Donald G. Ryan
Lake
Placid — Donald G. Ryan, 84, of Grandview Avenue in Lake Placid,
passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at the Uihlein Mercy
Center, where he had been a resident for the past three years.
He was
born in Chateaugay on Nov. 28, 1915, the son of Jeremiah and
Catherine (Dormidy) Ryan.
Mr. Ryan
was a graduate of the Lake Placid High School, Class of 1935 and
served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Don was a
postal worker and mail carrier at the U.S. Post Office in Lake
Placid, retiring in the late 1970's.
Mr. Ryan
is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Wrisley) Ryan of Lake Placid;
one son, Paul Ryan and his wife Janice of Niskayuna, N.Y.; a
brother, Edward of Schenectady; three grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Four
sisters, Winifred and Marguerite Ryan, Frances Strack and Rita
Grady and three brothers, Walter, Robert and James Ryan, all died
earlier.
Calling
hours were held on Friday evening, Nov. 10th, at the Clark Funeral
Home in Lake Placid. A Bible Vigil service was held on Friday
evening at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday
morning, Nov. 11, at St. Agnes Church at 11 a.m., with Rev.
Michael Gaffney officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.
In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lake
Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Uihlein Mercy Center in
his memory.
Patricia
L. Boynton, 42,
of Main Street in Keene, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at the
Elizabethtown Community Hospital.
She was
born on Oct. 24, 1958, the daughter of Lyman and the late Mary Ann
(Shackett) Boynton.
No
calling hours will be held. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday,
Nov. 11th at 1 p.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Keene.
Burial will follow in Norton Cemetery in Keene.

