Donald J. Burl
Peru —
Donald J. Burl, 62, of the Mannix Road in Peru, passed away
Friday, July 28, 2000, at his home.
He was
born on May 8, 1938, in Plattsburgh, son of Gilbert J. and Gladys
E. (Premo) Burl.
Donald
was an automobile technician, working for Garrand's Auto Sales. He
was involved in building race cars and was an avid race car fan.
Donald enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Army.
Donald is
survived by his wife of 34 years, the former Beverly A. Gilman of
Peru; one daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Toby Ebersole of
Peru; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Ernest and Eunice Burl
of West Chazy, Uyless Burl of Plattsburgh, Norman Burl of
Plattsburgh and Robert and Patricia Shea of Peru; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Maude and Robert Daniels of Chazy and Shirley and
George Sipos of Queensbury; one grandson, Todd Ebersole; a special
niece, Jolene Gilman of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and
nephews.
Donald
was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur Burl and Robert Burl; and
one sister, Pearl Kowalski.
A
memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at noon
from St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville, with Rev. William
Reamer, CVPH Catholic chaplain, officiating.
Burial
will follow in West Chazy Rural Cemetery in West Chazy. Donations
may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Country.

Philip Glenn Dickson
Albany
— Philip Glenn Dickson, 63, of Vaughn Drive in Albany, laid to
rest on Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Albany Memorial Hospital in
Albany.
He was
born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 16, 1936, son of the late Philip and
Hazel (Ducatte) Dickson.
Philip
was a carpenter and the owner of 3D Specialties.
Philip is
survived by his wife, the former Marjorie Ashline of Albany; three
sons and two daughters-in-law, Philip and Amy Dickson of Albany,
Kevin Dickson of Hartford, Conn., and Timothy and Sheri Dickson of
Boyertown, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Richard
Osmer of Nashua, N.H.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Phyllis
and Charles Barich of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Louana Parent of West
Palm Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Philip
was predeceased by a sister, Mary.
Calling
hours will be Sunday evening, July 30, 2000, from 5 to 8 p.m. at
the Brown Funeral Inc., 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10 a.m. from
Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in
St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Olive May Banker
Peru —
Olive May Banker, 87, of the Peasleeville Road in Peru, died
Friday, July 28, 2000, at her home.
She was
born in Penacook, N.H., the daughter of Walter and Della (Jemery)
Dowd.
She was a
housewife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Peru. She
enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time at home.
Survivors
include two sons and daughters-in-law, Guy and Peggy Ann Banker of
Schuyler Falls and Lawrence Jr. and Marlane Banker of Peru; one
daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Leo Drollette of Plattsburgh;
11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Pearl
(Betsy) Luce of Peru.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Banker Sr.; two daughters,
Sally Chevalier and Mary Ann Banker; and her sister, Mabel Gregg.
Calling
hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in
Peru. Burial will follow in the Peasleeville Cemetery.

Augustine's Church building fund or the Peru Community Church
restorations fund.
Joan A. Provost
PLATTSBURGH
— Joan A. Provost, 68, of 8 Heritage Drive in Plattsburgh,
passed away Thursday, July 27, 2000, peacefully surrounded by
family and friends, with Hospice at her side, after fighting a
long battle with breast cancer.
She was
born July 13, 1932, in Redford, the daughter of Henry (Hank)
Farrell and Lena (Soucy) Farrell, both deceased.
She is
survived by her husband of 48 years, Alfred (Al) Provost; two sons
and a daughter-in-law, Gary and Crystal of the General Leroy Manor
Road, Rand Hill and Brian Provost and his companion Nancy Aversa.
Also
survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pam and Dale Baker of
the Smart Road, Plattsburgh and Sherry Provost of Plattsburgh.
Also Joan's four sisters and four brothers-in-law, Gen and Warren
Wood of Riverview, Betty and Eddie Daugherty of Plattsburgh, Jean
and Eddie Sullivan of Cadyville and Joyce and John Swyner of
Vermontville; nine grandchildren, Cory and Cortney Provost, Beth
and Kelly Provost, Camellia Provost, Joelynn Stickney, Jeremy
Barber Provost of New Jersey, Jessica Gilman and Jason Stewart;
six great-grandchildren, Makayla, David and Joanna Stickney, named
after her great-grandmother, Cray and Christian Gilman and Joshua
Gonzales Jr., all of Plattsburgh; plus several nephews and nieces.
JOAN WAS
A VERY SPECIAL WIFE, MOM, SISTER AND GRANDMOTHER. She was always
there for everyone, even in all her painful, helpless illness. She
loved life and loved being with her family. She will be so deeply
missed. She was and is our "angel in heaven." She was a
homemaker after working for so many years.
Calling
hours will be Saturday, July 29th, 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, July
30th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neil-Redden-Drown Funeral
Home on 94 Court Street. Funeral services will be at Our Lady of

