Helen M. O’Brien
AuSable
Forks — Helen M. O’Brien, 71, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000,
at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
She was
born in AuSable Forks on Jan. 23, 1929, the daughter of Eli and
Priscilla (LaDuke) Mousseau.
She was
the wife of the late Hugh T. O’Brien.
She
graduated from AuSable Forks High School and then worked at J
& J Rogers Paper Company as an office clerk. For 13 years she
served as the property tax collector for the Town of Black Brook.
She was
the treasurer for the Catholic Daughters of America, a member of
the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and was an active member
of Holy Name Church.
In 1996
she moved to Maryland to be near her children.
Survivors
include two sons and daughters-in-law, Shawn and Cynthia O’Brien
of Eldersburg, Md. and David and Laurie O’Brien of Ellicott
City, Md.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Jean
Mousseau of AuSable Forks and Raymond and Judy Mousseau of Rouses
Point; two grandchildren, Patrick and Brandon O’Brien of
Eldersburg, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling
hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague
Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. A funeral Mass will be held at 10
a.m. on Monday at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will
be in the parish cemetery.

James Patrick Lanning
Ballston
Spa — James Patrick Lanning, 30, a resident of Ballston Spa,
died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Saratoga Hospital.
Born Oct.
10, 1969, in Rockville Centre, he was the son of Beverly Lanning
of Queensbury and David Lanning of Elizabethtown.
Jim was
loved by his family, friends and anyone touched by his charm, wit
and wisdom. He was a wonderful son, brother and uncle.
Jim was
Director of Conference Services at the Desmond Hotel in Albany,
where he was not only a leader, but a friend to all.
He is
survived by his mother, Beverly Lanning of Queensbury; his father,
David Lanning of Elizabethtown; his lifetime partner, Jeffrey
Desnoyers of Ballston Spa; three sisters, Deborah Sutliff and her
husband, Lyndon, of Hadley, Elizabeth Snyder and her husband,
Michael, of Queensbury and Colleen Jabaut and her husband,
Timothy, of Glens Falls; one brother, David Lanning Jr. of
Knoxville, Tenn.; his nieces and nephews, Jake, Matthew, Morgan
and Gabrielle Sutliff and Jenna Snyder; and many aunts, uncles and
cousins.
A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, June 19, 2000, at 10
a.m. by Reverend Peter Young at the Church of the Blessed
Sacrament in Bolton Landing. Burial will foIlow at Bolton Rural
Cemetery in Bolton Landing. Friends may call Saturday, June 17,
from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
at the Regan and Denny Funeral Home at 53 Quaker Road in
Queensbury.

Ernest Joseph Besaw
Churubusco
— Ernest Joseph Besaw, 84, of Glenns Way St. in Ellenburg, died
Thursday, June 15, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
Born in
Churubusco on May 3, 1916, he was the son of Frank and Mary
(LaCount) Besaw.
He was
married to the former Margaret Dumont on Nov. 11, 1943, in St.
Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg.
In his
earlier years Mr. Besaw owned and operated a dairy farm until
1954, sold cattle and then worked construction for several years,
retiring in 1978.
He was
then employed by the Town of Churubusco as operator of the town
landfill. He was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church
in Churubusco, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4441
for over 40 years and a member of Labor Union 186 for over 25
years.
Mr. Besaw
is survived by his wife of 56 years; two sons and
daughters-in-law; William and Kathleen Besaw of Killingworth,
Conn. and James and Nancy Besaw of Norwood; a daughter and
son-in-law; Betsey and Patrick Bell-O’Brien of San Diego,
Calif.; four grandchildren, Anne, Susan, Kevin and Carrie; and a
sister, Mrs. Betty Blakely of Malone.
He was
predeceased by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters, Anna
Morin, Flora Purdy, Loretta Larro, Clara Gillion, Helen Sylvain,
Madeline Caron McCluskey, Arthur, Wellington, George, Roy and
Linus Besaw.
Visitation
will be at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18, from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on
Monday, June 19, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with Rev.
Howard McCasland officiating. Entombment will take place at
Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.
Donations
in his memory may be made to the Rescue Squads in Ellenburg Depot
or Ellenburg Center.

