. for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Frances D.E. (West)
Messick of Burlington; his children and their spouses, Linda and
Raymond McMillan of Richmond, Vt., Sidney and Geraldine Messick of
Milton, Vt., Daniel and Rosalie Messick of St. Albans, Vt., and
Myron and Christie Messeck of St. Albans, Vt.; four stepchildren;
one brother and his wife, Rudy and Geraldine Mesec of Plattsburgh;
three sisters, Rose Burdo of Mooers Forks, Vatilda Rettinger of
West Chazy and Lena Tremblay of Plattsburgh; his best friend of
over 50 years, Everett Pecor of Burlington, Vt.; 17 grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 37 years, Aline
(Childs) Messick; his grandson Jason; and many brothers and
sisters.
Friends may call at the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85
North Winooski Avenue in Burlington, on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10
a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, in the chapel of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral
with interment to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Annex.

Arlene E. Corrigan
PERU — Arlene Elizabeth Corrigan, 73, of Holden Avenue in
Peru, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in
Plattsburgh.
She was born in Rome, N.Y., on June 22, 1927, the daughter of
Arthur and Maud (Krumm) Dillon. She married William P. Corrigan
Jr. who predeceased her along with her sister, Marion Robare.
Survivors include Susan Corrigan-Ley and her husband Phillip of
Chesterfield, Mo., Peggy Corrigan and her husband John Fedorjaka
of Apex, N.C., William P. Corrigan III and his wife Kathleen of
Peru, David A. Corrigan of Warren, Vt., and James Michael and his
wife Cindy Corrigan of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Daniel
and Kasey Corrigan of Peru, Kelly and Dillon Corrigan of Raleigh,
Kaitlyn Ley of Chesterfield, and Austin Huber of Utah.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 23, at 11
a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with Rev. Vicente
Jazmines, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the
parish cemetery.

Lucille McDonald Carroll
Lake Placid — Lucille McDonald Carroll, 89, of Lake Placid,
died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Adirondack Medical Center in
Saranac Lake.
She was born in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y. on May
15, 1911, the daughter of Gordon and Lucille (Therriot) McDonald.
Raised in Manhattan and Bay Ridge, she attended Parsons School
of Design in New York City. With a particular interest in clothing
design, she worked and modeled for the Razook family's line of
fashion shops in New York City and Lake Placid.
In 1938, she married the late George K. Carroll, the publicity
director and secretary of the Lake Placid Club. Mr. Carroll was a
noted writer and winter sports promoter.
In addition to being the loving spouse of George Carroll and a
partner to many of his promotional activities, she took a
leadership role in many community activities and events in Lake
Placid. Mrs. Carroll took great pride in the founding of the first
community teen center at the Town Hall. She was also a founder of
the Lake Placid High School Nursing Scholarship program and its
related Candy Stripe introductory nursing program. She was active
with the local Girl Scouts, had a close association with the Lake
Placid Sinfonietta and the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. In
addition, she was always active in the Lake Placid Garden Club,
serving as president for many years, active in beautification and
a winner of many floral design awards.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Carroll of New
York City, a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Claire and James Oliver
of Richmond, Vt., a son, Kevin Carroll of Naples, Fla., and
grandsons, Brandon Carroll of Naples, Devin Oliver of Richmond,
John Carroll of Baltimore, Md., and David Carroll of Portland,
Ore.
Calling hours will be at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid
on Friday, Dec. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be
celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. at the St. Agnes
Catholic Church in Lake Placid. Rev. Michael Gaffney, pastor, will
officiate.
Burial will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery.

