Vincent Joseph McKenna
Smithfield,
N.C. — Vincent Joseph McKenna, 85, of Smithfield, N.C., passed
away at Sunbridge Care in Mount Olive, N.C., on Aug. 28, 2000.
He was
born in Brooklyn on Aug. 8, 1915, the son of the late Thomas J.
and Sara (Holland) McKenna.
He was a
resident of Clinton County most of his life. He had worked at
Powblade for several years and Shelton's Service, both in
Plattsburgh. He moved to North Carolina about five years ago.
Survivors
include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Vincent W. McKenna of
North Carolina, Patrick McKenna of Peru, Dale and Patty McKenna of
Goldsboro, N.C., and Calvin (Michael) and Judy McKenna of Peru;
two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jerry and Judy Austin of
Princeton, N.C., and Gerard and Mary Reyell of Morrisonville; 19
grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-granddaughter.
A
daughter and two sons died earlier.
The wake
was held Aug. 31, 2000, at Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton,
N.C., with a burial service following at Baker's Chapel. Rev. Joe
Baker officiated. Pallbearers were two sons, Patrick McKenna and
Dale McKenna and two grandsons, Thomas Reyell and Benjamin Reyell.
Nellie A. Cowin

Henry — Nellie A. Cowin, 91, of the Westport Road in Port Henry,
died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in
Ticonderoga.
Mrs Cowin
was born on July 10, 1909, at Brandon, Vt., the daughter of
William A. and Lillian S. Brown.
She is
survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph and Janet Cowin
of Chever and Wallace (Robert) Cowin of Chever; four daughters and
a son-in-law, Edna Rogers of Port Henry, Lillian Humiston of
Fulton, Athleen (Cathy) Hamm of Syracuse and Syliva and William
Munson of Crown Point; 29 grandchildren; several great- and
great-great-grandchildren; her godson, Jaylee Munson of Hudson;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Roland Cowin, in 1947; and her sons,
Roland G. Cowin in 1964 and Rodney Cowin in 1973.
Calling
hours were Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at
the funeral home, with the Rev. Alice Hobbs officiating. Burial
will follow in the Union Cemetery in Port Henry.
Memorial

David M. Sanger
Castleton
— David M. Sanger, 71, of Crescent Drive, died Wednesday, Sept.
13, 2000, at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was
born in Ingraham and had lived in Castleton for over 30 years. He
had worked for over 30 years at the New York Farm Bureau in
Glenmont, retiring in the late 1980’s. He was a former fire
commissioner at the South Schodack Fire Company.
He is
survived by his wife, Margaret Rasmussen Sanger; three sons,
George Sanger of Valatie, Martin Sanger of Nassau and Timothy
Sanger of Remsen; two daughters, Nancy Capuano of Chester, Va.,
and Lois Michalek of Howes Caves; one brother, Phillip Sanger of
West Chazy; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was
predeceased by a son, John R. Sanger and a brother, Benjamin
Sanger.
A
memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at 2 p.m. at
St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1583 Carney Road in
Castleton.

Scott Drive in Malone, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the

He was
born in Plattsburgh on April 2, 1960, the son of the late Bernard

Harold J.
Johnson, 77, of
the Whippleville Road in Malone and a winter resident of
Titusville, Fla., formerly of Fort Covington, died Friday, Sept.
15, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.
He was
born in Chasm Falls on Oct. 18, 1922, the son of the late William
and Madge (Thomas) Johnson.
There are
no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated
Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, with the
Rev. Martin Farrell officiating. Burial will be in the old St.
Mary's Cemetery in Fort Covington.

the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.

Brewster Sr., 71,
of River Street in Lake Placid, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at
the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
He was
born in Whallonsburg on Sept. 27, 1926, the son of Franklin and
Elizabeth (Belmore) Brewster.
There
will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday,
Sept. 19th, at 11 a.m. at the St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid.
This will be combined with a Memorial Mass for his daughter,
Joann. Rev. Michael Gaffney, pastor, will officiate.

W. Luck, 95,
formerly of Old Barn Road in Lake Placid, died Tuesday, Sept. 12,
2000, at the Uihlein Mercy Center.
She was
born in Leinach, Germany, on March 12, 1905, the daughter of Franz
and Maria Weisenberger.
There are
no calling hours. Services and burial will be at the convenience
of the family.

