Gertrude H. Rusterholtz

Plattsburgh — Gertrude H. Rusterholtz, age 87, formerly of 84 Beekman St., died May 25, 2000, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 13, 1912, in Steamburg, the daughter of Martin F. and Cora (Bannon) Hayes. Her husband, John H. Rusterholtz, died in December 1956.

Mrs. Rusterholtz came to Plattsburgh in 1947 to be the Campus School psychologist at Plattsburgh State University of New York. She retired in January 1968. She had attended Fredonia Normal School and Buffalo State University, where she received her bachelor of science degree and Syracuse University, where she received her master of arts in clinical psychology. She was a licensed New York State clinical psychologist. After retiring from the college she continued to assist in neighboring schools.

Survivors include a niece, Sue Hilger of Wayne, Pa.; a nephew, James Macklem of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; four great-nephews; one great-niece; a great-great-nephew; and two great-great-nieces.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John’s Church Tuesday, May 31, 2000, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Randolph.

Memorial donations may be made to the Plattsburgh College Foundation, St. John’s Memorial Fund or a charity of one’s choice.

Adams M. Chase

Chateaugay Lake — Adams M. Chase, 81, formerly of Chateaugay Lake, who was residing at the Mitchell House at Burke Adult Center Housing, died on Friday, May 26, 2000, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.

Born in Chateaugay on April 25, 1919, he was the son of A. Millar and Louise (Adams) Chase.

He was married to the former Jean Scott on March 8, 1952, in the Methodist Church in Plattsburgh. She predeceased him on Oct. 14, 1990.

Mr. Chase is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stewart and Murri Chase of Chateaugay Lake and Stephen and Terri Chase of Essex Junction, Vt.; three grandchildren, Andrew Chase and Megan and Meredith Chase; and a sister-in-law, Betty Chase of Chateaugay Lake.

Those that preceded in death, besides his wife, were his twin brother, Oscar Chase, on Sept. 20, 1989 and a sister, Pauline Chase, on April 4, 1996.

The Chase family moved from "Chase Hollow" in Chateaugay to the Banner House in Chateaugay Lake, which is now in the fourth generation, operated by Adams’ son Stewart and Murri his daughter-in-law.

Adams’ first job was at the Lake Placid Club. He was then employed by Republic Steel for four years. He was also employed by Chateaugay High School for two years. Adams then went to work for Montgomery Ward in Plattsburgh, where he became manager of the plumbing department. Moving into the new store, he was a salesman in the lawn and garden department.

A long time Democrat, Mr. Chase was elected supervisor in the town of Bellmont in the late 1940’s. His memberships included the Brainardsville United Methodist Church and Frontier Lodge 517 F & A Masons in Chateaugay. He was a past Master.

Funeral services will be on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. in Brainardsville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Eleanor Bellows officiating. Burial will take place at Brainardsville Cemetery in Brainardsville.

Donations in his memory may be made to Burke Adult Center or Brainardsville United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home in Chateaugay.

Gerald F. Boyea

Champlain — Gerald F. Boyea, 62, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Ellenburg Center on April 19, 1938, the son of Fred and Gladys (Cook) Boyea.

He was employed by the Clinton County Highway Department for several years and enjoyed bingo, woodworking and working on cars.

He is survived by two daughters, Theresa Boyea of Warren, Pa. and Penny Boyea of Niagara Falls; a brother, Irving Boyea of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Ethel Dupree of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Marcel (Alice) DeCoste of Mooers Forks; two grandchildren, Lacie Boyea and Taylor Boyea-Hunt; and several nieces and nephews.

His wife, the former Margaret "Peggy" Oaks, died in 1991.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in St. Edmund’s Cemetery in Ellenburg.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad.

Shirley "Sally" Kent Gorton died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Sally was the wife of the late artist Rockwell Kent and the late John Gorton.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private.

The Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard A. Knight, 57, of the Lake Shore Road and Montreal, died on Friday, May 26, 2000, at his residence.

He was born in Utica on March 9, 1943, the son of Robert J. and Helen G. (Turner) Knight.

Shirley A. Demarais

Lyon Mountain — Shirley A. Demarais, 62, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, after a long illness, at the home of her daughter Cheryl Daley, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lyon Mountain on July 8, 1937, the daughter of Nelson and Rose (Prespare) Charland.

