Blanche L. Stevenson
Westport Blanche L.
Stevenson, 85 , died Friday Dec. 10, 1999 at the Horace Nye home in Elizabethtown. She was
born Dec. 27, 1913 in Worchester, Mass.; the daughter of James and Sylvina (Giroux)
Stevenson.
She worked as a nurse for many
years for Dr. Harris in Westport; and also in New York City until her retirement. She
resided in Westport most of her life.
She is survived by two nephews
and their wives, Jim and Enzina Stevenson, Dick and Barbara Boyle, two nieces and their
husbands, Susan and Jack Hooper, Sandra and Scott Arrington, her cousins, Doris
MacDonough, Jean and Russell Paquette; a sister-in-law, Olive Stevenson, her close
friends, Jan Sneed, Ann Sneed, and Jackie Shockett; and many great and great-great-nieces
and nephews, cousins and friends, who will miss her very much.
Two sisters, Mary Boyle and Mary
Clark, two brothers, Jim Stevenson and Ray Clark, and one nephew, Robert Boyle, died
before her.
No calling hours will be held. A
funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m., Saturday Dec. 11, 1999 at St. Philip Neri Church in
Westport. Burial will follow in the St. Philip Neri cemetery. Arrangements are with W. M.
Marvins Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown.

Leonard A. Woods Sr.
Crown Point Leonard A.
Woods Sr., 69, of Russell St., Crown Point died Wednesday Dec. 8, 1999 at his home.
He was born June 2, 1930 at Crown
Point; the son of Ashley and Nellie (Peacock) Woods.
He was owner and operator of the
Crown Point Sunoco Station, former Town of Crown Point Superintendent of Highway, a heavy
equipment operator for the Town of Crown Point Highway Dept., former Town Constable, a
member and former chief of the Crown Point Fire Dept., a member of and former baseball
coach for the Crown Point Youth Commission.
He was an army veteran of the
Korean Conflict. As a member of the 24th Infantry Division, 5th Regimental Combat Team
Tank Co. Leonard drove the first tank across the 38th Parallel.
Leonard is survived by his sons;
Leonard Woods Jr. of Ticonderoga, Douglas Woods of Crown Point and Martin Woods of
Thornton, Colo.; his daughter, Wanda Herlihy of Milwaukee, Wis.; his sisters, Lena Snow of
Fayetteville, NC, Rita Hurlbert of Ticonderoga and Ruby Knickerbocker of Ticonderoga; his
brother, James Woods of Chambersburg, Pa.; two half-brothers, Henry and Chester Woods;
four half-sisters, Eva Provoncha, Betty French, Patty Sprague and Myrtle Waye; seven
grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. He was married to Lydia (Hargett) Woods for
45 years.
Calling hours will be held
Monday, 10-11 a.m. at the Crown Point Bible Church, Creek Rd., Crown Point. A funeral
service will follow at the church 11 a.m., Rev. Dan Packer officiating. Burial will be in
the White Church Cemetery.
Irma C. Atwell
Westport Irma C. Atwell,
65, of Pleasant St., died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
She was born in Westport, July
24, 1934, the daughter of Aubrey and Amy (Curren) Gough.
She retired in 1992, following
many years of service at the Champlain National Bank in Westport. Her banking career began
in 1952.
She married Donald H. Atwell,
Oct. 18, 1953 at the Westport Federated Church.
Irma was an active member of the
Westport Federated Church, a choir member, a member of the Easter Star, a Sunday School
Teacher, and held a chair on the Westport Zoning Board.
In her younger years, she was a
lifeguard, and at one point, she swam across Lake Champlain. She also enjoyed camping,
water skiing, swimming, bowling, golf, and following retirement, she and Don traveled
cross-country.
Survivors include her husband,
Donald H. Atwell of Westport; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mary Atwell of
Alamogordo, N.M.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tina Atwell of Westport, and Lori and
Eric Volkman of Pavilion; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Maureen Gough of
Watertown; one aunt, Thelma Goff of Lewis; five grandchildren; two great - grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public calling
hours. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Westport Federated Church
with Rev. Dr. Evelyn P. Meredith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private, in the
Black River Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be
made to the Westport Federated Church or the Westport Rescue Squad.

