Robert "Bob" Squier
Plattsburgh — Robert
"Bob" Squier, 72, died on Thursday, June 1, 2000, at the
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Watertown on
March 2, 1928, the son of William and Henrietta (Charlebois) Squier.
Bob is survived by his wife,
the former Betty Sayward of Plattsburgh; two sons and two
daughters-in-law, Craig and Anita Squier of Plattsburgh and Michael
and Linda Squier of Barre, Vt.; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine
and David Thume of Altona;, two sisters and one brother-in-law, E. Ann
Squier of Syosset and Elizabeth and William Bacas of Glens Falls; six
grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Nathan, Gabriel, Elijah and Emily
Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews.
His sister, Marie Weidman,
died previously.
Bob lived most of his life in
Plattsburgh, attending St. John’s Academy and Plattsburgh State
University. All his working life he was in sales and marketing, first
with the California Oil Co., then Plattsburgh Electric and finally
with Cabot Corp., which sold out to NYCO.
Bob served as committee
chairman for Cub Scouts, scout master and committee chairman for Boy
Scouts, first aid instructor trainer, CPR instructor trainer and
safety services chairman for the Red Cross. He was the instructor for
emergency medical technician courses and later became head instructor
and program coordinator of EMT at Plattsburgh State. He was CPR
instructor trainer for the American Heart Association.
He was the co-sponsor in
establishing the Beartown Ski Patrol as part of the NSPS system,
served as assistant patrol leader at Beartown for several years,
served as patrol leader at Lowenburg ski area for three years, served
as assistant patrol leader at Moon Valley ski area and received
national appointment in NSPS. He served as assistant section chief,
was first aid and senior F.A. testing examiner for NSPS, eastern
region and served as national appointment selection committee for
NSPS.
He served as PTO president at
Beekmantown Central School and was the co-founder and vice-president
of the Beekmantown Booster Club. He held various offices in the
Plattsburgh Lions Club and was telethon chairman for two years. He was
a charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Cumberland Head, where
he held various offices and was Grand Knight for two years.
Bob was a Minister of
Communion and lector at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church and served on
the parish council for two years. He was a trainer for Eucharist
Ministers, lectors and altar servers and was instrumental in
establishing a retirement fund for Fr. Daniel Keefe.
He was active in numerous
fund raising activities with Make a Wish Foundation. Bob served on the
advisory board at Clinton County Nursing Home since November 1997. He
was the vice-president and was slated to become president in June
2000.
Calling hours will be Sunday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s
of the Lake Church in Cumberland Head. A private burial will follow in
the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations, in lieu
of flowers, may be made to St. Mary’s of the Lake Memorial Fund.
Edward A. McShane Jr.
Plattsburgh — Edward A.
McShane Jr., 83, of West Court Street, died on Thursday, June 1, 2000,
at his residence.
He was born in Brooklyn on
April 10, 1917, the son of Edward and Mary (Nolan) McShane. He married
Gladys Gilbert on Nov. 11, 1941, in Albany.
Mr. McShane was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church, where he was Deacon, Elder and Clerk of
Session. He was president of A.R.C. in Plattsburgh from 1976-1979,
vice-president of the Y.M.C.A. and vice-president of Mental
Retardation Services, Inc.
Mr. McShane was employed by
the FBI, U.S. Dept. of Justice from 1939 to 1977 in Albany, New York
City, Washington, D.C., Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas and San
Francisco, Calif.
From 1947 to 1950 he was
Special Agent In Charge in Plattsburgh and from 1950 to 1952
Administrative Assistant to Director J.E. Hoover in Washington,
returning to Plattsburgh as Special Agent In Charge from 1951 to 1977.
He was also the FBI’s liaison with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
and the Quebec Provincial Police.
Survivors include his wife,
Gladys of Plattsburgh; one son, Dr. Edward McShane and his wife Susan
of Charlottesville, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Carmen (Lois) DeChellis of
Peru; three brothers, Arthur McShane of Austin, Texas, Joseph McShane
and his wife Ruth of Hicksville and Thomas McShane and his wife Rita
of Westbury; four sisters, Mrs. Quentin (May) M. Garcia of Ridgewood,
N.J., Mrs. James (Bessie) V. Sullivan of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Alice
McShane of Stoneridge and Mrs. John (Margaret) R. Edwards Sr. of
Silver Spring, Md.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents; one brother,
Col. James E. McShane; and three sisters, Mrs. Regina Shaw, Mrs.
Catherine McLoughlin and Miss Agnes M. McShane predeceased him.
Calling hours will be held on
Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in
Chazy.

