EAST QUOGUE Lucibel Downs Ward died at her
home in East Quogue, Long Island, on Dec. 5, 1999. She was born on Feb. 4, 1899, in
Oakville, the daughter of Irving and Anna Downs.
In her early years she travelled by train to high
school in Patchogue and graduated from Cornell University in 1919.
She was predeceased in 1980 by her husband, E.
Darold Ward.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda M. Ward, of
East Quogue, and a son, Robert I. Ward, of Champlain; a grandson John N. Ward of Saranac;
and two great-grandchildren, Carlton of Fairfield, Vt.; and Gennie Ann of Plattsburgh.
For many years she was an active volunteer for
the Red Cross.. She was also active in the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches where she
lived. She was a member of the Sunrise Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Riverhead
D.A.R. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed music and knitting, boating and bird
watching, and was deeply interested in the history of eastern Long Island.
A Celebration of Life service was conducted on
Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, by Pastor Barbara Melzer of the East Quogue Methodist Church,
followed by burial in the family plot in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Tuthill Funeral Home of
Riverhead was in charge of arrangements.
John J. Glebus Sr.
CROWN POINT John J. Glebus Sr., 85 of the
Lakeshore Rd., Crown Point, died Friday Dec. 17, 1999 at the Porter Medical Center,
Middlebury, Vt. John was born May 10, 1914 at Witherbee, the son of Mathew and Katherine
(Dembrosky) Glebus.
He was a retired employee of Republic Steel
Corp., Mineville.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Glebus of
Port Henry and Joan Heilman of Clifton Park; his sons, John Glebus of Crown Point and
William Glebus of Crown Point; his sister, Anna Podres of Witherbee; his brother, Anthony
Glebus, of Witherbee; and eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Murphy)
Glebus and his brother, Joseph Glebus.
Calling hours will be held Sunday Dec. 19, 1999,
7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Monday Dec. 20, 1999 10 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Church, Crown Point. Burial
will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery, Moriah.
Donald C. Dickerson
Westport Donald C. Dickerson, 84, of
Westport; died at Elizabethtown Community Hospital Friday Dec. 17, 1999. He was born in
Reber, Feb. 2, 1915 the son of Clarence and Maude (Stranahan) Dickerson.
He was employed as a sawyer for many years and
worked in most of the sawmills in the area. He was an avid harness racing fan and was
considered an expert in the field. He was the official timer for harness racing at the
Westport Fair for many years with his last races at the fair in August of 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Rena (Decker)
Dickerson, daughters and their husbands, Karen and Kenneth Kneeland of Franklin, N.C. and
Bonnie and Donald Elliott of Clearwater, Fla.; a stepson and his wife and son, James and
Jennifer Moricette and James III; sisters Audrey Dickerson of Willsboro, and Doris and her
husband Edward Collins of Willsboro, Brothers and their wives Claude and Joyce Dickerson
of Reber; "Mike" and Beverly Dickerson of Willsboro and "Bub" and
Edrie Dickerson of Reber; seven grandchildren and nine great - grandchildren.
Besides his parents, two brothers, Maitland and
Loren, and one sister, Vivian Morse predeceased him.
Calling hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral
Home in Willsboro, Saturday Dec. 18, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at
the Funeral Home, Sunday Dec. 19, 1999 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Reber Cemetery.

made to the Westport Emergency Squad or the Willsboro-Reber Fire Department.
John W. DeCourcy II
PLATTSBURGH John W. DeCourcy II, 79, of
5061 South Catherine St. died Friday morning, Dec. 17, 1999, at the Fletcher Allen Health
Care Center in Burlington. Mr. DeCourcy was born in the Bronx on March 10, 1920 the son of
John W. and Mary (MacClellan) DeCourcy.
He married the former Lucille Betts in
Plattsburgh on Aug. 7, 1995. Mr. DeCourcy was a member of the First Baptist Church where
he was Head Usher and a former Deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post 20, VFW
Post 125, Clinton County Senior Citizens and the Plattsburgh Writers Guild. Mr. DeCourcy
was a volunteer and played piano for the "Y Wee Care" day care program and also
played piano for and sang with the "Top Shelf Chorus".
He was a World War II Army paratrooper serving in
both the North African and European Theatres. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne from
1940 to 1945 and was wounded at Anzio Beach in Italy, receiving the Purple Heart. He had a
forty-five year career as a salesman retiring from Hilton's Piano and Organ Co. in
Saratoga Springs in 1980.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; three sons,
John Betts and his wife Barbara of Ocala, Fla.; William Betts and his wife, Katie, of
Plattsburgh and Mathew DeCourcy and his wife, Melanie, of Orlando, Fla.; seven daughters,
Bette Betts of Santa Fe, N.M.; Mrs. Michael (Lucy) Petrie of Franklin, Vt.; Dianne
DeCourcy of Keeseville; Kathryn Betts of Plattsburgh; Patricia Stone of Queensbury; Keitha
Lessard of Keeseville and Mrs. Jeffrey (Yvonne) Fulciniti of Bedford, N.H.; 20
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, John W. DeCourcy III and a brother,
Richard DeCourcy died earlier.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. at theR.W. Walker Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m.
at the First Baptist Churcl followed by burial in the Port Douglas Cemetery.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the
First Baptist Church Memorial Fund in his memory.
Kori Lynn Roy
Keeseville Kori Lynn Roy, infant baby
daughter of Nicole L. Roy of Keeseville, and Danny Garrow, Jr. of Rochester, was called
home Dec. 9, 1999 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.
Survivors include her parents; her twin sister,
Danielle Jean Roy; maternal grandparents, Sheryl (Blaise) Roy of Keeseville, and Gregory
Roy, Sr. of Keeseville; paternal grandparents, Cindy and Don Sacnolln of Rochester, and
Dar, Garrow, Sr. of Rochester; maternal great - grandparents, Roy and Hellan Blaise of
Keeseville; four special uncles, Eric and Chad Roy of Keeseville, Greg Roy of Peru, and
Jay Roy of Black Brook, two special aunts, Amanda Jean Roy, currently serving in Bosnia,
and Tammy Hathaway of Keeseville.
Her great-grandparents, Leo and Anna Roy,
predeceased her.
Services will be private and at the convenience
of the family. Burial will be in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