Leo W. Miller
West Chazy — Leo W. Miller, 42, of the Military
Turnpike, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, as a result of an
automobile accident.
He was born in Plattsburgh on April 19, 1958, the son of Leo
and Yvonne (Duffany) Miller.
Leo married Noreen DuBrey in St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy
in 1988. Mr. Miller worked as a correction officer for Clinton
Correctional Facility in Dannemora for over 16 years. Mr. Miller
was a member of St. Joseph's Church. He was an avid bowler,
fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Noreen Miller of West Chazy; one
son, Justin Miller of West Chazy; one daughter, Krista Miller of
West Chazy; two stepsons, Scott DuBrey of Plattsburgh and
Christopher Waldron of Dannemora; his mother, Yvonne Miller of
West Chazy; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Maynard Duffany and
his wife Jaunita of Alderson, W.Va., Richard Miller and his wife
Alfreda of West Chazy, Roger Miller and his wife Anna of
Beekmantown and Henry Miller and his wife Brenda of Beekmantown;
and several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Vigil service
will be held at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated Saturday at noon at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Betty Ann (Donivan) McCumber
San Antonio, Texas — Betty Ann (Donivan) McCumber, of
San Antonio, Texas, died Nov. 5, 2000.
She was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 17, 1942, the daughter of
Norman and Veronica (Deso) Donivan.
She worked at the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base and
Plattsburgh Municipal Lighting Department until she moved out of
the area. She was a secretary for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Mark M. McCumber, of San
Antonio, Texas; her mother, Veronica Venne and stepfather, Adrian
Venne of Dannemora; two daughters, Kathy Appleton of Denver,
Colo., and Karrie Green of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Todd Alexander
of San Antonio, Texas, and Jeff Alexander of Huntsville, Texas;
two brothers and their wives, Gary and Phyllis Donivan of
Dannemora and Wayne and Jane Donivan of Glens Falls; one
stepbrother and wife, Derrick and Dolly Venne of Dannemora; three
stepsisters, Theresa and Ronnie Minckler of Ellenburg Center and
Shirley and Dennis Gadway of Mooers Forks and Phyllis and Gary
Donivan of Dannemora; several grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Norman Donivan.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at 11
a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora, with Father Looby
officiating. She will be placed in Whispering Maples Memorial
Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Leo Hofbauer
Peru — Leo Hofbauer, 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000,
at his home on Connors Road in Peru.
He was born in Vienna, Austria, on March 9, 1911, the son of
Anthony and Marie (Zahlbruckner) Hofbauer.
His beloved wife, Mildred (Smith) predeceased him in 1994. His
parents and two sisters, Mary Kaiser and Ruth Hofbauer, also
predeceased him.
A son, Ronald and wife Marion survive him, along with
granddaughters Krystal and Gretchen.
Leo narrowly missed being caught in the Titanic disaster in
1912, as his mother, who was bringing Leo and sister Mary to the
United States to join their father in Buffalo, did not have one
necessary shot needed to board the ill-fated liner. They took
another ship instead.
Leo worked for Georgia Pacific as a sheet metal worker for 29
years and nine months, retiring in the late 1970's. He also,
during his work years, built a lovely home on Cumberland Head
himself. The house was sold when he and Mildred moved to the
current location on Connors Road.
Leo enjoyed playing his keyboard, as he loved music. He liked
dressing up, eating out and going for long drives in the country
to enjoy our gorgeous North Country scenery, which he so loved.
He leaves many friends in this area: the seniors at the
Nutrition sites in Peru and Keeseville and all his nice neighbors
on Connors Road. They will miss him and his loving companion of
four years, Bettye Meisner, will miss him most of all.
A memorial service for Leo has been planned at the Seventh Day
Adventist Church of Plattsburgh on Route 22 for 3 p.m. on Sunday,
Nov. 18th.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your
choice in his name.
Dennis Howard McCreless II
Ellenburg Depot — Dennis Howard McCreless II, 48, of
603 Bull Run Road in Ellenburg Depot, died Wednesday, Nov. 8,
2000, at his home, under the care of his family and Hospice of the
North Country.
He was born in Florence, Ala., on Aug. 1, 1952, the son of
Dennis and Jeanette (Howell) McCreless Sr.
He was married to the former Sherryl Hart on Dec. 18, 1971, in
St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.
Mr. McCreless is survived by his wife of 29 years; two
daughters, Holly Garceau and her husband Michael of Ellenburg and
Myndi McCreless and her companion Robert Almodovar of Plattsburgh;
a son, Dennis McCreless III of Ellenburg Depot; his mother,
Jeanette McCreless of Florence, Ala.; two sisters, Mr. and Mrs.
Lance Bretherick of Greenhill, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. George
Mojica of Florence, Ala.; three brothers, Mr. and Mrs. James
McCreless of Central, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. Charlie McCreless of
Florence, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald McCreless of Florence,
Ala.; six grandchildren; his father-in-law, George Hart of
Ellenburg Depot; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Delbert Hart of Ellenburg Depot, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hart of
Champlain, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tourville of Ellenburg Center and Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Hollingdale of Robinson, Maine; 26 nieces and
nephews; 19 great-nieces and nephews; three aunts and one uncle.
Those that preceded in death were his father; and his
mother-in-law, Mrs. Elsie Hart.
Mr. McCreless was employed as a correction officer with the New
York State Department of Corrections, with his current assignment
at Chateaugay. He was a member of St. Edmund’s Church in
Ellenburg, involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a leader and
a member of E.C.C.O.E.
He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force,
serving from 1970 to 1973.
Visitation will be held at the family home on the Bull Run Road
on Friday, Nov. 10th, from noon to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, in St. Edmund’s Church,
with Rev. Joseph Trombley officiating. Cremation will take place
at Green Mountain Crematory, Middlebury, Vt.
Donations in his memory may be made to his wife and family.
Funeral arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home in
Chateaugay.
Teresa G. Antkowiak
Rouses Point — Teresa G. (Wallace) Antkowiak, 89,
formerly of White Street in Schenectady, died Nov. 7, 2000, after
a long illness at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.
She was born in Schenectady, attended school there and lived
most of her life in Schenectady.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Church in
Schenectady and belonged to the "Trainman Sisters Railroad
Organization."
Her husband, Edward Antkowiak, died on Nov. 12, 1991.
She is survived by her son, Michael Antkowiak of Champlain; two
grandsons, Jason and Jarrod Antkowiak of Champlain; and several
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers
Hugh, Frank, George and Irving Wallace and her sister, Clara Plue.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, from 7 to 9
p.m. at the Leszczynski Funeral Home, 778 Eastern Avenue,
Schenectady. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to
attend. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000,
at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home, then to St. Mary’s Church,
828 Eastern Avenue, where a Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated at 9 a.m. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in
Schenectady.

