Ruth E. Decker

Westport — Ruth E. Decker, 74, of the Stevenson Rd. in Westport, died on Friday, April 28, 2000, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1926, in Westport, the daughter of Moss and Celia (Pelky) Hammond.

A lifelong resident of Westport, she is survived by her husband, Earl Decker; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Decker of Mineville; three grandchildren, Eddie Decker, Donna Decker and Elizabeth Decker; three sisters, Hilda Smith of Westport, Grace Drummond of Essex and Lillian McConley of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Wadhams, the Rev. James Sorley officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Westport Ambulance Squad or the Westport SPCA Animal Shelter.

Stephen E. Sheffield, 64, of Hill St. in Keeseville, died on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru.

Chester G. Thew

Harkness — Chester G. Thew, 81, of the Fred Thew Rd., died on Friday, April 28, 2000, at his home.

He was born in Peru on Aug. 7, 1918, the son of Fred A. and Catherine (Signor) Thew.

He married the former Marion McCormick on Oct. 10, 1944.

Chet was a local dairy farmer for many years. He was a charter member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072. He enjoyed his family and his work.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Thew; five daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and John Ryan of Peru, Janice and Richard Kennedy of Peru, Gail and Thomas LaDuke of Voorheesville, Charis and Richard Duffina of Peru and Brenda and Randy Gushlaw of Morrisonville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Susan Thew of Peru and Scott and Nancy Thew of Peru; one sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Joe Morrow of Peru; 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Viola Felio on Feb. 20, 1999; and his twin brother, Lester E. Thew on June 28, 1999.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072 will meet Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Harkness United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Campbell C. Laker, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the West Peru Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the West Peru Cemetery Association.

Stephen E. Sheffield

Keeseville — Stephen E. Sheffield, 64, of Hill St. in Keeseville, died on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in AuSable Forks on April 22, 1936, the son of Eugene and Valda (Booth) Sheffield.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1957.

He married the former Theresa Duprey on July 14, 1979, at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru.

He was a truck driver for Bezio’s in Keeseville and AmeriGas. At an earlier date, he was employed with the Town of AuSable. He enjoyed woodworking and playing bingo.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Sheffield; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Dean Holdridge of Bristol, Conn.; one son, Randy, and his fiance, Michelle Ryan, also of Bristol Conn.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ginger and Eli LaDuke of Florida, Verna and Wesley Sheldrake of AuSable Forks, Laura and P.J. Beattie of AuSable Forks and Faye and Mike Fitzgerald of Peru; one brother and sister-in-law, Vic and Sue Sheffield of Keeseville; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 2000, at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru, with Rev. Vicente Jasmines, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

John G. Bradley

Morrisonviille — John G. Bradley, 49, died on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 13, 1950, the son of Norris and Mary (Caron) Bradley.

John was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp, serving two tours in Vietnam. He worked for several years at Imperial Paper and then became a corrections officer, presently working at Upstate Correctional Facility in Malone. Mr. Bradley was a member of the New York State Corrections Officers Police Benevolent Association.

He is survived by his wife, the former Cheryl Gilman of Morrisonville; one daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Timothy Warren of Binghamton; one son, John G. Bradley of Plattsburgh; his mother, Mary Bradley of Plattsburgh; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Roy and Lena Bradley of Morrisonville, Miles Bradley of Plattsburgh and Sam Bradley; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jane and Norman Defayette of Morrisonville, Sandra and William Griffin of Morrisonville and Sarah Bush; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Norris Bradley Sr.; and two brothers, Norris Bradley Jr. and Gordon Bradley.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow at St. Alexander’s Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Anna Kowalowski

Lyon Mountain — Anna Kowalowski, 78, of First St. in Lyon Mountain, died on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, where she had been a patient since April 9.

Born in Malone on Jan. 31, 1922, she was the daughter of Frank and Jennie Urban.

She was married to John Kowalowski on Dec. 30, 1940, in St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Witherbee.