Gladys S. Pray
Keeseville Gladys S. Pray, 96, formerly of
Keeseville, died Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in
Plattsburgh,
She was born in Peru, Oct. 1, 1903, the daughter
of Henry and Edna B. (Seeley) Fuller.
She was a member of the Keeseville Senior
Citizens Club, and enjoyed crocheting, soap operas, and playing cards with her
grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters and one
son-in-law, Rita Johnpeer of Keeseville, and Doris and John Nolan of Keeseville, one
stepdaughter, Theresa Dorr of Keeseville; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bert Pray of Jay; 15
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and
nephews.
One son, Bert Pray; and one stepson, Howard Pray,
predeceased her.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial
service will be held Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in
Keeseville, with Rev. Dr. Campbell C. Laker, pastor of the Keeseville and Harkness United
Methodist Churches. Burial will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

Frank Pecketz Jr.
, 73, of Seymour Road, Chateaugay died Dec. 15, 1999, at Alice Hyde Medical Center,
Malone. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., Sept. 13, 1926.

today at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Simmler of Assembly of God, Malone,

Edward M. Richardson
WILLSBORO Edward M. Richardson, age 61, of
101 East Bay Rd., Willsboro, died at CVPH Medical Center Wednesday Dec. 15, 1999. He was
born in Springfield, Mass. July 24, 1938, the son of Robert and Avis (Moore) Richardson.
At the age of five, he and his family moved from
Massachusetts to the Albany area where he grew up. He graduated from Columbia High School,
attended Hudson Valley Community College and completed the Gerontology program at North
Country Community College. He served in the US Coast Guard on station during the Cuban
missile crisis. He also worked for the Greyhound Lines in the Albany Terminal. He was an
accomplished wood carver and member of the National Wood Carver's Association. He was an
avid fisherman and outdoorsman and truly loved the Adirondacks. He attended St. Philip's
Church in Willsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Madeleine Laramie
Richardson, a daughter and her husband, Cindy and James Evans, three grandchildren,
Kaitlin, Kimberly, and Lauren of Plattsburgh; his brother, Raymond Richardson Wynantskil;
a sister-in-law, Anne L. Smith, three nieces and 1 nephew, and several aunts and uncles
and cousins.
His parents and a son, John Raymond Richardson,
predeceased him.

Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 at St. Philip's Church in Willsboro at 11 a.m. Burial will follow

James Walker
PERU James Walker, 89, of the Calkins Rd.,
Peru, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Peru, Oct. 5, 1910 , the son of
Andrew and Eva (Weaver) Walker.
He married the former Margaret Annis, July 3,
1954 at the Keeseville United Methodist Church.
He worked for several years at Northern Orchards
in Peru.
He enjoyed playing bingo, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Annis of
Peru; one daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Leo King of Keeseville; one son, Carlton
Walker of Peru; one brother, William Walker of Peru; three grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial
service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home
in Peru with Tracey and Dennis Cregan officiating.
Anna H. Martell
TICONDEROGA Anna H. Martell, 84, of Lake
George Ave. passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999 at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of
Ticonderoga.
She was born in Ticonderoga on April 30, 1915 and
was a lifelong resident of her family homestead on Lake George Ave. She was the daughter
of the late Hugh G. and Lillian M. (Nadeau) Mulvey.
Mrs. Martell was a communicant of St. Marys
Catholic Church of Ticonderoga.
She was employed by Kassels Clothing Store,
Atkins & Scott, Ticonderoga Paint and Decorating Center, and as a Bookkeeper for
Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home and Furniture Store, all of Ticonderoga, for many years.
Her husband, Richard A. Martell died before her
in 1975.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Rick)
Martell and his wife, Karen, of Ballston Spa; three daughters, Karen A. Johnston, and her
husband Jerry, of Liverpool, Jean M. Henry and her husband, Tom, of Charlotte, Vt.; and
Jane E. Kuhl and her husband, Kevin, of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by eight
grandchildren, Christopher Martell, Scott Martell, Brian Martell, Amy Henry, Lisa Henry,
Jeremy Kuhl, Matthew Kuhl, and Andrew Kuhl; and one nephew, Tom Martell.
There will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10
a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench,
Pastor, will officiate.
The Rite of Committal will take place at the
family plot of St. Marys Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga in the Spring.