Benham, 83, of
the Days Mills Road in Hopkinton, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000,
at the Canton Potsdam Hospital.
He was
born in Hopkinton on Jan. 29, 1917, the son of Napoleon Benham and
Agnes Fisk.
Funeral
services will be on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at the Nicolville
United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Waldron
officiating. The church will be open from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for
calling hours. Burial will be in the Mound Hill Cemetery at a
later date.

Brother Paul Bolduc
Alfred,
Maine — Brother Paul Bolduc, a Brother of Christian Instruction
and former teacher and bursar at Mount Assumption High School,
died suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at the Brothers'
motherhouse in Alfred, Maine. He was 72.
Brother
joined the Brothers in 1958 and began teaching at the Brothers'
school in Detroit, Mich. In 1970, he was transferred to Mount
Assumption and taught math. After a short stay, he taught at Denis
Hall Junior High in Alfred and helped in the orchards on the
Brothers' property. He returned to Mount Assumption in 1986, to
serve as bursar for the next five years.
In 1990,
Brother was afforded an opportunity to travel to Europe and attend
a religious renewal session at the world headquarters of the
Brothers. He completed his travels three years later after serving
as a missionary in the Brothers' Haitian communities.
Since
1993, he has been actively retired at the community retirement
house in Alfred.
Brother
is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Levasseur of Biddeford
Maine and Mrs. Pauline Porter of Wilmington, Del.; and a cousin,
Mr. Marc Bolduc of Biddeford, Maine.
The
funeral was on Thursday, Sept. 14th, at the Brothers' chapel in
Alfred, with burial in the Brothers' cemetery.
Katherine Stafford Miller
PLATTSBURGH
— Katherine Stafford Miller, 76, of Stafford Drive, passed away
on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare
Facility.
Mrs.
Miller was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 15, 1923, the daughter of
Elmer and Cora (Stratton) Stafford. She married Ralph W. Miller on
Feb. 22, 1946. He passed away on Sept. 25, 1995.
Kay
graduated from Plattsburgh High School and received bachelors’
and masters’ degrees in education from Plattsburgh State. She
was a Home Economics teacher for 35 years, mostly at Saranac High
School, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Plattsburgh
United Methodist Church and actively involved in the United
Methodist Women. She also served on the administrative board and
the staff-parish relations committee.
She is
survived by a son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Andrew S.
Miller, Theresa LaPoint-Miller and Elizabeth LaPoint of Clifton
Park; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Frank Hamilton of
Lake Worth, Fla., and Ruth and Clifford Bates of Peru; and many
other cherished relatives.
A
memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at 1
p.m. in the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church, followed by a
reception in the church social hall where the family may be
greeted.

Elsie M. Frechette
DeLand,
Fla. — Elsie M. Frechette, 85, of Evergreen Terrance, DeLand,
Fla., died on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000.
She was
born in Georgia and was a former resident of Plattsburgh.
She was a
member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in DeLand, where she made
her home since 1979.
She is
survived by two sons, John Frechette Jr. and Robert Frechette,
both of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Joan-Anne Adams of Burlington,
Vt.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her
husband, John E. Frechette Sr., died in March of 1997.
A
memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Church in DeLand,
Fla. at a later date.

Sharon L. (Gallant)
Bennett
Norway,
Maine — Sharon L. (Gallant) Bennett, 65, a summer resident of
Newry, Maine, died Wednesday morning at Stephens Memorial Hospital
in Norway.
Mrs.
Bennett was born in Johnson, Vt., on June 17, 1935, the daughter
of Durward and Ruby (Bennett) Gallant.
She
attended Johnson schools, but graduated from Plattsburgh High
School. A professional archeologist specializing in the Myan
cultures of Central America and Mexico, Mrs. Bennett received an
associates of arts degree in recreational science, her B.S. degree
in behavioral sciences and her masters from Plattsburgh State.
During
her professional career, she was associated with several
universities, the National Geographic Society and was most
recently collaborating with a professor from England on Myan
questions, along with Toronto University.
On Dec.
19, 1953, she married Elden Bennett, of Newry, Maine, and they
established their home in Plattsburgh, which they maintained from
the 1950's to the 1980's, at which time they traveled extensively
with their fifth-wheeler. They had just recently returned from
Alaska to their summer home in Newry, Maine.
Winters
found her in Texas, where she enjoyed bird-watching, and sharing
her interest with others. Mrs. Bennett participated in every
"bird count" that she could. She also developed an
interest in genealogy, tracing both her husband’s and her own
family trees, following the Bennett's back to the royalty of
England. She served on several committees for the town of Newry,
and had just completed mapping all the cemetery interments in that
town.
Besides
her husband of 47 years, she is survived by a daughter, Kitty
Letts, of Plattsburgh; a son, Gordon W. Bennett of Albany; three
grandchildren, Jason, Amanda and John Letts, all of Plattsburgh;
as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside
funeral services will be held at the Head of Tide Cemetery in
Newry on Saturday, Sept. 16th, at 2 p.m.