Mrs. Kowalowski was a wonderful wife of 59 years, mother and grandmother. She was a cook and housekeeper for Father Walsh, the priest at Clinton County Correctional Facility and later a cook and housekeeper for Eugene LaFave, the warden at Clinton Correctional Facility, retiring from that position. Mrs. Kowalowski cooked for banquets, weddings and many parties at the American Legion in Lyon Mountain and the Knights of Columbus in Plattsburgh and Dannemora.

She was a member and officer in the Lyon Mountain Legion Auxilliary, the Lyon Mountain Firemen’s Auxiliary, the Lyon Mountain Senior Citizen’s and Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Daughter’s. She served as president in all of these organizations.

She and her husband loved going to bingo and baseball games to watch their sons play on the Lyon Mountain Miner’s team. Their house was always full of family and friends on every holiday.

Mrs. Kowalowski is survived by her husband, John; one daughter, Theresa Scott of Malone; five sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Donna Kowalowski of Lyon Mountain, Tony and Linda D. Kowalowski of Plattsburgh, Jim and Linda L. Kowalowski of Lyon Mountain, Charlie and Sandra Kowalowski of Plattsburgh and Peter and Laurie Kowalowski of Saranac; 15 grandchildren, Tommy Jr., Jerry, Tammie, Jim Jr, Rachael, Joe, Kate, Nancy, Laura, Michael, Jullian, Kyle, Kody Kowalowski, Meagan and Nicole Scott; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Music Fitzgerald of West Port.

She was predeceased by five brothers; Mickey Music, Walter Music, Frankie Urban Jr., Tony Urban and Joe Urban; a son-in-law, Richard Scott; and a sister, Kathrine Wojciakiewicz.

The family will receive friends and family at Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Sunday, April 30 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2000, in St. Bernard’s Church, with Msgr. Bernard Christman officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Lyon Mountain.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Lyon Mountain Fire Department & Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are through the Chateaugay Funeral Home in Chateaugay.

Ruth M. Recore, 73, of the Franklin County Nursing Home, died on Friday, April 28, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

Born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Conifer, she was the daughter of Homer and Cora Abare Smith.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 30, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2000, in St. John Bosco Church, with the Rev. Thomas Moody officiating. Burial will take place in St. John Bosco Cemetery.

Leonard A. Barnes

Chateaugay — Leonard A. Barnes, 74, of Chateaugay, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Chateaugay on Oct. 3, 1925, he was the son of Verdon and Blanche (Perry) Barnes.

He was married to the former Margaret Jarvie on Aug. 19, 1950.

Mr. Barnes attended Chateaugay High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. In his working years, he was employed by Alcoa in Massena, Republic Steel in Lyon Mountain and IBEW Local Union 1249. He also ran the family dairy farm in Chateaugay.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 49 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Kevin Walton of Lorraine; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Barnes and Kimberly Bouvier-Barnes of Plattsburgh; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Gary Lagasse of Ellenburg Center and Freda Tucker of Lake Luzern; a brother, Howard Barnes of Malone; and three grandchildren, Tammy Walton of Lorraine, Tony Walton of Dannemora and Abby Barnes of Plattsburgh.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Eldon Barnes; and a sister, Patricia Barnes.

Visitation will be at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Saturday, April 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the Chateaugay Funeral Home. The Rev. Eleanor Bellows of the Chateaugay United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will take place at Eastside Cemetery in Chateaugay.

Bonner — Philip R. Bonner, died on March 30, 2000, in Spring Hill, Fla. A memorial service is to be held on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 1 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru.

Ives — Graveside services for Mary E. Ives, who passed away on March 2, 2000, will take place at the family plot in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery in Ticonderoga on Saturday, April 29, 2000, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.

Cecile Hoffer, 89, formerly of 20 Church St. in Saranac Lake, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake.

She was born on Nov. 15, 1910, in Tupper Lake.