Noel James Favro, Sr.
ROUSES POINT Noel James Favro, Sr., 56,
died Thursday Dec. 16, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Born In Rouses Point on March 9, 1943, he was the
son of Joseph C. Favro and Henrietta Gilbert.
Mr. Favro began as a customs broker in 1962 at
F.W. Meyers and left in 1980. In 1981, he was a founder and partner of Transborder Customs
Services, Inc. until his retirement in 1998. He wan a member of the Montreal Traffic Club
and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point.
He is predeceased by his mother and father and a
step-father, Benedict LaWare.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl (Livingston)
Favro of Rouses Point; two sons, Noel J. Favro II of Westchester; and Jeffrey C. Favro of
Penfield, NY; one granddaughter, Ciera E. Favro of Rouses Point; three brothers and
sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Favro of Rouses Point, Mr. and Mrs. David Favro of
Alpine, Calif.; and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Favro of Rouses Point; five sisters and four

Port Henry Willard L. Baker, 84, of 11
Parsonage St., Port Henry, died Tuesday Dec. 14, 1999 at the CommunitY Hospital,
Elizabethtown. Willard was born on March 14, 1915 at Addison,Vt.; the son of William and
Bessie (Fuller) Baker.
He was a retired employee of Republic Steel
Corp., Mineville.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sonta
(Veneto) Baker, his sons, Dominick Baker, Willard Baker and Joseph Baker, all of Port
Henry; his sisters, Dorothy Meachen of Crown Point; Wilma Veneto of Port Henry; Bessie
Brooks of Himrod; and Peggy Kelly of Moriah; his brothers, Kenneth Baker of Lee Center and
Thomas Baker of Moriah; ten grandchildren, and three great - grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Myrtle
Treadway, Joyce Walker and Gladys Baker; his brothers, Russell Baker, Ross Baker and Roger
Baker.

Bernard M. Parent
Plattsburgh - Bernard M. Parent, 72, of the
Spaulding Rd., Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at his home, in the loving care of
his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Springfield, Mass.; June 24,
1927, the son of Albert and Gertrued (Laundry) Parent.
He married the former Linda Supernaw, July 27,
1957 at St. Augustine's Church in Peru.
Bernard retired from Georgia Pacific Jan. 6,
1990, following 28 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Parent of
Plattsburgh; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela Ashline of Plattsburgh, and Cheryl
and Brian Cech of Plattsburgh; three sons and two daughters-in-law Terry and Brenda Parent
of Watertown, John and Debrah Parent of Burlington, Vt., and Christopher Parent of
Plattsburgh; two brothers, Erwin, and Micky; three sisters, Pearl, Theresa, and Judy; his
mother-in-law, Pearl Gough of Keeseville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
He was predeceased by one grandson, Aaron Lee
Ashline, Oct. 21, 1988.

and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A service of poems, prayers,
and memories, will be held Friday, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will
follow at the Whispering Maples Memorial Garden on the Tom Miller Road in Plattsburgh.

Geraldine Urich
WEST SIMSBURY, CONN. Geraldine (Ryan)
Urich, 69, of West Simsbury, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at her home. Born in
Los Angeles, Calif.; the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Harris) Ryan, she lived in
Plattsburgh before moving to West Simsbury in 1974.
Geri graduated from Plattsburgh State Teachers
College in 1953 and received her Master's Degree in Education Administration from the
University of Hartford in 1974. She was a teacher in the Bristol School System for 25
years, retiring in 1996.
She is survived by three children and their
spouses; Rebecca and Anthony Garrido of Mebane, N.C.; Allen M. and Kelly Hall Urich of
Farmington, Conn.; Nancy and Paul Busino of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister and brother-in-law;
Shauneen and John Casey of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren; Andrew and Rachel Busino, and
several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the
Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian burial
at 10 a, m. in St. Peter Claver Church, West Hartford, Burial will follow in Fairview
Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are today, Dec. 16, 1999 from 4-8 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Laurina T. Ward
Peru - Laurina T. Ward, 76, of the Mannix Rd.,
Peru, died Dec. 14, 1999 at her home.
She was born in Plattsburgh, Jan. 1, 1923, the
daughter of the late Albert and Emma (Gebo) Baughn.
A resident of Peru for over 40 years, Laurina
devoted her entire life to her husband, family, and friends.
She was a lifetime member of the Peru VFW Post
309 Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an avid reader and loved to travel.
Survivors include four daughters and two sons -
in - law, Jean Valdene Ward of Newburgh, Judith and Melvin Barthold of Converse, Texas,
Nancy Lee Ward of Reston, Va.; and Tracey and David Degroodt of Peru; one son and
daughter-in-law, Gene and Kathy Ward of Castle Rock, Colo.; the proud grandmother of 15,
and 18 great - grandchildren; seven brothers, Wesley, Roland, Robert, Albert, Ernest
(Dick), Thomas (Leo) and Alan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gene G. Ward,
in 1985.

and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru, with Rev.