Walter F. Rayno
Ticonderoga — Walter F. Rayno, 72, of Montcalm Street in
Ticonderoga, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 20,
2000.
He was born in Ticonderoga on July 3, 1928, the son of Lawrence
and Jennie (Stanczuk) Rayno.
Walt was owner and operator for 12 years of Walt's Tower of
Pizza on Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga. He was also a member of
the Ticonderoga Village Police Department for 23 years.
He was a former member and officer of the Defiance Hook &
Ladder Fire Company in Ticonderoga. After the merger of the three
fire companies he later served as a fire commissioner with the
Ticonderoga Fire Department. He was also a former member and
officer of the Ticonderoga Emergency Squad.
He was a former member of the Ticonderoga National Guard and he
currently was a member of Ticonderoga Elks BPO & Elks Lodge
1494.
Walt had a deep affection for pets, especially homeless ones.
He was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Jean Hughes;
three sons, David and daughter-in-law Patty Rayno of Clifton Park,
John Rayno of Ticonderoga and Richard Rayno of New Jersey; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and John Behrmann of Clifton Park,
Mary and Mark Thompson of Ticonderoga and Margaret and William
Polihronakis of Ticonderoga; two brothers, Joseph Liddell and
Richard Liddell both of Ticonderoga; one sister, Ramona McCaughin
of Ticonderoga; five grandchildren, Lisa Detwilder, Jason Bennett,
Joshua Polihronakis, Ashley Polihronakis and Erik Rayno; and one
great-granddaughter, Gracie Detwilder; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.
at the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A
traditional Catholic wake service will be held at 8 p.m. at the
funeral home. The Ticonderoga Elks Lodge 1494 will hold their
ritualistic Lodge of Sorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ticonderoga,
the Rev. William Muench officiating.
Burial will take place at the Valley View Cemetery in
Ticonderoga in the spring.

Clara M. LaDue
Altona — Clara M. LaDue, 92, formerly of Altona, died
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the residence of her son.
Clara was born in lrona on Aug. 16,1908, to George and
Alphonsine Bushey.
Clara was a long time resident of Irona and, prior to that, a
resident of Dannemora, where her husband Ernest was a correction
officer at Dannemora State Hospital. At the time of her death, she
was residing with son Donald and daughter-in-law Beth in Seattle,
Wash.
She was a volunteer for the R.S.V.P. Senior Citizens and was a
member of the Mooers Drop-in Center and the Good Fellowship Club.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald LaDue of Annapolis, Md.,
Donald LaDue of Seattle, Gary LaDue of Annapolis; a daughter,
Linda Hayne of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother, Edward Bushey of lrona,
a sister; Leona Willette of New Port Richie, Fla.; a son-in-law,
Donald Jordan of Cadyville; and several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest in 1973; a
daughter Marie LaDue Jordan; seven brothers, Clarence, Homer, Leo,
Ernest, Leonard, Amos and Victor; and a sister Delia Guerin.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, Dec. 23, from St. Louis de France Church in Sciota.
Interment will be in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona in the spring.

(grandson) and Jan LaDue, independent missionaries to Romania.
Luella M. Jeror , 75, of Elm Street in
Malone, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical
Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since Dec. 13,
2000. She had been a resident of the Alice Hyde Nursing Home since
this past spring.
Born in Malone on Nov. 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the
late Henry and Priscilla (Martin) Bigness.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Church in
Malone.
Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone in the spring.

Lillian Hyde , 83, of School Street in
Bloomingdale, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Adirondack
Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
She was born on March 4, 1917, in Mt. Kisco.

Ruth M. Brill, 77, of Fort Covington Center Road in Fort
Covington, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Alice Hyde
Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since Dec.
11, 2000.
Born in Fort Covington on Feb. 22, 1923, she was the daughter
of the late Carl and Margaret (Mayville) French.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in
Fort Covington. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec.
21, at 11 a.m. at the Bombay Methodist Church in Bombay with the

Ida M. Heller, 91, of Grove City, Pa., died Monday, Dec.
18, 2000, after a short illness.
She was born in Swissvale, Pa., on Nov. 10, 1909, the daughter
of Walter D. and Susan Rebecca (Moore) McClelland.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 10:30 to
11:30 a.m. at the Grove Manor Chapel in Grove City. The funeral
service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dave McCabe
officiating from the Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock,

William O. Tart , Jr. — A memorial Mass will be
celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at noon at St. Peter's
Church in Plattsburgh, for William O. Tart Jr., who died on Dec.
7, 2000, in Syracuse. Burial took place in Syracuse on Dec. 11,
2000.

