Bernice M. Lagree
Dannemora — Bernice M. Lagree, 72, died Thursday, March 23, 2000,
at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Dannemora on July 2,1927, the daughter of Wilfred
and Alice (Sweeney) Bourey.
She graduated as a R.N. from the Champlain Valley Hospital School
of nursing in 1948 and worked at CVPH as a private duty nurse. She
later was employed as the school nurse for the Dannemora School
District and later for the Saranac School District where she retired
in 1990. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Lagree of Dannemora; a
daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ted Luck of Plattsburgh; a son and
daughter-in-law, Roger and Debbie Lagree of Bloomingdale; a
daughter-in-law, Mary Lagree of Greenwood, Ind; two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Rodney Lagree of Malone, Richard and Rochelle lagree
of Rochester; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Meyer of
Trafalgar, Ind. and 12 grandchildren.
A son, Robert Lagree died March 13, 1991. Her father, Wilfred
Bourey died August 19, 1951. Her brother, Donald died May 30, 1925 and
her mother, Alice Bourey died February 14, 1998.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m at
the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of
Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from St.
Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at
a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Dannemora Rescue
Squad.
KEITH ANTHONY WARD, 27, of Sawmill Drive in Jay, died
Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Fletcher-Allen Medical Center in
Burlington, Vt.
He was born in the Bronx on April 6, 1972, the son of Kevin and
Bernadette (Crogan) Ward.
Visitation hours will be Monday, March 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the
Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday
afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington.
Mason L. Mallette, 76, of Route 122, Constable, died Wednesday,
March 22, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.
He was born in Belmont on April 13, 1923, the son of the late Leo
and Charlotte (Barcomb) Mallette.
Callings hours will be Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. The funeral
service will be private and at the convenience of the family, with the
Rev. Garry Giroux officiating. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery
in Malone.
Richard J. Wood, 62, of Floyd, and formerly of Riverview, died
Thursday, March 23, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Rome. Calling
hours will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W.
Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated Tuesday at Assumption of Mary Church in Redford at a time
to be announced. Burial will be in the parish cemeter at a later date.
Mary Rose Aigner, 100, of Pompano Beach, Fla. and formally of
Lake Placid passed away at the Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale,
Fla on Saturday, March 18, 2000. She was born in Carbondale, Pa.
August 2, 1899. She had been director of personnel at the American
Machine and Foundry Co. in Brooklyn and in later years had been
Personnel Director at the Inn in Lake Placid. A funeral mass will be
held Tuesday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at the Saint Agnes Church in Lake
Placid. Rev. Michael Gaffney pastor, will officiate. A grave will be
held in may at the Saint Agne’s Cemetery, Lake Placid. The Clark
Funeral Home in Lake Placid in in charge of arrangements.
Robert H. Martin, 43, died suddenly Thursday March 2, 2000, at
his home in South Lyon, Mich. He was born in Hartford, Conn on Oct.
25, 1956, the son of the late Hugh Martin and and Sally MacDonald
Martin of Lake Placid.Friends may call at the Clark Funeral in Lake
Placid Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will held at
8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Rev. Mark Demers will officiate.
Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery, LakePlacid.

Elizabeth C. White
Cadyville —
Elizabeth C. White, 78, formerly of Hardscrabble Road, died Wednesday,
March 22, 2000, at the Clinton County Nursing Home. Mrs. White was
born in Chester, Pa. on September 5, 1921, the daughter of Ransom and
Margaret (Powers) Craig.
Mrs. White
graduated from Cadyville High School. She married Stephen B. White on
February 28, 1943, at the Saranac United Methodist Church Parsonage by
Rev. Frank Tarling. Elizabeth was a member of the United Methodist
Church in Saranac for 65 years, where she taught Sunday School for
over 25 years.
Survivors
include her husband, Stephen White of Cadyville; one daughter, Mrs.
Deborah Lambert and her husband Robert of Saranac; one sister, Mrs.
Margaret Kleine and her husband Harry "Bob" of Ripton, Vt;
five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews. One son, Stephen G. White, died in 1976.
Calling hours
will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral
Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.
at the Saranac United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to the
Saranac Methodist Church Memorial Fund. There will be a reception
following the service in the Church Hall.
Simone Myers,
77, of Barcomb Ave., died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Canada on October 7,
1922. A memorial service will be held in Montreal, Canada at the
convenience of the family.

arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
Blanche E.
Tredo, 90, of Route
9N, Jay, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the St. Uhilein Mercy
Center in Lake Placid. She was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Jay. There will
be no calling hours or funeral service.
Graveside
services will be held at a later date at the family plot in Jay
Central Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

Carolyn Jean Howard
Malone —
Carolyn Jean Howard, 66, of Academy Street, Malone, died early this
morning, March 22, 2000, at Alice Hyde Medical Center, where she had
been a patient since Dec. 15, 1999. She had been in failing health for
the past several years.
Born in Fort
Covington on Oct. 12, 1933, she was the daughter of Harold and Edna
(Westcott) Howard. Her parents predeceased her.
She graduated
from Fort Covington High School and later from the Adirondack School
of Commerce in Malone. After her graduation, she started her
employment with the former Farmer's Bank in Malone, where she
continued working until her retirement many years ago due to ill
health, with over 40 years service. At her retirement, she was head
teller and assistant cashier at the Key Bank in Malone.
She was a
member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Malone, former
member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Covington, a member of
the Alice Hyde Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Thursday's Night
Bowling League for many years. She was a member of the Franklin County
Agriculture Association and had worked as a teller during fair week.
Surviving are
two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Eleanor Howard of Fort
Covington and George and Marion Howard of Westville; a sister, Arlene
Howard of Malone; and five nieces and nephews, Donald Howard of
Frenchtown, N.J., Diane Tremblay of Westville, Hugh Howard of
Burlington, Vt., Beverly Merrill of Burke and Paul Howard of
Westville.
The family
will receive friends at her home at 106 Academy Street on Thursday,
from 1 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be private and at the
convenience of the family, with Rev. Tom Davis, pastor of Centenary
United Methodist Church, presiding. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery
in Fort Covington.
Memorial
donations may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church
Elevator Fund.

Garth G. Peck
Burke —
Garth G. Peck, 61, of Route 11, in Burke, died Wednesday, March 22,
2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a
patient there since March 16.
Born in
Chateaugay on May 10, 1938, he was the son of Hollis and Geraldine
(Smith) Peck.
For over
eight years, Mr. Peck was employed by the Burke Milk Plant. He then
worked for Pratt-Whitney in New Haven, Conn. for one year, before
returning to Burke to work for the Chateaugay Cheese Plant. He then
purchased a dairy farm on the Callahan Road in Burke, which he
operated for over 32 years.
He was a
communicant of St. George's Church in Burke, a member of the Malone
Knights of Columbus 308 and a Burke town councilman for the past four
years. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, fishing and hunting.
On May 16,
1959, he was united in marriage to the former Delores Delaney at Notre
Dame Church in Malone. She survives.
Besides his
wife, Delores, he is survived by his mother, Geraldine Peck of Burke;
four sons and three daughters-in-law, Terry and Kathy Peck of Livonia,
Randy and Diane Peck, Allan and Donna Peck and Todd Peck, all of
Burke; one daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Alan Lobdell of Burke;
four brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Joan Peck of Burke,
Robert "Laurin" and Mary Peck of Brandon, David and Kandis
Peck of Burke and Russell and Carma Peck of Constable; five sisters
and two brothers-in-law, Judith Burke of Harrison, Maine, Stella and
Eugene Theriault of Bail d'Urfe, Quebec, Betty Peck of Millerton,
Kathleen and Charles Poole and Carol Summers, all of Browns Mills,
N.J.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was
predeceased by his father, Hollis Peck, on April 7, 1995.
Calling hours
will be Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral
Home in Malone. The funeral service and entombment in Whispering
Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot will be private and at the
convenience of the family.
Donations may
be made in his memory to either the Cam Neely Foundation in Boston,
Mass., the Ronald McDonald House in Burlington, Vt., or the Burke
Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
Lena May (Brown) Benjamin
Ticonderoga
— Lena May (Brown) Benjamin, 66, of the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home
of Ticonderoga and formerly of Lord Howe Estates, passed away Tuesday,
March 21, 2000, at the nursing home.
Born in
Ticonderoga on March 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Frank
and Beatrice (Barber) Brown.
Mrs. Benjamin
was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life.
She is
survived by one brother, Newton J. Brown and one sister, Carolyn B.
White, both of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by many nieces and
nephews and her good friend, Walter R. McDonald of Ticonderoga.
Her husband,
Gordon R. Benjamin, passed away before her on August 17, 1992. She was
also predeceased by a brother, Francis Brown.
There will be
no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service will take
place at the family plot of the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Ticonderoga later
in the spring with the Rev. Paul L. Dufford Jr., pastor of the First
United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga, officiating.