Roland L. Venne
Chazy Lake Roland L. Venne, 75, died
Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Chazy Lake on July 10, 1924, the
son of Henry J. and Cora (DuBray) Venne.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in
Dannemora and was an avid hunter, fisherman., card player and dice roller.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty
Pike, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Henry and Jane Venne of Chazy Lake; Eddie Spinner of
Plattsburgh; a daughter, Alice Mattoon of Saranac, a brother and sister-in-law, Adrian and
Ronnie Venne of Dannemora; a sister, Thelma Blasier, of Colonial Beach, Va., a
sister-in-law, Alvia Venne of Albany; eight grandchildren, Henry Venne, Arthur Venne,
PenElaine LaPoint, Willie Venue, Kyle Mattoon, John Mattoon, Aaron Mattoon, Jessica
Mattoon, five great - grandchildren, Rachael, Adam, Cheri, Tylor, and Kavian.
A brother, Vernon Venne and a brother-in-law,
Paul Blasier, died earlier.

and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E. F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora
followed by a gathering at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the parish
cemetery in the spring.

attended Hudson Valley Community College and completed the Gerontology program at North
Country Community College. He served in the US Coast Guard on station during the Cuban
missile crisis. He also worked for the Greyhound Lines in the Albany Terminal. He was an
accomplished wood carver and member of the National Wood Carver's Association. He was an
avid fisherman and outdoorsman and truly loved the Adirondacks. He attended St. Philip's
Church in Willsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Madeleine Laramie
Richardson, a daughter and her husband, Cindy and James Evans, three grandchildren,
Kaitlin, Kimberly, and Lauren of Plattsburgh; his brother, Raymond Richardson Wynantskil;
a sister-in-law, Anne L. Smith, three nieces and 1 nephew, and several aunts and uncles.
His parents and a son, John Raymond Richardson,
predeceased him.

Dr. Hilton P. Heming
PLATTSBURGH Dr. Hilton P. Heming, 78, of
Leonard Ave., died Monday Dec. 13, 1999 at the Blake Hospital in Bradenton, Fla. He was
born in Auburn on Dec. 21, 1920 the son of Hilton and Theo (Bachman) Heming.
Dr. Heming married June Baldwin on Aug. 13, 1947
at St. John's Episcopal Church in St. Louis. He earned his Doctorate at Teachers College,
Columbia University in 1953. Dr. Heming was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. He
was a member of the Elks Lodge 621, member and past president of the Lions Club
International of Plattsburgh, Melvin Jones Fellow and Lion of the year. Dr. Heming was
also a member of the United University Professors. He was a college professor and
administrator at Plattsburgh State University where he had been Dean of Professional
Studies. Dr. Heming retired and became professor Emeritus of the State University of New
York in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, June Hemings of
Plattsburgh; one son, Gregory Heming and his wife, Yadiera, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; one
daughter, Mrs. Michael (Judith) Polowy of Buffalo; two sisters, Mary Vivian Michaels of
Tucson, Ariz.; and Dorothy Varney of Rio Ranch, N.M. and six grandchildren.
Private calling hours and funeral services will
be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later
date.

Judy E. Devlin
Jay Judy E. Devlin, 78, of the Glen Rd.,
Jay, died Monday evening Dec. 13, at the CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. She was born
Jan. 10, 1921 in Keene Valley, the daughter of Charles and Bertha "Smith" King.
Judy was the Bar Manager from the opening of
Steinhoffs Sportsman Inn which was owned and operated by her step-father and mother, Carl
and Bertha Steinhoff, until she retired in the 1970's. She also was one of the founders of
the first Alumni Association for AuSable Forks High School, a member of N. Y. S. Liquor
Dealers Association, Member of Holy Name Church of AuSable Forks. She also enjoyed family
gatherings which was one of her most loved occasions.
Judy is survived by her husband, Jack F. Devlin
of Jay, a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Gary Nelson of Jay, two sons, Mark and
Thomas Devlin of Jay, a daughter-in-law, Adrienne Devlin of Jay; eight grandchildren;
Julie Tromblee and David Nelson, Michelle Smith. John C. Devlin, Trevor Devlin, Tracy
Fournier, Mark F. Devlin and Nicole Smith, also four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Kathleen Torrance, a son, Francis
Devlin and her step-sister, Carol Steinhoff Kueller, died before her.
Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 7-9, Wednesday,
at the Zaumetzer - Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks with a Vigil Service at 8:30 p.m.

