Philip Dattola

TUPPER LAKE — Philip Dattola, 87, of 6 Berkley Ave. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at his home in Tupper Lake.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1912, in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, the son of Paulo and Antonia (Neri) Dattola.

Mr. Dattola came to the United States at the age of 16 and obtained his U.S. citizenship and settled in Tupper Lake.

Philip was married to the former Bernadette Bedore of Tupper Lake on April 29, 1941, at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He served stateside until being honorably discharged in 1945.

He had been employed by NY Central Railroad. He later owned and operated the Colonial Hotel with his brother Dan. In 1947 he purchased and operated the Tupper Lake Supply Co. until his retirement in 1975. Mr. Dattola was active in many local organizations including the Rotary Club of Tupper Lake from which he received the Paul Harris Fellow award and the Knights Of Columbus of which he was a 4th Degree Knight.

He is survived his wife of 59 years, and by six children, Anne (Dattola) Manzano and her husband Joe of Solvay, Danny and his wife Lori of Colorado, Theresa (Dattola) Goddeau and her husband Everest of Lake Placid, Jim and his wife Eileen, Rick and his wife Lisa and Donna (Dattola) Stocum all of Tupper Lake. Also 10 grandchildren and three great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews survive him.

Mr. Dattola was predeceased by his son Philip Dattola Jr., his brother Dan and his sister Donisia.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 6 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Church with the Rev. Robert Shurtleff officiating. Burial will take place in May at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Mr. Dattola’s name are asked to consider High Peaks Hospice or the Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad.

SARA E. LEHMANN, 69 of Route 9, Chazy, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 26, 1930, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Randal and Marjorie (Saxe) McCullough. Arrangements are incomplete with R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

SHERBURNE E. FAYETTE, 87, of South Main Street, Malone, died Friday morning Feb. 4, 2000, at Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in the spring.

VIOLA M. CHARTIER, 77, of Saranac, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. Arrangements were incomplete Friday evening at O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

ROBERT J. TAYLOR, 58, of Wallace Hill Road, formerly of Saranac, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center. He was born March 2, 1941, the son of Martin and Florence (Helm) Taylor.

JOHN P. CONGER, 41, of State Highway 72 in Hopkinton, formerly of St. Regis Falls, died suddenly late Tuesday evening, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Canton Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam. Born Jan. 6, 1959 in Potsdam, he was the son of Donald and Phyllis Woods Conger.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Free United Methodist Church in St. Regis Falls with the Rev. Robert Billings and Bishop Dale Nicholson officiating. Calling hours will be on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls. Burial will be in Moundhill Cemetery, Nicholville, in the spring.

Ashley Wallace Buck

Severna Park, Md. — Ashley Wallace Buck, formerly of Plattsburgh, died at Knollwood Manor Nursing Home in Severna Park, Md. on Jan. 31, 2000.

He was born in Buffalo, May 22, 1905, the eldest son of Chester and May Buck.

He attended Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated in 1927 as a mechanical engineer. He was employed by Imperial Paper and Color Company in Plattsburgh and soon became the general manager. He was regarded as an expert in the manufacturing and printing of wallpaper, having designed many of the machines to produce wallpaper. He officially retired at age 70, after completing 46 years of service with the same company; however, the company continued to retain him as a consultant for an additional 10 years.

On Dec. 14. 1911, he married Beatrice Alexina Dumas of Plattsburgh. They were married for 57 years until her death in July, 1989. He subsequently married Eleanor Brooks in 1991. Eleanor died in 1993.

Mr. Buck was known and beloved throughout the North Country. He was instrumental in organizing the Industrial Management Club of Clinton County in 1966 and served as its first president. He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks for many years and had a salad named after him at the Elks Club. He was an avid Lake Champlain boater, once traveling to the World’s Fair in New York City by boat. He will be remembered as a true gentleman who had a wealth of friends.

Mr. Buck is survived by his daughter, Martha Buck Converse and his son-in law, Charles F. Converse, M.D. of Severna Park, Md. and their two children, Charles F. Converse III and Kristin Converse Barger and their spouses, Jeannie F. Converse and T. Joseph Barger. In addition, he leaves six great-grandchildren, Cole, Carli and Natalie Converse and Nate, Gavin and Keegan Barger. He is also survived by his siblings, Marion Hoopes and Chester (Sonny) Buck. Mr. Buck was predeceased by three of his siblings, Albert, Dudley and Margaret Buck.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, Court and Oak Streets, on Feb. 5, 2000, at 11 a.m.