Head — Jerolyn Eleanor Murray Durant, 73, died Tuesday, Sept.
12, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was
born in Rouses Point on Feb. 20, 1927, the daughter of Frederick
and Flora (Longto) Murray.
She
attended Plattsburgh State University and studied home economics.
She was an avid bridge player and was the president of the
American Contract Bridge League, Unit 156 of Plattsburgh. She was
a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church.
She is
survived by a son, Thomas L. Durant of Plattsburgh; a daughter,
Ellen Durant of Plattsburgh; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia
and John Gregware of Plattsburgh; a grandson, Jacob; and several
nieces and nephews.
Her
husband, Thomas Durant, died in February of 1998.
Calling
hours will be held on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the
O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday from St.
Mary’s of the Lake Church on Cumberland Head. Burial will follow

Lake — Richard G. Ashline, 92, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at
his home in Chazy Lake.
He was
born in Chazy Lake on Jan. 27, 1908, the son of George and Carrie
(Ero) Ashline.
Richard
was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. He was a
lifelong farmer and also built several homes in the area.
Survivors
include his wife, Edith (Reyor) Ashline of Chazy Lake; two sons
and a daughter-in-law, Bernard Ashline of Chazy Lake and Richard
and Irene Ashline of Queensbury; a brother and sister-in-law,
Laverne and Belle Ashline of Greenfield Center; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, June and Vern Gibbs of Plattsburgh and Marjorie
Poupore of Glens Falls; a sister-in-law, Hortense Ashline of
Northville, N.Y.; a grandson, Brian Ashline; three
great-grandchildren, Brian Ashline Jr., Katlyn Ashline and Hannah
Marie Ashline; and several nieces and nephews.
His
brother Maynard and a sister, Mildred Howarth, died before him.

He was

Henry
served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1960. He was last
employed at the Mooers Town Highway Department.

Elaine H. Bourgeois
PERU —
Elaine H. Bourgeois, 72, of McIntosh Street, died Saturday, Sept.
9, 2000 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was
born in Alburg, Vt., March 12, 1928, the daughter of the late
Carol and Ellen (Surprise) Searles.
Elaine
graduated from Alburg High School in 1947. She married LeoPaul C.
Bourgeois, Aug. 25, 1951 in Alburg.
She was a
communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru, and summer member
of St. Anne’s Shrine in Isle LaMotte, and a member of the Peru
Senior Citizens Center. She volunteered in all aspects of Peru,
and Alburg. She enjoyed indoor flowers and cooking.
Survivors
include her husband, LeoPaul, of Peru; one daughter and
son-in-law, Karen and Gary Wheelock of Colchester, Vt.; three sons
and daughters-in-law, Thomas A. and Jane Bourgeois of Rutland,
Vt., Timothy Paul and Kay Bourgeois of Winooski, Vt., and
Christopher and Vanessa Bourgeois of Bloomingdale; one sister and
brother-in-law, Glennis and Carl Mumley of Vermont; six

Elsie MacDougall Porter
KEESEVILLE
— Mrs. Elsie MacDougall Porter, 80, of the Mace Chasm Road, died
Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the Meadowbrook Health Care
Facility.
She was
born in Plattsburgh on October 15, 1919 the daughter of the late
Allan and Marie (Coyle) MacDougall.
Elsie was
a graduate of Plattsburgh High School. She was employed by M.P.
Myers in Plattsburgh. Elsie was an avid gardener and was a
communicant of St. Johns Church in Keeseville.
She was
predeceased by her husband Harold Porter April 11, 1997 and her
son David Porter August 20, 2000.
She is
survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law Nancy and Robert
Armstrong of Peru and Linda and William Ptaszynski of Keeseville;
two sisters, Barbara Brent of Melbourne, Australia and Hope Luke
of Windsor Locks, Conn.; a brother, Donald MacDougall of Fla.; a
daughter-in-law, Barbara Porter of Peru; four grandchildren, Robin
Russom, Christina Armstrong, Robert Armstrong, Jr., and Hillary
Emrick; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There
will be no services.
Friends
wishing may make donations to the Keeseville Volunteer Rescue
Squad.