Paul L. Smith Sr.
DOVER
PLAINS — Paul L. Smith Sr., 63, a longtime resident of Dover
Plains, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Sharon Hospital in Sharon,
Conn.
Mr. Smith
worked as a therapy aide for Wassaic Developmental Center. He
retired in 1981 with 17 years of service.
He was
born on March 15, 1937, in AuSable Forks, the son of the late
Delbert and Freda Smith.
He
married Barbara Terry Smith in AuSable Forks on Aug. 15, 1959.
Mrs. Smith survives at home.
In
addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Mark and
Gordon Smith, both of Amenia and Paul L. Smith Jr. of Copake; two
daughters, Phyllis (Fuzzy) Trinka of Amenia and Nancy (Henry)
Myers of Copake; one sister, Audrey Carnes of AuSable Forks; and
nine grandchildren.
He was
predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Neil Smith.
There
will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the
convenience of the family.

Harvey R. Lamere Jr.
Keeseville
— Harvey R. Lamere Jr., 58, of River St. in Keeseville, died
unexpectedly Wednesday morning, July 26, 2000, while at work.
Harvey,
better known as "Butch" to his family and friends, was
born in Lake Placid on May 24, 1942, the son of Harvey Sr. and
Phyllis (St. John) Lamere.
Butch was
an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both fishing and hunting. He also
enjoyed playing horseshoes, ping-pong and especially billiards. He
was known throughout the region as one of the best pool players to
ever come out of the North Country. Butch especially enjoyed
spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. His
reputation as a painter was without question something he took
great pride in.
Butch is
survived by his mother, Phyllis Lamere of Keeseville; his wife of
35 years, the former Bonnie Buckley; three sons and one
daughter-in-law, Danny and Bobbi Jo Lamere of Morrisonville, David
Lamere of Keeseville and Michael Lamere of Keeseville; one
daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Keenan of Plattsburgh; six
grandchildren, Dana, Danny Jr., and Dustin Lamere, all of
Keeseville, Matthew Lamere of Schuyler Falls and Kara and Kourtney
Keenan of Plattsburgh; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and
Roney Besaw, Dawna and Sonny (Arthur) Sheffield, Mary and Bruce
Crowningshield and Shirley and William Thomas, all of Keeseville;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was
predeceased by his father, Harvey Sr. in 1998; and one daughter,
Karen in 1990.
Calling
hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate
Conception Church in Keeseville, with Rev. Garvin Demarais,

— Dorothy G. Reyell, 72, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was
born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 21, 1927, the daughter of Fred and
Hattie (St. Germaine) Rivers.
She and
her husband, Donald, owned and operated D & H Auto Sales for
many years. She and her husband also cared for many foster
children over several years. She was a member of St. Alexander’s
Church in Morrisonville.
She is
survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Bodette of
Morrisonville and Renee and Wayne LaPierre of Morrisonville; a
foster son, Richard and Joyce Recor of Berne; three sisters and
two brothers-in-law, Isabell and Donald Bryan of Melrose, Edith
and Wilbur Stanton of Rand Hill and Bessie Reyell of Rand Hill;
her mother-in-law, Rose Reyell of Morrisonville; her
grandchildren, Brian and Rhea Reyell, Laurie Harvey, Eric Harvey
and Charlene Branham and Michael DuBrey; a foster grandson, David
Recor; her great-grandchildren, Anthony Harvey, Keshia LaPoint and
Cierra Harvey; a stepgreat-grandson, Caleb Branham; and several
nieces and nephews.
Her
husband, Donald J. Reyell, died on Feb. 17, 2000.

