William C. "Bill" Knuffke

Beekmantown — Mr. William C. "Bill" Knuffke, 84, of Route 22, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 19, 1915, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Perry) Knuffke.

Bill was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh. He worked for 40 years in the vending business retiring from A. S. Hardy in 1978. Bill had served on the Plattsburgh Bowling Association Board of Directors. He enjoyed fishing, especially deep sea fishing off the coast of Maine and was well known for his pool playing.

Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marion (Ososki) Knuffke of Beekmantown; his children, William, Eric and Pearl; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by three sisters, Verneta Knuffke, Amelia Bayne and Virginia Longe; and his brothers, Michael Knuffke, Edward Knuffke and Francis Knuffke.

Calling hours were held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A vigil service was held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Members of the American Legion Post 20 conducted services Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, with the Rev. Floyd "Jerry" Bleaux, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.

Frederick H. Fredenburg

Keeseville — Frederick H. Fredenburg, 72, of Hill St., died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Fort Ethan Allen, Vt., May 31, 1928, the son of Harvey C. and Florence E. (Duell) Fredenburg.

Fred served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949.

He married the former Mabel Perrotte on Feb. 3, 1951, in Peru.

He was a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072, a lifetime member of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505, a member of the Keeseville Knights of Columbus, past state officer and a 4th degree knight, having served as grand knight.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Roberta Fredenburg of Queensbury; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Gary Peffer of Malone; one sister and brother-in-law, Starr and George Carrie of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Ron Fredenburg, Lynne and Mike West, all of Queensbury, Jared Peffer of Plattsburgh and David Frederick Peffer of Malone; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Jim, Bill, and Skip; and one sister, Barbara Hollenbaugh.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Tuesday evening the following organizations will meet at the funeral home at the designated times, Keeseville Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m., Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072 at 7:30 p.m. and the Keeseville VFW Post 1505 at 8 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville, with Rev. Garvin Demarais, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors. A reception will be held following services at the Keeseville Knights of Columbus, Rt. 9S, Keeseville.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad or Hospice of the North Country.

James I. Galusha

Witherbee — James I. Galusha, 63, of Silver Hill Road, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Porter Medical Center of Middlebury, Vt.

Born in Hague, July 14, 1936, he was the son of James and Nellie (Carpenter) Galusha.

Mr. Galusha was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was employed by the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga for 42 years as head cutterman, until his retirement in June of 1998.

Mr. Galusha will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy J. (Platero) Galusha; two sons, Donald J. Galusha of Ticonderoga and Richard A. Galusha of Hague; one daughter, Diane F. Woods and her husband, Clifton of Crown Point; one stepson, Bryan Platero and his wife, Paulette of Witherbee; one stepdaughter, Tracy Platero of New York City; a good friend, Howard Davis of Hague; and ten grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 33 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Diana F. Scholl, chaplain of the Porter Medical Center of Middlebury, Vt., will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot of the May Memorial Cemetery of Hague.

John "Jack" Thomas

AuSable Forks — John "Jack" Thomas, 73, of the Silver Lake Rd., died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in AuSable Forks, Jan. 20, 1927, the son of William H. and Hazel M. (Cobb) Thomas.

Jack was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He was a life member of the Elks Club 2072 of Keeseville and the American Legion Post 504 of AuSable Forks and a member of the VFW Post 8958. He was also a member of the AuSable Forks Senior Citizens, the Fern Lake Campers Assoc. and the Highway Superintendent Assoc.

Jack was employed for several years at the Oval Wood Dish Co. in Tupper Lake and the J&J Rogers Co. in AuSable Forks. For a few years he was a self-employed logger. He was also employed for five years for Torrington Construction Co. He was caretaker for French’s Mustard Co. estate for 25 years. He also worked for two years with his father for the Town of Black Brook highway department. Then he was elected to the position of highway superintendent for the Town of Black Brook, holding that position for 18 years.