She was employed as a ward clerk at the CVPH Medical Center for over 16 years. She was a member of St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg and St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain. She was a member of the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Lyon Mountain.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Floyd Demarais Sr. of Ellenburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Bruce Daley of Altona; two sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Robin Demarais Jr. of Ellenburg and James and Annette Demarais of Altona; three sisters, Valeda Benjamin of Lyon Mountain, Loretta Smith of Lake Placid and Ethel and Frank Lamere of Millerton; a brother, Harold Charland of Lake Placid; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Sean Daley of Altona, Deborah and Kyle Demarais of Ellenburg and Justin, Jonathan and Joshua Demarais of Altona; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by eight brothers, Willard, Floyd, Leo, Richard, Leon, Arnold, Ronald and Henry Charland; and two sisters, Rose Kavanaugh and Evelyn Jackson.

Calling hours will he held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday from St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain. Burial will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Alexander J. Turbide

Canton — Alexander J. Turbide, 97, formerly of Plattsburgh, died May 25, 2000, at the United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton.

He was born May 13, 1903, in Montreal, PQ, Canada, the son of Edward Turbide and Marie Louise Lecuyer.

Mr. Turbide attended schools in Ste. Therese, Quebec. He worked for a period of time in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, Canada, where he was employed at the Harry Best ranch in Rockyford, Alberta.

He moved to Plattsburgh in 1925, was employed by the Plattsburgh Traction Company and was probably the last living employee of that company. Mr. Turbide then worked for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad until 1942. He was a member of the fire department on the old military post in Plattsburgh, while Champlain College was using the facilities.

Mr. Turbide joined Carpenter's Union Local 1042 in 1946 and was eventually elected its business agent. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1968. He recently celebrated 50 continuous years as a member of his union local.

He married the former Mabel Parrotte of Plattsburgh on Sept. 15, 1929, in Our Lady of Victory Church. The couple lived on Monty Street in Plattsburgh for most of their married lives. They spent their weekends and summers at their camp in Loon Lake. Mr. & Mrs. Turbide were avid antique collectors and frequented many local auctions. Mrs. Turbide died on May 26, 1987. Mr. Turbide moved to Canton in 1993.

Mr. Turbide is survived by a son, Ronald and his wife Shirley of Canton; a grandson, Andre Turbide of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Francois Turbide of Ste. Therese, Quebec; and many nieces and nephews.

Four brothers and two sisters predeceased him.

Mr. Turbide was a member of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Victory Church. He had been active in boy scouting and served as chairman of the Samuel de Champlain District of the Adirondack Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Turbide enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Loon Lake area of Franklin County and was a charter member and first president of the Bobcat Hunting Club in Loon Lake.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 26, 2000, at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Dora M. Donah

Plattsburgh — Dora M. Donah, 82, of Bart Merrill Road in Cadyville, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Lyon Mountain on Aug. 20, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Exilda (Cote) Donah.

Dora was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. She worked as a supervisor for the K-Mart Corporation for a number of years.

Dora is survived by a sister, Lillian Donah of Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh; a brother, Richard Donah of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Mrs Wilfred (Esther) Donah of Chazy Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by three brothers, Wilfred, Walter Jr. and Francis.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 26, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dannemora.

The family requests Masses to be offered in her memory.

Michael O. Conners

Constable — Michael 0. Conners, 78, of 112 Poplar St., died Wednesday, May 23, 2000, at his home.

Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Chasm Falls, he was the son of William and Rosalie Bouncier Connors. They predeceased him.

He married Frances "Pat" Fountain in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable. She predeceased him on May 6, 2000.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald and Brenda Connors of Burlington, Conn. and Ronald Connors of Constable; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jean Harrigan of Malone and Joan and Timothy Connell of Brunswick; two granddaughters, Terri Palma of Burlington, Conn. and Tracy Connors of Farmington, Conn.; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Lucas and Sydney Rose Palma, all of Burlington, Conn.; two sisters, Eileen LaVine of Malone and Iris Matthews of Kingman, Ariz; and also one brother, James Connors of Malone.

Besides his parents and wife three brothers predeceased him, William Connors, Alfred Connors and Arthur Connors.