Marjorie M. Dintaman
Plattsburgh — Marjorie M.
Dintaman, 58, of Dale Avenue, died on Thursday, June 1, 2000, at the
Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt.
She was born in Plattsburgh
on June 22, 1941, the daughter of Bernard and Marie (Osher) Russell.
Marjorie was a member of Our
Lady of Victory Church and a former member of St. John’s Church. She
was active in the St. John’s RICA and was a Eucharistic Minister.
Marjorie also taught CCD on the Air Force Base. Marjorie was a
receptionist for Dr. Frank Passaro, retiring due to her illness.
Survivors include her
husband, Dana Dintaman of Plattsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law,
Cary and Siony Dintaman of Hawaii; one daughter and son-in-law, Dena
and Frederick Peters of Carthage; her father, Bernard Russell of
Plattsburgh; one sister, Paulette Marsteller of Plattsburgh; three
grandchildren, Mark Dintaman of Hawaii and James and Danielle Peters
of Carthage; one great-granddaughter, Marjorie Peters of Carthage; two
special nieces, Casey and Brandy Marsteller of Plattsburgh; and many
other nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on
Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. A Mass of
Christian burial will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory
Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Mary K. West,
79, of Patriot Drive in Plattsburgh, died on Friday, June 2, 2000, at
Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.
She was born in Speculator on
Jan. 19, 1921, the daughter of Dexter and Amy (Brook) Slack.

Joann C. Brewster,
41 of 81 River St. in Lake Placid, passed away on May 31, 2000, at the
home of her sister, Vicki Graham, also of Lake Placid.
She was born in Keene Valley
on Jan. 17, 1959.

Charles S. Volker
Seeley Lake,
Mont. — Charles S. Volker, 79, of Seeley Lake, Mont., passed away at
his home on Tuesday, May 30, 2000.
He is
survived by his family in Montana: his wife, June; his daughter, Karen
and Bill Fisher; his son, Jim and Lori Volker; and his grandchildren
Jessi Fisher and Allison and Derek Cochrell. He is also survived by
his family in New York: his brother, Jim Volker; his sister, June
LaDuke; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He is
preceded in death by his son, Thomas; his brother, Albert; his
sisters, Etta and Marie; and his favorite bulldog, Tippee.
Edward A.
McShane Jr., 83, of
West Court Street, died on Thursday, June 1, 2000, at his residence.
He was born
in Brooklyn on April 10, 1917, the son of Edward and Mary (Nolan)
McShane.

Beverly B.
Barney, 68, of Rt.
122 in Constable, died Thursday morning, June 1, 2000, at the Alice
Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since May
28.
Born in
Malone on June 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and
Margaret Boadway Bushey.
There are no
calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday
at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, with the Rev.
Garry Giroux officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis of Assisi
Cemetery.