Betty L. Griffin
Indian Lake
— Betty L. Griffin, affectionately known as "Aunt Betty",
age 69, of Fred Gay Road, died Tuesday evening, March 21, 2000, at her
home, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April
1, 1930, in Jay, she was the daughter of Hattie and Daniel Maynard Sr.
On June 5,
1948, she married Ralph L. Griffin in Wilmington. Betty and Ralph
moved their family from Jay to Indian Lake in 1972 .
Betty was a
former Girl Scout Troop leader in Jay and later in Indian Lake. She
was a lay leader of the United Methodist Church of Indian Lake.
She enjoyed
gardening, camping, cooking and taking walks throughout Indian Lake.
She especially loved walking at Silver Run in Moose River Plains.
She is
survived by her husband of 51 years; two sons, Jay Griffin and his
wife Margaret of Indian Lake and Lawrence Griffin and his wife Gloria
of Walkerville, Md.; one sister, Roberta Southmayd of Jay; one
grandson, Cale Edward Griffin of Walkerville, Md.; two
stepgrandchildren, Timothy Paul Leach and Sharon Ann Leach, both of
Indian Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was
predeceased by three siblings, Enid Cooper, Kay Maynard and Daniel
Maynard.
A memorial
service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2000, at
the United Methodist Church of Indian Lake, with the Rev. Judith
Muller, pastor, officiating. Following the service, friends and family
are invited to gather at the family residence on Fred Gay Road.
Contributions
in Betty's memory may be directed to a charity of one's choice.

Clarence E. LaValley Sr.
Mooers Forks
— Clarence E. LaValley Sr., 64, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at
the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born
in Mooers on Oct. 16, 1935, the son of Albert and Bertha (Huggins)
LaValley.
He was a
dairy farmer for many years and was a member of St. Ann's Church in
Mooers Forks.
He is
survived by his wife, the former Verda Dupee; three sons and
daughters-in-law, Clarence and Ann LaValley Jr. of Mooers Forks, Carl
and Michelle LaVaIley of Altona and Charles and Lisa LaValley of
Mooers Forks; a daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Mark Columbe of
Champlain; three brothers, Albert "Joe" LaValley of Mooers,
Alfred LaValley of Mooers Forks and Justin Houle of Plattsburgh; three
sisters, Millie Derosia of Holyoke, Mass., Mabel Stone of Ellenburg
Depot and Irene Marshall of Mooers Forks; 14 grandchildren; and a
great-grandson.
A brother,
Harold LaValley, died before him.

James A. Buck
Ormond Beach,
Fla. — James A. Buck, 84, of Fleming Avenue and formerly of
Dannemora, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at his home.
He was born
on Jan. 10, 1916, in Dannemora, the son of Austin and Lillian (Lyman)
Buck.
Mr. Buck was
a correction officer at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora. On
Feb. 17, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country in
World War II. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 23, 1945, returning
back to Dannemora and Clinton Correctional Facility, where he worked
until his retirement.
James was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1590 in Daytona Beach, the
American Legion Post 852 in Dannemora and a life member of the
Dannemora Siberian Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Buck was also a former member
of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora.
Survivors
include his wife, Helen Buck of Ormond Beach; one sister-in-law, Laura
Buck of Dannemora; three nieces, Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis) LaVarnway of
Massena, Mrs. Ronald (Wanda) Sweeney of Dannemora and Mrs. Donald
(Sally) Yanulavich of Plattsburgh; and one great-niece, Christine
LaVarnway of Plattsburgh.
Calling hours
will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora.