Wayne M. King
Memphis, Tenn. — Wayne M. King, of Memphis, Tenn.,
died at Memphis Veteran’s Medical Center on Oct. 15, 2000.
He was born in Willsboro on Feb. 24, 1934, the son of Mark and
Margaret King.
He was a Korean War U.S. Marine Corp veteran and a U.S. Army
veteran, serving in the airborne division during the Vietnam War.
He was predeceased by his parents of Willsboro and one son,
Ronnie of Memphis, Tenn.
He is survived by his wife Ellie, a son Robert and a daughter
Jenny of Memphis, Tenn., and a son, Wayne Jr. of Florida; and five
brothers and two sisters and their spouses, James and Danice King
of Fort Edward, Michael and Carol King of Plattsburgh, Gary and
Beverly King, Daniel and Bonnie King, Warren King and Bob and
Charlotte (King) Burt, all of Willsboro and Conrad and Janice
(King) Hutchins of Elizabethtown.
Burial was in the West Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery.
James N. Cayea, 70, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh,
died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 13, 1929, the son of the
late Jophn and Elvina (Senecal) Cayea.
Calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at
the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be
held at 12:30 p.m. from the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will

P. Daniel Baker, 79, of Margaret Street in Malone, died
Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1921, in South Royalton, Vt., the son
of the late Peter and Rose Ann (Emard) Baker.
Calling hours will be Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m.
in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at 10 a.m. in

Rita M. Bancroft, 82, of Saratoga Road, Glenville, N.Y.,
died on Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at home after a short illness.
She was born in Salem, Mass.
Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the Glenville
Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph’s
Church in Scotia. Burial was in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in
Niskayuna, N.Y.
Wetzel Dickson, 91, of Glenn Road, Jacksonville, Ark., died
on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital in Little
Rock, Ark.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1909, in Lewis, the son of Joseph and
Etta (Darling) Dickson.
Graveside services were held on Nov. 3, 2000, at Chapel Hill
Cemetery in the "Garden of Love."

Bernard E. Reome Sr.
Morrisonville — Mr. Bernard E. Reome Sr., 74, of the Banker
Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Mooers Forks on Jan. 12, 1926, the son of the
late Dewey and Evelina (Bodah.)
Bernard was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S.
Army. He worked for Murnane's Associates as a labor foreman until
he retired in 1986. Bernard was an active member of the Laborers
Local 186 for 40 years. He was a Life Member of the Veteran of
Foreign Wars Post 125, Plattsburgh and the American Legion Post
1619, West Plattsburgh.
Bernard volunteered chauffeuring disabled veterans to Albany
for treatments. He enjoyed auto racing, wrestling and volunteering
helping his friends and various organizations. He was a member of
St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (LaPorte)
Reome of Morrisonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Bernard and
Toni Reome Jr., of Morrisonville; two daughters and two
sons-in-law, Linda and Frank Provost of Cadyville and Betty and
Tim O'Neill of Morrisonville; a brother and a sister-in-law,
Ezriel and Marie Reome of Plattsburgh; a sister and
brother-in-law, Maude and Dick Brown of Altona; six grandchildren;
eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and
Dewey Hemingway; and a son-in-law, Kenneth Manion.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander’s Church
in Morrisonville. Interment will follow in the family plot in St.
Alexander’s Cemetery in Morrisonville.
Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 and the
American Legion Post 1619 are asked to meet Thursday evening at 7
p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home for services.
Katherine L. "Kay" Caron
Plattsburgh — Katherine L. "Kay" Caron, 79, of Blue
Heron Drive in Peru and a winter home in Punta Gorda, Fla.,
entered into the arms of God on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., on Dec. 14, 1920, the
daughter of Frederick and Clarissa E. (Rivers) Russell.
Katherine graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1939
from Peru Central School. She raised her family, returned to
college and received her master's degree from Plattsburgh State.
Katherine taught school at St. Peter's Elementary School and Our
Lady of Victory Academy.
She was a member of the Knight's of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary
and the Ladies of the Elks in Punta Gorda, Fla. Katherine was a
member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. She was an
avid reader.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mose N. Caron
of Peru. They were married on Sept. 30, 1939, at St. Augustine's
Church in Peru.
She is also survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary
and Carol Caron of New Hartford, Arthur and Arlene Caron of
Keeseville and Russell and Carol Caron of Peru; two daughters and
a son-in-law, Nina Williams of Bartlesville, Okla., and Margaret
and Christopher Stewart of Plattsburgh; 13 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; brothers in-law and sisters-in-law, Alfred
Caron of Plattsburgh, Ferna and Leonard Facteau of Cadyville,
Velma Gainer of Plattsburgh, Rita Caron of Cadyville, Gertrude and
Edmond Demerse of Daytona Beach, Fla., Dorothy Caron of
Plattsburgh and Mary "Lydia" Bradley of Plattsburgh; and
several nieces and nephews.
Katherine was predeceased by four children, Eileen Caron,
Claire Caron, Robert Caron and Julie Caron.

service will be held Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the funeral

