Hospital on Thursday, June 8, 2000.
She was born
in Willsboro on April 4, 1901, the daughter of Jeremiah and MaryEllen

She was born

Donna A. Brodi
Plattsburgh
— Mrs. Donna A. Brodi, 50, of Peru St., died on Thursday, June 8,
2000, at the CVPH Medical Center after a long and courageous battle
with cancer.
She was born
in Plattsburgh on June 1, 1950, the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy
(Clair) LaMountain.
Donna was the
owner and operator of the Riverside Cafe. She enjoyed cooking and was
a hardworking, devoted wife and mother. Donna was a member of Our Lady
of Victory Church.
She is
survived by her husband, Stephen Brodi of Plattsburgh, whom she
married July 26, 1986; her children, Michael Baughn, Steven Baughn,
Cory Baughn, Hope Baughn, Michael Brodi and Stephanie Brodi, all of
Plattsburgh; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Hugh
Jeffries of Plattsburgh, Carol Randall of Plattsburgh and Vicky
LaMountain of Plattsburgh; a brother, Harley LaMountain of Conn.; and
several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours
will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home
in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday
at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church. A vigil service will be
held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. Following
cremation interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Chazy —
Dorothy M. Brunelle, 85, of 444 Ratta Road in Chazy, died on
Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital
Medical Center.
She was born
in Chazy on June 14, 1914, the daughter of Walter and Cora (Wilfore)
Bolia.
She married
her husband of nearly 64 years, Charles M. Brunelle Sr., on May 16,
1936, in Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Mr. Brunelle died on Nov. 17,
1999.
Mrs. Brunelle
was a 1933 graduate of Chazy Central School. She was a devoted mother
and enjoyed gardening, crafting and cooking. Mrs. Brunelle was a
lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy.
Survivors
include four daughters, Mrs. Janice Beggs and her husband, Gerald
Beggs, of Ingraham, Mrs. Dorothy Yao and her husband, Dr. Francisco
Yao, of Sharpsville, Pa., Mrs. Katherine Howard and her husband,
Michael Howard, of Nashville, Tenn. and Joan Brunelle of Chazy; one
son, Charles M. Brunelle Jr. of Chazy; 14 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was
predeceased by one sister, Edith Bolia; and three brothers, Leo Bolia,
Arthur Bolia and Donald Bolia.
Calling hours
will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at Sacred
Heart Church at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart
Cemetery in Chazy.

Kathleen L. Studwell, 50, of Mooers, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at
the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born
in Plattsburgh on Jan. 28, 1950, the daughter of William and Cleo
(Monty) Goff.
Kathleen was
a member of the Champlain Valley Morgan Horse Association and donated
her time to the 4-H Club.
Survivors
include two daughters and sons-in-law; Heather and Gregg Lyon of Essex
Junction, Vt. and Michelle and James Grenon of Rouses Point; her
mother, Mrs. Cleo Goff of Plattsburgh; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Susan and Richard Conness of Lakeland, Fla. and
Barbara and James Dooley of Hayward, Wis.; three grandchldren, Scott
and Meghan Lyon of Essex Junction, Vt. and Dylan Grenon of Rouses
Point; a significant other, Marvin St. Denis; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
She is
predeceased by her father, William Goff.

will be Friday, June 9, 2000, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Clark Funeral
Home in Champlain. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 4
p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2000, at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain.

William N. Clary
Peru —
William N. Clary, age 70, of Peru and formerly of Marcy, passed away
June 6, 2000, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh,
where he had been a patient since March 2000.
Born on Aug.
19, 1929, in North Bangor, he was the son of the late David and Nina
Berry Clary.
He attended
school in the Bangor area. In 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where
he served in Panama. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
He was
employed by Marcy State Hospital in Marcy, where he worked as an
attendant until his retirement in 1987.
He was a
member of the Whitestown American Legion Post 1113 in Whitesboro and
the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed horse racing.
On Aug. 25,
1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Webb in New Canaan, Conn. She
predeceased him in 1974.
Survivors
include two sons, David Clary of Boonville and Steven and Karen Clary
of Mohawk; one daughter, Bonnie and Jeff LeBuis of Barneveld; six
grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also
survived by one brother, Bernard and Glenda Clary of Peru; and one
sister, Arline Spencer of Saranac Lake.
Besided his
parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Wolfred Clary
and Gerald Clary; and three sisters, Evelyn Wood, Elizabeth Clary and
Florence Brabon.
There will be
no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 17,
2000, at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cooks Corners, with
the Rev. John Milligan officiating.
Memorial

