Rose Marie Acors
Mooers Forks — Rose Marie Acors, 57, died on Friday, April 21,
2000, at her residence.
She was born in Mooers Forks on June 30, 1942, the daughter of
Rudolph and Ruth (Gokey) Miller.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; her mother, Ruth Miller of
Mooers Forks; three sons, Richard Acors of Mooers Forks, David Acors
of Plattsburgh and Donald Acors of Plattsburgh; three brothers, Philip
Miller of Mooers Forks, Rudolph Miller Jr. of Mooers Forks and Joseph
Miller of Mooers Forks; four grandchildren, Danny, Nathan, Savanna and
David; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A Mass of Christian
burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in
Mooers Forks. Burial will be in the Whispering Maples Memorial Garden
in Ellenburg Depot.
Memorial donations in her memory can be made to the Mooers Rescue
Squad.
Thomas A. Piper, 46, of 15 Second St. in Malone, died
unexpectedly on Thursday, April 20, 2000, while vacationing in Banff,
Alberta, Canada, with his family.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at
the convenience of the family.
Alice M. Allen, 99, formerly of Champlain St. in Port Henry,
died on Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Moses Ludington Nursing Home
in Ticonderoga.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial graveside service will
be conducted at the White Church Cemetery in Crown Point on a day and
time to be announced.

Catherine Murphy Ballou
Swift
Lake Placid
— Catherine Murphy Ballou Swift, 93, passed away on Wednesday, April
19, 2000, at the Uihlein Mercy Center.
She was born
in New York City on July 29, 1906, the only daughter of Agustus Henry
Murphy and Katherine Marie Boylan Murphy.
She attended
Incarnation School and St. Catherine’s Academy (a catholic school
for girls), now located in Pelham. She graduated from the New York
Training School for Teachers in 1927, pursuing further studies at
Columbia, NYU and City College and obtaining further degrees. She
first taught at PS11, Richmond, PS82, PS88 and PS94 in the Bronx. In
July 1956 she married Frederick Broughton Ballou, who passed away on
Dec. 14, 1962.
She had
retired from teaching in 1962 and made her home at 77 Riverside Drive
in Saranac Lake. Upon her return to teaching in 1964, she started the
first kindergarten at St. Bernard’s School. In 1967 she returned to
New York City to teach for two more years at PS94 in the Bronx.
Upon her
return to this area, she made her home at Olympic Resort Condos on
Whiteface Inn Road. In 1970 she started a new kindergarten at St.
Agnes’ School in Lake Placid at the request of Monsignor LaValley.
In 1976 she won the Teacher of the Year Award for her work with young
people and was listed in the state records accordingly. Catherine
retired from St. Agnes’ School in 1977. In 1976 Catherine married
William T. Swift of Lake Placid. He passed away on May 21, 1978.
She is
survived by two cousins, Kathleen Lillis of Atlanta, Ga. and Dianne
Lillis Carter of Brookline, Mass.; three stepgrandsons, Robert Jevon
of Lincoln Mass., Dr. Thomas Jevon of Winchester, Mass. and Karl
Clauset of Needham, Mass.; and also five great-grandsons and two
great-granddaughters.
Friends may
call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Monday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at
St. Agnes’ Church in Lake Placid. Burial will follow in the North
Elba Cemetery.
In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the Kindergarten Fund in care of St.
Agnes’ School, Hillcrest Ave., Lake Placid, NY 12946.
Viola Hubert,
70, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in
Plattsburgh. She was born in Peoria, Ill., on Sept. 16, 1929, the
daughter of the late Clarence and Virginia Bruce.
Calling hours
will be on Monday, April 24, 2000, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Brown
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held at 9:30

— Corrine E.
VanNorstrand, 88, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the Evergreen
Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born
in Chazy on Jan. 2, 1912, the daughter of James and Agnes (Dumas)
Cusprini.
Corrine had
lived in Poughkeepsie for many years. She was a member of Holy Trinity
Church in Poughkeepsie.
Corrine is
survived by one daughter, Ruth A. Papa of Plattsburgh; two stepsons
and stepdaughters-in-law, Thomas and Carol VanNorstrand of Taylor,
S.C. and Bob and Cathy VanNorstrand of Monument, Colo.; a stepdaughter
and stepson-in-law, Dick and Dee Picolla of Oneonta; a grandson and
his wife, Marc and Mary Papa; two granddaughters, Andrea Papa and Lisa
Papa; several stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Corrine was
predeceased by her husbands, Clarence Anderson and Robert
VanNorstrand; a brother, Ambrose Cusprini; and three sisters, Florence
Ainscough, Irene Barton and Bertha Zeller.