RICHARD L. SHEASBY, 87,
of Molly Nye Road in Keene, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at his

Erika R. Duso
Elizabethtown
— Erika R. Duso, 74, was called to the arms of our Lord on Monday,
March 20, 2000, after a hard and courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born
on Dec. 6, 1925, in Bloomingdale, to Stephen and Frances (Plumley)
Ransom.
She graduated
from Bloomingdale High School and attended CVPH School of Nursing. She
married Harold Duso on March 17, 1946, in Tupper Lake. They resided in
Bloomingdale and surrounding areas until moving to the homestead on
Water Street in Elizabethtown in 1950.
She was a
homemaker for the majority of her life and enjoyed cooking immensely.
She worked for Margaret Hoffman in Gabriels and for the Little Tavern
as a cook. She was a 44-year member of the Boquet Valley Unit 551,
American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and was proud of
each and every one of them. Each Christmas, for over 30 years, she
baked gingerbread boys for the school.
She is
survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Harry Rivers of
Ganservoort; three sons and their wives, Bernard and Linda Duso of
Elizabethtown, Stephen and Wanda Duso of Lewis and Tom Duso of
Elizabethtown; one brother, Stephen F. and Theresa Ransom of Saranac
Lake; three sisters, Penny Wood of Plattsburgh, Ida J. Ransom of North
Grosvenor Dale, Conn. and Susan C. Zadroga of Wincendom, Mass.; ten
grandchildren, Joe and Cynthia Locke, Jon Harrell, Harry and Sabrina
Rivers Jr., Salle Duso, Bernard and Julia Duso Jr., Heidi Duso,
Stephen Duso Jr., Richard Duso and William Duso; 14
great-grandchildren, Amanda, Erika and Jon Harrell Jr., Mike,

Dorothy H. Woodard
Ticonderoga
— Dorothy Hazel Woodard, 79, of Abercrombie Street in Ticonderoga,
died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Moses Ludington Hospital following
a brief illness.
Mrs. Woodard
was born in Ticonderoga on July 28, 1920, the daughter of Arthur and
Marion (Potter) Bacon. She married Kenneth E. Woodard on March 17,
1937.
Dorothy
enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing her instant lottery
tickets.
She was a
devoted mother and grandmother who gave a tremendous amount of love,
guidance and encouragement to her children. A member of the Episcopal
Church of the Cross, she had a strong and committed faith in God which
brought her a great deal of comfort.
She is
survived by two sons, Kenneth Woodard Jr. of Long Beach, Mich. and
Percy Woodard of Gloversville; six daughters, Joan Forkas of
Ticonderoga, Adele Jones of Scottsdale, Ariz., Nancy LaTour of Hague,
Kathy Flores of Queensbury, Rosemary Moore of Scottsdale, Ariz. and
Linda O'Hern of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, Daniel Bacon of
Gannesvort; one sister, Gertrude Dixon of Glens Falls; and several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides her
husband, she is predeceased by two sons, Gilbert Woodard and James
Woodard; four sisters, Altina Hurlburt, Catherine Woodard, Lucille
Richardson and Verna Myers; and two brothers, Gilbert and John Bacon.

— Mrs. Gladys E. Carter, 63, of the Bradford Road, died Tuesday,
March 21, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born
in Chateaugay on April 14, 1935, the daughter of the late Homer and
Evelyn (Decker) Barnes.
Gladys had
worked for Battat Corporation and enjoyed crocheting. She was a member
of St. Edmund’s Church in Ellenburg.
Gladys is
survived by her husband of 45 years, Leon E. Carter of Plattsburgh;
four sons and two daughters-in-law, Leon Edward and Kay Carter of
Constable, Thomas and Susan Carter of Beekmantown, David Carter and
his companion Cathy Cinney of Berlin, N.Y. and William Carter of
Plattsburgh; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Pamela and Michael
Depo of Plattsburgh, Diane and Sylvester LaClair of Ellenburg Depot,
Donna and Francis Siskavich of Beekmantown and Terri and Rick Rendle
of Peaseleeville; a sister and a brother-in-law, Wanda and Eugene
LaBombard of Morrisonville; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Gladys was
predeceased by her parents; a son, Daniel Carter; a daughter, Denise
Carter; and a half-brother, John Barnes.