Melvin G. Montpelier
Champlain
— Melvin G. Montpelier, 78, of Champlain, a retired U.S. Customs
Inspector and World War II veteran, died July 25, 2000, at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Mr.
Montpelier was born June 23, 1922, in Ogdensburg, the son of
Theodore J. Montpelier and Bertha (Gooley) Montpelier.
He grew
up in Ogdensburg, where he graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in
1940. After high school, he served in the Civilian Conservation
Corps. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the armed
merchant vessel, George E. Meade, in 1943, seeing action in the
Mediterranean.
Following
service in World War II and employment with the U.S. Post Office
in his native Ogdensburg, he began a 33-year career with the U.S.
Customs Service as a Customs Inspector at the Port of Rouses
Point/Champlain, retiring in 1978.
Mr.
Montpelier and his wife, Laurelle, owned and operated Montpelier’s
Cabins for many years in Rouses Point. He was a licensed pilot,
enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and became an
avid gardener in retirement. He was a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, a charter member of the Rouses Point Sportsman's
Club and past member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus.
He is
survived by his wife of 56 years, Laurelle (Badger) Montpelier of
Champlain; four sons, Melvin G. Montpelier Jr. of South Portland,
Maine, Gary Montpelier of West Chazy, Jay Montpelier of
Plattsburgh and Dale Montpelier of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter,
Cynthia Montgomery of Murphy, N.C.; two sisters, Theresa
Montpelier of Ogdensburg and Shirley O’Donoghue of Hoffman
Estates, Ill.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
At his
request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be
celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 28, 2000, in St. Patrick’s
Church in Rouses Point. Full military honors will be provided
following the Mass. Entombment will be at the Whispering Maples
Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg.

Forks — Shawn Michael Bushey, 35, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000,
at the Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was
born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 1, 1965, the son of Armand 0. and Rita
(Bosley) Bushey.
He was
employed by Green Island Construction Co. in Glenmont for several
years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed
softball and volleyball.
He is
survived by his mother, Rita Lashway of Mooers; a son, Scott St.
John of Morrisonville; two daughters, Brittany St. John of
Morrisonville and Nicole Bushey of Chazy; a brother, Dwight Bushey
of South Windsor, Conn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda
and Gary DeCoste of Mooers and Robin and Gary Burdeau of Mooers
Forks; a niece, Julie Burdeau; three nephews, Casey Burdeau, Benji
DeCoste and Brian DeCoste; a great-niece, Kayla DeCoste; and a
great-nephew, Curtis Bosley.

Dianne E. Barrows

Point — Dianne E. Barrows, 52, of Sanders Road in Crown Point,
died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at her home.
Dianne
was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 28, 1947, the daughter of Harold
Provost and Helen (Ashline) Provost.
She was a
member of the town council of Crown Point and owner of Hap's
Market, along with her husband.
She is
survived by her husband, Truman Barrows; one son and
daughter-in-law, Clinton and Caitlin Barrows of Crown Point; one
daughter, Christina Barrows of Albuquerque, N.M.; her mother,
Helen Provost of Plattsburgh; and a sister and brother-in-law,
Pamela and Jeff Lawler of Matamoras, Pa.
Private

Henry at the convenience of the family, with a graveside service
at Forestdale Cemetery in Crown Point.
Arthur Thomas Mace