John W. Frischmann

Cadyville — Mr. John W. Frischmann, 61, of the General LeRoy Manor Road in Cadyville, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Yonkers on Dec. 1, 1938, son of George and Sophie (Grubiak) Frischmann.

He was a graduate of Gorton High School in Yonkers and Farmingdale College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in animal husbandry. John worked as a firefighter for the City of Yonkers for 23 years before moving to the North Country in 1981. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. John was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

He is survived by his wife, Claire Frischmann of Cadyville; his parents of Yonkers; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marilyn Frischmann of Albuquerque, N. M.; a daughter, Teresa Frischmann of Vail, Colo.; two sisters, Rebecca Frischmann of Pompano, Fla. and Judy Tiplady of Yonkers; two grandchildren, Matthew John Frischmann and Jena Wood; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary, of Yonkers and four very close friends, Anthony Pinto of Yonkers, Denis Durniak of Scarsdale and Babe and Fran Boula of Pawling.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Peter’s Church in Plattsburgh.

Wallace J. Haley

DANNEMORA — Wallace J. Haley, 86, of Rt. 374 died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. He was born on Dec. 31, 1913, in Dannemora, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth Catherine (Cummings) Haley.

Wallace was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora, and married Doris Hammersley in the church rectory on April 14, 1941. Wallace served in the medical corps in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II; while in the service, he received the Eurpean-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the American Service Medal.

He was a correction officer for 37 years at the Dannemora State Hospital, retiring in June of 1972 as a Charge Officer. Wallace enjoyed his home in Dannemora and his camp on Chazy Lake; he loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Haley of Dannemora; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sydney and Sue Haley of Cadyville and Wallace and Karen Haley of Waterford; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Tom Sweeney of Morrisonville; five grandchildren, Kelly Sweeney, Melanie Gallagher, Jerry Haley, Graham Haley and Scott Haley; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Fitzgerald of Dannemora and June and Oswald Perry of Saranac; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Russell (Lucille) Haley of Dannemora; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Leon H. Haley and Russell A. Haley.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be in the spring in Independence Cemetery in Saranac.

Donations may be made to the Boy’s Town, Christmas Bureau or a charity of choice.

Leslie L. St. John

Keeseville — Leslie L. St. John, 72, formerly of Keeseville, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Epping, N. H., April 26, 1927, the son of Louis and Alice (Tarlton) St. John.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U. S. Army.

Leslie was a heavy equipment operator for Seawood Construction in Dover, N. H.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law, Shaun and Jane Sullivan of Lake Placid, Toby Hopkins of California, and Kris Trefethen of Epping, N. H.; one daughter, Mary Lou Sullivan of Jay; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Ronald "Bucky" and Hazel Ouimette of Keeseville; three sisters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Richard Gonya, Margaret and Donna; one brother, Junior; four grandchildren, Nathan, Kate, Crystal and Tara Pratt; three step-grandchildren, Sherri, Candi, Ronnie, and Holy; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lois Sullivan St. John, his second wife, Janet Ouimette St. John, and two daughters, Claudia Glidden and Kristen Pratt.

Calling hours and funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the spring in St John’s Cemetery in Keeseville.

Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Douglas J. Boyd, 37, formerly of Altona, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. Douglas was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 25, 1962, son of Melvin J. and Emma M. (Jarvis) Boyd.

Calling hours will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.

Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Helyn (Rusty) Hovey McKenna, 73, of Mirror Lake Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home, Lake Placid, with a Bible vigil service at 8:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, Lake Placid, with the Rev. Michael Gaffney celebrating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Donations may be made to St. Agnes School in her memory.

Henry L. LaFlesh, 80, of LaFlesh Road, North Bangor, died Feb. 2, 2000, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center, Malone. He was born in West Bangor, June 2, 1919, the son of George and Hilda (Collins) LaFlesh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Augustine’s Church, North Bangor, with the Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Stephen’s Cemetery, Skerry.

Bernard D. Davison

Mooers — Bernard D. Davison, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2000 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He had all of his loving family members by his side. He was born at home in Mooers Forks on Oct. 26, 1937, the son of the late Clarence and Florence (LaValley) Davison.