Wethersfield Barbara "Robin"
(LaReau) Beyer, of Wethersfield, wife of Kenneth E. Beyer, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999 at
her home. She was born in Plattsburgh; daughter of the late Dennis and Amanda LaReau and
had lived in Wethersfield for over 40 years.
Mrs. Beyer was office manager for Viking Electric
Co. for ten years. She had previously worked for The American School for the Deaf, The
Wethersfield Board of Education and Alcoa Aluminum Co. She was a member of First Church of
Christ, Old Wethersfield. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Jennifer
E. Beyer of Costa Mesa, Calif. and Erica K. Bullard and her husband Prescott of Chevy
Chase, MD., two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Pat LaReau of Plattsburgh; and
Norman and Gloria LaReau of Oklahoma, a sister, Verlie Blanchard of Plattsburgh; and
several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service,
Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, 11 a.m. in First Church of Christ, 250 Main St. Wethersfield,
with The Rev. Van M. Hall officiating. Interment of her ashes will follow in the Village

Dorothy Davis Garman
Tucson, Ariz. Dorothy Davis Garman, 87,
died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999 in her home. She was born in Tacoma, Wash. on Dec. 31, 1911,
the daughter of Charles and Inez Davis.
She graduated from Washington State Teacher's
College in Ellensburg, Wash. She was a teacher, homemaker, and a world traveler. She
enjoyed sewing, playing cards, camping, and traveling to new places. She lived in
Guatemala, Bolivia, and the Philippines.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clyde
N. Garman, her son and daughter-in-law, James and Ruth of Plattsburgh; and her six
grandchildren; Tammy and Fred Williams of Hopkins, Minn.; Chris and Patty Garman of
Napperville. Ill.; Greg and Jenn Garman of Monson, Mass.; Laura and Ernie Follmer of
Plattsburgh; William Garman of Boulder, Colo.; and Michael and Connie Garman of Cadyville.
There are nine great-grandchildren; Shannon Baumann (and husband Tim) of California; Kyle,
and Kirsten of Minn.; Glenn and Shawn of Ill.; Michaela and Lindsey of Mass.; and Jo-Jo
and Alex of New York; There is one great-great-grandchild, Kaylee Ann (daughter of Shannon
and Tim).
She was predeceased by two sisters, Irene and
AEnean, one brother, Laverne, and a son, Charles C. Garman who died in 1989.

memorial service held in Tucson in January.

Plattsburgh Rita M. Politi, 76, of
Prospect Ave., died Sunday Dec. 12, 1999 at Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility. She was born
on April 28, 1923 in Bronx; the daughter of Nicholas and Rose (Marchiselli) Mariano.
Rita resided most of her life in Westchester
County. She was the wife of Anthony F. Politi Sr., who died in 1983. Rita devoted her life
to her family and her animals. She is survived by her sons, Anthony Politi Jr., Peter
Politi and Joseph Politi; a grandson, Samuel Politi.
A Graveside service was held for Rita, on Dec.
13, 1999 at Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro. Rev. James Delbel, Pastor of St. Philip Neri

Mineville Vera V. Ida, 83, of Mineville
died Mon. Dec. 13, 1999 at Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga following a long
illness.
She was born in Ticonderoga; June 11, 1916, the
daughter of George and Daisy (Thompson) Thomas. She graduated from Ticonderoga High
School, married and became a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed cooking for all and was an
avid reader.
Vera is survived by three sons and their wives,
Patrick and Blanche Ida, Lance and Arlene Ida and Brent and Maryann Ida; two grandsons and
their wives, Patrick and Carolyn, Christopher and Julie; two granddaughters, Becki-Jo and
Jodi and her husband Ethan Snyder; three great-grandchildren, Keith, Samantha and Lillith
Ida; three sisters, Ethel Fiaschetti, Thelma Hughes, and Doris Huchro. She will sadly be
missed by all of her family.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Patrick M.
Ida, Aug. 3, 1978 and her sister, Laura Ledger.

65, of US Route 11, Ellenburg Depot died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999 at her home.
Born in Plattsburgh, on August 7, 1934, she was
the daughter of Fred and Leah (Boslely) Supernaw.
She was married to Clifton Nichols on June 8,1957
in St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg by Rev. Earl Taylor. Mr Nichols predeceased her on
February 2, 1993.
Mrs.Nichols is survived by her mother, Leah M.
Supernaw of Ellenburg Depot; two sons, Eugene C.and Wanda Nichols of West Chazy, Kenneth
W. and Lee Nichols of Ellenburg Depot; two daughters, Barbara A. and Douglas LaClair of
Ellenburg Depot, Mary E. and Joe Dumas of Ellenburg Depot, 13 grandchildren.
Those that preceded in death were her husband ,
her father, and her brother, Donald Supernaw .
She was a graduate of Ellenburg Central and was
employed for many years as a postal clerk in the Ellenburg Depot Post Office. A
communicant of St. Edmund's Church, Ellenburg, active in the church Choir, and member of
Catholic Daughters Court Little Rose #1300.