He lived most of his life in Constable and attended schools in Chasm Falls. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served aboard a Navy mine-sweeper. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He later became employed by Alcoa in Massena and served with that firm for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable. He enjoyed reading, gardening and baseball.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 26, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A parish vigil service will take place Friday at 8 p.m., with Rev. James Lamitie presiding.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable, with Rev. James Lamitie officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Gerald F. Boyea, 62, of Champlain, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Evelyn Beshon, 93, of Honey Dr. in Plattsburgh, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Evelyn was born in Plattsburgh on May 2, 1907, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Thompson) Daniel.

Calling hours will be on Friday, May 26, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 1 p.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Kyle Jeffrey Wykes, the son of Michael and Julie Wykes of Port Henry, was born May 15, 2000, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, Vt.

Private services were held on May 19, 2000, from Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. Burial was May 19, 2000, at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moriah.

Dennis O. Lafontaine, 83, of Beekman St. in Plattsburgh, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Champlain. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in Champlain.

Arrangements are with the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru.

Ivan Cootware

Chazy — Ivan Cootware, 74, formerly living in Hudson, Fla., during the winter months and Port Henry during the summer months, died on May 3, 2000, in Albany Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He was born April 2, 1926, in Chazy, the son of William and Julia (LaPointe) Cootware.

Mr. Cootware attended school in Chazy. He served overseas in Central Europe during World War II. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal.

He was employed several years at Orange Motor Service as a mechanic in Albany. He also worked for C&R Railroad in Albany for 26 years, until his retirement.

Mr. Cootware will be missed and loved by his sister, Ruth Trombly of Chazy; a brother, Harold Cootware of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Arlene (Lord) Cootware; his son, Robert Cootware; his parents, William and Julia Cootware; two brothers, Dennis and William Cootware; and three sisters, Mable Goodrow, Josephine Gordon and Margaret Frihoffer.

Following cremation in Albany, memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy.

George Armstrong Coleman II

Schenectady — George A. Coleman II, died on Monday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

He was born in Boonton, N.J., on August 3, 1915.

He was a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., with a bachelor of science degree and attended Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

George was a veteran serving in the 14th Armored Division in France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of Masters Lodge 5 F&AM and was a Past Master.

He joined the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company in 1937. He retired from Key Bank as regional vice president in October 1981.

He was the husband of Ruth Crounse Coleman; father of Carol Lynn Coleman and Niskayuna and Susan Smith of Golden, Colo.; grandfather of William A. Morris III of Fairbanks, Alaska, Nathaniel A. Lancione and Nicholas Coleman Lancione, Niskayuna, Deanna and Ashley Smith of Golden, Colo; and brother of Cecelia McGrath of Madison, N.J.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Tebbutt Funeral Home at 633 Central Avenue in Albany. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Hazel D. LaDuke

Lyon Mountain — Hazel D. LaDuke, 80, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Plattsburgh on June 8, 1919, the daughter of Peter M. and Jennie A (Wells) Daniels.

She worked for the Board of Elections Republican Committe for 25 years and was employed as a food service worker at P.S.U.C. for Marriott. She also was a teacher’s aide at Northern Adirondack Central School. And she was a child care provider for many years.

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain, a member of the Court Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Daughters of America and a Past Grand Regent. She was a member of the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Ladies Auxillary and a past member of the Lyon Mountain Fire Department Ladies Auxillary.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William P. and Barbara LaDuke of Lyon Mountain; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary and Jack Denton of Scottsdale, Ariz., Barbara and Alvin Thompson of Plattsburgh, Jane Kowalowski and Steve Barrett of Plattsburgh and Sally Staves and her daughter Katrina Staves of Plattsburgh; a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Betty Daniels of Peru; her grandchildren, Lisa Davison and Dean Denton of Arizona, Gwen McCormick of Plattsburgh, Angela Andrews of Burlington, Vt., Kristie Clark of Macedon, Katrina Staves of Plattsburgh and Jeremy and Ryan LaDuke of Lyon Mountain; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Wilfred C. LaDuke, died on Dec. 15, 1996. A sister, Irene Baker Bushey, also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday from St. Bernard’s Church in Lyon Mountain. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the North Country or the Lyon Mountain Rescue Squad.

John Wayne Corneau, 54, of Phoenix, Ariz., died on Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the Phoenix Veterans Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1945, in Tupper Lake, the son of Francis and Dorothy (LaBarge) Corneau. He attended local schools, graduating from Tupper Lake High School in 1964.

A memorial Mass will he held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake at the convenience of the family.