Jack enjoyed hunting and spending time at camp with Shirley and Zachary.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Shirley Sawyer Thomas of AuSable Forks, who he married June 21, 1955; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Leo Trombley of Black Brook; grandaughter, Carie A. Trombley and Kevin Seymour and great-grandson Zachary J. Seymour, all of AuSable Forks; goddaughter, Kelley Gehrke of Schuyler Falls; special nephews, Thomas Thomas Jr. and Jay F. Jaffee; two sisters, Charlotte Stanton of Elmira and Julia Thomas of AuSable Forks; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Church in Black Brook. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery.

Richard R. Ross, 78, of Russell Street in Crown Point, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.

He was born in Burlington, Vt., on Dec. 27, 1921, the son of Albert and Eva (Courcy) Ross.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point on Monday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. William Meunch officiating. Burial will follow in the White Church Cemetery in Crown Point.

Memorial donations may be made to the A. E. Philps Fire and Rescue, Crown Point, NY 12928.

James E. Adams, 76, of the Soper Rd. in Morrisonville, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Jim was the former Postmaster at the Morrisonville Post Office.

Ottis J. Matthews

Lake Worth, Fla. — Ottis J. "Bud" Matthews, 73, of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away at the V.A. Medical Center on June 30, 2000.

He was born in Sumner, Ill., on March 20, 1927.

He spent most of his life in the Army and Air Force. Retired from Plattsburgh Air Force Base after serving 23 years in the military, he moved to Lake Worth 20 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Matthews; five children, son Randy and wife Dawn Matthews of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., daughter Sherry Rivers of Wellington, Fla., son David and wife Kim Matthews of Lake Worth, Fla., son James and wife Cathy Matthews of Beekmantown and daughter Rebecca "Becky" Marvin of Wellington, Fla.. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial took place at Palm Beach Memorial Park on July 3, where he was given a military salute send off by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Also, an escort service was performed by the Lake Worth Police and Sheriff Department.

Norma H. Broadwell

Morrisonville — Norma H. Broadwell, formerly Norma H. Robbins, 85, passed away at home with her family on July 6, 2000.

She was born in Whallonsburgh on Jan. 7, 1915, the daughter of Claude Asher Robbins and Bessie Lilian Robbins of Crown Point.

She is survived by her son, Robert and his wife Donna of Morrisonville; five grandchildren, Stephen Broadwell and his wife Susan and Sara Broadwell, all of Morrisonville, Jeannine Broadwell and her husband Stefan Martin of San Ramon, Calif., Kyle Broadwell and his wife Kelly of Saratoga Springs and William Caster of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Timmy and Kelly Broadwell of Morrisonville. Other survivors include two sisters; Mrs. Armand (Ruth) Beauchamp of Cohoes and Mrs. Robert (Janice) Robbins of Crown Point; her sister-in-law, Ruth Bradley of Brentwood; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Keith S. Broadwell Sr.; her daughter, Diana Caster of St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, Keith S. Broadwell Jr. of Morrisonville; two sisters, Beatrice Smith of Cohoes and Pauline Coley of Ticonderoga; and three brothers, LeRoy and Gerald Robbins of Ticonderoga and Garry R. Robbins of Keene, N.H.

There will be no calling hours. There will be a private funeral service at the convenience of the family.

Florence Millie-Sheffield

Peru — Florence Millie-Sheffield, 79, of Apple Valley Dr., died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Bristol, R.I., Jan. 27, 1921, the daughter of Charles E. and Delvica M. (Masse) Forgette.

Her first husband, Anthony Millie, her second husband, Lawrence Sheffield and her oldest son, Anthony Millie, predeceased Florence.

She was employed by Millers Grocery in AuSable Forks for several years and was a member of the American Legion Post 504 Ladies Auxiliary. For years her passion was playing shuffleboard on the local league. She also enjoyed sewing, yard sales and was an avid reader.