Lorraine L. Bouyea
Plattsburgh — Lorraine L. Bouyea, 70, of Bushey Boulevard,
died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Nov. 23, 1929, the
daughter of Albert and Anna (Lundberg) Harms.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard
Bouyea of Tamarac, Fla., Russell Bouyea of Plattsburgh and Ronald
and Kerri Frenya of Plattsburgh; four daughters and three
sons-in-law, Betty Rascoe of Plattsburgh, Bonnie and Norman
Nicholson of Princeton, Maine, Beverly and Darry Norcross of
Cadyville and Renee and Wayne LaPierre of West Chazy; two sisters,
Evelyn Everett of Tulsa, Okla., and Eleanor Brown of Roseau,
Minn.; eight grandchildren, Connie Fesette, Kevin Norcross, Brian
Norcross, Danny Nicholson, Travis Nicholson, Matthew Bouyea and
Michael DuBrey; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral service will be private for the family
at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in
St. Alexander’s Cemetery.

Joan M. Rascoe
MORRISONVILLE — Joan M. Rascoe, 66, of Route 3, died Tuesday,
Nov. 7, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born in Plattsburgh on March 23, 1934, the daughter of
Durward B. and Teresa M. (Fitzpatrick) Scribner.
Joan was a member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville
and was a former president of the North Country Squares. She
retired from Wyeth-Ayerst after 19 years of loyal service.
Joan enjoyed her family and grandchildren, especially visiting
her daughter's family in Alaska and also helping another daughter
at the Keeseville Bakery. She volunteered as a playground monitor
at St. Peter's School, where her great-grandchildren attended.
Joan enjoyed square dancing and was actively involved for 20
years, until she became disabled.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Herman F. Rascoe of
Morrisonville; one son, Dominic F. Rascoe and his fiancee,
Patricia Dagley of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Teresa E.
Schwartz and her fiancee, Jim Rule of Port Kent, JoAnne M.
Petersen and her husband Todd of Anchorage Alaska, and Roxanne M.
Bova and her husband David of Plattsburgh; one brother, Durward
Scribner and his wife Sandy of Wells, N.Y.; nine grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and a son, Brian Rascoe.

Keeseville — Robert J. "Bob" Mitchell Sr., 74, of
the Hallock Hill Road, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at his home
while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North
Country.
He was born on Buck Hill, Sept. 10, 1926, the son of Arthur F.

He married the former Virginia C. Douglas on Sept. 7, 1948, at
St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville.
Robert worked for many years at A. Mason & Sons in Peru as
a truck driver, salesman and carpenter. In July of 1966, he went
on to work at Keeseville National Bank in the Department of
Collections, where he also was courier for the bank and did
appraisals. Thereafter he became managing officer of collections
until his retirement in October of 1988.
He served the Town of AuSable as Town Justice after being
elected to office in 1968. He then continued on the town board as
councilman until his appointment as Town Supervisor, where he
served until his retirement in January 1999.
Robert enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cooking, hunting and
fishing. He loved spending time with his family and doing for
others. He was an active member of the Keeseville Knights of
Columbus and an active member of the Catholic Community of
Keeseville.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; four daughters and three
sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Jim Cleveland of Plattsburgh, Patricia
Mitchell of New Redford, Mass., Katherine and John Carson of
Elmira and Theresa and Michael Chauvin of Red Hook; four sons and
daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Charlotte Mitchell of Waterford,
Arthur and Anna Mitchell of Scotia, David and Robin Mitchell of
Gansevoort and Thomas and Wendy Mitchell of Schoharie; 15
grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Cleveland, Jeffrey, Adam and
David Carson, Christopher and Jason Chauvin, Beth, James and
Carolina Mitchell, Gregory and Shannon Mitchell and Samantha,
Morgan and Alexander Mitchell; two great-granddaughters, Madison
Cleveland and Elizabeth Carson; five brothers and sisters-in-law,
Harold and Florence Mitchell of Morrisonville, Raymond and Grace
Mitchell of Cohoes, Walter Mitchell of Peru, Daniel R. and Mildred
Mitchell of Plattsburgh and Jerry and Ann Mitchell of Westport;
and several nieces, nephews and five cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Marie Fitzgerald;
a brother, Leo Mitchell; and a grandson, Thomas Patrick Mitchell
Jr.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Members of the
Keeseville Knights of Columbus will meet at the funeral home for a
service at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated
Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in
Keeseville, with Rev. Garvin Demarais, pastor, celebrating. Burial
will follow in the parish cemetery.