The Richer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gladys Parmeter Hart, 90, of Arvada, Colo., and formerly of Malone, died Friday, April 24, 2000, in Colorado.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Morningside Cemetery in Malone.

Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

William G. Peters Jr. — Graveside services for William G. Peters Jr., who passed away on March 30, 2000, will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the family plot in the Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga. The Rev. Russell Bissell, pastor of the Hague Wesleyan Church, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

Lester D. Fenner I

Peru — Lester D. Fenner I, 78, of the Bear Swamp Road in Peru, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at his home, while under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Gouverneur on July 18, 1921, the son of Leslie and Lelia (Cole) Fenner.

Lester proudly served his country during World War II as a pilot. He retired from the Air Force following 27 years of service at the rank of major. He then settled in Peru.

Lester owned and operated the Arsenal Inn in Elizabethtown for a time and was a member of the local 106 operating engineers.

While serving in the military, he competed on baseball, hockey and bobsled teams. As the driver of the Air Force four-man bobsled team, he competed in many national and international events. In 1965, Les and a group of other bobsledders left for France. On the way there, they were invited and showcased on the Ed Sullivan Show. He and his team then went on to place third in the Worlds. In 1969, they set the world’s record for the fastest time at Mt. Hoevenberg.

Survivors include his wife, the former Beverly Burres of New Russia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lester D. II and Evelyn Fenner of Stony Point and Dorn B. and Mary Fenner of Chazy; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan R. and Jake Bell of Peru; and three grandsons, Sean Fenner, Jason Fenner and Stephen Jock.

There will be no calling hours.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country.

Donald "Pete" Moras

Guilderland Center — Donald "Pete" Moras, 85, of Main Street, died on Sunday, May 21, 2000, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

He was born on May 14, 1915, in Plattsburgh, the son of Harry and Annie (Hubbard) Moras.

Donald was a technician for Semon Bache & Company in New York City for 35 years before retiring.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson of Auburn, Mass. and Dorothy and Douglas Bailey of Guilderland Center; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother Ferdinand "Bud" Moras on May 17, 1991.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2000, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at noon at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Judy Wade

Morrisonville — Mrs. Judy Wade, 54, of Route 22B, died on Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Plattsburgh on April 2, 1946, the daughter of Harold and Doris Eva (Greeno) Ashline.

Judy enjoyed flower gardening, crafts and, most importantly, visiting with her family and friends. She was a communicant of St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Orlan Wade of Morrisonville; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard and Cynthia Wade of Orlando, Fla., Randy and Terrie Wade of Plattsburgh and Daniel and Monique Wade of Poinciana, Fla.; a daughter, Jennifer Wade of Morrisonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Elaine Ashline of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Audrey, Andrew, Benjamin, Ginger, Samantha and Joshua; sisters-in-law and their spouses, Virginia Dawalt, Helen and Robert Steele, Lucille and Luther Carrothers, all of Indiana and Roxie Wade of Florida; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Ashline; and a brother-in-law, Paul Wade.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

T. Edward Bombard

Keeseville — Thomas Edward Bombard, 79, of the Port Douglas Rd., died on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born April 24, 1921, at his family’s dairy farm in Port Douglas, where he was raised and farmed as a young boy. His parents, Leo LeRoy and Minnie (Jarvis) Bombard, have predeceased him in death.

He graduated from Keeseville High School in 1941.

He married the former Gladys Tellier, June 8, 1946, at St. John’s Church in Keeseville.

Ed was a retired cabinetmaker having worked for A. Mason and Sons for many years, then retiring from H.H.H.P. Builders in Willsboro.

For a time, he was also caretaker for Senator Eustis Paine in Willsboro.

Ed was a 3rd degree knight at the Keeseville Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St. John’s Church.

He enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Bombard of Keeseville; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Joan Bombard of Sloansville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Kevin Hughes of Ballston Spa and Jan and Craig Scholl of Keeseville; five grandchildren, Danielle and Jody Bombard, Jason and Kevin Hughes and Derek Scholl; and several brothers, sisters-in-law and cousins.

Arthur M. Bowen, 58, of 326 Main St., a resident of Lake Placid for 32 years, died suddenly at his home on Monday May 22, 2000.

He was born in Saranac Lake June 21, 1941, the son of Arthur H. and Florence (Rascoe) Bowen.