Sandra Tefoe
Plattsburgh — Sandra Tefoe, 46, of Romeo Circle, Rand Hill
Road and formerly of Forge Street in AuSable Forks, died at the
CVPH Medical Center Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
Sandra was born on Dec. 16, 1954, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the
daughter of Dwayne & Eva (Moore) Elliott.
She was a chambermaid at the Days Inn in Plattsburgh. She
attended church at the Assembly of God in Plattsburgh. She enjoyed
arts and crafts and taking care of her pets. She was a devoted
mother and grandmother.
Sandra is survived by two sons, Michael Tefoe of Wilmington and
Peter Tefoe Jr. of Syracuse; her parents, Dwayne & Eva Elliott
of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Barbara Buchanan of Winooski, Vt., a
granddaughter, Alexis Marie Tefoe of Wilmington; several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews & cousins.
Her husband, Peter Tefoe, died Dec. 2, 1992.
Calling Hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer -Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. at
the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview
Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Marilyn Ann (Peria) Hardy
Ticonderoga — Marilyn Ann (Peria) Hardy, 49, of The Portage,
passed into the presence of her Lord on Dec. 18, 2000, after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Nov. 10, 1951, in Ticonderoga, she was the daughter of
the late Allen Henry and Katheryn Mae (Garfield) Peria.
Marilyn was a lifetime resident of Ticonderoga. She was a
graduate of Ticonderoga High School. She was a member of the
Cornerstone Alliance Church and enjoyed serving the Lord through
many ministries. She was a "Sparks" leader, a Vacation
Bible School leader and a Sunday school teacher. While she was

Marilyn was retired from the Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union
where she enjoyed so much the relationships she made while serving
the people of Ticonderoga and the surrounding community. After
retiring she found her enjoyment in making a home for her family
and home schooling her son.
She also enjoyed ceramics, selling Avon and vacationing in
Maine and Lake Placid.
Favorite verses given to her by her son while she was
undergoing treatment were "Be strong and brave...l am the
Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go." (Joshua
1:9) and "Do not be afraid. I will set you free. I will send
for you by name. You belong to me." (Isaiah 43-1b).
A loving wife, mother and sister, she is survived by her
husband, Thomas D. Hardy and her 10 year old son, Aaron Thomas
Hardy; two sisters, Judith R. Gough and her husband Robert of
Ticonderoga and Nancy P. Gibbard and her husband Thomas of
Rutland, Vt.; and two brothers, Rev. Timothy J. Peria and his wife
Joy of Richwood, Ohio and Daniel H. Peria of St. Paul, Minn. She
is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home in
Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, Dec.
21, at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Ticonderoga.
Her brother, the Rev. Timothy J. Peria and the Rev. Michael J.
Putzke, pastor, of the Cornerstone Alliance Church will officiate.
Interment will take place in the spring at the family plot of

Plattsburgh — Mary E. Hanrahan, 89, formerly of South
Catherine Street, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000 at the Evergreen
Valley Nursing Home.
She was born in Plattsburgh on June 30, 1911, the daughter of
Patrick and Mary Ann (McCabe) Lynch.
Mary was a graduate of St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh. She
worked in New York City.
Mary married William Hanrahan in 1943.
She was a member of the St. John's Altar Rosary Society, an
avid bridge player and a member of the Tuesday Bridge Club, the
Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Mary Immaculate Chapter 479,
the Plattsburgh Garden Club, the Junior League of Champlain Valley
Hospital and St. John's Church.
Mary enjoyed traveling.
Mary is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lou and
Daniel McFarland of Lake of the Woods, Va. and Karen and John
Brusca of Madesto, Calif.; five grandchildren, Michael McFarland,
Scott and Stephanie McFarland, Shannon Brusca, Kevin Brusca and
Andrea Brusca; two brothers, Clarence "Pat" Lynch of
Plattsburgh and John Lynch of Schenectady; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hanrahan in
1954; a brother, Emmett Lynch; and a sister, Margaret Torre.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Dec. 20, from 7 to 9 and on
Thursday, Dec. 21, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home
in Plattsburgh. Members of the Rosary Altar Society and the
Catholic Daughters of America are asked to meet on Wednesday, Dec.
20, at 7 p.m. for services. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Church
in Plattsburgh. Burial will be on Friday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at
Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Schenectady.