Festus Smith, 95, of Mountain View Drive, Willsboro, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999,
at Meadowbrook Health Care Center. He was born March 27, 1904, in Willsboro to Oakley
Henry Smith and Lottie (Jones) Smith.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Huestis
Funeral Home, Maple Street, Willsboro. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Lillian A. Merrihew, 103, formerly of Beekman Street,
Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Meadowbrook Health Care Center. She was born
April 27, 1896, in Champlain.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m., at R.W. Walker
Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home chapel. Burial
will take place in Glenwood Cemetery, Champlain.
David N. McMullen, 46, of Plattsburgh, died Friday, Dec. 10,
1999, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Dorothy Amanda "Dot" Taylor
HUDSON FALLS Dorothy Amanda
"Dot" Taylor, 68, of Fourth Ave., went to be with her husband, John, on
Wednesday Dec. 8, 1999, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness. Born on Feb.
1, 1931, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Margaret (Stewart)
Perry.
She married John F. Taylor on Dec. 21, 1959. He
passed away on July 19, 1990. They owned and operated John and Dot's Diner in Hudson Falls
for 30 years and after retirement, they operated John and Dot's Pub.
Her enjoyments included camping, traveling,
playing cards and being with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was
predeceased by her daughter, Dorriena LaMere and her husband, Ovid, her brother, William
"Whitey" Wright and two brothers-in-law, George Taylor and Harold Penley.
Survivors include five daughters, Rita Favreau
and her husband, Larry, of Calif.; Linda Jones of Queensbury; Connie Sellingham and her
husband, Thomas, of Hudson Falls; Diane Martineau and her husband, Joseph, of Peru; and
Ann Powers of Hudson Falls; a sister, Margaret Young and her husband, Richard, of Hudson
Falls; many grandchildren and great - grand children, step - grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Pat Taylor, Rose LaPorte and her husband, Joseph, Ann Penley, Mary Jane
Hintz and her husband, Earl and Helen Coty, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are planned for 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. today at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. at 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Funeral
services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Vernon Collier,
officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.
The family suggests memorial contributions be
sent to the charity of one's choice.
Edgar Hoit French
MALONE Edgar Hoit French, 80, of 75 Park
St. died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999 at the Alice Hyde Medical Center. Born Dec. 16, 1918 in
Malone; he was the son of William and Helen Hoit French. They predeceased him.
He married Nora M. Hughes Oct. 18, 1946 in St.
Joseph's Church with Rev. R. O'Neill officiating. She survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter
and son-in-law: Cathy and John Hollinshead of Chateaugay; a granddaughter: Erin Honora and
a grandson: Andrew French Hollinshead of Latham.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a
daughter, Janice Louise in infancy; and a sister, Caroline French Nickelsen.
He lived most of his life in Malone and graduated
from Franklin Academy in 1934 and later from Adirondack Business School. In his early
years he was employed in California by Twentieth Century Fox as an accountant until 1942.
During World War II he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army serving in
the European Theater with the Ninetieth Division of the Third Army under General George
Patton. He was the recipient of numerous medals during his service including the Silver
Star. He was honorably discharge in 1945.
After World War II he held various jobs in the
construction field prior to being employed by the Village of Malone. He served as the
Village Clerk and Assessor for the Village of Malone for over twenty-five years until he
retired in 1982.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, active in
Republican Party politics, a member of the American Legion Post # 219 and a 54 year member
of the Malone Lodge of Elk's Lodge 1303 and served for several years as secretary of the
Lodge. He elljoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, in St. Joseph's
Church with Msgr. C. John McEvoy officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery,
Lake Titus Road.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of
the North Country.

Mineville Louis M. Velsini, 74, of 302
Liberty Lane, Mineville, died Wed. December 8, 1999 at the Community Hospital,
Elizabethtown.
He was born Jan. 30, 1925 at Witherbee; the son
of Vito and Mary (Gramdina) Velsini.
Louis was a retired employee of Republic Steel
Corp. Mineville, he also worked at the Town of Moriah Campsite.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member
of the VFW Post 5802 Mineville and the Port Henry Council 384 K of C.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne (Aurilio)
Velsini, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steven Mitcbell of Moriah Center, his
granddaughter, Margo Mitchell of Moriah Center; his sisters, Katherine Frazier of
Witherbee and Lena Harpp of Amsterdam.