Friends may call at the CIark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be an American Legion prayer service at 8 p.m. The funeral services will be held at the St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid on Thursday morning at 11 a.m., the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery.

Hazel D. LaDuke, 80, of Lyon Mountain, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be heId at a time to be announced.

William Putnam Dunham

St. Huberts — William Putnam Dunham, 82, of Naples, Fla., East Orleans, Mass., and St. Huberts, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Naples.

He was born Dec. 16, 1917, in New York City, the son of Lawrence B. and Vryling (Putnam) Dunham.

Mr. Dunham attended the Riverdale Country School in Riverdale, the Rectory School in Pomfret, Conn., the Rumford School in Washington, Conn., and Columbia University, where lie was a member of Delta Psi. His studies were cut short when his National Guard Unit, Squadron A, 101st Cavalry, was mobilized in January 1941.

He was a member of the New York National Guard and served overseas in China and India for 39 months during World War II as a captain and liaison officer in the Chinese Combat Command.

After the war, Mr. Dunham was a district sales manager for the Stokey Van Camp Honor brand products, General Foods Corp., where he rose to group advertising manager. In 1964, he founded Dunham Luttmann O'Brien Inc. Marketing Consultants and served as its president.

He served as chairman of the Riverdale Community Planning Board for three terms, vice-chairman of the Riverdale Civil Defense Board and was a past councilman and deputy supervisor of the Town of New Castle for nine years.

Mr. Dunham was a member of the American Legion, Marcy Post; a past president and trustee of the Adirondack Mtn Reserve - AuSable Club; past president of the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society; the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks; a trustee of the Keene Valley Neighborhood House; the ALS Association (Orlando, Fla. chapter); St. Anthony Club-Delta Psi, NYC; member of the Board of Governors & Executive Committee Of the Squadron A Club, NYC; and the Riverdale Yacht Club.

Mr. Dunham will be missed and loved by his wife Edie; his children and their spouses, Sally Taylor, Bill and Nellie Dunham Jr., and Ann and Mike Hartson; his grandchildren, Kristen and Kevin Taylor, Henry and Melanie Dunham and Hilary and Brooke Hartson.

His daughter, Susan Hope Dunham, died in 1988.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Keene Valley Congregational Church. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery in Keene.

Memorial donations may be made to the Keene Valley Neighborhood House or the Adirondack Trail Improvement Society, both of Keene Valley.

Roswell A. "Bud" Brown

Plattsburgh — Mr. Roswell A. "Bud" Brown, 74, of Standish Street, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on May 1, 1926, the son of the late Arthur and Gladys (Desso) Brown.

Roswell had worked at the D&H Railroad, Red Star Express and retired in 1991 from the Plattsburgh City School District, where he had been a custodian. An avid exercise enthusiast, he was a life member of the Plattsburgh YMCA, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Keeseville Lodge 2072, the Loyal Order of Moose, Plattsburgh Lodge 2390 and the Peru Rod and Gun Club. Roswell was a member of St. Peter’s Church.

Roswell is survived by his wife of 33 years, Irene (Giovannangelo) Brown of Plattsburgh; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Grace and Todd Bechard of Plattsburg and Priscilla "Patty" and George Casab Jr. of Rochester; two grandsons, Michael and Nicholas Casab; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Connery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Robert S. Muschara

Plattsburgh — Mr. Robert S. Muschara, 60, of the Military Turnpike, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Harrisburg, Pa. on March 12, 1940, the son of the late Samuel and Nillie (Norton) Muschara.

Bob had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1962. He worked for WIRY and WEAV. Bob had been a emcee at the Grand Ole Opry and taught and recorded music. Bob was a lover of the great outdoors and enjoyed camping.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jennie (Robbins) Muschara of Plattsburgh; two sons and a daugther-in-law, Samuel and Tyra Muschara of St. George, Utah and Mark Muschara of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Mary Munroe and Iris Muschara, both of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Middie and Jean; five grandchildren, Bridgette, Richard, Crystal-Dawn, Devon and Briana; several nieces and nephews; and his "surrogate sons" Jason, Daniel, Manuel and Ben.

He was predeceased by sisters Adelta, Grace and brothers Frank and Fred.

There will be no calling hours. Following cremation, interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Port Allegany, Pa.

PLATTSBURGH — Lenora R. Hebert, 45, of Cedar Wood Lane, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 17, 1954, the daughter of Ernest and Florence (LeClaire) Martin.