— Arthur Thomas Mace, 40, of Route 3 in Plattsburgh, formerly of
AuSable Forks, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, due to a
car/pedestrian accident in the Town of Plattsburgh.
He was
born Nov. 24, 1959, in Plattsburgh, the son of Leigh and Leona
(Baker) Mace.
Art was a
chef for 20 years and was employed at the Butcher Block in
Plattsburgh and at the Butcher Block in Raleigh, N.C. He recently
was employed as head chef at Mangia Pizza & Pasta Restaurant
in Plattsburgh. He also enjoyed golfing.
He is
survived by his wife, Theresa Sarantopoulos Mace, who he married
on May 17, 1990, in Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Nichole Mace and
Danielle Mace, both of Cadyville; three brothers, Gary Mace of
Amenia, John Mace of Orford, N.H. and Rodney Mace of Mineville; a
sister, Carol Troccoli of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; an uncle, Carl
Maicus of AuSable Forks; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His
parents died before him.
Visitation
hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. A funeral Mass
will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Catholic
Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will follow in the family plot at
Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Dean Allen Pelkey
Charlotte,
N.C. — Dean Allen Pelkey of Charlotte, N.C. died Friday, July
21, 2000.
Dean was
born in Plattsburgh, the son of Laura Ashline Pelkey of Rouses
Point and the late Gerald Pelkey.
He
graduated from Northeastern Clinton High School in Champlain and
Potsdam State.
He was
employed by First Union Bank as a new products analyst. He was a
member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and was an
avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Survivors,
in addition to his mother, are his wife, Kelly; three sisters and
brothers-in-law, Donna and Jacque Giroux of Chazy, Barbara and
Gordon Hurlburt of Mooers and Linda and Michael Bahry of
Dillsburg, Pa.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marty and Laurie
Pelkey of Syracuse and Gerald K. and Bonnie Pelkey of Redford; and
his paternal grandmother, Bessie Castine of Champlain; and also
his beloved dog, Shelby.
Funeral
services were held Monday, July 24, at Harry and Bryant Chapel in
the Oaks, with Talbot Davis officiating. Burial will be held at
the convenience of the family.

Anne M. Murphy
Plattsburgh
— Anne M. Murphy, 83, of Plattsburgh, died Monday, July 24,
2000, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was
born in Hatfield, Mass., on April 17, 1917, the daughter of
Stanley and Kamilia (Trojanowski) Ligus.
She
married Michael Murphy, Feb. 21, 1937, in Riverhead. He died Sept.
11, 1978.
Anne was
a supervisor with Hazeltine Electronics Company in Riverhead for
35 years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing.
Survivors
include one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Fenton Thompson
of Peru; two grandchildren, Debbie and Fenton Thompson; two
great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Ashley Thompson; and two sisters,
Stella Niedzwiedz and Agnes Niedzwiedz, both of Millers Falls,
Mass.
She was
also predeceased by one sister, Mary Kruzlic of Montague, Mass. on
March 22, 2000; and one brother, Frank Ligus in 1964.
The
calling hours and funeral service will be private and at the
convenience of the family. Burial will be in the St. John the
Evangelist Roman Catholic Cemetery in Riverhead.

Gerald
"Gerry" Rushford
Canandaigua
— Gerald "Gerry" Rushford, 78, died Monday, July 24,
2000, at the F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. He had been in
poor health for the past year.
He was
born April 19, 1922, in Churubusco, the son of Edger and Stella
(Gagnier) Rushford.
Mr.
Rushford was married to the former F. Elaine (Spearman) Rushford,
who passed away in 1984.
Mr.
Rushford operated a public accounting business for many years in
the North Country area. He was active in many civic and fraternal
organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, Rotary
and various community fund-raising efforts.
Survivors
include three sons, James of Naples, Brian of Bloomfield and John
of Keeseville; one sister, Theresa Lagree of Churubusco; two
brothers, Herald of Calverton and Donald of Plattsburgh; 12
grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral
Mass will be held for Mr. Rushford at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic
Church in Canandaigua on Thursday, July 28, at 11 a.m. and a
memorial service will also be held at Whispering Maples Mausoleum
on the Tom Miller Road in Plattsburgh on Friday, July 29, at 1
p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.