Robert T. Gerry
Plattsburgh
— Robert T. Gerry, 82, formerly of Lake Forrest Dr., died on
Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in
Plattsburgh.
He was
born in New York City on March 26, 1918, the son of William and
Mary Guerra.
Bob
served in World War II in the U.S. Navy Special Forces,
"Beach Battalion". Their job was to set up beaches for
invasion forces in the Pacific He was wounded in action at
Linguyen Gulf in the Philippines.
Mr. Gerry
served as a representative for two national companies and as a
factory representative in northern New York for years. Then, as a
semi-retiree, he opened co-op laundries and became involved in
real estate, including property management, sales and maintenance.
He was a
lifetime member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge 621, the Plattsburgh
and Cocoa Beach Kiwanis Club, Disabled American Veterans, American
Legion and the Order of the Purple Heart. He attended church at
John XXXIII Parish at the Newman Center. He was past president of
the Plattsburgh Kiwanis Club and past president of Cocoa Beach
Kiwanis and lieutenant governor of Florida Central Kiwanis. He
also was very active on many committees in Cocoa Beach, Fla. He
enjoyed fishing including surf casting, traveling, and hunting.
His first
wife, Rosalynn Gerry, predeceased him. He is survived by Robert W.
and Shirley Gerry of Morrisonville, Michael T. and Sally Gerry of
Huntsville, Ala. and Cindee Gerry Aiello and her husband, Andrew
Aiello, of Port St. Lucy, Fla. He is also survived by 11
grandchildren.
Mr. Gerry
Sr. married Mildred Bushey Foti in Florida. Mrs. Gerry has one
son, Jim Foti of South Carolina and one daughter, Michelle Foti
Moschelle of Cumberland Head.
Calling
hours will be held Sunday, June 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 19, at 10 a.m. at St.
Alexander’s Church, with Rev. Stephen Gratto, pastor,

Depot — Elsie Amanda Hart, 75, of 637 Bull Run Rd. in Ellenburg
Depot, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at Fletcher Allen
Hospital in Burlington, Vt.
Elsie was
born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 6, 1925, the daughter of Delbert and
Ethel (Bond) Clark.
Elsie was
married to George Harvey Hart on March 20, 1942.
Elsie was
employed by the Slipper Factory for several years and also at
Delagar Division. She was active on the Altar and Rosary, Catholic
Daughters of America, ECCO and was a CCD teacher for many years.
Elsie also enjoyed gardening, art, music, writing, making cakes
and spending time with her family and friends....Elsie really
loved everyone!
Elsie was
a communicant of St. Edmund’s Catholic Church in Ellenburg.
Elsie is
survived by her husband, George, of 58 years; three daughters and
sons-in-law, Gale and Carl Tourville of Ellenburg Center, Carole
and Dan Hollingdale of Calais, Maine and Sherryl and Dennis
McCreless of Ellenburg Depot; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Harvey and Gloria Hart of Champlain and Delbert and Debbie Hart of
Ellenburg Depot; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.
Two sons,
Donald and Kevin Hart; and one granddaughter, Mary Beth Hart,
predeceased her.
Visitation
will be on Friday, June 16, from noon until 9 p.m. at Sherryl and
Dennis McCreless’s home at 603 Bull Run Road in Ellenburg Depot.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, in St.
Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s
Cemetery in Mooers Forks.

Merrill
— Ernest L. LeClair, 61, of Blanche Rd. in Merrill, died on
Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born in
Churubusco on Nov. 11, 1938, he was the son of Leo and Lumina
(Pateaude) LeClair.
He was
married to the former Margaret Smith on Dec. 24, 1968, in
Brewster.
Mr.
LeClair was employed by Concrete Building Supply in Plattsburgh,
until 1997 when ill health forced him to retire.
He
enjoyed doing odd jobs for family and friends and traveling.
Mr.
LeClair is survived by his wife of 31 years; his mother; two sons
and daughters-in-law, E.J. and Lisa Ball of Clifton Park and
Robert and Martha Ball of Wingdale; two grandchildren, Christopher
and Thomas Ball; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Florence
LeClair of Merrill, Cynthia LeClair of Merrill and Grace and
Marion France of Johnson City, Tenn.; two brothers, Lawrence
LeClair of Danbury, Conn. and Raymond LeClair of Walled Lake,
Mich.
Those
that preceded in death were his father; three brothers, Donald,
Leo Paul and Billy; and two sisters, Leora and Margaret.