Bernie worked at Wyeth - Ayerst and retired in December of 1995 after 37 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed playing softball and being with his family and friends. He loved hunting, fishing and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Dodgers, Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Black Hawks.

He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Giroux of Plattsburgh; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Wendy Davison of Mooers Forks; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Gilbert Brassard of Mooers; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sue Davison of Mooers Forks; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Theresa Davison of Mooers; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Laura Davison of Mooers Forks; a daughter and a son, Sandy and Daniel Davison of Mooers Forks. Thirteen grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Davison, Tori, Dayna, Geana, Benjimen, and Marcey Brassard, Brandie and Dustin Bowman, Cory and Jamie Davison and Jeramie and Joshua Davison, all of Mooers and Mooers Forks. He is also survived by a sister and brother -in-law, Georgette and Paul Babbie of Newcomb; a brother and sister-in law, Roger and Ann Davison of Albany; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Clarence Prevo of Syracuse; a sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Bernard LeClair of Crown Point; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Gerald Duteau of Hemmingford, Quebec; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Jean Davison of Syracuse; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Vikki Davison of Mooers Forks; a brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Carmen Davison of Point Au Roche and two sister-in-laws, Lucy Mayo of Champlain and Mary Lou Davison of Syracuse; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Gerald and Daniel Davison; and a grandson, Gibby Lee Brassard.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Mooers Forks. Burial will be in the spring at St. Ann's Cemetery in Mooers Forks.

Loretta Agnes (Fessette) Russell

Kentfield, Calif. — Loretta Agnes (Fessette) Russell of Goodhill Road, Kentfield, Calif., died unexpectedly on Jan. 10, 2000. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Russell was born April 7, 1910 in Sciota, the sixth child of Peter and Mary (Burke) Fessette. She attended St. John's Academy in Plattsburgh and went on to graduate from Champlain Valley School of Nursing in 1934.

Loretta's nursing career began at Physician's Hospital in Plattsburgh where she became Supervisor of Obstetrics. It was there that she met her future husband, Carroll Russell, who was an intern. They were married in November of 1937. Following Dr. Russell's graduation from McGill University in 1938, they moved to California. Mrs. Russell continued her obstetrical nursing at Children's Hospital in San Francisco.

Mrs. Russell and her husband returned to the East Coast in 1942. Dr. Russell was sent overseas and Mrs. Russell returned to Plattsburgh and continued her nursing career until her husband's return from the war in 1945. Following World War II, Dr. and Mrs. Russell returned to California, eventually settling in Marin County.

She is survived by her loving husband; her son, Michael of Kentfield, Calif.; her daughter, Suzie Giacomini of Reno, Nev.; two granddaughters, Katie and Kristen Giacomini of Reno, Nev.; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Fessette of Chazy; two nieces, Nancy Abell of Camp Springs, Md. and Kathy Relaford of Morrisonville; and two grand-nieces, Tiana Relaford of Glens Falls, and Kyla Relaford of Morrisonville.

Private arrangements have been made by the family.

Edith Madden

Jay — Edith Madden, 82, of Elmwood Street, Jay, died at her home, Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. She was born Sept. 15, 1917 in Manhattan, Long Island, the daughter of Frank and Jennie (Turner) Boswell.

Edith was a member of the American Legion Ladies-Auxiliary Post 390 in Hempstead, Long island. She was a former employee at the Woolworths Store in Manhattan, Long Island. For several years she was the secretary at the North Pole in Wilmington. Edith was also secretary of the Vestry Committee at St. James Episcopal Church, AuSable Forks and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth F. Madden of Jay, whom she married June 24, 1939 in the Episcopal Church, St. Albans, Long Island. A son and daughter-in-law, Keith C. and Joan G. Madden of South Hempstead, Long Island. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and Larry Gumlaw of AuSable Forks, Aleta M. and Lemuel "Bucky" Baker of Keeseville; five grandchildren; Lori Ann Dewitt, Scott H. Madden, Heath C. Baker, Lance K. Baker and Amanda Baker. Two great-grandchildren, Michael Anthony Dewitt and Brandon M. Dewitt.

Visitation hours will be Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home, AuSable Forks. The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 504 will hold a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, AuSable Forks.

Memorials in her name may be made to the AuSable Forks Free Library, P.O. Box. 179, AuSable Forks, N.Y. 12912.