automobile accident. Ronald was born in Plattsburgh on October 28, 1976, son of Robert J.
and Diane (Mashtare) Boyd, Sr.
Ronald was a 1995 graduate of Beekmantown Central
School. Ronald was a construction worker, being employed by Allen Pellerin and Keith
Vassar. Ronald was an avid fisherman, hunter and a devoted father.
Ronald is survived by his parents, Robert J. and
Diane (Mashtare) Boyd of Point au Roche, his wife, the former Danielle P. Wilson of
Plattsburgh, his maternal grandmother, Mary Mashtare of Plattsburgh, three brothers,

PLATTSBURGH Laine L. LaPlante, 46, of Park
Row in Cadyville, died Sunday, December 12, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in
Plattsburgh. Laine was born in Plattsburgh on March 14, 1953, son of Lawrence J. and Doris
M. (Demers) LaPlante.
Laine was a graduate of Saranac High School and
attended SUNY Plattsburgh for three years. Laine was employed for 18 years in Saranac,
first at DJ's Korner Grocery and later at Allinson's 7 to I I Mini Mart. Lame was
currently employed by SUNY Plattsburgh. Laine enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. Laine
is survived by his father, Lawrence J. LaPlante of Cadyville; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Linda Huyck of Magnolia, Texas, Dawn and Donald Recore of Plattsburgh, his
companion, Shirley Farrell of Plattsburgh; three nieces, Kirsten and Anthony Moran of
Plattsburgh, Jessica Recore of Plattsburgh, Amy McDonald of Magnolia, Texas; two nephews,
Tim Rabideau of Wahi Awa, Hawaii, John Rabideau of Houston, Texas; three great nieces and
one great nephew. Laine was pre-deceased by his mother, Doris LaPlante on September 11,
1995.

C. Eleanor Hall
PORT HENRY Miss C. Eleanor Hall, 98, died Dec. 10, 1999, at the
Horace Nye Nursing Home, Elizabethtown, where she was a patient since 1995. Before that,
she lived at the family homestead at 45 Spring St., Port Henry.
She was born Aug. 21, 1901, in Orwell, Vt., the daughter of Rollin A.
Hall and Madeline C. Corbett.
Miss Hall was a 1919 graduate of Port Henry High School. She then
attended Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., then Simmons College in Boston,
Mass., where she received her degree in library science.
She worked in Lorriane, Ohio, as a librarian at the public library then
became school librarian in Pittsburgh, Pa.
She returned home in 1930 at care for her father after her
mothers death. After her fathers death 18 years later (1948), she became
librarian for Champlain College in Plattsburgh for almost two years. She then went to work
in the State University of New York Library in Albany for 10 years. Miss Hall was a member
of the Port Henry Presbyterian Church (now known as Mount Moriah Presbyterian Church.)
She became honorary trustee emeritus of the Sherman Free Library after
many years of association there.
Other organizations that she had been a member of for a long time were
the Hudson Valley, Essex County and Vermont historical societies and Daughters of the
American Revolution. She was also a past member of the Mountain Club.
Her interest in history led to her collaboration with Dr. Charles W.
Warner in publishing a book in 1931 which holds much local historical information:
"The History of the Port Henry, N.Y." (available at the Town of Moriah
Historical Society.)
In 1934, Miss Hall compiled and had published a pictorial map called
"A Romance Map of the Northern Gateway," which features historical happenings in
northeast New York and Northwest Vermont. (available at the Essex County Historical
Society Museum.)
Miss Hall was the Town of Moriah & Village of Port Henry historian
for 46 years, concluding at the end of 1991. She had immense knowledge that helped many
who sought out genealogical as well as local historical information.
She also wrote some historical articles that were published in some
newspapers.
Morris Glen wrote a book entitled "History of Lake Champlain"
which he dedicated to Miss Hall. It also shows her picture as a young woman.
She enjoyed going to places of historical significance and became very
well known in the historian world and met many people who became lifelong friends.
Her closest friends for many years were the late Miss Anna Wyman of
Port Henry/Plattsburgh and Mrs. Harriette Davis of Port Henry.
Miss C. Eleanor Hall was a very knowledgeable lady who gave much to her
community and to many others over her years as a historian.
Family survivors are cousins: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall of Orwell, Vt.
Miss Hall will be laid to rest in Orwell, Vt., where her parents are
buried. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Mount Moriah
Presbyterian Church, Port Henry at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Evelyn Meredith officiating.
Richard A. Hough
VERMONTVILLE Richard A. Hough, 61, of Tyler Road, Vermontville
died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at Adirondack Medical center, Saranac Lake.
Born in Vermontville Dec. 27, 1937, he was the son of Richard and Carol
(Merrill) Hough.
Mr. Hough was a 1954 graduate of Saranac Lake High School. He worked at
the A&P in Saranac Lake for a short time and enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1955.
He served overseas and completed his tour in 1959 when he returned to
the area. A member of the National Guard for two years in Saranac Lake, he worked at the
A&P in Port Henry until 1974 and retired from the Saranac Lake A&P in 1980.
He worked for the Town of Franklin and later the County of Franklin at
the Lake Clear transfer station.
He was a member and first-assistant chief of the Moriah Fire department
where he was an ambulance dispatcher and driver as well as an emergency medical
technician.
He was active in the Boy Scout and Explorer programs in Port Henry and
was involved in the initial planning of the Recreational Park in Vermontville.
He was concerned about the welfare of area children. He enjoyed CB
radio and especially Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
He acted as a courier at the 1980 Winter Olympics, delivering news
reels and other items on his Harley.
Survivors include his wife, the former Rosemary Annis of Vermontville;
his former wife, the Rev. Terri Hough of Lake Placid; four daughters, Mrs. David