Survivors include her companion, Robert Hackett of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Sherry Monette of Plattsburgh and Lynn Gregory of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Tyler Monette of Plattsburgh, Taylor Girard of Plattsburgh and Kaine Gregory of Plattsburgh; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ernest "Sonny" and Lucille Martin of Rouses Point, Clifford and Sarah Martin of Winter Garden, Fla., Raymond and Martha Martin of Groveland, Fla., and Edward Martin of Mooers; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Gerald (Blanche) Blake of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Thomas (Joanne) Shedrick of Alburg, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona.

Doyle Lacy Raffield

Dublin, GA — Doyle Lacy Raffield, 76, of Moore Station Road in Dublin, Ga., died on Saturday, May 20, 2000, at a hospital in Augusta, Ga.

He was a native of Wilkinson County, Ga., the son of the late Lacy Carlee and Ethel Virginia (Spears) Raffield.

He was a graduate of Dudley High School. He was a police officer in Dublin, Ga., East Dublin, Ga., and for 13 years with the Plattsburgh Police Department. He was an employee of the Laurens County Public Works. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a Mason. He was the widower of the late Marion DeLoach Raffield.

He is survived by his former wife, Aleata (Lee) Stemer of Dublin, Ga.; three daughters, Sharyn Lee Perry of Dublin, Ga., Gwendolyn Lacy Squires of Altamont and Cathy Jo Daniel of Duncanville, Texas; a son, Colin Kelly Raffield of Ledyard, Conn.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Gene Smith of Savannah, Ga.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, Ga. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Buford Raffield officiating.

Harold (Bucky) McGuinness

CROWN POINT — Harold (Bucky) McGuinness of Factoryville Road in Crown Point, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Moriah, the son of Harrison and Marie (Moses) McGuinness.

Harold worked for Republic Steel Corp. for several years. He owned and operated his own trucking company. He also worked on road construction.

He is survived by a son, Harold McGuinness of Crown Point; a sister, Judy Yergeau of Tacoma, Wash.; three brothers, George McGinness and his wife Betty of Madison, Maine, Marston (Tony) McGinness and his wife Betty of Schenectady and John McGinness and his wife Doris of Moriah; two grandsons, Scott McGuinness and his wife Tammy of Crown Point and Clifford McGuinness of Crown Point. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Perkins McGuinness; a brother, Marshall McGinness; and two sisters, Lillian Michiner and Iva Knapp.

Calling hours and funeral services were held Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, with Rev. Alice Hobbs officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Crown Point.

Gordon Silas Cross

Lewis — Gordon Silas Cross, 82, of Osawentha Drive, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

He was born in Lewis, on Sept. 2, 1918, the, son of Gordon and Iva (Crowningshield) Cross.

He was a member of the Lewis Fire Department and a past chief.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Lyman) Cross of Lewis; one daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Calvin LaFortune of Lewis; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Wanda Cross of Voorheesville and Greg Cross of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one sister, Betzy Muzzy of Burnt Hills; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Friend and Virginia Cross of Reber and David and Clair Cross of Cobleskill; eight grandchildren, Tammy Crowningshield of Peru, Pamala Blades and her companion Scott Buysse of Keene Valley, Melissa and John Pierce of Westport, Bambi and Rich Decker of Lewis, Peter and Amy Crowningshield of Crown Point, Corey and Sheri Cross of Colonie, Chad and Carrie Cross of Dayton Ohio, and Scott Cross of Peru; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lester A Fenner I

Peru — Lester D. Fenner I, 78, of the Bear Swamp Road in Peru, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at his home, while under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Gouverneur on July 18, 1921, the son of Leslie and Lelia (Cole) Fenner.

Lester proudly served his country during World War II as a pilot. He retired from the Air Force following 27 years of service at the rank of major. He then settled in Peru.

Lester owned and operated the Arsenal Inn in Elizabethtown for a time and was a member of the local 106 operating engineers.

While serving in the military, he competed on baseball, hockey and bobsled teams. As the driver of the Air Force four-man bobsled team, he competed in many national and international events. In 1965, Les and a group of other bobsledders left for France. On the way there, they were invited and showcased on the Ed Sullivan Show. He and his team then went on to place third in the Worlds. In 1969, they set the world’s record for the fastest time at Mt. Hoevenberg.