Clarence E. Carpenter
Plattsburgh Mr. Clarence E. Carpenter, 73,
formerly of Honey Drive died Wednesday December 8, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center. He was
born in Plattsburgh on April 5, 1926, the son of Michael and Mina (LaMountain) Carpenter.
Clarence was a veteran of World War II serving in
the U. S. Marine Corps. After serving in the Marines, Clarence worked at Finley Auto Body,
he then was a deputy sheriff for Clinton County. He owned and operated C. Carpenter's
Ranch House Restaurant and the Paradise Restaurant. He worked for Tyler and Brown Auto
Body, Carpenters Plywood Center, Sherlat Renovations and retired from his business,
Carpenter's Carpet Service Flooring and Installation.
Clarence was Past Commander and a Life Member of
the American Legion Post #20 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #125 Plattsburgh.
Clarence was a member of St. Peter's Church.
His wife Dorothy M. Carpenter died August 22,
1995.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law;
Daniel and Judy Carpenter of Cadyville; Dean Carpenter and his companion, Kim Lucia of
Peru; a daughter, Deanna Carpenter and her companion, John Tedford of Plattsburgh; two
sisters and two brothers-in-law, Irene and Henry Fortin of Plattsburgh; Constance and Paul
Ero of Ellenburg; a brother and sister-in-law; Lawrence and Marjorie Carpenter of
Plattsburgh; 12 grandchildren, four great - grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers
Emery, John and George Carpenter.

PLATTSBURGH Mr. Robert H. "Bob"
Caska, 62, of the Pellerin Road, died Wednesday Dec. 8, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Plattsburgh on March 16, 1937 the son of Joseph M. and Rosamond B.
(Pulcipher) Caska.
Robert retired from Imperial Paper Mill in 1982
where he had been a color mixer. He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Robert is survived by his wife whom he married
Dec. 23, 1966, Barbara (Brown) Caska of Plattsburgh, a daughter, Julie Burnah of
Plattsburgh, two granddaughters, Bethany and Lacey of Plattsburgh, four sisters and four
brothers-in-law, Carolyn and James Calkins of Keeseville, Linda and Kenneth Gill of
Plattsburgh, Sandra and Charles Carlo of Plattsburgh, Beverly and Joseph Rowell of
Plattsburgh, four brothers and a sister-in-law, Lynn Caska or Chateaugay, Richard Caska of
Plattsburgh, Gary and Toni Caska of Long Island, Wayne Caska of Plattsburgh, several

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and

Plattsburgh Mr. Barry W. Lavigne, 57,
of City Hall Place died Wednesday Dec. 8, 1999 after a brave and courageous battle with
lung cancer. He was born April 5, 1942 in Valleyfield, Province of Quebec, Canada, the son
of William and Kathleen (Brooks) Lavigne.
Barry had been self employed as a carpenter for
many years.
He was predeceased by his father, William
Lavigne.
He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Lavigne of
Hemmingford, Quebec, a son and a daughter-in-law Peter and Judy Lavigne of Chazy, a
daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Russell of Dover, Del., two brothers and a
sister-in-law, Eric Lavigne of Montreal, Carl and Helene Lavigne of Montreal, two sisters
and a brother-in-law, Gail and Jim LePage of Plattsburgh, Helen Lavigne of Montreal, six
grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

late Joseph and Sarah (Dashnaw) Carl.

GLADYS M. LANTHIER, 86, of Hosley
Ave. of Tupper Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999 in Burlington, Vt. She was born in
Tupper Lake on May 19, 1913, the daughter of John and Evelyn (Hutt) Hunkins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 10,
1999 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Funeral Mass
will be held at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. with

E. Miller
LEWIS Paul E. Miller, 71, of RR 1 Lewis,
formerly of Towanda, Pa., died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the home of his daughter and
son-in-law, where he had resided since September 1998. Born July 11, 1928, in Chicago, he
was the son of Fred and Mae Thwaites Miller.
He was a graduate of Abington (Pa.) High School
and attended Penn State University. He graduated in 1969 from Drexel University, where he
received a degree in electrical engineering.
On March 14, 1953, he married Dorothy Niccolls in
Upper Darby, Pa. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Miller was
retired from the E.I. DuPont Corp., having worked at both the Wilmington, Del.,
headquarters and the North Towanda, Pa., facilities. He retired in 1991 after 28 years of
service.
He had previously been employed at Lit Brothers
Department Store, Philadelphia; Sperry Rand, Long Island; and General Electric in
Philadelphia.
He was a member of Union Lodge No. 108 F&AM,
Towanda, Pa.; Northern Commandery Number 16 Knights Templar of Towanda; Northern Council
No. 24, Royal and Select Master Masons of Athens, Pa., and the York Rite Sovereign
College. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 42 of Towanda and Towanda
Country Club.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and
Chicago Blackhawks fan. He enjoyed golf and birdwatching and had taken several
correspondence courses through the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Lewis;
and daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Steve Piatt of Lewis; a brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Charles and Joan Niccolls of Mesa, Ariz., and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his father in 1958 and his
mother in May 1994. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10-11 a.m. at
W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home, Court Street, Elizabethtown. Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ted Monica, pastor of the Church of the Good
Shepherd, Elizabethtown, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Elizabethtown.