Elizabeth M. Herwerth Baierlein, 91, of Kinder Drive in Kinderhook, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Barnwell Health Facilities in Valatie.

She was born on June 19, 1908, in Keeseville.

Calling hours will on Saturday, April 29, 2000, at 9 a.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home in Valatie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Church on Route 9 in Valatie. Anna T. Smith, 94, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2000, in San Diego, Calif.

She was born on Dec. 6, 1905, in Brooklyn and lived in Willsboro from 1951 to 1969.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bedford, Va.

Margaret E. Buckley, 71, formerly of Rainbow Lake Rd. in Gabriels, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake.

She was born on June 17, 1928, in Alderbrook.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. Burial will follow in Brighton Cemetery in Gabriels.

Hazel Cecile Stacy

Belchertown, Mass. — Hazel Cecile Stacy, 81, of Chauncey Walker Street, died on April 24, 2000, at her home.

She was born in Burlington, Vt., on June 14, 1918, the daughter of the late George and Josephine (Jarvis) Steady.

She was a nurses aid at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh during the 1940’s, relocating to Springfield, Mass., in 1949.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Stacy, whom she married on Nov. 28, 1936, at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh; two daughters and one son-in-law, Caroline and Robert Riley of New Port Richey, Fla. and Joyce Dzwonkus of Belchertown, Mass.; two sisters, Constance Stacy of Plattsburgh and Joan Richard of Turners Falls, Mass.; three brothers, Bernard and Linda Steady of Morrisonville, Leo and Dana Steady of Dover, Del. and Kenneth and Ellie Steady of Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christine Gauthier, Matthew Gauthier, Peter Gauthier and Stacey Barber; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and George Steady.

Vale E. Boyle

Port Henry — Vale E. Boyle, 62, of Port Henry and Tucson, Ariz., died on Monday, April 24, 2000, at the Community Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Vale was born in Essex on June 5, 1937, the son of Philip and Helen (Gillette) Boyle.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1974 with the rank of master sargent, having served during both the Korean conflict and the Viet Nam war.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Boyle of Port Henry; his longtime companion, Pat Faltin of Tucson, Ariz.; his sister, Deborah Clark of Edwards; his brother, Kenneth Boyle of Saranac Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Philip Boyle; his sister, Phyllis (Ryan) Lamotte; and his brother, Leonard Boyle.

Calling hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Merris R. Calhoun

Bradenton, Fla. — Mrs. Merris R. Calhoun, 92, of Bradenton, Fla., died on Tuesday, April 25, 2000.

Mrs. Calhoun was born on March 11, 1908, in West Chazy. She was a homemaker and moved to Bradenton, Fla., from Pittsfield, Mass., in 1957.

She was a member of the Gray Ladies of the American Red Cross during World War II and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Fla.

She is survived by her daughter, Kenya C. Smith of Dalton, Mass.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Fla. There will be no calling hours or graveside service.

Raymond F. Lester, 75, of Gabriels, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home.

He was born on May 5, 1924, in Gabriels.

Marjorie H. Reed

Keene — Marjorie H. Reed, 76, of 1 Lakewood Drive, formerly of Keene, died on Monday, April 24, 2000, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1923, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Theodore and Ella (St. Louis) Stay.

She was a longtime member of St. Brendan’s Church in Keene and also of the Altar Rosary Society.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leonard R. Reed of Wilmington and LeRoy E. and Linda Reed of South Glens Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine M. and Clarence Oliver of Willsboro and Louise and Tommy Surber of Youngstown, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Anne Stay of St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Ella and Herb Recore of West Plattsburgh; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Reed; three brothers, Andrew, Kenneth and Donald Stay; one sister, Marie Dandrow; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Reed.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Keene. Burial will follow at Norton Cemetery in Keene.

Dr. H. Wyatt Laws

Florida Keys — Dr. H. Wyatt Laws died at his home in the Florida Keys on April 22, 2000.

He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, on June 23, 1914.