— Jennie D. LaPorte, 84, formerly of Lozier Place, died Tuesday,
June 6, 2000, at the Rome Memorial Hospital in Rome.
She was born
in Morrisonville on Aug. 3, 1915, the daughter of Clayton and Isabelle
Rock.
Jennie was a
graduate of Morrisonville High School. She was a homemaker and devoted
mother and wife. Jennie was a member of St. Peter’s Church in
Plattsburgh until she moved to Lee Center.
Jennie is
survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Eileen
LaPorte of Romeo, Mich. and Andrew and Kristine LaPorte of Lee Center;
a sister, Alice Favaro of Plattsburgh; a brother and sister-in-law,
Clayton and Janice Rock Jr. of Southboro, Mass.; a brother-in-law,
Walter Andrews of Morrisonville; five grandchildren, David LaPorte,
Michael LaPorte, Thomas LaPorte, Karen LaPorte Bailer and Christopher
LaPorte; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jennie was
predeceased by her husband, Lloyd V. LaPorte on Nov. 15, 1992; and her
sister, Marie Andrews on May 17, 2000.

Ruth H. Parks
PLATTSBURGH
— Ruth H. Parks, 93, of Wolfe Way, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at
CVPH Medical Center.
She was born
in the town of Alexandria in Jefferson County on Oct. 22, 1906, the
daughter of Reuben and Mae (Countryman) Hinman.
Her family
moved to Theresa, where Ruth spent her early life on the farm. She
graduated from Theresa High School in 1924 and the following year from
Antwerp Training Class, where Ruth taught for three years. She then
entered Potsdam Normal School, graduating in 1925. Mrs. Parks taught
in the Richville and Gouverneur School systems until retiring in 1969.
She married
James C. Parks on June 25, 1935, in Richville. In 1939, they purchased
a farm near the village. In 1974, they moved to Plattsburgh. Ruth was
a member of the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh, the New York
State Retired Teacher's Association, the Richville Chapter 291 Order
of the Eastern Star and AARP.
Survivors
include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Grace Parks of
Timberlake, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tom Rainey
of Plattsburgh and Joanne and Sidney Smith of Plattsburgh; five
grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and
nephews.
Calling hours
will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Wednesday
at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at
the Oakwood Cemetery in Theresa.