Everett J. Duval
Altona Everett J. Duval, 76, died Tuesday,
Dec. 7, 1999 at the Fletcher- Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. He was born in
Ellenburg, on May 18, 1923; the son of Francis and Henrietta (LaBarre) Duval.
He was in the Army Air Force from 1943-1946. He
was employed for over 28 years as a plumber and steam fitter for local 497 Plattsburgh;
and a member of the Teamsters Local 648. He was a member of the Senior Citizens Band and
Dottie and the Golden Notes, a former member of the Barber Shoppers, former Altona Town
Councilman for eight years and Republican Party Committeeman.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude (Norcross)
Duval of Altona, four brothers, James Duval of Altona; William Duval of South Carolina;
Paul Duval of Ellenburg Center; and Lester Duval of Remsen; four sisters, Veronica
Papageorge of Hadley, Mass.; Mary Milander of Las Vegas, Nev.; Martha Jones of North
Stonington, Conn.; and Gemma Wills of Englewood, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also
survive.
A son, Daniel Duval died in 1970 and two
brothers, Louis "Sam" and Daniel Duval all died before him.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on
Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. Burial will follow in the
parish Cemetery.

Vreeland E. Morse
PERU Vreeland "Vree" E. Morse,
age 75, of Peru, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999 at CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Essex
on Feb. 6, 1924, the son of Edward and Lila (Reynolds) Morse.
He was previously employed as a salesman for
Hulbert Bros. of Plattsburgh as well as owner and operator of Keeseville Hardware, Inc. He
was a member of the Peru Town Board and served as town justice. In addition he was a
member of the Peru Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters and their
husbands, Marian and John Peters of Peru, and Amy and Randy Laforest of Peru, two sons and
three daughters-in-law, Roy "Rick" and Toy Morse of Keeseville, and Michael
Morse and Jeanene Zielinski of Plattsburgh and Karen Morse of Peru, eight grandchildren,
Benjamin and Katie Janet Peters, Logan Vree and Janet Elizabeth Laforest, Matthew and
Landon Morse, and David and Michelle Morse, two sisters-in-law, Helen Morse and Katherine
Morse, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Janet (Corel) Morse, died Oct. 5, 1978.
He was also predeceased by six brothers and one sister, Alpheus "Red" Morse,
James Morse Sr., Carlton Morse, Donald Morse, Rupert Morse, Frank Morse and Elizabeth
Ralston.

He was born in Peru, Jan. 26, 1923 the son of
Henry and Lily Margaret (GumIaw) Robare.
Henry was employed for several years with
Forrence Orchards in Peru.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and sports
enthusiast.
Survivors include three sons and
daughters-in-law, David and Lucille Russell of Newport, Ky.; John and Virginia Russell of
Plattsburgh; and Robert and Carol Russell of Keeseville; two daughters and one son-in-law,
Laura and Charles Daniels of Plattsburgh, and Cindy; one step-son and daughter-in-law,
David and Penny Robare of Keeseville; one sister and brother-in-law, Mildred "Millie'
and James Keyes of Peru; and several grandchildren, great - grandchildren, and nieces and
nephew.
His first wife, Katherine Russell; his second
wife, Floretta Russell; and one sister, Margaret Annis, predeceased him.

Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's

Plattsburgh Rosemarie Fedele, 78, of
Meadowbrook Nursing Home, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999 at the CVPH Medical Center in
Plattsburgh. Rosemarie was born in New York City on May 5, 1921, daughter of Joseph and
Adeline (Guido) Nicosia.
Rosemarie and her husband owned and operated
Gino's Restaurant in Plattsburgh for several years. Rosemarie was a member of the Retired
Senior Volunteer Program and was a very active, former resident of Lake View Towers.
Rosemarie was a loving mother and devoted
grandmother. Rosemarie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Theresa Fedele
of Plattsburgh, a daughter and son-in-law, Carmel "Connie" and Kenneth Roberts
of Wingdale, a sister, Aurora "Irene" Altobello of Calif.; five grandchildren,
Laura, Amber, Erica, Timothy, Jake and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband of over 50 years, Gene Fedele, died
in 1993 and a brother, Ricardo Nicosia died previously.