Mary G. Cross

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Mary G. Cross, 87, formerly of D'Youville Apartments, died Tuesday Feb. 1, 2000 at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 21, 1912 the daughter of the late Zephyrine and Emma (Giroux) Caron.

Mary was a member of the Plattsburgh Senior Citizens, several Bingo clubs and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Cross Sr., in 1981; two brothers, Anthony Caron and George Caron; two sisters, Edith Gainer and Florence Kick.

Mary is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, James A. and Alida Cross of Clarksville, Tenn., Leo S. and Constance Cross of Port Kent, John E. and Doris Cross of Freemont, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Beryl Caron of Plattsburgh, Anna Caron of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. only at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church.

Interment will be in the Port Douglas Cemetery in Port Douglas.

Oliea C. Reinhart

Plattsburgh — Mrs. Oliea C. Reinhart, 75, of Twin Circle died Monday Jan. 31, 2000 at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Plattsburgh on Oct. 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Raymond and Agnes (Garrow) Mary.

Oliea made her home in Pequannock, N.J. before moving to Plattsburgh in 1989. She was a member of the North End Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing Bingo. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William Reinhart of Plattsburgh; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Frank Tobin of Homosassa, Fla., Louis and Marie Mary of Plattsburgh, Raymond and Virginia Mary of Plattsburgh; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys Jock of Plattsburgh, Grace and Raymond Bessette of Plattsburgh, Loretta and Lawrence Clukey of Florida, Rosalea and Randall McClatchie of Florida, Agnes Chester of Plattsburgh, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours and funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at a later date in St. Peters Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home Plattsburgh.

James H. Finnegan

Keeseville - James H. Finnegan, 70, of Main Street, Keeseville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Keeseville, March 25, 1929, the son of Frank T. and Margaret (Laundree) Finnegan.

He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952.

He married the former Carolyn Graves, Jan. 8, 1955 at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.

Jim was the Mayor of Keeseville for 14 years, serving until his death.

He was a member of Troop B of the New York State Police, and then became a correction officer working at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

He then became involved in the insurance field working with Retail Credit Company, Glens Falls Insurance, and Hartford Insurance. He then purchased Donald Fox Insurance, and it became Fox - Finnegan Insurance. Following a merger with Rose and Kiernan, he continued working until his retirement in 1997.

He was a charter member of the Keeseville BPOE 2072, also was Past Exalted Ruler, past secretary, and past State Vice President. He was a member of the Keeseville Knights of Columbus 4689, a charter member of the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge 2390, and a member of the American Legion 504 in AuSable Forks.

Jim served as Chairman of the Keeseville Youth Commission Board for many years. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agency Association of New York and a member of the Liaison Committee of Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Finnegan of Keeseville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lynn and Roger Hathaway of Keeseville, Laurie and Peter Kowalowski of Saranac, and Betsy Finnegan LaMere of Keeseville; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Stephen and Lisa Finnegan, and Michael and Tonia, all of Keeseville, Bruce Finnegan, and his companion, Kevin Shenton, both of Plattsburgh, Shawn and Bonnita Finnegan of Keeseville, and James Finnegan, and his fiance, Tabatha Foley; three sisters, Elizabeth Light, and Gertrude Greene, both of Catskill, and Agnes Smith of Waterville, Maine; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Geraldine Finnegan of Plattsburgh, and Dunedin, Fla., and Charles "Skip" and Janis Finnegan of Lake George; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One granddaughter, Stephanie Finnegan; and three sisters, Dorothy Holden, Edna Brown, and Martha Meschinelli predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. The Village employees will meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. in uniform. The following organizations will meet at the funeral home Thursday evening at their designated times, the Keeseville Knights of Columbus 4689 at 7 p.m., the Keeseville Fire Department at 7:30 p.m., the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge 2390 at 8 p.m., and the Keeseville BPOE 2072 at 8:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Elks National Foundation.

Ruth (Dude) Currier, 86, died at her residence on the Station Road, Willsboro, Jan. 30, 2000. She was born in Willsboro, May 14, 1913 the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Bridge) Sayward.

Calling hours were held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 at her home on Station Road. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, also at her home with the Reverend Eileen Deming officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Willsboro, in the spring. Huestis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JEAN LAPIERRE COVONE, 55, passed away Jan. 27, 2000 in Port Jefferson Station, Long Island.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 31, 2000.