William M. Bleh
Plattsburgh
— William M. Bleh, 80, of 376 Margaret St. in Plattsburgh, died
on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was
born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sept. 24, 1919, the son of Leo and Ann
(Palmer) Bleh.
Mr. Bleh
married the former Adelaide Pelton in Cohoes in 1947.
He was a
member of the Keeseville Lodge of Elks 2072 and the Keeseville
Masonic Temple and a former member the Rod and Gun Club and the
North Country Golf Club.
Mr. Bleh
was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific
Theatre with the 335th Engineers and was involved in the campaigns
for India and Burma.
He worked
as a road and grounds foreman at the Plattsburgh Air Force base
for 20 years, until retiring in 1975.
Survivors
include his wife, Adelaide of Plattsburgh; one son, John Bleh and
his wife, Martha, of Jackson, Wyo.; one daughter, Mrs. Lucian
(Nancy) Lemery of Windsor, Vt.; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Gross of
Palm Harbour, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Erik Morrow, Erin
Morrow and John William Bleh.
There
will be no public calling hours. Private services will be held at
a later date.

Renee R. Ruzow
Willsboro
— Renee R. Ruzow, 80, died at her home on Willsboro Point on
Wednesday, June 14, 2000, after a long illness.
She was
born in New York City on Aug. 18, 1919, to Linda and Henry
Braunstein.
Before
moving to Willsboro, Renee lived in Yonkers, where she raised her
children and was active in politics, theatre, school and civic
functions. Renee started her career as a toe and ballet dancer. In
the late 30's, she was a key member of the Three Sophisticated
Ladies, a theatrical group that performed overseas and throughout
the United States, including in the cast of "Rose of
Washington Square". After her marriage, she assisted in the
creation and direction of various musical and comedy productions
featured in the Yonkers area.
Renee is
survived by her husband, Theodore M. Ruzow, of Willsboro; four
children, Lawrence A. Ruzow, of Gallup, N.M.; Eileen Model of
Scarsdale, Daniel Ruzow of Clifton Park and Ann Hope Ruzow Holland
of Willsboro; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside
services will be held on Sunday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at Mt. Hope
Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson. A memorial service will be held
later that day at Temple Beth Israel at 1 Bowman Street in
Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. The Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh is
handling the arrangements.

Falls — Robert H. Sperle, 63, of Amber Lane, died on Wednesday,
June 14, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center.
He was
born in Meade, S.D., the son of Edwin and Vina (Nearhood) Sperle.
Robert
served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years. After his military
career, he went to work for Imperial Paper for 23 years, until it
closed in 1998.
Survivors
include his wife, the former Charlene (Masters) Sperle of Schuyler
Falls; one daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and Clyde Doty of
Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tina Sperle of
Saranac; his stepmother, Helen Sperle of Sturgis, S.D.; three
brothers, Neil Sperle of Rapid City, S.D., Merlin Sperle of
Sturgis, S.D. and Keith Sperle of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters,
Marjorie Childris and Doris Dowling, both of Mason City, Iowa;
five grandchildren, Shaun Senecal, Travis and Turner Sperle and
Brandon and Heather Barnaby; and several nieces and nephews.

— Eugene D. Hemingway Jr., 59, of Basket Ave. in Keeseville,

He was
born in Keeseville on Sept. 17, 1940, the son of Eugene Sr. and
Gertrude (Larose) Hemingway.
He
married the former Sandra A. Hart on June 15, 1979, in
Massachusetts.
He worked
for Battat in Plattsburgh.
He
enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors
include his wife, Sandra A. Hemingway of Keeseville; two
daughters, Sueanne of Orange, Mass. and Luanne of Indiana; one son
and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crystal Cody of Keeseville; four
brothers, Henry "Hank" Hemingway of Champlain, Gerald
Hemingway of North Carolina, William Hemingway of Orange, Mass.
and George Hemingway of Massachusetts; one sister, Gloria of
Orange, Mass.; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his
mother-in-law, Dorothy Hart of Keeseville.
He was
predeceased by one son, Sean.