three stepsons, Nathan D. Irwin and his wife, Tammy of Peasleeville, Benjamin F. Irwin of
Schuyler Falls and Andrew R. Irwin of Saranac Lake; his mother, Carol Hough of Saranac
Lake; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Anita) Gowan and
Mrs. William (Ginger) Dora, both of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by a son, Timothy R. Irwin.

A veterans service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral

Rev. Betty Jean Goodwin, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery,
Vermontville.

Bertha A. Otten
CHOCTAW, OKLA. Bertha A. Otten, 78, of 17660 Cedar Brake and
formerly of Cadyville and Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at the Midwest
Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Okla.
She was born in Cadyville Nov. 25, 1921, the daughter of Isaac and Nina
(Emery) Tamer.
Mrs. Otten worked for Diamond International Corp. for 35 years,
retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Peters Church in Plattsburgh, the Altar
Rosary Society and Matthews Guild of St. Peters Church, the Senior Citizens
Council and the AARP.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry McKee of
Choctaw, Okla.; and three granddaughters, Mellisa, Christine and Samantha McKee, all of
Choctaw, Okla.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard G. Otten Sr.; her son,
Leonard G. Otten Jr.; eight sisters; and two brothers.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at. St.
Peters Church.

Annette H. Martin
BRUSHTON Annette H. Martin, 73, of Sayles Road, Brushton, passed
away at her home Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, where she had been in the care of her family and
Hospice of the North Country, Malone.
Born Nov. 19, 1926, in Orleans, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter
of the late Henri and Yvonne (Landriault) Morin.
She attended high school in Orleans, Ontario. Later, she graduated from
Business School in Ottawa, Ontario.
She was employed by the New York State Department of Correction in
Auburn for 13 years as a secretary. She retired in 1984.
She and her husband, John, then moved to the Brushton area after their
retirement. During her working years, she was also a caregiver for the late Mrs. Messiman
of Skaneatelas.
In 1950, she was united in marriage to John H. Martin in Ottawa,
Ontario. He survives.
She was a member of St. Marys Church in Brushton, a member of the
Chapter of the Catholic Daughters in Auburn, past member of the Big Sisters Chapter in
Auburn of the Big Brothers and Sisters Chapter. Mrs. Martin was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, John; one son, Robert A.
Martin of Albany; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marlene) J. Schraare of Auburn; and three
grandchildren, David, Jennifer and Candace of Auburn.
Friends may call at the Flint Funeral Home in Brushton from 7 to 9 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 13, 1999.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St.
Marys Church in Brushton with the Rev. Alfred H. Fish officiating.

Thelma Pinsonnault
PLATTSBURGH Thelma Pinsonnault, 83, of Lakeview Towers, died
Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Thelma was born in Plattsburgh at the family home at 42 William St.
April 11, 1916, the daughter of Napoleon and Anna LaMora.
Thelma was a communicant of St. Peters Church in Plattsburgh.
Thelma had been employed by Woolworths Department Store in Plattsburgh and Pal Blade
in Plattsburgh. Thelma enjoyed crocheting, crafts and cooking.
Thelma is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Napoleon
"Panky" and Marjory Pinsonnault of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Doris
Pinsonnault of Plattsburgh, six nieces and nephews and their spouses, Judy Pinsonnault and
Bob Pablo of Renssaeler, Rob Pinsonnault and Darlene Boule of Beekmantown, Kim and Jim
Sullivan of Morrisonville, Kerry and Charlie Crew of Pittsfield, Mass., Patti and Bob
Danis of Alameda, Calif., and Bernie and Cindy Pinsonnault of Houston, Texas; seven
great-nieces and -nephews, Erik Pinsonnault, Elena Pablo, Nick Pablo, Joshua Sullivan,
Kelsey Sullivan, Brian Crew, Rachel Danis; several cousins; and many dear friends.
Thelma was predeceased by her parents; three sisters, Bertha, Yvonne
and Rita; a brother, Walter; a niece, Carol; and a nephew, Buddy.

Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday

Elfriede H. Mozzicato
KEESEVILLE Elfriede H. Mozzicato, 63, of Clinton Street,
Keeseville, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Irtsgerburg, Germany, May 7, 1936, the daughter of Hugo
and Irmgard (Metzner) Pfaff.
She owned and operated Elfriedes Restaurant in Peru. She was a
member of the Keeseville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed
knitting, crocheting, shuffleboard and poker.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Gabrielle Wilbourn
of Carrizozo, N.M., and Petra and Ronald Shirley of Keeseville; four sons and
daughters-in-law, Michael and Debbie Owen of Wichita Falls, Texas, Peter and Michelle Owen
of Hinesville Ga., Herbert and Holly Owen of Castleton, and Mark and Theresa Owen of
Weirton, W.Va.; a brother, Rudolf Pfaff of Chemnite, Germany; a sister-in-law, Gerta Pfaff
of Chemnite, Germany; and 11 grandchildren. Her parents, and her husband, Paul J.
Mozzicato, predeceased her.
There will be no public calling hours. A gathering for family and
friends will be held Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Knotty Pine in Keeseville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the
FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Blanche L. Stevenson
Westport Blanche L. Stevenson, 85 , died
Friday Dec. 10, 1999 at the Horace Nye home in Elizabethtown. She was born Dec. 27, 1913
in Worchester, Mass.; the daughter of James and Sylvina (Giroux) Stevenson.
She worked as a nurse for many years for Dr.
Harris in Westport; and also in New York City until her retirement. She resided in
Westport most of her life.
She is survived by three nephews and their wives,
Jim and Enzina Stevenson, Dick and Barbara Boyle and Thomas Stevenson; two nieces and
their husbands, Susan and Jack Hooper, Sandra and Scott Arrington, her cousins, Doris
MacDonough, Jean and Russell Paquette; a sister-in-law, Olive Stevenson, her close
friends, Jan Sneed, Ann Sneed, and Jackie Shockett; and many great and great-great-nieces
and nephews, cousins and friends, who will miss her very much.
Two sisters, Mary Boyle and Mary Clark, two
brothers, Jim Stevenson and Ray Clark, and one nephew, Robert Boyle, died before her.
No calling hours will be held. A funeral Mass
will be held 2 p.m., Saturday Dec. 11, 1999 at St. Philip Neri Church in Westport. Burial
will follow in the St. Philip Neri cemetery. Arrangements are with W. M. Marvins Sons
funeral home in Elizabethtown.

David J. McMullen
Plattsburgh David Joseph McMullen, 46, of
Cubb Circle, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Born Aug. 8, 1953 in Newark, N.J., he was the
beloved son of Richard J. and Joan E. Florentine, Sr.
He was a retired Staff Sgt. of the U.S. Air Force
and was employed by NAPA Auto Parts of Keeseville and Plattsburgh and most recently
employed by Wood Aero.
He is survived by his parents, Richard J. and
Joan E. (Mosby) Florentine, Sr., his wife, Lorrie (Liberty) McMullen, one daughter, Joan
McMullen of Clovis, N.M.; a step-daughter, Kayla Pellerin of Plattsburgh and stepdaughter
and husband, Carla and Shawn Dubay of Plattsburgh; stepson, Richard Morman, U.S. Army,
stepson, Josh and Lyndsay Dandrow of Plattsburgh; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and
Ricky Red of Montclair, N.J.; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Clay of
Belleville, N.J.; and Joan M. Florentine of Plattsburgh; brother and sister-in-law,
Richard J. and Jackie Florentine, Jr. of Keeseville; and brother and sister-in-law, Mark
J. and Deborah Florentine of Ballston Spa.
He was predeceased by one sister, Deborah A.
Kulyeshie.

Festus E. Smith
WILLSBORO Festus E. Smith, 95, of Mt. View
Drive, Willsboro, died at Meadowbrook Healthcare Center in Plattsburgh, Friday, Dec. 10,
1999. He was born in Willsboro, March 27, 1904, the son of Oakley Henry and Lottie (Jones)
Smith.
Mr. Smith graduated from RPI in 1925 as a
chemical engineer specializing in pulp and paper. He worked for the New York and
Pennsylvania Paper Co. for 40 years and three years with Georgia Pacific in Toledo, Ore.;
retiring in 1965.
He was a lifetime member of the Willsboro
Methodist Church, a member of Iroquois Lodge 715 F & AM, Essex, NY, member of
Willsboro Kiwanis, member of BPOE in Waldport, Ore.; member of the Shriners, former
president of the Willsboro School Board, a former Director of the Champlain Valley Bank,
former member of the Willsboro Town Board and a former Willsboro Town Justice of the
Peace.
For several years after retirement, Mr. Smith and
his wife, Helen, participated in a program called International Executive Service
Corporation. It is a volunteer service in which retired executives donate their time and
expertise to help developiong industries in foreign countries. The Smiths served in
Brazil, Greece, Venezuela, and the Phillippines.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 71 years,
Helen Patterson Smith of Willsboro, a daughter and her husband, Myrtice S. and C. Daniel
Holmes of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Lucille S. Ammenheuser of Rochester, and a son
and his wife, Howard P. and Suzanne Smith of Salem, Ore.; and seven grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, one brother,
Howard; and a son-in-law, Herbert Ammenheuser.