He graduated from McGill University in Montreal in 1940 and completed his residencies at New York Eye and Ear and Manhattan Eye and Ear in New York City. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II until 1946. He then established his ophthalmology practice in Montreal. He was attending at Royal Victoria Hospital, General Hospital and Childrens’ Hospital in Montreal until 1971 when he came to Plattsburgh. He retired here in 1978. However, after he retired he continued to see some of his regular patients during the summer at Dr. Dahlen’s office.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; and a daughter, Wendy Riggs, and her husband, Robert, and their two daughters, Jennifer and Sarah.

Interment will be at a later date at the Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Canada.

Preston Gordon Miller

Ellenburg Depot — Preston Gordon Miller, 80, died on Monday at his home in North Bangor.

Born in Ellenburg Depot on Oct. 8, 1919, he was the son of Gordon R. and Margaret Silver Miller. On Sept. 15, 1948, he married Marjorie Schweitzer in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He graduated from Ellenburg High School. Following graduation, he operated the family farm and then became sales manager for Fournier Motors in Massena. Following this, he was the sales representative for the Ralston Purina Company and was employed by them until an injuryforced his retirement. Fifteen years ago he become the director of the Franklin County Literacy Volunteers and held that position at the time of his death.

Mr. Miller was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Malone. He was a member of the Malone Kiwanis Club, a member and past director and treasurer of the Franklin County Agricultural Society and a member of American Legion Post 219. He was a former member of North Bangor Lodge F&AM, the Stony Brook Hunting Club and the Community Action Board. Mr. Miller was also a founding member of the Tri County Crises Center, a founder of the Farmers’ Market in Malone and recipient of the Franklin County Bar Association’s Liberty Bell award and the Master Gardener award from Cornell University.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Colin and Kathy Miller of North Bangor and Scott and Deborah Miller of Malone; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Miller and Jane and Dennis Arseneault, both of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Joshua and Ryan Miller and Nathan Arseneault; three brothers, Marvin of Florida, Ronald of Massena and Neal of Canton; one sister, Mrs. Rita Yaddow of Moira; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for friends and family will be on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Spaulding Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cburch at 11 a.m., the Rev. Thomas Gwinn presiding. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Cemetery in Ellenburg.

Memorial donations may be given to Literacy Volunteers, Box 427, Malone or the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church Youth Group.

John (Pop) Douglass

Au Sable Forks — John (Pop) Douglass, 86, of Palmer Street in AuSable Forks died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born Dec. 14, 1913, in Black Brook, the son of John W. Douglass and Dora (LaValley) Douglass.

He was employed at the J&J Rogers Company in AuSable Forks until its closing. He was then employed by Rushia Construction Company and Tetrault Construction Company.

He was a member of Holy Name Church and the Knights of Columbus of AuSable Forks. He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved his grandchildren.

Pop is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James T. and Jackie Douglass and grandson Connor Douglass; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie and Robyn Douglass, Janine and David Hackett and Jon Douglass and their mother, Jeannie Matyas; five great-grandchildren, Troy Douglass Hackett, Jaime Rose Douglass, Josh Douglass, Brody Douglass and Bryce Douglass; and two stepgrandchildren, Andrea and Tim Allegrucci.

He was predeceased by his wife, Rose (Rushia) Douglass.

Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. A prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks, with burial to follow at the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Memorials in his name may be made to the AuSable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Madeline M. (Graves) Swinton

Ticonderoga — Madeline M. (Graves) Swinton, 80, of Chilson Road, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.

Born in Ticonderoga on July 8, 1919, she was the daughter of Edward and Vernila Jane (Jones) Graves.

Mrs. Swinton has been a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was a member of the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Ticonderoga.