Survivors include his wife, the former Beverly Burres of Peru; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lester D. II and Evelyn Fenner of Stony Point and Dorn B. and Mary Fenner of Chazy; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan R. and Jake Bell of Peru; and three grandsons, Sean Fenner, Jason Fenner and Stephen Jock.

There will be no calling hours.

Elizabeth Donovan, 86, of Elm Street in Malone, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since July of 1998.

She was born in Malone on July 8, 1913, the daughter of William B. Donovan and Annie E. Finan.

William Levin Hickman

PERU — William Levin Hickman, 77, of Ormsby Circle, Peru, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Los Angeles, California, March 15, 1923, the son of James Elwood and Julia (Tomlinson) Hickman.

He served in the United States Army during WWII.

He married the former Novalee Elaine Masters. She died August 29, 1980.

Mr. Hickman was employed for many years as Senior Dispatcher with the Department of Water and Power in Los Angeles, California.

He was a member of the Master Gardeners Group.

Bill enjoyed traveling, gardening, and dining out.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Everett Foss of Belleville, Illinois, and Pamela and Gary Brunson of Warren, Michigan; three grandchildren, Randy and Keith Foss, and Aaron Brunson; and two special friends, Gail and Camille Morin of Peru.

There will be no calling hours.

Thyra B. Burrows

CROWN POINT — Thyra B. Burrows, 79, of Factoryville Road, Crown Point died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.

She was born in Feb. 3, 1921, in Crown Point, the daughter of Frank and Marion (Moore) Burns.

Mrs. Burrows was the librarian at the Hammond Library for 25 years. She was very active in town history, enjoyed geneology and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crown Point.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan and Richard Allen of Ticonderoga and Cynthia Burrows of Crown Point; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Burrows of Albany; one sister-in-law, Katherine Burns of Crown Point; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Burrows, and two sons, Bruce Burrows and Brent Burrows.

Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Alice Hobbs officiating.

Mrs. Marie E. Andrews

MORRISONVILLE — Mrs. Marie E. Andrews, 82, of Brookside Avenue passed into the arms of our Lord Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home after a long illness.

She was born in Morrisonville on Nov. 12, 1917, the daughter of the late Clayton and Isabelle Rock Sr.

Marie was a 1935 graduate of Morrisonville High School. She had made her home in Plattsburgh and moved to Detroit, Mich., during World War II, where she was employed by Chrysler Corp. on the B-24 Liberator Bomber assembly line — an original "Rosie the Riveter."

Marie and her husband, Walter, returned to Plattsburgh, where they owned and operated Johnny’s Diner on Broad Street. She and her husband returned to Detroit in 1953, retiring to Morrisonville in 1978.

Marie was an avid bowler and enjoyed crafts and playing cards. While living in Detroit, she was a longtime communicant of St. Suzanne’s Church, and she was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Treadwells Mills.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter Andrews of Morrisonville; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter Geary and Kay Andrews of Folsom, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Walter Dlugos of West Bloomfield, Mich.; two sisters, Alice Favro and Jennie LaPorte, both of Plattsburgh; a brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Janice Rock Jr. of Southboro, Mass.; four grandchildren, Lisa, Carrie, Diane and Scott; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Philip R. Hart

BEACON, N.Y. — Philip R. Hart of Beacon, a retired corrections officer for the Fishkill Correctional Facility and long-time resident of the area, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, in Albany Medical Center. He was 69.

The son of Elizabeth Roberts Hart and the late Philip J. Hart, he was born April 19, 1931, in Plattsburgh.

Mr. Hart was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of St. Rocco’s; Elks; and American Legion, all in Beacon.

He is survived at home by his wife, Genevieve M. Darrah Hart, whom he married Jan. 17, 1955, in St. John’s Church, Beacon; his mother, Elizabeth Hart of Plattsburgh; one son, Timothy Hart and his wife, Susan of Beacon; three daughters, Cynthia Papo and her husband, Michael and Noreen Hart, all of Beacon and Phylis Hodges and her husband, Stephen of Marlboro; two sisters, Jane Ann Oshier and her husband, Morris and Carol Hackett, all of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren, Brian and Michael Papo, Melissa Hodges and Matthew Hart; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow St., Beacon.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, in St. John’s Church, Beacon.

Burial will be in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, Beacon.