Keeseville — Myra Elizabeth Thew, 85, of the Keeseville
Country Gardens, went to be with her Lord and savior, Thursday,
Nov. 2, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Crown Point on Feb. 7, 1915, the daughter of
Sidney and Ida (Burtt) Jacobs.
Mrs. Thew worked at the Pepsi Plant in Keeseville, as the head
clerk at Joe Safford's Variety Store and was a taxi driver for
Bill Murphy's Taxi in Keeseville.
She belonged to the Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in
Keeseville and enjoyed knitting, playing cards and reading.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and
Andrea Thew of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Jeffery,
Timothy, Everett and Deanna Audrey; four great-grandchildren,
Vincent, Victor, Zachery and Veronica; and her friends at the
Keeseville Country Gardens.
She was predeceased by her husband Roger in 1970; and her
brother Oscar in 1980.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service will
be held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Good Shepherd
Church of the Nazarene in Keeseville, with Pastor David Drake
officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Port Douglas
Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to Judes Research for
children, or to the Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene.

Milton S. Gross
Berkeley, Calif. — Milton S. Gross, 81, died Nov. 5, 2000, at
the home of his son, Joseph Gross, in Berkeley, Calif., of
pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Dec. 11, 1918, to Ernest and
Katherine (Ney) Gross and raised in Elyria, Ohio.
He received his bachelor of arts from Oberlin College in 1940
and a masters degree in history from Western Reserve University.
Mr. Gross served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving
an honorable discharge.
He taught high school English and social studies for many
years, retiring from the New York City Public School system in
1978, when he moved to Buxton, Maine. He moved to Belmont, Mass.,
in 1995 and to Berkeley, Calif., several months before his death.
Mr. Gross was married to Frances Ross from 1941 to 1955 and to
Dorothy Alexander Weisman from 1965 until her death in 1985.
He is survived by a daughter, Toni Gross, of Oakland, Calif.;
two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Gross and Carol Brosgart,
M.D., of Berkeley and William and Charlotte Gross of Copenhagen,
Denmark; and a stepdaughter, Judith Weisman, M.D., of Plattsburgh.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jeannette Gross,
Katie, Lucia and Michael Brosgart, Jazbo and Spencer Gross and
Gabriel and Dana Malseptic; one great-grandchild; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Dorothy Gross; and
a brother, Sidney Gross.
A graveside service will be held at Temple Beth El Memorial
Park, Portland, Maine, on Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. A minyan service
will be held at the home of Dr. Judith Weisman on Saturday, Nov.
11, at 7 p.m. and the family will sit shiva on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Joyce "Joy" Pelkey Pasetta
Redlands, Calif. — Joyce "Joy" Pelkey Pasetta, 61,
passed away on Oct. 5, 2000, at the Redlands Community Hospital,
Redlands, Calif., of cancer.
She was born to Freeman and Marian (Ryan) Pelkey of
Elizabethtown on Dec. 26, 1938.
Joy was employed by IBM and recently retired after 30 years.
During this time, Joy and her husband of 25 years, Ray Pasetta,
lived in various parts of the country, including California, Texas
and Nevada.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Theresa
Pelkey Franklin.
Joy is survived by her husband Ray of Running Springs, Calif.,
and three children, all of California; two brothers, Sherman
Pelkey of Plattsburgh and Mike Pelkey of Mineville; one sister,
Eleanor Sheridan of Syracuse; three brothers-in-law with families;
and many nieces and nephews.
Joy was friend to all who knew her and will forever live in the
hearts and memories of those who came to know what a generous and
considerate person she was.

She was born in Altona on July 29, 1940, the daughter of Edgar

She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Steven
Arquette of Morrisonville, Raymond John and Tammy Arquette of
Duanesburg, N.Y., and Dennis Scott and Amy Arquette of
Morrisonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and William
Rogoza of Granville, N.Y., and Sandra and Daniel Woodrow of
Mechanicville, N.Y.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, David and
Madeline Hemingway of Jericho, Leo and Marjorie Hemingway of
Mooers Forks and Anthony and Jamie Hemingway of Morrisonville; one
sister and a brother-in-law, Bertha and James Armstrong of Altona;
11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers and three sisters died before her.

died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Austria on Nov. 25, 1911, the son of Anthony and
Marie (Zahlbruckner) Hofbauer.

Orville D. "Bud" Covey, 75, of 327
Trenton Avenue in Findlay, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at
his home.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at
10 a.m. at the Covey family plot at Riverside Cemetery, with the
Rev. Ralph Chapman, pastor of the Turnpike Wesleyan Church,
officiating. Following the committal service, there will be a
gathering of family and friends at the Beekmantown Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 1466 on the Spellman Road.