Wallace J. Haley, 86, of Route 374, Dannemora, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home.

Calling hours will be held Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Burial will be in the spring in Independence Cemetery in Saranac.

Mr. John W. Frischmann, 61, of the General LeRoy Manor Road, Cadyville, died Tuesday Feb. 1, 2000 at the CVPH Medical Center.

Ida Longtemps, age 88, of 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000 here at her home.

Calling hours will be at the Fortune - Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday Feb. 2, 2000 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A bible vigil service will take place Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 at St. Bernard Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

Roy Fleury

WESTPORT — Roy Fleury, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home in Westport.

He was born Sept. 13, 1920, the son of John A. and Mary (Sausville) Fleury, the third of five children.

Mr. Fleury served in the U.S. Army Airforce in the pacific Theatre during World War II. He had 1,200 hours of combat service. He was a top turret gunner in a B-24 in the Pacific and was stationed in Okinawa during the signing of the Peace Treaty. He retired as an Army Airforce sergeant.

He also served as an aircraft electronic engineer, restoring World War II airplanes after the war from 1949 to 1951 in California, Texas and Kansas.

He was also licensed in explosives. He worked on Interstate 87 as a heavy-equipment operator and was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers of Albany and the U.S. Trotting Association.

He was also a member of American Legion Post 551 of Elizabethtown and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1505 in Keeseville. He was an avid woodsman and a certified hunting and fishing guide, being the youngest licensed guide in New York state.

He was a horse breeder and trader of Hay Fever Farms.

Mr. Fleury is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve Fleury of Westport, D. Wayne and Rachel Fleury of Manassas, Va., and John Michael Fleury of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Shannon Fleury of Westport; two brothers, James Fleury of Plattsburgh and Raymond Fleury of Westport; three granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2000, from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the W.M. Marvin’s Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown.

Henry F. White

Henry F. White, 77, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on March 13, 1922, the son of Oscar and Grace (Mousseau) White Sr.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. He was employed as a cook and orderly at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora for several years.

A member of Mooers American Legion Post 538 for more than 50 years, he served in several posts, including post commander. He was treasurer of the legion at the time of his death. He also served as county commander of the Clinton County American Legion and was a Clinton County Legionnaire of the Year.

He was a member of the Champlain Masonic Lodge #237 for more than 50 years, serving in many different capacities. He was also the Deputy Grand Master of the Clinton District. Henry was also a member of Miramamichi Dawn Chapter 520 of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 40 years and served in many capacities. He also served as Clinton and Essex District Grand Lecturer of the O.E.S.

He was a past president of the Clinton County Office of the Aging and past president of the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County. In September 1991, he and his wife, Viola, were recognized by the Clinton County Office of the Aging as "living treasures." In 1988, he received the Liberty Bell award from the Clinton County Bar Association. At the 15th annual Northern Tier Chamber of Commerce Winter Carnival, the White’s were named King and Queen.

He was nominated by the New York State Office of the Aging for the Louise B. Garrand National Award in 1992. He was a member of the R.S.V.P., working as a volunteer driver, and the Nutrition Drop-in Center Program for many years.

Without Henry’s motivation, dedication and love for the town of Mooers, there would not have been the William C. Watson Senior Housing Home. He also served as president of the Mooers Senior Housing, at which a room was dedicated in his honor.

He was named Clinton County Senior Citizen of the Year by the county legislature and Office of the Aging. In 1988, he received the Albert LaFountain President’s Award from Mooers Fire Department. He was a life member of the Champlain V.F.W. Post 1418 and Mooers United Methodist Church.

He will be dearly missed by his entire family.

Survivors include his wife, the former Viola Watts, whom he married Oct. 10, 1942; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary White of Mooers; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice "Dolly" and Larry Dumas of Mooers; a brother, Leeward R. White of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Grace Hewson and Mildred Boyd, both of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Ricky and Catherine Dumas of Mooers, Larry and Bonnie White of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Barry and Tammy White of Rouses Point, David Dumas and Lori Dumas, both of Mooers, Lisa and Louis Fuentes of Miami, Fla. and Snow Ann White of Mooers; three great-grandsons, Kenneth Boire of Chazy, Joshua and Justin White of Fort Knox, Ky.; six great granddaughters, Cara and Madison Dumas of Mooers, Krista and Lauren White of Rouses Point, Kayla White of Fort Knox, Ky., Ashley Lisa White Fuentes of Miami, Fla; several nieces and nephews.