Mary Ellen Cawley
Witherbee —
Mary Ellen Cawley, 86, passed away at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in
Middlebury, Vt., on June 5, 2000.
She was the
daughter of William and Frances (McGrath) Cawley, born in Witherbee on
May 29, 1914, one of ten children. On the death of her mother, Mary
Ellen played a major part in the raising of the four youngest
children.
Mary Ellen
was predeceased in death by her parents; her brothers Thomas, Edward
and Kenneth Cawley; and a sister, Gertrude (Cawley) Kelly.
She is
survived by a sister, Alice Rifenbury and brothers James, Walter, John
and Richard Cawley.
Mary Ellen
worked at the Witherbee Post Office as a clerk and later as postmaster
and retired from that position in 1970. She was a lifetime member of
the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Peter and Paul Church in
Mineville and then St. Michael’s Church in Witherbee.
A memorial
service will be conducted at the Church of All Saints in Mineville on
Monday, June 12th, at 10 a.m. with Father Michael Toth officiating.
In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Evelene S. Schryver
Tupper Lake
— Evelene Sarah Schryver, 89, died June 3, 2000, at Mercy Healthcare
Center in Tupper Lake.
She was born
in Ogdensburg on March 19, 1911, the daughter of Oscar E. and Mathilda
E. (Burrows) Peo.
She attended
school in Ogdensburg and graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in
1930.
She was
married to Ben "Bud" Schryver on July 26, 1930. The couple
moved to Tupper Lake following their marriage. Mr. Schryver died in
1977.
She had
worked at the OWD, the Tupper Lake Free Press and as an assistant
librarian at the Tupper Lake Library. She retired from the Free Press
as a linotype operator in 1979.
She enjoyed
playing shuffle club bridge. She loved to golf and was a member of the
ladies twilight league and bowled in the mixed senior league. She
enjoyed sewing and reading.
She is
survived by a daughter and her husband, Carol and Richard Martell of
Tupper Lake; a son, John Schryver and his wife Carrie of Tupper Lake;
and a sister, Betty Faccio of Saddlebrook, N.J. She is also survived
by 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews.
Besides her
husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, James and Eugene.
There will be
a graveside service at 10 a.m. on June 6, 2000, at Lakeview Cemetery
in Tupper Lake. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 10, at
10 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Rev. Edgar LaCombe
officiating.
Memorial
contributions may be considered to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or the
Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad in care of the Richer Funeral Home
in Tupper Lake.
Nora (Honora) Mary French
Malone —
Nora (Honora) Mary French died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her home in
Malone.
Born July 16,
1908, in Huntingdon, Quebec, she was the daughter of Felix and Kate
(McGovern) Hughes.
Mrs. French
graduated from Notre Dame Convent School in Huntingdon, P.Q., and St.
Rocks School in Quebec City. She later trained at Alice Hyde Nursing
School in Malone, with affiliation at Bellevue Hospital and did her
post-graduate studies at Presbyterian Hospital, both in New York City.
She served in
the Army Nurse Corp from 1941 to June 1946, with 18 months overseas
duty in the European Theater.
She married
Edgar Hoit French on Oct. 18, 1946, at St. Joseph Church in Malone,
with the Reverend Russell O'Neill presiding. He predeceased her on
Dec. 8, 1999.
Surviving are
a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and John Hollinshead and a
granddaughter, Erin Honora Hollinshead, all of Chateaugay; and a
grandson, Andrew French Hollinshead, of Latham.
Besides her
husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Louise,
in infancy; a brother, Chester and a sister, Beatrice.
A member of
St. Joseph Church, Mrs. French was active in numerous organizations,
including the Alice Hyde Hospital Club, Retired Nurses Club, Malone
Duplicate Bridge Club, Catholic Daughters of America, member and past
president of the Elks 1303 Club, St. Joseph Altar and Rosary Society
and a former member of the Women’s Republican Club and past
committee person.
Governor
Nelson Rockefeller appointed her to the board of St. Lawrence State
Hospital, a capacity she served for over ten years. She also served
for 20 years on the board of the Farrer Home in Malone.
There will be
no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St.
Joseph Church on Wednesday, June 7, at 4 p.m., with Msgr. C. John
McAvoy officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery on Lake
Titus Road.
Memorial
donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Canton on March 9, 1945, the son of Clarence "Buck" and

Gunnerson — A graveside service for George S. Gunnerson will be
conducted on Saturday, June 10, 2000, at 3 p.m. at the Union Cemetery

formerly of Port Henry, died on March 1, 2000, at the Binghamton

Honora Mary French
MALONE — Honora "Nora"
Mary French, 91, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her home in Malone.
Born July 16, 1908, in Huntingdon,
Quebec, she was the daughter of Felix and Kate (McGovern) Hughes.
Mrs. French graduated from Notre

Erin Honora Hollinshead, Chateaugay, and a grandson, Andrew French
Hollinshead, Latham.
Her husband, Edgar, died Dec. 8,
1999. An infant daughter, Janice Louise; a brother Chester, and a
sister Beatrice also died earlier.
A member of St. Joseph Church, Mrs.

and Miriam Sausville of Clifton Park, N.Y.; two granddaughters,
Patricia McDonald of Scotia, N.Y., Michele Sausville of Clifton Park,
N.Y.; one grandson, Paul Sausville of Albany, N.Y.; one
great-grandson, John McDonald of Scotia, N.Y.; one
great-granddaughter, Courtney McDonald of Scotia, N.Y.; one brother
and sister-in-law, Lester and Phoebe Sweatt of Essex, N.Y.; two
sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanche and Joseph Bruno of Willsboro,
N.Y., Dorothy and Herb Jacques of Willsboro, N.Y., and several nieces
and nephews.