Mrs. Swinton was employed by several Ticonderoga restaurants, including Nick's Restaurant for 12 years, Wagon Wheel Restaurant for ten years and as manager of the Ft. Ticonderoga Restaurant for 29 years, retiring in 1993.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathy A. LaTour and her son-in-law Jerry of St. Cloud, Fla., Tammy A. Avery of Chazy and Linda Demarais and her son-in-law David of Port Henry; and one son, Donald Duquette of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Gary Winch of Maryland; and many other nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 33 Algonkin Street in Ticonderoga. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Alliance Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Mike Putzke, pastor, will officiate.

Interment will be at a later date in the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Benjamin K. Gay

PLATTSBURGH — Benjamin K. Gay, 88, formerly of Norwalk, Conn., died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home.

He was born in Saranac Lake on Sept. 9, 1911, the son of Benjamin and Alicia M. (Higginbothom) Gay.

Mr. Gay was a member of the American Management Association. He was a master optician and assistant superintendent of optical operations for the Perkin-Elmer Corporation in Norwalk, Conn. from 1942 to 1976.

Survivors include his wife, the former Sybil I. Bouvia of Stamford, Conn.; one son, Robert L. Gay of Danbury, Conn.; one daughter, Carol Pennell of Willsboro; two sisters, Elizabeth Scribner of Plattsburgh and Mabel Love of Fairhaven, Vt.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Richard Gay of Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the West Plattsburgh Union Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the North Country.

Dorothy C. Nisoff, 92, of Morrisonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

She was born in Morrisonville on Nov. 19, 1907, the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Dashnaw) Carl.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 27, 2000, at 2 p.m. from St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville, with the Rev. Stephen Gratto, pastor, celebrating. He will be assisted by Mrs. Pam Ballantine, pastoral associate. Burial will follow in St. Alexander's Cemetery with a reception to follow at St. Joseph's Church Hall in Treadwells Mills.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

H. Townsend Carpenter, 77, of Peru, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at the Bay County Memorial Center in Panama City Beach, Fla.

A memorial service will be held in May at a time and date to be announced later.

Arrangements are with the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home.

Vivian B. "Sis" Martin, 74, of Whippleville, died Sunday evening, April 23, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient there since April 6.

She was born in Minoa on Jan. 29, 1926, the daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel (Vreeland) Montville.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Helen’s Church in Chasm Falls. Burial will be in St. Helen’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

Sally L. Speshock

Mineville — Sally L. Speshock, 65, of Wall St. in Mineville, died on Friday, April 21, 2000, at her home.

She was born in Mineville on April 26, 1934, the daughter of Rolland J. and Christine E. (Croto) Carson.

A lifelong resident of Mineville, she retired from the New York State court system after 23 years of service in the office of the Essex County Surrogate Court in Elizabethtown.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Speshock; three sons, Michael Speshock of Moriah, Paul Speshock of Clifton Park and Kevin Carson of Lewis; four daughters, Wendy Fernandez of Moriah, Sally Ann Ferry of Maryland, Tracy Speshock of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Jennifer Cuttler of East Greenbush; her brother, Robert Carson of Florida; her granddaughter, Thomessina Clarke of Moriah; ten other grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents; her son, David Speshock; and her brother, Terrance Carson.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. from the Mount Moriah Presbyterian Church in Port Henry, the Rev. Dr. Evelyn Meredith officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Town of Moriah Ambulance Squad.

Richard A. Paquin, 68, of Leesburg and Chateaugay Lake, died on Friday, April 21, 2000, at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Malone on June 19, 1931, the son of George and Lena (Gilbert) Paquin.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at 12 p.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in St. George’s Cemetery in Burke at a later date.

Lillian L. Rabideau, 92, of Salmon River Road in Schuyler Falls, died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

She was born in Chazy Lake on June 29, 1907.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at 11 a.m. in St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donald J. Clark Sr., 57, of South Bombay Road in Fort Covington, died early Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home, while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

Born in Ogdensburg on Aug. 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Howard and Dorothy Wallace Clark.

There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 12 p.m. in the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Davis officiating. Burial will be at Redwood Cemetery in Redwood.