Grace A. Shea
Lake
Placid — Grace A. Shea, 83, died at the Fletcher Allen Hospital
in Burlington, Vt., on Monday, July 24, 2000, as a result of a
massive stroke.
Grace was
born on Jan. 4, 1917, the daughter of the Honorable James Shea and
Grace A. Obrey Shea.
Grace
graduated from Lake Placid High School and the Pratt Institute of
Decorating in New York City. She worked as a decorator and buyer
at B. Altman & Co. in New York City. She returned to Lake
Placid as a partner in the Shea's Market Inc., until its closing
in 1974. She was the owner of the Mirror Lake Liquor Store until
1988. She continued to practice her decorating until 1999, when
failing health required her retirement.
Grace
served on the advisory board for Uihlein Mercy Center and the Lake
Placid Hospital for many years. She was also a member of St. Agnes
Church.
She is
survived by three brothers, the Honorable Edmund Shea of
Ogdensburg, Eugene Shea of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Jack Shea of
Lake Placid; three nephews, James E. Shea Sr. and Michael Shea of
Lake Placid and Jack Shea Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; and several
great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews
locally and throughout the country.
There are
no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24,
2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church.

Larry John Marcotte
Little
River, S.C. — Larry John Marcotte, 48, of Pine Road and formerly
of Plattsburgh, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, at Grand Strand
Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as a result of
injuries from a motorcycle accident.
He was
born in Ticonderoga on May 17, 1952, the son of John Herbert and
Leta (Hathaway) Marcotte.
Larry is
a Vietnam veteran, a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post
125 of Plattsburgh and the American Legion 1619 of West
Plattsburgh.
He is a
past president of AA in Plattsburgh and a counselor for Conifer
Park Rehab Center.
He is
survived by his mother, Leta Hathaway Marcotte of Plattsburgh; one
brother, Alan Marcotte of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Betty

July 27, 2000, at 10:00 a.m. in St. James Cemetery in Cadyville
where Msgr. Deno will recite committal prayers. Full military
honors will be provided by a contingent from Fort Drum.
Mary J. Gowette
Morrisonville
— Mary J. Gowette, 79, of the Banker Road, passed away Monday,
July 24, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a
long illness.
She was
born in Chateaugay on Sept. 29, 1920, the daughter of Joseph and
Jinney (Fisher) Barnaby.
Mary was
a member of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. She had been
employed at Supreme Footwear in Mooers and later was the manager
of Petco Gas Station in Plattsburgh.
Mary is
survived by her husband of 41 years, Clifford J. Gowette of
Morrisonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Albertine
"Tina" and Frederick Fowler of Morrisonville; four
sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris LaValley of Vernon, Vt.,
Loretta Kennedy of Champlain, Bertha and James Mack of Wickinburg,
Ariz., and Beatrice and Clarence Brock of Ocala, Fla.; and several
nieces and nephews.
Mary was
predeceased by two sisters, Eva and Stella and six brothers,
Harry, George, Ernest, Henry, Leonard and Ross.
Calling
hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from the Brown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at St. Alexander's Church
in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in
Plattsburgh.
Michael Jon Raynor Sr.
Columbia,
S.C. — Michael Jon Raynor Sr., 54, formerly of Plattsburgh, died
July 7, 2000, in Columbia, S.C.
He was
born in Malone on July 27, 1945, the son of Pauline (Mitchell)
Raynor and the late Cyrus J. Raynor.
Michael
graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1963 and received an AAS
from Delhi College. He did a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, where
he was a Vietnam veteran. When he got back, he attended
Plattsburgh State, where he graduated. At the time of his death,
he was the operations supervisor for Williams Communications in
Columbia, S.C.
He is
survived by his wife, Carol Brooks Raynor; two sons, Michael Jon
Raynor Jr. of Prosperity, S.C., and Bryan Raynor of Lynchburg,
Va.; two daughters, Kimberly DiNardo and Jennifer Raynor, both of
Lynchburg, Va.; two brothers, James Raynor of Aurora, Colo., and
Jerry Raynor of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Pauline
Williams of Omaha, Neb., Patricia O'Leary of Clovis, N.M., and
Bettie Smith of Plattsburgh; two grandsons and one granddaughter;
and several nieces and nephews.
A
memorial service was held July 11th at the Lexington Chapel in
South Carolina and burial followed at Two Churches Lane in Forest,
Va., on July 13, 2000.
Grace E. Genier
Moriah
— Grace E. Genier, 72, of North Road, Moriah, died Sunday, July
23, 2000, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.
Grace was
born at Port Henry on Nov. 6, 1927, the daughter of Wallace Foot
MacDonough and Matilda (Brooks) MacDonough.
She was a
member of the First Methodist Church in Moriah.
She is
survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Kevin Sprague
of Moriah; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Leslie Genier
of Moriah; and four grandchildren, Jason Sprague, Andrea Sprague,
Kimberly Sprague and Nicholas Plante.
There
will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted on
Saturday, July 29, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the First Methodist Church,
Tarbell Hill, Moriah, with the Rev. Alice Hobbs officiating.
Burial will be in the Moriah Union Cemetery.
Memorial
donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.
Lawrence
Rock, 73,
formerly of Cadyville, died Monday, July 24, 2000, at the CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was
born in Bridgeport, Vt., on Sept. 18, 1926, the son of Joseph and
Anna (Jabot) Rock.
There
will be no calling hours. A committal service will be held on
Friday at 9 a.m. from Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum
in Plattsburgh. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh is in charge of arrangements.