will be on Monday, April 24, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at 11 a.m. from St. Peter’s

Madeleine (Howard ) Carpenter
Leach
Hague — Madeleine
(Howard) Carpenter Leach, 90, of Split Rock Road in Hague and, most
recently, of the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury, Vt., passed
away on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the nursing home.
Born in
Putnam Station on July 13, 1909, she was the daughter of the late
George and Helen Howard.
Mrs. Leach
was a resident of Hague for many years. She was employed by the Silver
Bay Association for many years and was also an Avon representative for
15 years.
She is
survived by three daughters, Helen Belden of Glens Falls, Laurie Smith
of Hague and Linda McCowan of Belville, Fla.; and several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was
predeceased by her first husband, Mason Carpenter; and also by her
second husband, Henry Leach. Two sons, Thomas M. Carpenter and David
A. Carpenter also died before her.
There will be
no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service will take
place at the family plot in the May Memorial Cemetery in Hague on
Monday, April 24, 2000, at 1 p.m. The Rev. Iva L. O’Brian will
officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilcox &
Regan Funeral Home in Ticonderoga.
Fanny Dishman,
91, of the Franklin County Nursing Home and formerly of Los Angeles,
Calif., died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical
Center in Malone.
There will be
no local services. Burial and services will be at the convenience of
the family in Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles,
Calif.

LaMondie Wagner, 28,
of 13 Gentle Breeze Drive in Malone, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000,
at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. She had been a patient
there since March 10.

Daniel R. Dupree
Malone —
Daniel R. Dupree, 48, of 121 California Road in Malone, died on
Monday, April 17, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He
had been a patient there since March 8, 2000.
Born in
Malone on Aug. 10, 1951, he was the son of Robert T. and Edna Decosse
Dupree.
He graduated
from Chateaugay High School in 1969 and attended New York State
University at Canton. On Oct. 12, 1979, he was united in marriage to
the former Alice M. LaPage Plumadore in Westville. Mr. Dupree was
employed as a maintenance supervisor at Alcoa in Massena for over 26
years. He retired on Feb. 1, 2000, because of his health. He was an
active communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Westville. He was a
member of the Alcoa 25-year club and served on the board of directors
of Coville Bay Senior Housing. He was a member of the Harness Horse
Association and a life member of the N.R.A. He was also an avid hunter
and enjoyed fishing.
He is
survived by his wife, Alice; his parents, Robert and Edna Dupree of
Chateaugay; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Dupree of Chateaugay;
one son, Jeremy Dupree who lives at home; one stepdaughter, Desiree
Plumadore of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Ricky Dupree of Brashton
and Steven and his wife Lisa Dupree of Malone; three sisters, Donna
and her husband Barry Barnes of Chateaugay, Margaret "Peggy"
Wood and her companion Marty Shaw of Malone and Lori Dupree and her
companion Greg Fleury of Burke; one stepgrandson, Colby Plumadore of
Houston, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated

Ducatte, 86, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at her residence.
Born in
Plattsburgh on June 8, 1913, she was the daughter of Joseph and Emma
(Gagnier) Smart.
She was a
member of the West Chazy Senior Citizens Club and a member of St.
Alexander's Church.
She is
survived by a son, Robert Duquette of Plattsburgh and his companion
Elberta Wheldon; two grandchildren, Cindy Hauer and Larry Duquette;
and four great-grandchildren, Cori, Luci, Mandee and Bobby.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Mose W. Ducatte who died on Nov. 6, 1984;
a daughter-in-law, Joyce Duquette who died in 1994; a grandson, Robert
Duquette who died in 1984; and 12 brothers and sisters.

of 370 West Main St. in Witherbee, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at
the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown.
She was born
in Mineville on Dec. 8, 1912, the daughter of William and Matilda
(White) Compton.
She is
survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Robert Pratt and
Joyce and Ernest Raymond; a daughter-in-law, Mary Burhart;
granddaughters, Kathleen and Chet Rogers and Donna Marcoux; grandsons,
Guy Raymond and John Henry Burhart; great-grandchildren, Robert and
Christie Whalen, Joseph and Dottie Whalen, Nicole Rogers, Chris
Marcoux, Peter Marcoux and Valerie Marcoux; and
great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner Whalen.
She was
predeceased by her husband, Louis M. Burhart; and her son, Arthur J.
Burhart.