graveside service for Joan L. Trombly, who died Jan. 8, 2000, will be

Ronald E. King
Plattsburgh
— Ronald E. King,
69, of Michaele Ave., died on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the CVPH
Medical Center.
He was born
in Schenectady on April 12, 1931, the son of Arthur and Rose (Dunn)
King.
He married
Betty Nephew in Plattsburgh on March 21, 1987.
Mr. King was
a member of St. Peter’s Church. He belonged to the AuSable Forks
American Legion Post 504 and the Keeseville Elks Club 2072.
Ronald loved
fishing and hunting and was an avid Yankee fan. He also loved all
sports and travel. Mr. King worked for Ahern Sheet Metal, retiring in
1991.
Survivors
include his wife, Betty; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kerry and
Linda King of Nassau and Shawn and Joanne King of Amsterdam; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Donald Leavitt of Stockbridge,
Ga. and Kristen and Charles Mauney of Stockbridge, Ga.; two stepsons
and their wives, Ross and Mary Dumas of Ellenburg and Terry and Carmal
Dumas of Ellenburg; two stepdaughters, Penny and her husband, Terry
Prentice of Plattsburgh and Susan LaDuke and her companion, Dave
Beaudrieau of Rouses Point; one brother, Arthur King and his
companion, Connie McIntosh of Gansevoort; one sister and her husband,
Ruth and Jerry Lyons of Fort Meyers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.

will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W.
Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. The AuSable Forks American Legion
will hold ritualistic services at 7 p.m. which will be followed by the
Keeseville Lodge of Elks at 7:15 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will
be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in
Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West
Chazy.

Rossie — H.
Irwin Nelson, age 81, of 84 S. Hammond Rd. in Rossie, died on Tuesday
morning at 11:30 a.m. at his home.
He was born
on Sept. 24, 1918, in Rossie, the son of Elvin and Flora Baldwin
Nelson.
He attended
school in Rossie.
He married
Barbara M. Stevenson on June 24, 1944, in Gouverneur. She died Aug.
20, 1994.
He owned and
operated a farm in Rossie for many years and held several jobs
following his retirement.
Surviving are
three daughters; Mrs. Curtis (Karen) VanTassel of Evans Mills, Mrs.
Murlyn "Butch" (Joan) Harris of Rossie and Mrs. Gregory
(Jacqueline) Bresett of Brushton; three grandsons; two granddaughters;
two brothers, Kenneth Nelson of Gouverneur and Delbert Nelson of
Hammond; and several nieces and nephews.
He is
predeceased by a brother, Ivan; and three sisters, Helen Simons,
Martha Jenne and Beatrice Nelson.
Calling hours
will be on Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at his home at 84 S. Hammond Rd.
in Rossie. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at his home,
with the Rev. Mario Gazzilli, pastor of the Dexter United Methodist
Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rossie.
Donations may
be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence County.

Gilbert J. Howard Jr.
Lewis —
Gilbert J. Howard Jr., 53, of the West Road in Lewis, died on Monday,
May 29, 2000, at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in
Plattsburgh.
He was born
on March 2, 1947, to Gilbert and Noda (Christian) Howard.
He was an
avid horseman and an outdoorsman. He was a member of the Draft Horse
Club.
He is
survived by his wife, Letty (Dickerson) Howard of Lewis; two sons,
Gilbert Howard III and Edmond Howard of Lewis; his mother, Noda Howard
of Essex; three sisters, Dorena Sayward of Willsboro, Stella Bashaw of
Lewis and Geraldine Denton of New Russia; and two brothers, George
Howard of Peru and Kenneth Howard of Elizabethtown.

Florence M.
Griffin, 95, of North Bangor, died early Tuesday morning, May 30,
2000, at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena. She had been a
resident there since Feb. 12, 1998.
Born in
Bangor on June 15, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Mose and
Mary Beane Mason.
Calling hours

in Malone. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in

Andrew M. Anderson
Port Henry
— Andrew M. Anderson, 73, of Henry Hill Road in Port Henry, died
Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington,
Vt.
He was born
in Whitehall on Aug. 28, 1926, the son of the late Maurice and Lula
(Moore) Anderson.
He retired
from Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Mass., in 1965 and then
returned to Port Henry, where he owned and operated a machine shop. He
was a member and past master of Morning Sun Lodge 142 F&AM in
Mineville, a member of Allepo Unit of Shriners in Troy and BPOE Elks
Lodge 1494 in Ticonderoga. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II,
having served in the Pacific.
He is
survived by his wife, Marjorie (Phinney) Anderson; four daughters and
sons-in-law, Cathi and Joseph O'Connor, Amy and Ray Collupy, Cindy and
Thomas Delcamp and Cheryl and Christopher Nee; one son and
daughter-in-law, David and Kathleen Anderson; a brother, Willard
Anderson; a sister, Nancy Abbey; ten grandchildren, Cpl. Shawn
O'Connor, USMC, Brian Collupy, Amy Beth Collupy, Christine Delcamp,
Naura Delcamp, Andrew Anderson, Thomas Anderson, Haley Anderson,
Caitlin Nee and William Nee; and one great-grandchild, Brittany Fulti.