Woodrow K. Griffith
ROTTERDAM
— Woodrow K. "Woody" Griffith, 83, of Kingsway Manor,
passed away peacefully at his home on July 22, 2000. Born December
4, 1916, in Grand Isle, Vt., he was a son of the late George E.
and Blanche Demers Griffith. Mr. Griffith married the former
Elizabeth Wales, who passed away in 1988.
Educated
in Chazy, N.Y., he graduated from Chazy Central School. He came to
Rotterdam in 1946 and was employed by General Electric for 37
years as a management employee and material procurement
specialist. He retired in December 1978.
Mr.
Griffith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, European
Theater, and participated in the Normandy invasion. He was a
member of the VFW Post 1895, Rotterdam.
In his
lifetime, Mr. Griffith was chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals
of Rotterdam and a member of the town board since 1964; member and
treasurer of the Democratic Party of Rotterdam; member of the
Board of Directors of the Democratic Club; and member of the
Schenectady County Democratic Committee. He was also a member and
purchasing agent for the Carmen Little League and a former team
member and treasurer of the Rotterdam Babe Ruth League. An avid
bowler, he was a former member and president of the Lutheran
Bowling League and former member and president of the Motor
Generation Bowling League. He was also a member of the following:
Menagerie Bowling League, GE Retired Men’s Bowling League,
Schenectady Pensioners Bowling League, and Rolling Greens Bowling
League.
Mr.
Griffith is survived by two sons, Gerald R. Griffith of Norwich,
N.Y., and Richard K. Griffith of Rotterdam, N.Y. He is also
survived by one grandson, Christopher Griffith, and one
granddaughter, Kristine Metz. He was predeceased by his twin
brother Wilson Griffith of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and one sister,
Florence VanDuesen of Nassau, N.Y.
Friends
and family are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home
Inc., 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, N.Y., on Wednesday, July
26, 2000, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Immediately following, funeral