Francis W. O'Connell
ALBANY — Francis W. O'Connell, 49, of Cadyville, passed away
during open heart surgery Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the Albany
Medical Center in Albany.
He was born in Plattsburgh on May 11, 1950, the son of Bernard W.
and Thelma M. (Bressette) O'Connell.
Francis was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute in 1968. In
1970, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably for two
decades. He served in Vietnam for one tour of duty.
He is presently a New York State correction officer, stationed in
Walkill. Francis was a member of the American Legion and he was
involved in many Memorial Day parades. He loved woodworking and
Mustangs.
Francis is survived by one son, Christopher Mark O'Connell of Chazy
Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Ronald J. Morrow II of
Ellenburg Center; one brother, Mark O'Connell of Saranac; two
grandchildren, Chasidy Marie O'Connell and Zachary Taylor Collado;
several cousins; and many loving friends.

Bertram Howard Brooks
Plattsburgh — Bertram Howard Brooks, 83, of Lake Forest Drive and
formerly of New Hyde Park, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home
after a brief illness.
He was born in Allentown, Pa. on July 29, 1916, the son of David
John and Sadie (Brenner) Brooks.
Bert graduated from Bryant High School in Queens. He served during
World War II as a captain in the U.S. Army, stationed in the
Philippines.
Bert was an avid bridge player and loved to write stories, poems
and puzzles. He enjoyed coaching youth sports and was an early
president of the Merillon Little League. He was active in the
Lakeville Civic Association, AARP and a member of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post 6910 in Floral Park.
Bert worked for many years following the war for the Rupert Brewery
in New York City until it closed. He finished his career as the public
relations manager for Reliance Federal Savings and Loan Association of
Garden City.
Mr. Brooks is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William
and Jane Brooks of Plattsburgh and David and Linda Brooks of
Massapequa Park; four grandchildren, Nicolas Brooks, Jonathan Brooks,
Lisa Brooks and Amy Brooks; and two nephews, Richard Brooks and
Stephen Brooks.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, the former Agnes
Virginia Duffy, on Sept. 16, 1998 and a brother, Cecil Brooks.

Lewis — Joanne Jones, 52, of Lewis, died at CVPH Medical Center
on Saturday, April 15, 2000.
She was born in Elizabethtown on June 13, 1947, the daughter of
James and Jennie (Denton) Lacey.
Joanne graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1965. She
received a bachelor of science degree in behavioral science from
Empire State and was a member of the Willsboro United Methodist
Church. She worked for the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown for 11
years and the Willsboro ICF as a counselor for six years.
She is survived by one son, Albert Jones of Norwich; one sister,
Judith Behan of Lewis; one brother and his wife, Bruce and Martha
Lacey of Willsboro; three nieces and two nephews; and several aunts
and uncles.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 20, 2000, from 7 to 9
p.m. at the Huestis Funeral Home in Willsboro. Funeral services will
be held on Friday, April 21, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lewis
Methodist Church.

Margaret B. Erno
PLATTSBURGH — Margaret B. Erno, 85, of Truman Avenue, died
Monday, April 17, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Standish on April 10, 1915, the daughter of Louis
and Josephine (Bosjolie) Rollier.
Mrs. Erno was a member of St. Peter's Church. She worked at Don G.
Orchards in Peru for several years. Mrs. Erno's greatest joy was to
see her children grow and remain close to one another. She will be
dearly missed.
She is survived by four daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Caron
of Plattsburgh, Sally and Donald Fuller of Morrisonville, Margaret M.
Erno of Cossayuna and Mary Gregware of Beekmantown; one son and
daughter-in-law, Donald and Veronica Erno of Beekmantown; three
sisters, Arma Rollier of Schenectady, Marion Squires of Plattsburgh
and Claire Rollier of Delaware; one brother, Clifford Rollier of
Plattsburgh; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Paul Rollier, formerly of Lyon
Mountain.
There will be no public calling hours. A private funeral service
will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place
in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery.