Survivors include seven daughters and five son-in-laws, Theresa Lafountain of Connecticut, Ruth and Frank Williams of Plattsburgh, Nancy Millie of Chazy, Shirley and William Barber of Keeseville, Gloria and Daniel Doner of Schuyler Falls, Laura and Brian Willis of Rhode Island and Vicky and Paul Desotelle of Keeseville; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Sandra Millie of Schuylerville, Edward and Jane Millie of AuSable Forks, James and Debbie Millie of West Chazy and Paul Millie of Morrisonville; one brother, Paul Forgette of St. Leonard, Md.; one sister, Mrs. George Bartlette of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Patrick Joseph Poupore

Malone — Patrick Joseph Poupore, 37, of the Wheeler Road in Malone, died Monday evening, July 3, 2000, at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. He had been a patient there since Sunday, June 25, 2000.

Born in Malone on June 15, 1963, he was the son of Wallace "Baldy" and Claire Benoit Poupore.

He graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1982. On Aug. 22, 1987, he was united in marriage to the former Lisa Bigness at St. John Bosco Church in Malone. She survives.

Pat had worked on the family farm all of his life. Two years ago he and his mother and four brothers established PAPAS Dairy.

He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He enjoyed playing slo-pitch softball and basketball. He loved being with his family, camping and traveling. He especially enjoyed excavating and landscaping around the farm and his home.

Besides his wife, Lisa, he is survived by his mother; Claire Poupore of Malone; three daughters, Jessica, 12, Chelsea, 8 1/2, and Brianna, 3, all at home; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Alan and Lynn Poupore, Scott and Judy Poupore, Peter Poupore and Aaron and Lori Poupore, all of Malone; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jeanne and David Lessor of Plattsburgh, Paula Poupore of Malone and Mary and Jeffrey Kemp of Malone; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dennis and Linda Bigness of Malone; one brother-in-law, Dennis John Bigness of Malone; two sisters-in-law, Denise and her husband Tony LaPage of Westville and Stacy Bigness of Malone; 27 nieces and nephews; one great-nephew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Wallace "Baldy" Poupore; his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Martha Poupore; and his maternal grandparents, Rosario and Germaine Benoit.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at noon at St. Joseph’s Church, with Msgr. C. John McAvoy and Rev. Norman Poupore officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on the Lake Titus Road in Malone.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Center for Donation and Transplant or to the Malone Volunteer Fire and Rescue Deparunent.

Cynthia Fenton

Peru — Cynthia Fenton, 60, of 17 A Northwood Avenue in Peru, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Borough Bridge, England, on Nov. 13, 1939, the daughter of Frederick and Ruby Davis.

She married Robert J. Fenton on July 17, 1965, in Lawrence, Mass.

Mrs. Fenton owned and operated C.F. Consulting in Peru.

She enjoyed reading, boating, knitting and traveling to Ocean Park, Maine.

She was the junior national champion in figure skating in England.

Survivors include her husband, Robert J. Fenton of Peru; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and John Hymans of Boca Raton, Fla; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Teresa Fenton of Canton, Scott and Michelle Fenton and Keith and Krista Fenton, all of Saranac Lake; five grandchildren, Michael, Briana, and Alicia Fenton and Caitlin and Lillianna Hymans; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Doris Fenton of Methuen, Mass.; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Fenton of New Britton, Conn.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Frederick J. Charland

Saranac Lake — Frederick J. Charland, 75, of 2 State St. in Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born April 24, 1925, in Saranac Lake, he was a son of Loris (Nucky) and Pansy Mae (Brown) Charland.

Mr. Charland was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy. Following the war, he was employed by Brownlite-Chapin Corp. and Carrier Corp. in Syracuse. Then he was employed by the Harold Journal as a printer from 1955 until 1963, when he moved to Saranac Lake. He was employed as a printer with the Adirondack Daily Enterprise from 1963, until he retired in 1992.

He was a member of the Fish and Game Club, where he was keeper of the books. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a member of the Tuesday Night Mens Bowling League.