will be Tuesday, May 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland
Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be conducted on
Wednesday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in

Joseph Felix Rudmin, M.D.
Rumney, N.H.
— Joseph Felix Rudmin, M.D., 92, died peacefully of old age on May
26, 2000, at the Log Cabin Comfort residential care home in Rumney,
N.H., with his daughter Lynn Chong at his side.
He was born
on Nov. 13, 1907, in Irvington, N.J., the third child of Ludwika
(Kuna) and Nikodimas Rudminas. His siblings were Anthony, Genevieve
and Mary.
He graduated
from public school in Irvington, learning the printing trade in
vocational programs.
From 1926 to
1930, he was a journeyman printer and sports editor for the lrvington
Herald. Unemployed by the Great Depression, he entered Cornell
University in 1930, earning his way as a waiter, printer, golf caddie
and ROTC officer. He graduated in 1934. With generous financial
support from Columbia University, for which he was forever grateful,
he completed medical studies at their College of Physicians and
Surgeons in 1938. He earned a masters of public health from Johns
Hopkins University in 1951.
He married
Josephine Luella Webster on Feb. 8, 1939. They opened a general
medical practice in Montclair, N.J. In 1940, Joe and Jo returned to
her hometown of Port Leyden, where they started their family. He
maintained a general practice there until 1950. He was health
commissioner for Cortland County from 1951 to 1958 and for Clinton
County from 1959 until his retirement in 1972.
Among his
many interests were gardening and horticulture, furniture restoration,
stereophotography, camping with his family, book collecting, Rotary
International and later, square dancing and round dancing with his
beloved wife, Josephine.
After
Josephine's death in 1994, Dr. Rudmin resided with his daughter Norma
in South Berwick, Maine and then with his daughter Lynn in Rumney.
Dr. Rudmin's
immediate survivors are his sister, Mary (Mae) Soper of Pompano Beach,
Fla., and his six children and their families. His daughters are Norma
Keim of South Berwick, Lynn Chong of Rumney and Susan Letourneau of
South Burlington, Vt. His three sons are Joseph W. Rudmin of
Harrisonburg, Va., Floyd Rudmin of Kingston, Ontario, and Gerrard
Rudmin of Dexter, Maine. Grandchildren are Anna and Raina Keim,
Joseph, Michael, John and David Rudmin, Geneva and Marcy Chong,
Katrina, Christopher and Daniel Rudmin, Rachael Levine Lambrecht and
Steven Levine and William, Hans and Thomas Rudmin. Great-grandchildren
are Hannah and Allison Lambrecht and Gaudeor Rudmin. Dr. Rudmin is
also remembered by many loved in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended
family members.
Calling hours
and a brief memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 1, from 5
to 7 p.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. Family and
friends will gather at the Royal Savage restaurant following the
service. Burial will be in Port Leyden in July.
In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the
West Rumney Community Church Building Fund, c/o Ida Hutchins,
Dorchester, NH 03266, to the Port Leyden Cemetery Association, P.O.
Box 218, Port Leyden, NY 13433, or to the book fund of the Baker

Barry F.
Merritt, 53, of
Lambda Drive in El Paso, Texas, and formerly of Malone, died
unexpectedly on May 26, 2000, in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was born
in Ogdensburg on Jan. 2, 1947, the son of the late Harold
"Sy" and Robena (Ackerman) Merritt.
There are no
calling hours. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience
of the family.

Isadore O.
"Ted" Gebo,
of Saranac Lake, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at Uihlein Mercy Center in
Lake Placid.
He was born
Aug. 6, 1907, in Morrisonville.