Mary K. "Peg" West

— Mary K. "Peg" West, 79, of Patriot Drive and a former
resident of Chazy and Hyde Park, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at
Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.
She was born
in Speculator on Jan. 19, 1921, the daughter of Dexter and Amy
(Brooks) Slack.
Mary was
valedictorian of the graduating class of 1941 at Plattsburgh State,
the first class to be awarded the four year bachelor's degree.
She married
John West on Oct. 11, 1942, at Sacred Heart Church.
Mary taught
in Walton, Beekmantown Central School and Dutchess County BOCES in
Poughkeepsie. Mr. and Mrs. West returned to Plattsburgh in 1997.
Mary was a
communicant of St. Peter’s Church. She was a member of the Dutchess
County Retired Teachers Society, the Daughters of the American
Revolution, the Delta Kappa Gamma, the Alpha Zeta Chapter and the New
York State Special Education Inc.
Survivors
include her husband, John of Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law,
Paul and Elizabeth West of Chazy; six daughters and five sons-in-law,
Katherine West and Alan McKnight of Victor, Idaho, Mary and Webb
Leonard of Glenford, Linda Mayo of Staatsburg, Janet and Kevin Clerkin
of Parish, Jane and Sean Minotti of West Sand Lake and Pamela and
Bradley Gilbert of West Haverhill, N.H.; one sister, Dorothy Callan of
Stuyvesant; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was
predeceased by one brother, John Slack.
Calling hours
will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10
a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Burial will follow in the
parish cemetery.

Leo "Carl" Mathews
Jr.
Plattsburgh
— Leo "Carl" Mathews Jr., 68, of 34 Flynn Ave., died
Saturday, June 3, 2000, at the Clinton County Nursing Facility.
He was born
in Niagara Falls on July 31, 1931, the son of Leo C. and Evelyn
(Carroll) Mathews Sr.
He was a
member of Our Lady of Victory Church and a life member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 125 in Plattsburgh. Mr. Mathews was an Air Force
veteran of the Korean War. He attended Niagara University and later
graduated from Paul Smiths College in 1959.
Mr. Mathews
was a salesman for Dan Santa Chevrolet in Plattsburgh for several
years before becoming a corrections officer. He worked at several
correctional facilities in New York State before retiring from Clinton
Correctional Facility in 1979. In recent years Carl had been a
crossing guard at the corner of Monty and South Catherine Streets.
Survivors
include his companion, Pauline Booth; three sons, Craig Mathews and
Clark Mathews, both of Plattsburgh and Curtis Mathews of Mattydale;
one daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Cheryl) Wright of Rapid City, S.D.; one
brother, Patrick Mathews of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Mrs. Charles
(Joan) Lehmann of Lewiston; one granddaughter, Jensen Wright of Rapid
City; one aunt; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours
will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker
Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. and the VFW
service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 1
p.m. at OLV Church, followed by entombment in Whispering Maples
Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.
Donations in
his memory may be given to Hospice of the North Country.
Hazel P. Kahn
Plattsburgh
— Hazel P. Kahn, 90, of Dorchester Dr., died Saturday, June 3, 2000,
at her home.
She was born
in South Hero, Vt., on Sept. 20, 1909, the daughter of Charles and
Rose D. (Manor) Patno.
Hazel
attended public high schools in Plattsburgh and graduated from
Champlain Valley School of Nursing with a RN degree in nursing. She
later earned a bachelor degree in nursing at Russell Sage College in
Troy. Hazel served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II.
Hazel was
married to Col. Kenneth M. Kahn, M.D. He died in 1970.
Hazel is
survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial
service will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the United
Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. There will be a private committal
service at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of
flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the United Methodist
Church.
Arrangements
are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
Ruth H. Parks,
93, of Wolfe Way in Plattsburgh, died on Saturday, June 3, 2000, at
CVPH Medical Center.
She was born
in Alexandria on Oct. 22, 1906, the daughter of Reuben and Mae
(Countryman) Hinman.