He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Wojciak, whom he married on Oct. 5, 1946, in St. Bernard’s Rectory; five daughters, Mrs. Peter (Bonnie) Stockton of Ilion, Mrs. Fred (Christine) LaMere of Tupper Lake, Mrs. Gerard (Michele) Williams of Paul Smiths, Mrs. Barry (Deirdre) Badore of Saranac Lake and Mrs. Alex (Heather) Sinos of Patra, Greece; two sons, Michael and his wife Diane Charland of Saranac Lake and Barton and his wife Dianne Charland of Saranac; one sister, Mrs. Helen Soucia of Tully; two brothers, Charles Charland of Clay and Richard Charland of North Syracuse; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchlidren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Lyle Charland and Loris Charland Jr.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church with Father Joseph Wheelok officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Tupper Lake.

Scholtz — A celebration of the life of William R. Scholtz, of the Hard Scrabble Road in Saranac, who passed away on May 17, 2000, will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Route 3 in Saranac.

Orman D. Beaton, 76, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at his home.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1923, to James and Lora (Hatch) Beaton.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

John Thomas Hutton, 75, of Ticonderoga and Putnam Station, passed away Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Hallmark Nursing Home in Granville.

He was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Putnam Station.

Calling hours will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home in Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the family plot of the Meadow Knoll Cemetery in Putnam Station.

Mateck "Matt" J. Michalak, 89, of Park Avenue in Ticonderoga and formerly of 947 Kings Road in Schenectady, died on July 4, 2000, at the Glens Falls Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Niagara Falls on Feb. 19, 1911, the son of Joseph and Maryanna (Jankolski) Michalak.

At Mr. Michalak’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2000, with the Rev. William Muench officiating. Burial will take place in the family plot in the Moriah Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connery & Gunning Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

Rose H. Mackemull, 90, of Crown Point, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born on Nov. 14 1909, in the Bronx.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery of Shelton, Conn., at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

Claude Conner Muse, 64, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at St. Peter’s Inn in Albany.

He was born April 25, 1936, in Newport, Tenn.

There are no services. The Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Crowe, 65, of 114 Webster Street in Malone, died Wednesday morning, July 5, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a patient there since July 1, 2000.

Born in Ruchill, Scotland, on May 24, 1935, he was the son of the late David and Flora (MacDonald) Crowe.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Frederick M. Griffen

Pottersville — Frederick M. Griffen Sr., 87, of PottersvIlle, overwhelmingly admired and loved by family and friends, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness.

Born on Sept. 14, 1912, in Quaker Springs, he was the son of the late Edward and Marietta (Wader) Griffen.

At the age of seventeen he quit school to help his sister, who had become a widow, take care of her five children and her farm. On March 25, 1935, he married Elizabeth E. Blood of Orwell,Vt. They moved to the Pottersville area in 1949. Mr. Griffen was a lumberjack for 15 years and also a carpenter and mason. He held the position of assessor for the town of Chester for 17 years. He and his wife, Elizabeth had a christmas wreath business that they ran out of their home for 50 years. They owned and operated the Traveler’s Restaurant and the antique shop in Pottersville for many years. In the summer months they ran Kipp Mt. and the Our Drive-In soft ice cream stands in Pottersville.

Mr. Griffen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who truly loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed traveling and has spent time in all 50 states. His good companion, Sara his cocker spaniel, also enjoyed traveling. He enjoyed watching television, especially old westerns.

He is predeceased by one daughter, Marie Ann Griffen, who died Dec. 9, 1935; and one son, Clark L. Griffen, who died Jan, 26, 1998; three brothers, Chancey Griffen, Issac Griffen and Gorge Griffen; and three sisters, Bertha Griffen, Harriet Bentley and Florence Goggin.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Griffen of Pottersville; two daughters, Marietta Knapp of Cody, Wy. and Ellen Grybos and her husband, Larry, of Plattsburgh; two sons, Gareth Griffen and Anne Monroe of Pottersvllle and Frederick M. Griffen Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Pottersville; one daughter-in-law, Carol Griffen of Minerva; one brother, Harry Griffen of Schenectady; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchidren; and also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Julia L. Renadette

Plattsburgh — Julia L. Renadette, 95, died peacefully Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, where she had been a resident since November 1999. For two years prior, she was living at the home of her daughter, Theresa Vassar. Mrs. Renadette lived most of her life on the Military Turnpike.