— Reno Ouellette, 84, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was
born in Frenchville, Maine on August 17, 1916, the son of Onesime
and Sophie (Berube) Ouellette.
He owned
and operated the Lake Edge Motel for over 30 years.
He is
survived by a son, Robert Ouellette of Plattsburgh; 4 sisters,
Winnie Plourde, Omerine Corbin, Connie Rojotte and Armand Norrie,
all of Bristol, Conn.; a brother, Leo Ouellette of Bristol; a
grandson, Robert Ouellette Jr. of Plattsburgh; and a grand
daughter, Patricia Ouellette of Plattsburgh.
His wife,
Theresa (Dumond) Ouellette died in 1999.
Calling
hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday from St. Joseph’s Church in
Treadwells Mills. Burial will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial
Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.

CHOCOWINITY,
N.C. — Mrs. Violet Yonelunas Bainbridge, 84, of 101 Trent Lane,
Cypress Landing, Chocowinity, died in the Beaufort County Hospital
Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000.
A Mass of
Celebration of Life will be held in the Mother of Mercy Catholic
Church in Washington, N.C. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000 at 11 a.m.
conducted by Father Donald Baribeau. Interment will be in Mountain
View Cemetery in Falls, Pa. on October 16, 2000 at 11 a.m.
Mrs.
Bainbridge was born in Luzerne County, Pa. on April 13, 1916, the
daughter of the late Constance and Rose Kizis Yonelunas. She was
married to Donald George Bainbridge on Feb. 14, 1939, who died May
24, 1987.
She spent
her early life in Pittston, Pa. She raised her family in Warwick,
N.Y. and resided there for 47 years. She has spent the last eight
years in Herndon, Va. before moving to Chocowinity.
She was a
member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church and her interests were
her family, traveling and her love of bridge.
She is
survived by a daughter, Mary Jane Cook of Chocowinity; two sons,
Donald M. Bainbridge of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Robert J. Bainbridge
of Leesburg, Fla.; a sister, Joan Bahl of West Wyoming, Pa.; six
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu
of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the
Beaufort County Hospital Oncology Clinic, 628 E. 12th St.,
Washington, N.C. 27889.
The
family is receiving friends at the home of Dennis and Mary Jane
Cooke, 101 Trent Lane, Cypress Landing, Chocowinity.

Elizabeth M. Cooke
Ticonderoga
— Elizabeth M. Cooke, 76, of John Street, passed away Friday,
Sept. 8, 2000, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
She was
born in Crown Point on Nov. 8, 1923, the daughter of the late
Charles and Mable (Murdock) Heismeyer.
Mrs.
Cooke was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was
a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga.
Before her retirement, she was employed by the International Paper
Company, the Moses-Ludington Hospital and the First United
Methodist Church, all of Ticonderoga.
Her
husband, James J. Cooke, passed away on Aug. 24, 2000.
She is
survived by one son, David C. Williams and his wife Rosemary of
Perkasie, Pa.; one grandson, Timothy D. Williams of Perkasie, Pa.;
and a stepdaughter, Kathy Ann Curtis of Ticonderoga.
Relatives
and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 33 Algonkin Street, Ticonderoga.
A funeral service will take place Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the
First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Paul L.
Dufford Jr., pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at the
family plot of the Valley View Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

— Carleston A. Clark, 83, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was
born in Altona on Nov. 11, 1916, the son of Wilmer and Della
(King) Clark.
He was
employed for the City of Plattsburgh for many years and retired as
City Housing Inspector.
He is
survived by his wife, the former Edna Nephew of Plattsburgh; a
son, Cassidy Clark and his companion Mary Beth Duquette of
Plattsburgh; a brother-in-law, Leighton and Lorraine Nephew of
Plattsburgh; five sisters-in-law, Bridget and Walter Coolidge of
Altona, Sylvia Clark of Massena, Thelma Nephew of Plattsburgh,
Gloria Nephew of Altona and Rita Nephew of Mineville; and several
nieces and nephews.
A
brother, Robert Clark, died earlier.