Irene M.
Rabideau
Plattsburgh
— Irene M. Rabideau, 91, of Clinton County Nursing Home and
formerly of LaFayette Street, died on Monday, June 13, 2000, at
the CVPH Medical Center.
She was
born in Morrisonville on Aug. 11, 1908, the daughter of Fred and
Mary (Gadway) Fisher.
Mrs.
Rabideau was married by Fr. Gobet to Harry Earl Rabideau in
Morrisonville on May 17, 1926. Mr. Rabideau died in 1969.
Mrs.
Rabideau was a member of St. Peter’s Church. She was a member of
the Catholic Daughters and Altar Rosary Society of St. Peter’s
Church, several senior citizens groups and the Home Bureau.
She
worked for many years at St. Peter’s School and Mount Assumption
Institute. Mrs. Rabideau was an avid walker and walked at least
four miles a day for about 50 years.
Survivors
include four sons and daughters-in-law, Roland and Ita Rabideau of
Pembrooke Pines, Fla., Richard and Dixie Rabideau of Springfield,
Ill., Gary and Karen Rabideau of Plattsburgh and Grant and Cindy
Rabideau of Plattsburgh; three daughters and two sons-in-law,
Shirley Wood and her companion, James Ryan, of Plattsburgh,
Beverly and Robert "Corky" McLaughlin of Dallas, Texas
and Sondra and Charles Klyber of Springfield, Ill.; 21
grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
One
daughter, Barbara Ruth Rabideau, died when she was an infant.

Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial
will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church.

There

be announced.

Thomas J. Colgan
Ellenburg
— Thomas J. Colgan, 59, of 4595 Route 11 in Ellenburg, died on
Monday, June 12, 2000, at his home.
Born in
Ellenburg Depot on Feb. 17, 1941, he was the son of Wellington and
Grace (Smith) Colgan.
He was
married to the former Shirley Hart on April 27, 1963.
Mr.
Colgan was employed by the New York State Department of
Corrections in the maintenance department and retired on May 23,
1997, as plant superintendent at Bare Hill Correctional in Malone.
He enjoyed the winter months at his home in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He was a
communicant of St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg, serving as
Eucharstic minister, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th
degree. Tom was an avid hunter and member of the Gulf View Hunting
Club.
Mr.
Colgan is survived by his wife of 37 years; a daughter and
son-in-law, Sheila and Dale Goodrow of Owls Head; a son, Ian
Colgan of Albany; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and
Marguerite Colgan of Ellenburg Depot; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Ethelyn and Ross Lamb of Churubusco and Bernice
and Eric Lamb of Ellenburg Corners.
He was
predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Lester Colgan.
Visitation
will be at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 14, from 2
to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on
Thursday, June 15, in St. Edmund’s Church, with Rev. Richard
Colgan and Rev. Joseph Trombley. Entombment will take place at
Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.

Middlebury,
Vt. — Emily C. McCasland, 88, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at
her home at the Meadows in Middlebury, Vt., following a recent
illness.
She was
born in Redford on Feb. 13, 1912, to Napolean and Melvina (Badger)
Gonyea.
She
married Leonard L. McCasland on Nov. 28, 1931.
Although
Emily lived 21 years in Vermont, she previously lived and raised
her family in Standish. She was an honorary member of the Catholic
Daughters of America.
She is
survived by her sons, Jack of Dannemora and Larry of Queensbury; a
daughter, Phyllis McCasland of Toms River, N.J.; 11 grandchildren,
13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her
husband, Leonard, died in 1969. Her daughter, Betty O’Conner;
her brothers, Norman, Bill, Victor and Gerald; and a sister,
Elaine, also died earlier.
Visiting
hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday from St. James Church in
Cadyville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Gordon H. Fountain
Beekmantown
— Mr. Gordon H. Fountain, 85, of the Durand Road, died on
Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was
born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 15, 1914, the son of the late Horace
H. and Addie (Golden) Fountain.
Gordon
had been self-employed as a logger and enjoyed hunting and
fishing. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church.
Gordon is
survived by his wife, Flora M. (Corron) Fountain, whom he married
on June 29, 1942, at St. Peter’s Church; a son, Brian Fountain
of Plattsburgh; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and
Robert Remchuk of West Chazy, Karen Fountain of Plattsburgh and
Susan and Harlan Hebert of Ellenburg Depot; two brothers and two
sisters-in-law, Otis and Betty Fountain of Beekmantown and
Ellsworth and Rita Fountain of Somerset, Mass.; two sisters and a
brother-in-law, Calista Dumont of Beekmantown and Thelma and
Harold Relation of Beekmantown; six grandchildren, Connie, Gordon
and Robert Remchuk, Nevin Hebert and Brian and Amanda Fountain;
five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon
was predeceased by two sisters, Beulah Cartier and Barbara Beck.

Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church.

L. Webber, 57, of
572 Old Bristol Rd. in New Hampton, N.H., died June 10, 2000, at
Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston, Mass., after a long

He was

Point, Maine.

Mader II, 45,

born July 8, 1914, in New York City.

Louis "Herman"
Brunell
Chazy —
Louis "Herman" Brunell, 75, of the Miner Farm Road, died
Sunday, June 11, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh
following a recent illness.
He was
born in Chazy on Feb. 3, 1925, son of the late Louis and Julia
Brunell.
Herman
was co-owner and operator of Brunell Brothers Dairy Farm in Chazy.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in
Champlain, a member of St. Louis de France Church in Sciota and a
past president of the local chapter of the Dairymen's League.
Herman was also past president of the Sciota Youth Commission. He
enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also
enjoyed carpentry and gardening.
Herman is
survived by his wife, the former Rita May White. They were married
on Nov. 25, 1954, in St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. He is
also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Hermon and Dorothy
Brunell and Dennis and Julie Brunell of Chazy; three
grandchildren, Katelyn, Drew and Kayse Brunell; a brother, Culbert
Brunell of Chazy; and three sisters, Mae Brunell of Plattsburgh,
Rita Brunell of Chazy and Irene Brunell of Chazy.
Herman
was pre-deceased by a half brother, Henry Brunell.
Calling
hours will be private at the convenience of the family. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.
from St. Louis de France Church in Sciota.

She was
born in Lake Placid on April 14, 1922, the daughter of George W.
and Margaret (Hazelton) Nason.
Marie
married Joseph R. Toussaint on April 16, 1940, in St. Agnes'
Church in Lake Placid.
She was a
member of Our Lady of Victory Church.
Survivors
include her husband, Joseph "Harley" Toussaint; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Bates, Sandra and Ronald
Weaver and Susan and Gary Baker, all of Plattsburgh; one brother
and sister-in-law, Francis and Margaret Nason of Fruitland Park,
Fla; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
One
brother, George Nason, her sister, Mildred Blanchard and a
son-in-law, Stephen Bates, all died earlier.

Esther M. Lacey
PLATTSBURGH —
Mrs. Esther M. Lacey, 92, of Beekman Towers, died Sunday, June 11,
2000, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in
Sciota on May 11, 1908, the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian
(Deyo) Dragoon.
Esther retired
from the food service department at Northern Adirondack Central
School. She was a member of Windy Towers Senior Citizens Club, the
Clinton County Senior Citizens Council and enjoyed parties and
get-togethers.
Mrs. Lacey was a
devoted and loving mother who allows looked on the bright side of
everything and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Esther is survived
by her daughter, Katherine and son-in-law, Roger Lemieux of Peru;
her son, Robert Lacey of Plattsburgh and his companion, Sally
Kline of Lyon Mountain; her daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law,
Armand "Lefty" Manor of Beekmantown; her daughter Dawn
and son-in-law, Steve Bruso of Mooers; her daughter-in-law, Joan
Lacey of Peru; her sister Nora Jarvis of Plattsburgh; her sister
Doris Wynn of Tupper Lake; nine grandchildren; three
step-grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was
predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert E. Lacey; a
daughter, Shirley Wilkins, who died in 1990 and a son, Patrick
Lacey, who died in 1995.

be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh.

Norman
W. "Bill" Pauling, Jr.
August 15,
1925-June 10, 2000
It is with heavy
hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Norman W.
"Bill" Pauling, Jr. to a better place. Born in
Bowdoinham, Maine, son of Norman W. and Mary S. Pauling, Sr.
Bill grew up in
New England. Following high school, he joined the U.S. Army, 141st
Infantry of the 36th Infantry Division, served during World War II
in the European theater and survived being a prisoner of war in
Germany.
Following his
discharge from the army, he received a bachelor of science degree
in agriculture from the University of New Hampshire. He received
his master’s degree in agriculture from Cornell University. Bill
was a Cornell Cooperative Extension agent in agriculture in
Jefferson County, Lewis County, Ulster County and Clinton County,
where he retired in 1987. Bill was also an assistant professor at
Canton ATC and managed the college farm from 1972-1979. He was an
agricultural consultant in Vermont after his retirement.
Bill had many
interests in his life. He was a member, elder, deacon and choir
member of First Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh. Bill enjoyed
singing with several chorale groups. He enjoyed volunteering his
time and helping other people. Most recently he was a volunteer
and active participant at the Traumatic Brain Injury Regional
Center at Plattsburgh State.
Bill was
pre-deceased by his father, mother, a sister, Virginia Harriman
and brother, Philip Pauling.
He is survived by
his wife, Janice of Morrisonville; a son and daughter-in-law,
Philip and Pat Pauling of Adams; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen
and Bruce Shepard of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; five grandchildren,
Jennifer Pauling, Andrew Pauling, Jacob Pauling, Zachary Pauling
and Harrison Pauling; a brother, Walter Pauling of Maryland;
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be
at Brown Funeral Home (29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh) on Tuesday,
June 13, 2000, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be
held Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian
Church in Plattsburgh. Following the funeral service, a reception
will be held at the church. Burial will follow in Whispering
Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.