Richard A. Knight
Peru —
Richard A. Knight, 57, of the Lake Shore Road and Montreal, died on
Friday, May 26, 2000, at his home after a short but courageous battle
with lung cancer.
He was born
in Utica on March 9, 1943, the son of Robert J. Knight and Helen G.
Turner.
He first
developed an interest in hunting, fishing and the outdoors while
growing up in Evans Mills, where he also met his future wife, Mary
Stapleton of Syracuse. They were married on Oct. 2, 1962 and divorced
in 1984.
He served in
the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1962 and was stationed in Alaska,
Colorado and other western states. He received an associates degree
from Jefferson Community College in Watertown.
Mr. Knight
moved to Plattsburgh in 1981. He was the owner of Knight
Cadillac-Oldsmobile GMC in Plattsburgh. He also owned Knight Acura in
Burlington, Vt. He established a second residence in Montreal in 1992,
a city he thoroughly enjoyed and considered home.
Early in his
adult life, he was a devoted and gifted amateur photographer. He was
an avid outdoorsman and animal lover and instilled his appreciation
for nature and animals in his children. One of his favorite pastimes
was feeding the birds, squirrels and other "critters" on his
property. He was a lively and generous patron at Anthony’s
Restaurant in Plattsburgh and Weinstein’s and Gravino’s in
Montreal, where he developed many lasting friendships and
acquaintances. His presence will be greatly missed.
Mr. Knight is
survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard Knight Jr. and his
wife Jannette of Peru; one daughter, Gwendolyn "Wendy"
Knight of Ferrisburgh, Vt.; his ex-wife, Mary Francey of Dewitt; his
mother and step-father, Helen and Edward Heiland of Fort Myers, Fla.;
his father, Robert J. Knight of Utica; one brother, Robert Havens of
San Francisco, Calif.; one half-brother, Robert Knight of Canaserega;
one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Donald Maston of Livonia,
Mich.; one half-sister, Kathy Visalli of Utica; one step-sister,
Patricia Spears of Nantucket, Conn.; four grandchildren, Christian
Knight, Cassandra Knight and Patrick Knight, all of Peru and Alexandra
Haesler of Ferrisburgh, Vt.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and
friends.
There will be
no public calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on
Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home on Lake Shore Road.
Donations in
his memory may be made to Hospice Care of the North Country, the
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan or to the Humane
Society of Clinton County.

Grant J. Villemaire
Chazy —
Grant J. Villemaire, 67, of 21 Bison St., died Saturday, May 27, 2000,
at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born
in Rutland, Vt., on Dec. 6, 1932, the son of Grant J. and Jessie M.
(Underwood) Villemaire.
Mr.
Villemaire attended Center Rutland Elementary School in Center
Rutland, Vt., then Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Rutland, Vt., and
then Castleton State College in Castleton, Vt. He received his masters
degree from Plattsburgh State University.
He was
commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1954, completed flight
training and received his naval aviator wings in 1955, served one tour
of duty in Vietnam and retired after 20 years as a lieutenant
commander on Sept. 1, 1974.
Mr.
Villemaire was employed for 20 years by the New York State Public
School System, primarily at the Chazy Central Rural School.
Mr.
Villemaire married Alberdina te Riele on Feb. 23, 1957, at St. Mary’s
Church in Ticonderoga. He was active in his parish as a communicant
and a Eucharistic Minister of Sacred Heart Church in Chazy.
In his
retirement years he enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing golf and

Survivors
include his wife of 43 years, Alberdina of Chazy; two sons and one
daughter-in-law, Vincent Villemaire of East Meadow, Long Island and
Blair and Kim Villemaire of Chazy; two daughters and sons-in-law,
Michelle and Mark Culver of Johnsonville and Nicole and James Lundy of
Essex Junction, Vt.; one sister, Betty Taylor of Center Rutland, Vt.;
and seven grandchildren, Gregory and Meghann Lundy, Wesley, Caitlin
and Haley Culver and Kallie and Kirsten Villemaire.
Calling hours
will be held on Monday, May 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian
burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church
in Chazy.