Henry and Viola also cared for more than 35 foster children.

His parents, two brothers, Oscar and Joe, and two sisters, Ida and Adline, died before him.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers.

The Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge held services Sunday.

The Champlain V.F.W. Post 1418 will meet at 7:30 tonight for services followed by the Mooers American Legion Post 538 at 7:45 p.m. and Mooers Fire Department and Rescue Squad at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mooers United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Northrup officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mooers Fire Department and Rescue Squad or Mooers American Legion.

William C. Shackett, 87, of 52 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died suddenly Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Adirondack Medical Center, Lake Placid.

He was born in Saranac Lake July 21, 1912. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Shackett was manager of the Lake Placid Airport for 17 years, retiring in 1958.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid with the Rev. Mark Demers, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid.

Memorial donations may be made to the Oriental Shrine or the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Floyd L. Thompson

Ticonderoga — Floyd L. Thompson, 72, of Vineyard Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2000, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Ticonderoga, Dec. 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Carroll and Ada (Sharpe) Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a lifetime Ticonderoga resident. He was employed by the Village of Ticonderoga for many years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks 1494 of Ticonderoga.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley F. (Thatcher) Thompson; two sons, Carl W. Thompson and Cory J. Thompson, both of Ticonderoga; three daughters, Diane L. Aronowitz of Clifton Park, Lisa K. Huestis and Julie A. Hurlburt, both of Ticonderoga; one sister, Lenna Hebert of Madison, Ohio; and one brother, Clyde Thompson of Ft. Myers, Fla. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 33 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. The Elks will conduct ritualistic services on Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Paul L. Dufford, Jr., Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.

Beatrice L. McMurtry

Elizabethtown — Beatrice L. McMurtry, 83, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000.

She was born Beatrice Lena Ferris in Jay, Sept. 4, 1916, the daughter of Sydney and Mildred (Rivers) Ferris.

She is survived by four daughters, Mildred Paquette of Westport, Mrs. Sylvia Drew of Elizabethtown, Mrs. Gloria Pfund of Westport and Mrs. Trudy Marvin of Elizabethtown; one son, Philip J. Forbes of Keene; two sisters, Jean Banyas of Otisville, Mich. and Rita Ranson of Germantown; one brother, Bernard Ferris of Gibsonton, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Harry McMurtry, who died in 1979; two sisters, Helen Christian and Frances Ferris; three brothers, David, Sydney and Walter Ferris; and one grandson, Eric Pfund, who died at infancy.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. at W. M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Monsignor Peter Rianni will conduct the service. Burial will be held in St. Elizabeth's cemetery in the spring.

Aldelbert "Bert" Campbell

PLATTSBURGH — Adelbert "Bert" Campbell, 84, of Nichols Ave. died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Edwards on June 10, 1915, the son of James and Hazel (Woods) Campbell.

Bert was commissioned into the Army Air Corp in 1942 and served as a pilot with the 490th Bomb Squadron "Burma Bridge Busters" and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Air Force Reserve in 1975.

Following his return from active duty in 1946, Bert established a flying service at the Plattsburgh Municipal Airport which he operated for two years.

In 1948 he began a career as an investment broker that spanned over 50 years. During this time, he served his North Country clients through a number of brokerage firms, including IDS and AM Kidder. He managed the Plattsburgh branch office of First Albany Corp. for 25 years, and at the time of his death was Senior Account Executive with Campbell-Bougill Investment Services.

Bert was dedicated to his community; he was a 33-year member of Rotary International and a member of the Elks Club and Masonic Lodge. Over many years, he served on committees and boards at the United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.

Bert was a avid fisherman and hunter he loved sharing his enthusiasm for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Elizabeth (Gowett) Campbell of Plattsburgh, whom he married on October 3, 1942; two sons, James F. Campbell of Colchester, Vt. and Gregory B. Campbell of Keeseville; two daughters, Cynthia A. Kielon of Fairport and Patricia M. Saskowicz of Glenville; one brother, Durwood Gary Campbell of Harvard Fla.; one sister-in-law, Janice Randall Campbell of Ingleside, Ill.; and 14 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, James M. Campbell.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Herman Cemetery in Herman in the spring.