She was born in Redford on May 15, 1905, the daughter of Wilfred and Rose (LaFountain) Defayette.

She was employed at Imperial Wallpaper Mill in Plattsburgh for over 20 years. She was a member of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville and the St. Alexander’s Altar-Rosary Society.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Leon Vassar of Altona, a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Leona Renadette of Plattsburgli; a daughter-in-law, Cecilia Renadette of Morrisonville; a brother, Ephriani Defayette of Morrisonville; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Arthur Renadette Sr. died in 1979 and a son, Victor Renadette died in 1996.

Calling hours were Monday at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday from St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Milton B. Everleth

Saranac — Mr. Milton B. Everleth, 78, of the Canning Road, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Saranac on Jan. 10, 1922, the son of the late Byron G. and Alta (Favaro) Everleth.

Milton worked on his family farm for many years and was the transportation supervisor for Saranac School District, retiring in 1980. He served several terms as Justice of the Peace for the Town of Saranac. Milton was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Saranac United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Milton was predeceased by a sister, Ella Volker.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married Aug. 14, 1942, Winnifred (Canning) Everleth of Saranac; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Linda Everleth of Saranac and William and Julie Everleth of Mooers; a daughter, Melonie Everleth and her fiance, Randy Barber of Saranac; five grandchildren, Brenden, Jennara, Rachael, Ben and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Park Row Cadyville. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Saranac United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Independence Cemetery in Saranac.

Renadette — A Mass of Christian burial for Julia L. Renadette, 95, who died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home, was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday from St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Stephen Gratto, pastor and was concelebrated by Rev. Gilbert Boisvert and Brother Roland Gaudette. The crucifer was Midge Sorrell. The organist was Ben Reavis accompanied by the parish choir. The pallbearers were Larry Vassar, Tommy Renadette, William Renadette, Wilfred Renadette, Gerard Renadette and Dennis Renadette. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren formed an honor guard. Reflections were offered by several family members. Burial followed in the parish cemetery, where Revs. Gratto and Boisvert recited the committal prayers. The O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh was in charge of arrangements.

Hebert — A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, July 4, 2000, from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh for Mattie Hebert, 95, of the Tom Miller Road, who died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Meadowbrook Health Care in Plattsburgh. Msgr. Morris Dwyer, retired, celebrated the Mass. The pall, crucifix and rosary were placed by Pamela Garrison and Linda Sylvain and the gifts were presented by Arthur Hebert and Ronald Hebert. The readers were Doris Blow and Vicki Howard. The musicians were George Shnob and Perry Provost and the altar server was Gertrude Germaine. The pallbearers were Carl St. Germaine, Robert Racette, Hillard Blow, Michael Lancto, Bill Garison and Fred Arce. A delegation from St. Peter’s Altar Rosary Society acted as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery, where Msgr. Dwyer read the committal prayers.

Helen P. Pattison

Palm Harbor, Fla. — We record with sorrow the death of Helen (Panayiotou) Pattison, 73, who died at her Palm Harbor, Fla., home on Tuesday, June 27, 2000.

She was born in Buffalo on Sept. 1, 1926, the daughter of Anast and Catherine (Christopolus) Panayiotou, one of six children.

She became a secretary and came to Westport, where she met her husband, Charles Worden Pattison. In early years, she worked at the Champlain Valley Seed Co-op. Later, she was a secretary at the Westport Inn and was married to Charles W. Pattison in December 1948. They both worked in the office of the Pattison Real Estate and Insurance Agency for several years.

Her husband predeceased her on Jan. 7, 1977. In 1991, she moved to Florida. Helen had expertise in both golf and bridge. She also enjoyed crochet work.