John P. "Jack" Johnson
Plattsburgh — Mr. John P. "Jack"
Johnson, 73, of the Barton Road, Cumberland Head, died Monday,
Nov. 6, 2000, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Rochester, on May 15, 1927, the son of the late
John and Ethel (Yando) Johnson.
Jack graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1945. He
entered the U.S. Army in October 1945 and was honorably discharged
in November 1946. While in the service, he was a member of the
329th Army Service Band.
He started working with his father in the painting business
when he was 14 years old. In the early 1950's, he was in
partnership with his brother Robert until 1968, when he moved to
Plattsburgh and started Johnson Painting Corporation with his
wife, Charlotte. The business has expanded to include Vermont and
other New England States.
In 1960, he, his father John, his brother Robert and his
stepbrother, Phil Savage, developed and operated Moon Valley Ski
Center until it was sold in 1968. It currently is being operated
as Titus Mountain.
Jack was a Life Member of Anivets Post 8 in Malone. He was a
member of the Malone Town Band and the local National Guard Band.
He was also a member of the Malone Country Club and the North
Country Golf Club. He served on the Grievance Board for the Town
of Plattsburgh for many years.
Jack was an avid hunter, skier and enjoyed bowling. He obtained
his pilot’s license in the early 1960's and flew both single
engine planes and his helicopter. He often flew his helicopter to
visit job sites and to visit family in Malone.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
Malone Lodge 1303 and the Plattsburgh Lodge 621 for a total of 52
years. He was an especially active member of BPOE 621, serving on
numerous committees. Jack served as Exalted Ruler in 1979 to 1980
and was District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in 1988 to 1989. He
gave freely of his time and resources on any project that was
undertaken. His presence and counsel will be missed. Jack was a
member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head.
Jack is survived by his wife of 29 years, the former Charlotte
(Johnson) Johnson of Plattsburgh; two brothers and two
sisters-in-law, Robert and Janet Johnson of Malone and Donald and
Janet Johnson of Salem, S.C.; a stepbrother and his wife, Phillip
and Andrea Savage of Malone; a stepsister, Beverly Castiglone of
Liverpool; a son and a daughter-in-law, Joseph and Mary Johnson of
Malone; a daughter and a son-in-law, Mary Ann and Robert Willett
of Malone; three stepsons and their spouses, Thomas and Laura
Raville, Brian and Paige Raville and Greg and Kristi Raville, all
of Plattsburgh; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Mitchell, Chad and
Danielle Johnson, Robert and Ashley Wilett, all of Malone, Chris
and Erin Raville, Dylan, Gretchen and Emily Raville, all of
Plattsburgh; a nephew, Michael Johnson of Wilmington, N.C.; two
nieces, Jennifer Johnson of Greenville, S.C., and Janine Johnson
Abbott of Malone; several other nieces and nephews also survive
him.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his former
wife, Hazel Rouselle; his stepmothers, Ann Farley Johnson in 1957
and Belle Savage Johnson in 1989; and a half brother, Gordon
Crossman in 1958.

Helen Repas Arnold
Princeton, N.J. — Helen Repas Arnold of 16 Greenland Court,
Princeton, N.J., died at her apartment in New York City on Monday
morning, Nov. 6, 2000. She was 50.
Born in Potsdam, N.Y., she earned a B.A. in history at Vassar
College in 1972 and an M. Phil. in economic history at Yale
University in 1975.
She worked at Jones Lang Wootton, a British real estate firm
located in New York City, for 15 years. Joining the firm as a
research associate in 1981, she rose through the ranks to become
one of the six managing directors that administered all North
American operations. Since 1997, she was a Managing Director at
Cushman & Wakefield Inc., an international firm specializing
in commercial real estate, headquartered in New York City.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, R. Douglas Arnold
of Princeton; a sister, Constance Repas of Plattsburgh; and her
mother, Irma Repas, also of Plattsburgh.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at 3
p.m. in the Princeton University Chapel, with a reception
afterward at Prospect House.

MINEVILLE — Joseph Kalna, 86, of Plank Road died
Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in
Burlington, Vt.
He was born on May 8, 1914 in Witherbee, N.Y.,
the son of Joseph and Susan (Biro) Kalna.
He had been employed at the Republic Steel
Corp. in Mineville.
He was a veteran of WWII and was a member of
VFW Post #6962 of Port Henry.
Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Kalna; his
son, Joseph W. Kalna of Sommerville, Mass.; his grandson, Joseph
H. Kalna of Sommerville; his sister, Irene Mullen of Irwin, Pa.