Victor T. Podd, 67, of 255 Beverley Ave., Town of Mount Royal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada,
died Dec. 5, 1999, at his home.
He was born June 17, 1932, in Montreal where he
was a life-long resident.
Mr. Podd was Baron of Newcastle, County of
Wicklow, Republic of Ireland; Lord of Warrington, Glamorgan, Wales; honorary consul
general to the Republic of The Gambia in Canada; Knight of the Ordo Militaris Teutonicus,
Germany, Knight Commander of the Order of St. Lazarus, Ukraine; representative for Canada
on the Governing Council of the Manorial Society of Great Britain; Lt. Col. of the 78th
Fraser Highlanders, St. Helene Garrison, Montreal; member of the Military and Hospitaller
Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem, Canada; and chairman and CEO of Powertex Inc. in
Rouses Point.
He attended the High School of Montreal as well
as the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Montreal where he took courses in design and studio art.
In the years since, he continued his education
with courses in business administration, finance, marketing, advertising and product-sales
management at McGill University and the University of Toronto.
His training in art led to work first in
advertising, which introduced him to sales and marketing, then as a technical illustrator
for a major aircraft-manufacturing firm.
Over the next several years, he worked in
industries that included pharmaceuticals, mining and consumer products.
He was for four years sales-promotion manager,
Pepsi-Cola Canada, Ltd., then director of marketing, Pharmaceutical and Toiletry Division,
J.B. Williams Canada; assistant advertising manager and medical copywriter for Hoffman La
Roche, the worlds largest pharmaceutical company.
His overwhelming drive, entrepreneurship,
memberships and interests led him into a wide variety of business, community, charitable,
political and diplomatic arenas.
He believed "the brain is our largest and
most useful tool. Its like a muscle. If you dont use it, you lose it."
The word "cant" was not a part of his vocabulary and discouraged those
around him from using it.
Victor Podd was chairman and chief executive
officer of Powertex Inc., of Rouses Point, founded by him in 1976 in Alburg, Vt.
Quickly outgrowing this facility, operations were
moved to Fort Montgomery Estates on the U.S.-Canadian border at Rouses Point and of allied
companies operating in Quebec, Canada, and South Carolina.
He was also chairman of real-estate-development
firms in northern New York and Montreal and served on a variety of government councils and
industry boards in both the United States and Canada.
Political, social, community and business
achievements included director of the Private Industry Council, appointed by the New York
state Clinton County Legislature as a representative of Economic Development;
executive-in-residence lecturer for Plattsburgh State; distinguished visiting executive,
Lynchburg College, Lynchburg Va.; elected City Councilor 1968, Town of Mount Royal (served

Drive, Willsboro died at Elizabethtown Community Hospital, Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999.
She was born in Chapeltown, Counties of Leeds and
York, Ireland, Nov. 3, 1907, the daughter of Herbert and Edith (Dunsmore) Brook.
Mrs. Cullum was an assistant in the proof room
for Williams Press before retiring to Willsboro.
Survivors are her husband, Robert Cullum of
Willsboro; two sons, Robert and wife Barbara Cullum of Albany, Eric Cullum of East
Greenbush; two sisters, Muriel Brook and Nora Brook; 11 grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Stuart and Douglas; and a brother,
Eric Brook.

Quint Moore
WESTPORT/PLATTSBURGH William Q. Moore, 88,
of Westport and Plattsburgh, died Dec. 3, 1999, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in the Bronx and graduated from
Xavier Military School in 1929 and served one summer at a military training camp in
Plattsburgh in 1926, his first introduction to the North Country.
He served as a policeman in the New York City
Police Department for 27 years, retiring in 1963.
Later he headed up security at the 1964
Worlds Fair for Pinkerton at the General Motors Pavilion. A frequent visitor to the
Adirondacks over the years, he often stayed in the Westport/Wadhams area with family and
friends.
An avid reader and letter writer, Bill for the
last three years resided at the Stonehelm Senior Lodge in Plattsburgh.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret M. Moore of
the Bronx; and three sons and daughters, Joseph and Mary Lou Moore of Westport, Patrick T.
Moore of Ogdensburg and Hildegarde (Schneider) Moore of Elizabethtown, Denis and Clorinda
Moore of Wadhams, Margaret Moore of Paramus, N.J., Jeannie M. Moore of Monroe, Mary Jane
and Jerry Rigoroso of Yonkers.
He also leaves six grandsons, Billy Moore of Lake