Robert Brooks Carr
LAs Vegas, Nev. — Robert Brooks Carr, 47, of Las Vegas, Nev.,
died Feb. 22, 2000, at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas,
Nev.
He was born in Dunellen, N.J. on June 6, 1952, the son of Robert E.
and Margaret (Brooks) Carr.
Robert was a graduate of Dade Junior-Senior High School in Coral
Gables, Fla. He was in the U.S. Air Force for four years and retired
from the U.S. Navy with 20 years combined service.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Andrea Joy Carr of Smyrna, Ga.;
his mother, Margaret Brooks Carr of Plattsburgh; a brother, Randy of
Miami, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Carr and his wife,
Susan Emmanuel Carr.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at 10
a.m. at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.

Frances E. Byington, 84, of North Lawrence, died Saturday
evening, April 15, 2000, at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.
She was born on July 21, 1914, in Constable, the daughter of
Alexander and Mary (Bradore) Fleury.

M. Brown, 72, of Route 22 died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Newark, N.J., July 18,
1927, the daughter of Thomas and Genevieve (Pastore) Delano.
Blanche was a
member of St. Louis de France Parish in Sciota.
Blanche is
survived by two sons, John R. Brown Jr. of Sciota and Brooke W. Brown
of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Scott
LaBarge of Sciota; eight grandchildren, Tara Hemingway, Kristy
LaBarge, Ashley LaBarge, Jennifer Brown, Ryan Brown, Anthony Brown,
Ethan Brown and Paige Brown; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and
Teresa Delano of Belleville, N. J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Blanche was
predeceased by her husband of 52 years, John R. Brown, Jan. 18, 2000.

Hubert C. Downs
Cadyville — Hubert C. Downs,
79, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, at his residence, surrounded by his
loving wife and family.
He was born in Saranac on Oct.
17, 1920, the son of Hubert Charles and Dora Mae (Clancy) Downs.
He was a farmer for several
years and drove a milk truck for the Dairyman's League in Peru. He
later was employed at Saranac Central School, where he retired after
19 years of service. He was a member of St. James Church in Cadyville.
He enjoyed camping, gardening, bird watching and spending time with
his family.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Ann Smith of Cadyville; four sons and three daughters-in-law,
Gary and June Downs of Rexford, John and Norma Downs of Chazy, Bill
Downs of Plattsburgh and Ray and Carol Downs of Whitehall; five
daughters and four sons-in-law, Barbara and Frank LeClair of
Cadyville, Peggy and Danny Guynup of Cadyville, Janice and Donny Wood

Betty Jean and Bernie Bassett of Morrisonville; four brothers and
three sisters-in-law, Dennis and Ruth Downs of Deltona, Fla., Dan and
Marian Downs of Plattsburgh, James Downs of West Chazy and John and
Mary Rita Downs of Plattsburgh; 17 grandchildren, Benjamin and Rebecca
Downs, Kelley LeClair, Shawn, John and Laurie Downs, Danielle Downs,
Nathan, Christopher and Elissa Guynup, Dennis and Darren Downs,
Matthew and Lindsey Moore, Angel, Jessica and Adam Bassett; and many
nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother,
Robert died earlier.
Calling hours will be held on
Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral
Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at
1 p.m. Monday from St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will be in
the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made
to Hospice of the North Country or a charity of one's choice.
James J. "Jim" Bird
Plattsburgh — Mr. James J.
"Jim" Bird, 64, of Margaret Street, died Saturday, April 15,
2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Plattsburgh on
June 17, 1935, the son of Dennis and Irma (Kenney) Bird.
Jim was a graduate of St.
John's Academy and graduated from Plattsburgh State with a bachelors
and masters degree in education. He worked at Bouyea Bakery for many
years.
Jim is survived by three sons,
Jeffrey Bird of South Burlington, Vt., Mark Bird of Deerfield Beach,
Fla. and Erick Bird of Plattsburgh; his mother, Irma Bird of
Plattsburgh; companion Joanne Zatonski of Plattsburgh; two sisters,
Mary DeGroot and Carita Bird, both of Asheville, N.C.; a brother and a
sister-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Bird of Cadyville; and several
nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday
from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass
of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 4 p.m. at St. John's
Church. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