She was very grateful for the kind thoughts of friends during her illness. She will be missed by her loving family and friends and remembered for her kindness to others, her keen enjoyment of life and her sense of humor.

Survivors include two sisters, Fotene P. Keys of Northridge, Calif. and Sophie P. Randall of North Hills, Calif.; one brother, Peter Panayiotou, who cared for her throughout her illness; he may be contacted at 400 Glenes Lane, Dunedin, Fla. 34698; a sister-in-law, Emily P. Dodge of Westport; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Calliope (Kelly) Panayiotou and a brother, Leo Panayiotou, both of California.

Burial was in Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, Calif.; however, a memorial service for Helen will be held in the Westport Federated Church in Westport, N.Y., at a later date.

Alexander Anderson

Tupper Lake — Alexander Anderson, 77, of Boyer Avenue in Tupper Lake, died on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt., where he had been a patient since Sept. 17, 1999.

Born on May 10, 1923, in Pojo, Finland, he was the son of Axel and Mary (Carlson) Anderson of West Herbron. His father later remarried.

Mr. Anderson married his second wife, Shirley B. Gumlaw Frank of Tupper Lake on July 10, 1982.

Mr. Anderson served in the Finnish Army, coming to the Unites States in 1948, where he served in the U.S. Army. Over the years, he worked in paper mills and auto body shops. He retired a tractor-trailer driver for the state of New York in 1985. He was a charter member of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Mont Arab Lodge 847. His hobbies were woodworking and fishing.

Survivors include his stepmother, Jane Anderson TeBordo of Salem; two daughters from his first marriage, Dianne Berke of Albany and Susan Pinkerton of Schenectady; a stepson and his wife, Chris and Marlene Frank of Connecticut; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean Thompson of Malone and Betty and Walter Ayers, also of Malone; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. John and Barbara Anderson of Wellsboro, Pa., and James and Karin Anderson of Boca Raton, Fla.; one stepbrother, David Hurd of Morrisonville; two stepsisters and their spouses, Joyce and Gerald Gerry of Salem and Nancy and Ed Somers of Nassau; three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Nora and Gerald Ratta, Francis Gumlaw and Francis DeLong; one aunt, Edith Gyllenberg of Emmet, Idaho; four grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by both of his parents and his second wife on Nov. 28, 1999.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A double graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, at St. Alphonsus Cemetery for both Alexander and Shirley Anderson. The Rev. John Anderson will preside.

Harold D. Maulding

Peru — Harold D. Maulding, 81 of the Bear Swamp Road in Peru, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 17, 1919, the son of Virgil and Loulla (Graves) Maulding.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.

He married the former Gladys Dashnaw on March 31, 1938, in Schuyler Falls.

Mr. Maulding was a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility for many years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Maulding of Peru; one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Donna Maulding of Inglewood, Fla.; two daughters, Shirley Hubbard of St. Albans, Vt., and Jacqueline Sowolla of Kentucky; one brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Marjorie Maulding of Schuyler Falls; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Viola Toombs of Indiana and Mary and Francis Pshaw of Chateaugay; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 6, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru with Rev. Vicente Jazmines celebrating. Burial will follow in God's Acre Cemetery.

Mike Poupore

ChateaUgay — Mike Poupore, 48, of Collins Street in Chateaugay, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Chateaugay on Feb. 1, 1952, the son of Joseph and Lillian (DeCosse) Poupore.

He was married to the former Terry Recore on May 27, 1972, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Churubusco.

Mr. Poupore graduated from Chateaugay Central School in 1971. He was employed at Dick's Country Store in Churubusco as manager until two years ago, when ill health forced him to retire. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed gardening and bowling. He bowled a perfect game at the Chateaugay Lanes. He was a member of The Lost Nation Hunting Club.