Frances R. Smart
SARANAC — Frances R. Smart, 76, of Silver Lake Road, died
peacefully, Monday Dec. 18, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Saranac on Nov. 2, 1924, the daughter of George
and Rose (Etty) Goddeau.
Frances married Raymond Smart at St. Joseph's Church in
Dannemora in 1946.
Mrs. Smart was a member of the Assumption of Mary Church in
Redford and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 1619 in West
Plattsburgh.
She worked at the CVPH Medical Center for over 25 years in the
linen department before retiring in 1987.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Smart; two sons, Wesley
Smart and his wife Patricia of Saranac and Kevin Smart and his
wife Cindy of Saranac; one daughter, Rebecca Paradise of
Middlefield, Conn.; two sisters, Ethel Anson of Saranac and Evelyn
Beauchemin of Dannemora; seven grandchildren, Brad, Josh, Justina,
Ashley, Amber and Alina Smart and Kirk Lisica.
Mrs. Smart was predeceased by one son, Stanley Smart in 1996;
four brothers, George, Philip, Henry and Clarence Goddeau; and two
sisters, Theresa Goddeau and Pearl Favaro.
A memorial service at the Assumption of Mary Church in Redford
will be announced at a later date.

CHAZY — Doris M. Spellman, 67, of 475 Old Miner Road, died
Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Debra Ann
Spellman-Peller, in Clifton Park, N.Y.
Mrs. Spellman was born in Chazy on Sept. 10, 1933, the daughter
of Harry and Rose (LeBruen) Wilfore.
She married Glen H. Spellman on May 10, 1958, at St. Peter's
Church in Plattsburgh.
Mrs. Spellman was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy, the
Ladies of the Elks, Keeseville Lodge and was a life member of the
Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1418 in Champlain. She and her husband
were also members of the Moose Lodge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was a 1951 graduate of Chazy Central Rural High School,
then a 1954 graduate of the Champlain Valley School of Nursing,
where she received her degree as a registered nurse. Mrs. Spellman
retired as a nursing supervisor from Clinton County Nursing Home
in 1992 after working there for 15 years. Earlier she had been a
charge nurse at Physicians Hospital for 12 years and had practiced
nursing in Okinawa, Japan, at the military hospital there from
1967 to 1969.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Retired U.S. Air Force
Master Sgt. Glen H. Spellman Sr.; one son, Glen H. Spellman Jr.
and his wife Julie of Winchedon, Mass.; two daughters, Doris M.
Cavanagh and her husband John and Debra Ann Spellman-Peller and
her husband Joel, all of Clifton Park; one brother, Robert Wilfore
of Beekmantown; one sister, Rose Marie Baughn of Peru; four
grandchildren, Jessica, Rebecca and Glen H. Spellman III and
Kathryn Cavanagh; and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred H. Trost
WILLSBORO — Alfred H. Trost, 82, died at CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., on May 1, 1918,
the son of Henry and Lillian (Barbell) Trost. Mr. Trost grew up in
the Plattsburgh area and married Louise (Lasouska), who
predeceased him in 1998.
He served in the Army Airforce during World War
II. He was an aircraft-engine mechanic and he received a good
conduct medal.
After his service time, he attended college in
Plattsburgh and received a master’s degree from Cornell
University.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in
Essex and a retired faculty member of the Willsboro Central
School, as well as BOCES and the Adult Education programs, having
taught the GED curriculum for many years.
He enjoyed brook trout fishing, bird hunting,
and playing golf. For years he ran Al’s Tackle Shop, selling
fishing tackle and ammunition.
He is survived by one son, David Trost of
Vermontville, N.Y.; a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Eugene
Sharrow of Peru; a sister-in-law, Doris Trost of Plattsburgh; and
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife; his daughter
Patricia Ann Trost Pratt; and his brother, Henry Trost Jr.
Calling hours will be held at the Huestis
Funeral Home in Willsboro on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Essex on
Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Katherine Lillian Lee
Wright, 76, of 1163 Webber Way, Spartanburg, died Saturday, Dec.
16, 2000, in the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late
George L. and Catherine Mullohey Lee. She was a graduate of
Dannemora High School and received her degree in nursing from
Champlain Valley School of Nursing in Plattsburgh in 1945. Mrs.
Wright was a retired registered nurse who worked at the Champlain
Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center in Plattsburgh for 35
years and was Catholic. Mrs. Wright had resided in Spartanburg
since 1989.
Surviving her are her husband of 51 years,
Theodore "Ted" Wright of 1163 Webber Way, Spartanburg;
her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Wright Humar and Dr. Thomas B.
Humar of Spartanburg. Her son, David Brien Wright of Dover, N.H.,
and two grandchildren, Adam Thomas Humar and Alison Lee Humar of
Spartanburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec.
19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas B.
Humar at 398 Montgomery Drive.