Ella Carver
Willsboro
— Ella Carver, 99, of the West Road in Willsboro, died at
Elizabethtown Community Hospital on Thursday, June 8, 2000.
She was
born in Willsboro on April 4, 1901, the daughter of Jeremiah and
MaryEllen (Cushing) Ryan.
She was a
graduate of Willsboro High School, a graduate of the Plattsburgh
Normal School and taught grades one through eight in one-room
schools in Brookfield, Deers Head and on Willsboro Mountain.
She was a
member of St. Philip’s Church in Willsboro and a 75-year charter
member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Joan of Arc
867.
Mrs.
Carver was a devoted mother to John W. Carver of Willsboro, Jerry
R. and his wife, Jean Carver, of Springfield, N.J., Patrick E.
Carver of Plattsburgh, Reginald A. Carver of Willsboro, MaryAnne
and her husband, Justin Cardarelli, of Framingham, Mass. and Helen
and her husband, Jerome Unruh, of Odessa, Del.; and several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several nieces
and nephews.
She was
predeceased by her husband, John, who died April 5, 1989.

June Brewer
Jay —
June Brewer, 75, of Route 86, died peacefully at her home
surrounded by her teddy bears, on Friday, June 9, 2000.
She was
born June 24, 1924, in Clarence, the daughter of Leonard and Ethel
Clary.
June was
a past member of the Auxiliary of the Jay Volunteer Fire
Department. Her hobby was collecting teddy bears. She also enjoyed
cooking, baking, working in her flower gardens and family
gatherings.
June is
survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and George C. Smith;
three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Cathie Brewer,
Loyd and Pamela Brewer and Jeffrey Brewer, all of Jay; nine
grandchildren, Susan Locklin, Nancy Florentine, Craig Smith, Gary
Brewer, Kristin Brewer, David Brewer, Cynthia Bruce, Amanda Brewer
and Kylah Brewer; many great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty
Geisler of Akron.
Her
husband, Dorwin Brewer, died on Feb. 15, 1991.
Calling
hours will be on Monday, June 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. A prayer
service will follow the calling hours on Monday at 11 a.m. Both
will be held at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable
Forks. Burial will follow in the family plot at Holy Name Cemetery

Elizabeth Hart

— Elizabeth Hart, 97, of Evergreen Valley Nursing Home and
formerly of Sailly Avenue, died on Friday, June 9, 2000.
She was
born in Granville on June 9, 1903, the daughter of Griffith and
Jane Roberts.
Mrs. Hart
married Philip J. Hart on Sept. 20, 1929. Philip died in 1962.
She was a
beautician for 58 years. She retired from her own beauty shop,
Betty’s Beauty Shop at 42 Sailly Avenue, in 1982.
She was a
member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh and a member
of the Ladies of the Elks 621.
She was a
former member of the Business and Professional Womens Association,
a founding member of the Adirondack Hairdressers Association,
Golden Agers, Plattsburgh Garden Club and the Plattsburgh Senior
Citizens.
Survivors
include one daughter-in-law, Genevieve Hart of Beacon; two
daughters and one son-in-law, Janeann and Morris Oshier of
Beekmantown and Carol Hackett of Plattsburgh; one brother and
sister-in-law, G. Spencer and Elizabeth Roberts of Fort Pierce;
ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
One son,
Philip Hart, died on May 20, 2000. She is also predeceased by one
brother, George Roberts; and one sister, Kate Lord.