Mr. Poupore is survived by his wife of 28 years; three children, Shawn Poupore of Plattsburgh, Jessica Poupore of Chateaugay and Brittany Poupore of Chateaugay; six sisters and five brothers-in-law, Rita Ryan of Burke, Muriel and Thomas Campbell of Chateaugay, Linda and Kenny Prevo of Ellenburg Center, Janet and Frank LaClair of Ellenburg Center, Cynthia and David Marger of Scotia and Susan and Paul Gregory of Pittsfield; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Marlyn Poupore of Hamilton, James and Mary Poupore of Verona Beach, Gerald and Nancy Poupore of Warners and John and Eileen Poupore of Puyallup, Wash.

He was predeceased in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Poupore.

Clifford R. Brown

LAKE PLACID — Clifford R. Brown, 44, of 3 Deerwood Trail, Lake Placid, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Born December 30, 1955 in Point Pleasant, N.J., he was a son of Frank V. and Marilyn K. Hopler Brown.

Mr. Brown was a resident of Seaside Park, N.J., before moving to Lake Placid in 1990. He was a graduate of Monmouth College in Longbranch, N.J., receiving a masters in business. While a resident of Seaside he had been employed by the First National Bank, Toms River, N.J., was a member of the Republican Club and the Town Council and attended Grace Evangelical Church where he was a treasurer. He was also an honorary Life Member of the Seaside Volunteer Fire Department.

While in Lake Placid he was an active member and treasurer of Trinity Chapel where he also sang while his wife Lisa played the organ. He was director of the Church Youth Group, Awana. He was active in fundraising for the Boy Scouts, the Tom Shipman Youth Center and the Tri Lakes Shelter for Abused and Battered Women as well as other organizations. He was a former member of the Adirondack Economic Development Organization (AEDC). He had been employed as a broker and financial advisor for Paine Webber in Plattsburgh and later for Windham Financial Services out of Plattsburgh for the past three years.

Survivors include his wife the former Lisa Bergquist, whom he married March 1, 1980 in Point Pleasant, N.J., two sons: Kristopher T. Brown and Daniel E. Brown, three daughters: Anastasia J. Brown, Natalie K. Brown and Monica A. Brown, all of Lake Placid his aunt and uncle, Robert and Helen Hopler of Maryland and cousins Jennifer Hopler Haas and Karen Hopler Boyer and other cousins and aunts as well as many friends.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Trinity Chapel, Lake Placid with Reverend Robert Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid.

Dora V. LaForest

PLATTSBURGH — Dora V. LaForest, 89, formerly of 28 Champlain Street, died Saturday, July 1, 2000,, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home. She was born in Mooers, N.Y., on May 21, 1911, the daughter of John and Mary (Gates) Caron.

Mrs. LaForest was a member of St. Peter’s Church.

She enjoyed gardening and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include three sons, Gary LaForest and his wife Vivian and Ansel LaForest and his wife Faye all of Plattsburgh, and Melvin LaForest and his wife Judy of Beekmantown; nine grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. LaForest was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters, and her husband, George LaForest died in 1986.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church.

Robert F. Bosworth

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. — Robert F. Bosworth, 80, formerly of Saranac, N.Y., and more recently with his sister in Hillsborough Twp., N.J., died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in E. Orange, New Jersey.

He was born on December 7, 1919 in Mineville, N.Y., the son of Clayton and Mary G. (Durgin) Bosworth.

Mr. Bosworth was a WWII Army veteran serving as a corporal in Company "E" of the 157th Infantry. He was an Automatic Rifleman fighting in France and Germany. Mr. Bosworth was awarded a purple heart with Oak Leaf Cluster as a result of being wounded in France in 1944 and later in Germany in 1945. He was also decorated with the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.

Mr. Bosworth worked on the farm of his late uncle Curtis Durgin, in Saranac, before and after WWII.

He was a member of the Saranac Methodist Church and Clinton Lodge #155 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Plattsburgh.

Survivors include two sisters, A. Jane Guenther of Hillsborough Twp., N.J., and Madeleine Chase of Peru, N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Catherine Bosworth of Saranac, N.Y., the wife of the late Ernest Bosworth and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, followed by funeral services 3 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in Saranac Independence Cemetery.