CHATEAUGAY — Florence M. McCormick, 79, of
Church Street died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Alice Hyde Medical
Center in Malone.
Born in Churubusco on June 17, 1921, she was
the daughter of Fred and Fannie (Denno) Miner.
She was married to Peter H. McCormick on Aug.
25, 1952 at Notre Dame Church, Malone, by the Rev. Gerald Seguin.
Mr. McCormick predeceased her on April 7, 1997.
Mrs. McCormick is survived by five daughters
and sons-in-law, Eileen and David Elwood of Cooperstown, N.Y.,
Caroly and James Riley of Delanson, N.Y., Patricia and Peter Coons
of Athens, N.Y., Rita and Patrick Ryan of Williston, Vt., and
Evelyn and Richard Ashfield of Rouses Point; two sisters, Lillian
Miner of Chateaugay and Gertrude Cole of Churubusco; two brothers,
H. Willard Miner of Chateaugay and Thomas Miner of Chateaugay; 10
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Those that preceded in death were her husband;
two brothers, Raymond and Fred Minter; and two sisters, Doris
Miner and Rose LeClair.
Mrs. McCormick aided her husband in the
operation of the family farm on the McCormick Road, Chateaugay
until their retirement in 1980. She was a devoted wife and mother.
A communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Chateaugay, a member of
the St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society, Burke Grange, and
former member of the Court St. Helen #100; Catholic Daughters of
America. Florence took great pride in working with the youth at
release time religion class at St. Patrick’s and was a volunteer
at most Knights of Columbus events in Chateaugay.

Andrew Joseph Powvorznik
Ticonderoga — Andrew Joseph Powvorznik, 59,
of Alexandria Avenue, passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at
Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, Vt.
Born in Port Henry on Oct. 18, 1941, he was the
son of the late Andrew and Rose (Wojewodzic) Powvorznik.
Andy was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga. He
operated the local American Legion Barber Shop for the past 40
years.
Andy so loved the Ticonderoga community that he
dedicated his entire life to it. He served as Town Councilman for
the past 22 years. During his lifetime, he was actively involved
in the St. Isaac Jogues Council No. 333 Knights of Columbus, the
Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks No. 1494, the Jaycees
and the Ticonderoga High School Booster Club.
For many years, Andy has worked toward
providing opportunities for the youth of Ticonderoga. He played a
vital role in creating and developing the Ticonderoga Youth
Commission. He has also been an integral part of the Ticonderoga
Junior Miss Program, serving for many years as its Program
Director. His dedication to this event for the past 36 years
serves as a testament of his love and commitment to this program.
For all of his years of community service, Andy
has receive numerous awards of recognition. These include Junior
Miss Outstanding Local Chairman, Elks Distinguished Citizenship
Award and Outstanding Citizen Citation for the New York State

Ticonderoga and John Johnson and his wife Lori of Delanson; one
niece, Janette Glading and her husband Evan of Ticonderoga;
several great-nephews and great-nieces, Karajon, Jarod and Merina
Johnson, all of Ticonderoga, Matthew and Melissa Johnson of
Delanson and Alissa and Evan Glading of Ticonderoga; and a good
friend, John Ingleston of Ticonderoga.

Monday, Nov. 6th, at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 33
Algonkin Street in Ticonderoga. A Catholic Wake Service will be
conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Ticonderoga
Elks Lodge will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow at 7:30 p.m. Monday at
the funeral home.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Richard
Huber and the Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw will officiate. Interment
will take place at a later date at the family plot of St. Mary’s
Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.
Andy’s dream was to develop a recreation and
swimming area for the youth of Ticonderoga in the Lord Howe Street
area.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested
that donations in his memory to support this project may be sent

Robert ‘Bob’ Pombrio
CHAZY LANDING — Robert "Bob"
Pombrio of 1684 Lake Shore Road died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 at
Fletcher Allen Hospital at the age of 78.
Bob was born on May 2, 1922, the son of Leeward
and Emma (Dragoon) Pombrio of Sciota.
In the course of his lifetime Bob pursued many
ventures. He worked for Irona Milk Haulers, the Clinton County
Sheriff’s Department, Hutchinson Pontiac and Tripp TV in
Dannemora. He owned and operated Pombrio Trucking and Leasing in
Chazy for many years. Bob was a generous man with a sharp wit.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, the
former Betty (Harvey) Phaneuf of Chazy; six children, Marvin and
his wife Judy Pombrio of Chazy, Sherry and her husband Bruce
Scofield of Milton, Vt., Bruce and his wife Brenda Phaneuf of West
Chazy, Emy Lee Pombrio of Plattsburgh, Sheen and his wife Lora
Pombrio of Chazy, and Shawn Pombrio of Chazy; his sisters and
brothers, Helene and her husband Willard Kellett of Bradenton,
Fla., William and his wife Bertha Pombrio of Dannemora; Sherman
and his wife Shirley Pombrio of Sciota and Verda LaTourneau of
Chazy; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ethel Harvey of
Lockport, Naomi Harvey of Rouses Point, Charles and his wife
Jackie Harvey of Champlain; four grandsons; several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Marshall Pombrio and
his sister, Dorothy Pombrio.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at a time to
be announced at Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will follow at
Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Plattsburgh.