H. Donald Chapman
CHAMPLAIN
— H. Donald Chapman, 87, of Church Street, died Dec. 15, 2000,
at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was
born in West Chazy on June 19, 1913, the son of Elmer and Lena
(Bennett) Chapman.
Mr.
Chapman attended St. Mary's Church in Champlain, VFW Post 1418 in
Champlain and the American Legion Post 769 in Chazy. He was a
former member of the Chazy Lions Club, the Keeseville Elks Club
and the Peru Rod and Gun Club.
Mr.
Chapman attended Chazy Central Rural School and worked as a
fireman on the Ticonderoga, when it sailed on Lake Champlain in
the late 1920's and early 1930's. He also worked for the Civilian
Conservation Corps in the 1930's before World War II. Mr. Chapman
was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific
Theater in the 33rd Seabee's Battalion.
He
married the former Rita DuBois at St. Mary's Church in Champlain
in 1947. Following the war, he worked as a carpenter and painter
for Homer West Construction Company for ten years and then as a
painter at the Miner Farm for 18 years, until retiring in 1978.
Survivors
include his wife, the former Rita DuBois; three sons, Kelly
Chapman and his wife Kim of West Chazy, Jeffrey Chapman and his
wife Stacie of Schuyler Falls and Gregory Chapman and his wife
Deborah of Champlain; one daughter, Merrilee Hamlin and her
husband Martin of Chazy; eight grandchildren, Jason and Shane
Hamlin, Heidi Wilkins, Cara, Dana, Joshua, Connor and Logan
Chapman; and one great-grandchild, Kiley Wilkins.
Two
brothers, Nolan and Gerald Chapman and two sisters, Jaunita
Beaucaire and Alice Brown, all died earlier.
At
Donald's request, there will be no public calling hours. Rev.
Donald A. Robinson, pastor of St. Mary's Church, will officiate at
funeral services to be held Monday, Dec. 18th, at 1 p.m. at the
R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel.

HENRY — Alta Helen Hughes, 93, of Broad Street in Port Henry,
died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at her home.
She was
born on Oct. 18, 1907, at Moriah, the daughter of Hubert and
Lillian (Joiner) Hendrix.
She was a
licensed registered nurse, having graduated from Champlain Valley
School of Nursing in Plattsburgh. She did private duty nursing,
nursed at Moses-Ludington Hospital and retired from Cohoes
Hospital in Cohoes.
She was
predeceased by her first husband, Robert Green and her second
husband, Michael Hughes; her sister, Aileen Maple and two
brothers, Alton Hendrix and Alfred Hendrix.
She is
survived by several nieces and nephews.
There
will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at St. Patrick's
Church in Port Henry, with the Rev. Michael Toth officiating.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at a later date.