Duane R. "Cov"
Covey
Beekmantown
— Mr. Duane R. "Cov" Covey, 68, of Route 22, died Tuesday,
March 21, 2000, at the Clinton County Nursing Home.
He was born
in Plattsburgh on Jan. 31, 1932, the son of the late Ernest and
Loretta (Brothers) Covey.
Duane was a
well know area athlete. He was a veteran of Korea, serving in the U.S.
Army. Duane was the owner and operator of Covey's Plumbing and Heating
in Beekmantown and had sponsored Covey's Softball Team.
He was a avid
outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Duane was a member of the
Thomas F. Duffy Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1466, Beekmantown and he
was a member of St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy.
He is
survived by his wife, whom he married May 3, 1969, Katharina
"Katie" (Hardt) Covey of Beekmantown; two daughters and a
son-in-law, Carrie and Gary Castine of Beekmantown and Camila Covey of
Peru; two stepsons, Steve and Lori LaFaive of Plattsburgh and Larry
LaFaive of Beekmantown; a sister, Jean Manor and her companion Vic
Silvers of Churusbusco; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Jack
Covey of Plattsburgh, Mahlon and Jennette Covey of Morrisonville and
Gary and Sherry Covey of Schuyler Falls; a sister-in-law, Esther Covey
of Morrisonville; six grandchildren, Bobbie Jo, Casey, Leann, Matthew,
Alisen and Jonathan; two great-grandsons, Austin and Alexander; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was
predeceased by a son, Christopher Covey; and a brother, Pete Covey.

in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday
at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Interment will be at

VFW Post 1466 are asked to meet Thursday evening at 7 p.m. for
services.

Edith Mae
Mahagan, 76, of
Pierpont Street in Malone, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at her home.
She was born
in North Lawrence on Aug. 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Arthur and
Mildred (Lindsey) Mahagan.
There are no
calling hours. A graveside service will be announced later in the
spring. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in North Lawrence.
Donations may
be made in her memory to the Alice Hyde Medical Center or to St. Mark’s
Church.

— Linda Lee "Munk" Stefaniak, 53, of Margaret Street, died
Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born
in Plattsburgh on March 21, 1946, the daughter of the late Victor and
Isabelle (Martino) Chamberland. Linda enjoyed bingo and playing cards.
She is
survived by her stepmother, Leona Chamberland of Plattsburgh; her
husband of 36 years, Douglas Stefaniak Sr. of Plattsburgh; three
daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Lou and Richard LaDuke of
Schenectady, Stephanie and Michael Martineau of Plattsburgh and Tina
Stefaniak of Plattsburgh; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harley
Stefaniak and his companion Laura Raline of Schenectady and Douglas
and Debbie Stefaniak Jr. of Schenectady; six sisters and six
brothers-in-law, Betty and William Traver of Saratoga Springs, Brinda
and Gary Clukey of Plattsburgh, Christine and Harold Gram of
Plattsburgh, Victoria and Michael Parker of Morrisonville, Cynthia and
John Burnham of Plattsburgh and Eva and John Parker of Peru; a
brother, James Chamberland of Plattsburgh; grandchildren Rody,
Richard, Justin, Candice, Shawn, George, Leona, Scotty, Kim,
Georgianna, Amanda, Kattie, Catelin, Sapphire, Cassandra, Cortney,
Douglas III and Donald; great-grandchildren Isiah and Serena; several
nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Helen Stefaniak of
Plattsburgh.
She was
predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Brow.

Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated
Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church. Interment will be at a

Erika R. Duso
Elizabethtown
— Erika R. Duso, 74, was called to the arms of our Lord on Monday,
March 20, 2000, after a hard and courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born
on Dec. 6, 1925, in Bloomingdale, to Stephen and Frances (Plumley)
Ransom.
She graduated
from Bloomingdale High School and attended CVPH School of Nursing. She
married Harold Duso on March 17, 1946, in Tupper Lake. They resided in
Bloomingdale and surrounding areas until moving to the homestead on
Water Street in Elizabethtown in 1950.
She was a
homemaker for the majority of her life and enjoyed cooking immensely.
She worked for Margaret Hoffman in Gabriels and for the Little Tavern
as a cook. She was a 44-year member of the Boquet Valley Unit 551,
American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed
her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and was proud of
each and every one of them. Each Christmas, for over 30 years, she
baked gingerbread boys for the school.
She is
survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Harry Rivers of
Ganservoort; three sons and their wives, Bernard and Linda Duso of
Elizabethtown, Stephen and Wanda Duso of Lewis and Tom Duso of
Elizabethtown; one brother, Stephen F. and Theresa Ransom of Saranac
Lake; three sisters, Penny Wood of Plattsburgh, Ida J. Ransom of North
Grosveno, Conn. and Susan C. Zadroga of Wincendom, Mass.; ten
grandchildren, Joe Locke, Cynthia Locke, Jon Harrell, Harry and
Sabrina Rivers Jr., Sallee Duso, Bernard and Julia Duso Jr., Heide
Duso, Stephen Duso Jr., Richard Duso and William Duso; 14
great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ericka and Jon Harrell, Mike, Christopher
and Andrew Locke, Katie, Samantha and Haley Rivers, Ericka Duso,
Clarrisa, Jackie, David Rock and Nicole Haley.

will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at
W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. An Auxiliary service
will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A funeral Mass will be held
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Elizabethtown.

Russell, 81, died on
Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the Fletcher-Allen Health Care Facility
in Burlington, Vt.
She was born

Glen R. Ashley
RALEIGH, N.C. — Glen
R. Ashley, 36, of 4019 Lake Lynn Drive, Raleigh, N.C., formerly of
Massena and Plattsburgh, died unexpectedly Friday, March 17, 2000, at
Western Wake Medical Center in North Carolina.
He was born in Fort
Knox, Ky., on March 1, 1964, the son of Glen F. Ashley and Jane (Van
Camp) Ashley.
He graduated from
Massena Central School in 1981 and from Northwestern Oklahoma State
University in Alva, Ok.
Mr. Ashley served in
the U.S. Army, including deployment to Desert Storm with the 82nd
Airborne, the first troops into Saudi Arabia.
His picture was on the
cover of Newsweek during Desert Storm.
He was a counselor for
the state of North Carolina’s Employment Security Commission and had
previously worked at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was a member of
Veterans of Foreign Wars in Plattsburgh and Sacred Heart Church in
Massena.
He is survived by his
parents, Glen and Jane Ashley of Plattsburgh; a daughter, Alexa Rae
Ashley of Oklahoma City, OK.; three sisters and their spouses, Jane
Elizabeth and Laurent Tasic of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Susan Marie and
John Jarvis of Plattsburgh and Karen Elaine and Mark Lawliss of
Plattsburgh; a nephew, Brenden Lawliss of Plattsburgh; two nieces,
Ashley Jarvis and Maegan Jarvis of Plattsburgh; two aunts, Lynn Wirth
of Long Island and Karen Ashley of Stevensville, Ontario; an uncle,
Richard Ashley of Venita Springs, Fla.; and a grandfather, Robert Caza
of Massena.