Rock, 40, of Eastline Road, Ballston Spa, died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Saratoga
Hospital. She had been an area resident since 1988.
Tambra graduated with honors from Homer High
School. She attended Syracuse University and was a graduate of Way International Biblical
College with a degree in theology.
She was a Word Over the World Christian Ministry
missionary and had served throughout the U.S., including Florida, Colorado and Montana.
Her missionary service in the Capital District
area included teaching childrens fellowship. She did missionary service in
Plattsburgh for three years, returning to the Capital area in 1998.
Throughout her missionary service, she worked as
an administrative officer for C.L. King & Associates in Albany. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church in Jonesville and the Christian Biblical Council in Latham.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas James
Rock; a son, Edward James Rock of Ballston Spa; a sister, Theresa Wallace, of Homer; and
her mother and father, Paul and Patricia Husted of Homer; a niece, Victoria Dixon; a
nephew, Christopher Dempsey; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9
a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McCleilan St., Schenectady.
Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer.

Schmarder, 52, of Wadhams Road, died Dec. 4, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 6, 1947, the son
of Robert Cornell and Mable (Martha) Williams Schmarder.
He grew up in Corning and
graduated from Corning East High School in 1965. He graduated from University of Buffalo
School of Engineering in 1969 and University of Buffalo School of Management in 1973.
He worked for the Western
Electric Co. in Buffalo as an industrial engineer from 1969-1971, for the City of Buffalo
Department of Administration and Finance as the city budget director from 1973-1985 and
the County of Erie Office of Budget and Management from 1985-1988.
He moved to Elizabethtown in 1988
and was employed until the present by the Essex County Department of Public Health as an
administrative officer.
He sang with the Pleasant Valley
Chorale and United Church of Christ Choir.
He participated in Mathcounts
competition for junior-high school students, sponsored by the Society of Professional
Engineers.
He was a member of the American
Institute of Industrial Engineers.
He was active in amateur radio at
local and state levels, held an extra class license, was a volunteer examiner for FCC
Amateur Radio Exams, section manager for Northern New York American Radio Relay League,
treasurer of Digital Operators Emergency Radio Service and was involved with emergency
communications for Essex County.
He loved living in the
Adirondacks and enjoyed many outdoor activities with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary
Lou Morgan of Elizabethtown; four sons and three daughters-in-law, William Schmarder of
Elizabethtown, Robert and Sharon Schmarder of Buffalo, Michael and Susan Schmarder of
Buffalo and Eric and Michelle Schmarder of Buffalo.
Also two granddaughters,
Evangelista and Katherine, both of Buffalo; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Raymond and
Evanne Schmarder of Portland, Ore., and David Schmarder of Corning; many aunts, uncles,

at Mooers Forks, the son of Moise (Gadbois) and Marie Helene (Houle) Gadway. He was a
retired employee of Republic Steel Corp. Mineville.

1999 from an accidental fall from a ladder. He was born June 26, 1959 at Ticonderoga, the

He is survived by his mother, Rose Harper of Crown Point; his sister, Wanda Harper of
Moriah; and his brother, Christopher of Mayfield.
His father, Willis Harper died Dec. 5, 1989.

Clarence P. Reed
BEEKMANTOWN Clarence P. Reed, 87, formerly of Jersey Swamp Road, died Friday,
Dec. 3, 1999 at the Clinton County Nursing Home. He was born in Beekmantown on Oct. 17,
1912, the son of Samuel R. and Mae (Stone) Reed.
He married the former Florence A. Prophet in Plattsburgh on Sept. 4, 1937. Mr. Reed
worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 15 years until his
retirement in 1980. Mr. Reed was also a farmer and loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jack R.
and Beverley Reed of West Chazy; David C. and Edith Reed of Plattsburgh; and Douglas G.
Reed of Beekmantown; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Wood of St. Albans, Vt.; one son-in-law,
Clayton Cutter of Plattsburgh; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two nieces
and three nephews.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Rosalind Reed Cutter, two brothers and one
sister-in-law, Francis and Geraldine Reed and Carlton Reed, one brother-in-law, Gordon
Wood, and one grandson, Tod Reed.

Plattsburgh followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel.
Albertine M. Sharrow, 83, of Owls Head; and formerly of Holyoke,
Mass., died early Saturday morning, Dec. 4, 1999. Born in Mooers on Feb. 6, 1916, she was
the daughter of the late Edgar and Priscilla Stone Bertrand.
Calling hours will be Monday from 9 until 11:00 A.M. at the Bruso - Desnoyers funeral
home in Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:30 a.m. at St.
Joseph's Church in Owls Head. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke, Mass.