Darrel Lee Snyder
Plattsburgh
— Darrel Lee Snyder, 49, of the Salmon River Road, on loan to us
from the Lord, has returned to the Lord's Arms on Nov. 3, 2000.
He was
born in Malone on Jan. 1, 1951, the son of Leonard R. and Margaret
E. (Sharlan) Snyder.
Darrel
married the former Trudy A. LaForest on July 29, 1972, at St.
Augustine's Church in Peru.
He worked
at Imperial Wall Covering for 24 years and was very active with
the local Boy Scouts organization as an assistant leader and
leader.
He loved
hunting, fishing and also enjoyed helping his wife with the
children at her daycare.
Survivors
include his wife, Trudy A. Snyder of Plattsburgh; one daughter,
Deanna M. Snyder of Plattsburgh; three brothers and three
sisters-in-law, Karl and Margaret Snyder of AuSable, Curtis and
Sue Snyder of Plattsburgh and John and Becky Snyder of Sanford,
N.C.; two sisters, Sharon Agnew of Jacksonville, N.C., and Brenda
Morrow of West Chazy; his mother-in-law, Marion LaForest of
Plattsburgh; two very special friends, William Gregoire and Robert
Lattrell; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling
hours will be held Sunday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A vigil service will be held
Sunday evening at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru,
with Rev. Vicente Jazmines, pastor, celebrating. Entombment will
follow at the Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.

Nelsina (Peg) Troskowski
AuSable
Forks — Nelsina (Peg) Troskowski, 80, of North Main Street, died
Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was
born on Oct. 7, 1920, in AuSable Forks, the daughter of Frank and
Permelia (Nelson) Fountain.
Peg
worked with the 1980 Olympic Committee and she was secretary for
the principal of Keene Central School for several years. Peg also
served as an officer in different positions and as a volunteer in
the kitchen and dining room of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post
504. She was a member and volunteer for Holy Name parish, serving
on various projects. She was an avid bowler at the Riverside
Ladies Bowling League.
She is
survived by her husband, Theodore J. Troskowski of AuSable Forks,
whom she married Oct. 27, 1939, in Albany; a son and
daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathie Troskowski of East Schodack;
four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sister Carole Marie of Monroe,
Linda and Bill Miller of Dalton, Mass., Nancy and Michael Bryant
of Baltimore Md., and Pamela Laverty of Albany; ten grandchildren,
Denise, Dawn, Amy, Nicole, Eric, Jacob, Lance, Rachael, Zachary
and Jane; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Krysta and Mark;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her
brother, Francis Fountain and sister, Jane Fountain, predeceased
her.
Visitation
hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. The American Legion Auxiliary will
hold a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. and Rev. Favreau will have a
prayer vigil at 7:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11
a.m. on Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks, with
burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Catherine May Wilson
Saranac
Lake — Catherine May Wilson, 79, of Morrisonville, died Friday,
Nov. 3, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was
born on Oct. 9, 1921, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Kenneth and
Emelia (Premore) Hale.
Mrs.
Wilson has been a resident of Morrisonville for the past five
years and was a former resident of Loon Lake and Bloomingdale. She
loved reading, knitting, ceramics and visiting with friends and
family. She devoted her life to her family.
Mrs
Wilson married Elmer "Joe" Wilson on May 26, 1945, in
Plattsburgh. He predeceased her on Nov. 6, 1995.
Survivors
include a daughter, Gail Wilson Gagnon of Morrisonville; a son,
Gary Wilson of Vermontville; two grandsons, Erik Gagnon of
Morrisonville and Darren Wilson of Vermontville; a granddaughter,
Jeannine Prather of Vermontville; a brother, Edward Hale of
Beekmantown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was
also predeceased by a sister, Mayfred L. Rougeau.
There
will be no calling hours or services. Friends wishing to remember
Mrs. Wilson may make contributions to Hospice of the North
Country, 386 Rugar St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
The
Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake is in charge of

Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh.

of Alexandria Avenue in Ticonderoga, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000,

born in Port Henry on Oct. 18, 1941, the son of the late Andrew
and Rose (Wojewodzic) Powvorznik.