Mattie Hebert

Plattsburgh — Mattie Hebert, 95, of the Tom Miller Road, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.

She was born in St. Agathe, Maine, on April 12, 1905, the daughter of Elzear and Catherine (Durand) O’Clair.

Mattie was instrumental in the establishment of the school for retarded children, which has become Clinton County ARC. She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh and a member of St. Peter’s Altar Rosary Society.

Mattie is survived by her husband of 72 years, Arthur J. Hebert of Plattsburgh; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Fay Hebert of Homestead, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine and Robert Lancto of Clifton Park and Marilyn and Willard Stiles of Plattsburgh; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mattie was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Anne Hebert; three brothers; and five sisters.

Robert A. Becker

Tupper Lake — Robert A. Becker, 38, of 29 Moody Road, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at his home.

Born on Feb. 27, 1962, in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Robert and Mary Becker.

Mr. Becker attended local schools and was employed as a carpenter with his father’s business, R&C Becker.

He is survived by his father of Tupper Lake; his mother of Bradenton, Fla.; three brothers, David, Paul and Mark, all of Tupper Lake; and one sister, Amy Symonds of Glens Falls.

Richard "Red" Deso

Champlain — Richard "Red" Deso, 81, died at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home on June 30, 2000.

He was born in Coopersville on Feb. 8, 1919, the son of Herbert and Josephine (Lamb) Murray.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 767 in Champlain, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in Champlain.

In 1940 he established and owned R. Deso, Inc. Ready-Mix Concrete and retired in 1991.

He is survived by three sons, James and wife, Shirley, of Rouses Point, Thomas of Rouses Point and Richard of Champlain; two brothers, Herbert Deso Jr. and Joseph, both of Champlain; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie LeFebvre and Mrs. Beatrice Castine, both of Champlain; and nine grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife, Madge McCormick Deso, who died Feb. 14, 1999; one son, Richard McCormick Deso; three sisters, Maude Deso, Lillian Arruda and Rita Abare; and one brother, John Deso.

Calling hours at the Clark Funeral Home in Champlain are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Clark Burrows

Crown Point — Clark B. Burrows died Friday, June 30, 2000, after an illness.

Mr. Burrows was born in Crown Point in 1916, the son of William Burrows Sr. and Irene (Towne) Burrows.

He graduated from Crown Point School, where he was an accomplished athlete, especially excelling at baseball. He served his country in several Pacific venues during World `War II. After the war, he graduated from Middlebury College and received a masters degree in philosophy from the Middlebury Breadloaf Campus.

Mr. Burrows taught English at both Port Henry High School and Crown Point Central School for many years and was a guidance counselor and assistant principal at Crown Point. He was a lifetime member of the Crown Point Congregational Church and was actively involved in the creation and administration of the Penfield Museum in Ironville. The town of Crown Point honored him as a Grand Marshall of the 1996 Memorial Day Parade.

His beloved wife, Mary-Alice, died in 1980. He leaves a son, Clark Burrows II of Holden, Mass.; two sisters, Virginia Fitzpatrick of Flushing and Evelyn Ross of Ellenburg Center; a grandson; a granddaughter; and several cherished nephews and neices.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William Burrows Jr. and Burtred Burrows.

A memorial service will be held at Crown Point Congregational Church on Thursday, July 6, at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Crown Point Congregational Church.

The Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry is handling the arrangements.

George R. O’Neill, 49, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

A graveside service will be held Monday, July 3, 2000, at 9 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks, with Rev. Bruce Favreau, pastor of the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks, officiating.

Arrangements are with the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

Robert F. Bosworth, 80, formerly of Saranac and, more recently, with his sister in Hillsborough Twp., N.J., died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in E. Orange, N.J.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1919, in Mineville, the son of Clayton and Mary G. (Durgin) Bosworth.

Arrangements are incomplete with the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