Bernard J. Ryan
PLATTSBURGH —
Bernard John Ryan, 91, formerly of Churubusco, died Saturday, March
18, 2000, at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
Born on July 29, 1908,
in Ellenburg Center, he was the son of John and Nellie (Donahue) Ryan.
He married the former
Rose A. Donnelly on Nov. 23, 1936, in St. Mary’s Church in Lake
Titus, with the Rev. Arthur Desrosiers officiating.
He was a dairy farmer
for many years in Churubusco. He served as highway superintendent for
the Town of Clinton for 10 years in the late 1940s and early ’50s.
Ryan was also employed
by International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers Local 1249 for 20
years until his retirement in 1970.
He was a member of
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Churubusco and a member of the
Bishop Wadham’s Council 469 Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Nancy Ryan O’Connor of Chateaugay; a grandson and his
wife, Sean and Kristie O’Connor of Mooers; a grandson, Josh O’Connor
of Mooers; and a sister, Mildred Ryan of Oneida Castle.
His wife, Rose Ryan; a
brother, Lawrence Ryan; a sister, Mary Ledwith; and a grandson, Robert
Bernard McDonald, died before him.
Calling hours will be
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chateaugay Funeral Home.
Funeral services will
be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church,
Churubusco, with the Rev. Howard McCasland officiating. A spring

Harry J. Vaughan
PLATTSBURGH — Harry
J. Vaughan, 72, of City Hall Place died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at
Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
He was born in
Plattsburgh on June 2, 1927, the son of Harry G. and Florence (Tamer)
Vaughan.
Harry had worked as an
operating engineer for Jenkins Construction, Pugh Construction, Lee’s
Pools and Bouchard Construction.
He was an avid
outdoorsman and enjoyed bowling, ice fishing and bullhead and trout
fishing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his
wife, Helen, of Plattsburgh; seven children and their spouses, Linda
and Wayne Seymour of Plattsburgh, Donna and Steve Shreve of
Plattsburgh, Bonnie and Vinnie Avery of Pine Bush, Thomas and Debbie
Vaughan of Plattsburgh, Ricky and Patti Vaughan of Plattsburgh, Melody
St. Louis of Massachusetts and Tammie and Doug Kramer of Niles, Ohio;
a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Lee Vaughan of Cocoa,
Fla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Roger Otten of
Saranac and Mary and Keron Ledwith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 17
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased
by a brother, Richard Tom Vaughan, who died in 1939.

Plattsburgh.

be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Floyd Bleaux officiating.

— Donald R. Griffin, 75, of School Street, Lake Placid died suddenly
Saturday, March 18, 2000. He was born in Lake Placid Sept. 29, 1924.

a.m. Tuesday, March 21, at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, with the
Rev. Michael Gaffney officiating and Deacon Alan Macnab assisting.

— Mary Ann Abraham, 60, died March 18, 2000, at her home.
She was born
in Syracuse on April 21, 1939, daughter of William C. and Margaret A.
(Kelley) Lundquest.
Mary Ann was
a graduate of St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh and obtained her
master's degree from Plattsburgh State. She had been employed by
Clinton County ARC for over ten years. She recently was employed by
Sunmount DDSO.
Mary Ann was
a member of St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. She enjoyed cooking and
was an animal lover. She was involved with Greyhound Rescue of
Vermont.
Mary Ann is
survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Bernard Brault of
Chazy; a son, Christopher Abraham of Bellingham, Mass.; three brothers
and sisters-in-law, James and Arlene Lundquest of Corning, William and
Joan Lundquest of Styvescent and Jon and Claire Lundquest of Dennis,
Mass.; two aunts; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was
predeceased by her husband, Jerome S. Abraham, on Jan. 17, 1986.

Willsboro —
Clarence E. Wade, 81, of the Middle Road, Willsboro, died at the
Elizabethtown Community Hospital on Friday, March 17, 2000.
He was born
in Reber, April 2, 1918, the son of Ernest and Anna (Mere) Wade.
He worked for
the NY and Penn Paper Company until it closed and then became a
self-employed butcher. He was a avid outdoorsman and gardener and
belonged to the Willsboro Fish and Game Club.
Mr. Wade is
survived by one son and his wife, Edward and Sharon Wade of Willsboro;
three daughters, Janice Drew of Willsboro, Denise and her husband Joe
Goddeau of Cadyville and Joyce and her husband Elton Barton of
Willsboro; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was
predeceased by his wife Bernice (VanOrnam) in 1998; and two sisters,
Ruth Sayward and Norma VanOrnam.