Marion Napper McAllister
Plattsburgh
— Marion Napper McAllister, 86, formerly of Burnt Hill in
Saranac and Leonard Ave. in Plattsburgh, died Friday, July 21,
2000, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility.
She was
born in Cadyville on Oct. 31, 1913, the daughter of Charles and
Louise (Gonyea) Bassett.
Marion
was a graduate of Cadyville High School Class of 1933 and the
Plattsburgh Normal School Class of 1936. She retired from teaching
at Saranac Central School in 1972.
She was
married to Robert Napper from 1949, until his death in 1969. She
was married to Wilmer McAllister from 1975, until his death in
1996.
Marion
was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association,
Ladies of the Elks Plattsburgh Lodge 621, St. John’s Church and
the Rosary and Altar Society of St. John’s.
Marion is
survived by a daughter, Carole O’Brien of Plattsburgh; a
stepdaughter and her husband, Sylvia and Richard Morelli of
Mechanicsburg, Pa.; two granddaughters, Shannon Holley and her
husband Jason of Ft. Riley, Kan. and Amanda Myers of Great Falls,
Mont.; two stepgrandchildren, Sarah Morelli of Richmond, Cal. and
David Morelli of Boulder, Colo.; three great-grandchildren,
Duncan, Maeve and Jenna Holley of Ft. Riley, Kan.; two sisters,
Dorothy Jessey of Plattsburgh and Reta LaBarge of Herkimer; and
many nieces and nephews.
Marion
was also predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Jesse Bassett,
Julia Ryan and Frances Squires; and her brothers, Elmer, Leon,
Lloyd and Charles Bassett.
Calling
hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Members of the Rosary and Altar
Society are asked to meet Tuesday at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s
Church. Interment will be in the Saranac Independence Cemetery.
Ardelle C. Ubriaco
Jay —
Ardelle C. Ubriaco, 96, of Keene Valley Neighborhood House in
Keene Valley and formerly of Jay, died Friday, July 21, 2000, at
CVPH.
She was
born in Jay on Sept. 26, 1903, the daughter of John Smith, MD and
Corinth Bissell.
She was a
former officer in the Daughters of the American Revolution and a
pianist for many years at the Jay Baptist Church.
Ardelle
graduated from AuSable Forks High School in 1922. She accompanied
her brother, Donald, to the Malone School for the Deaf, where she
taught music.
On July
10, 1927, she married Joseph Ubriaco in Gouverneur. They lived in
New York City until 1946. Subsequently, they lived in Yonkers
until 1964, at which time Ardelle retired to her hometown of Jay.
Ardelle
was an accomplished pianist, with a lifetime love of music. She
was a lifelong dog lover and could often be seen walking with them
around the village of Jay. Up until two weeks before her death,
she walked two miles daily.
Ardelle
was an avid gardener, reader, writer and musician; a true
Renaissance woman.
She
maintained a 70-year weekly correspondence with her sister, Helen
Miller, until two weeks before she died.
Ardelle
will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a woman of
tremendous love and courage. She will be deeply missed by all who
knew her.
She is
survived by her daughter, Antoinette Jean and John Cordes of
AuSable Forks; her sons, Robert D. and Shirley Ubriaco of Monee,
Ill. and J. Peter and Mary Jo Ubriaco of Ossining; her sister,
Helen Miller of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Adeline Smith of
Ticonderoga; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Joseph Ubriaco; and her brothers,
Donald and Philip Smith.
There
will be no calling hours. Ardelle donated her body to the
University of Vermont Medical School for medical research. A
memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Jay
on Monday, July 24, at 11 a.m.
In lieu
of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer
Society, the SPCA or the AuSable Forks Ambulance Service.
The

Loren W. Hams
Willsboro
— Loren W. Hams, 76, of Station Road in Willsboro, died at his
home Saturday, July 22, 2000, after a long illness.
He was
born in Westport on Nov. 24, 1923, the son of George and Katherine
(Graves) Hams.
Mr. Hams
was a member of the Willsboro United Methodist Church and the
Willsboro American Legion Post 405, for over 55 years. He was also
a member and Past Master of Iroquois Lodge 715 F&AM in Essex
and a former member of the Willsboro Fish and Game Club.
He is
survived by his wife, Joyce (Brown) Hams; one daughter, Lorna Marx
of Beekmantown; two grandsons, Bret W. Marx of New Mexico and Cale
T. Marx of North Carolina; and two sisters-in-law, Sadie Hams and
Rona Hams, both of Willsboro.
He was
predeceased by three brothers, Roy, Ray and Guy.
Calling
hours will be held at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro on
Sunday, July 23, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. A masonic service will be
held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral
home Monday, July 24, 2000, at 11 a.m.
