Ruth Gordon
CHAZY—Ruth Gordon Fisher, 93, a life long
resident of Chazy and recently of Meadowbrook Healthcare died at the
CVPH Medical Center on Jan. 13, 2000. She was born in West Chazy on
July 20, 1906 the daughter of Frederick and Rosa (Gaining) Gordon.
She was married to William Fisher also of
Chazy who predeceased her. She was a home-maker and enjoyed gardening
and knitting very much.
She is survived by three sisters, Hazel
Gordon Russo of Plattsburgh, Grace Gordon of Chazy and Helen Gordon
Breitenbach of Chazy; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother Arthur Frederick Gordon
predeceased her.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral
services will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the R.W.
Walker Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Prudy Bertolino, Pastor of
Three Steeples Methodist Church. Interment will be in the spring.
Contributions in her memory may be made to
the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department.
Dorothy M. Jerry Roberts
PLATTSBURGH—Dorothy M. Jerry Roberts, 95,
of Cedar Hedge Nursing Home and formerly of 9 Battery St., died
Thursday Jan. 13, 2000 at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in
Peru on July 26, 1904, the daughter of Max and Retha (Annis) Patro.
Mrs. Roberts worked at the Physicians
Hospital Pharmacy for many years, and also did private home care in
the Plattsburgh area. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in W.
Chazy.
Survivors include three sons, Paul Jerry
and his wife, Helen of Cadyville, James Jerry and his wife, Jean of
Lockport and Jack Jerry and his wife, Bernice of Valcour; two
daughters, Mrs. Lillian Barrows of Orange City, Fla. and Mrs. Leonard
(Patricia) Nicolosi of Lakehurst, N.J.; 16 grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband,
Laurence A. Jerry in 1949, and her second husband, Harold E. Roberts
in 1958, two sons, Albert E. Jerry in 1970 and Leland L. Jerry in
1981.
Private calling hours will be held for the
family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m.
at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will be in the parish
cemetery in the spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the
Multiple Sclerosis Society of Northern New York or the American Heart
Association in memory of Laurence Albert and Leland Jerry.
Irene A Demarais
Ellenburg Depot—Irene A Demarais, 92,
died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 at her residence.
She was born in Sciota on Aug. 7, 1907, the
daughter of Frank and Louise (Taylor) LaFlore.
She was a member of St. Edmund's Church in
Ellenburg.
She is survived by three sons and
daughters-in-law, Floyd and Shirley Demarais of Ellenburg Depot, Carl
and Virginia Demarais Sr. of Tupper Lake, Robert and Ann Demarais of
Colton; a daughter, Rena Rabideau of Queensbury; a daughter-in-law,
Geraldine Demarais of Amenia; five sisters, Evelyn Deso of Sciota,
Sadie Guay of Rouses Point, Margaret Speranza of Sciota, Helen Brown
of Peru, Gladys Deso of Sciota; 20 grandchildren; 38
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Noah Demarais died in 1980. A
son, Harold Demarais, a daughter and son-in-law, Ruelah and Albert
Ashline Jr.; two sisters, Grace Demarais and Mabel LaPlante; and a
son-in-law, Homer Rabideau also died earlier.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg
Depot. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday
from St. Edmund's Church in Ellenburg. Burial will follow in
Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Allen W. Plymale
Albion — Allen W. Plymale, resident of
Dannemora from 1981 to 1984, died of a heart attack here Dec. 23,
1999.
He was a teacher at Clinton Main
Correctional Facility from 1981 to 1984. Plymale then moved to Beacon.
He was Director of Volunteer Services at Fishkill CF and, after 1986,
Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion.
He retired from the NYS Department of
Correctional Services in 1995. After retiring he was the Supervising
Case Manager for the Action for A Better Community AIDS program in
Rochester. More recently Plymale was a counselor at the Iroquois Job
Corps in Medina.
He was an active member of the Baha'i
Faith. He also worked for the Boy Scouts of America, and was the
president of the board of the Mental Health Association of Orleans
County. He was also instrumental in founding the Martin Luther King
Scholarship Committee there.
Plymale was born in Endicott in 1942 and
grew up in Vestal. He started his career as an educator and founded
and operated a nursery school and kindergarten from 1974-1980 in
Endicott with his wife Barbara Martin Plymale.
In addition to his wife he is survived by
eight children and five grandchildren.
Norma Favreau
BEEKMANTOWN — Norma Favreau, 54, died
Friday, January 14, 2000 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Keene, on January 31, 1945,
the daughter of Gilbert and Evelyn (Ashe) Spoor.
She graduated from Beckmantown Central
School in 1964.
She was formerly employed by the Four
Corners Restaurant, Arpak Plastics and was the Manager of Toyco
Recreation until becoming disabled in 1992.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L.
Favreau, who she married on February 26,1945, one son, Danny J.
Favreau of Mooers; two daughters, Tina J. Dezan and her companion,
Keith Garrow of West Chazy, Lisa A. Favreau of West Chazy; six
grandchildren, Ashley Dezan, Travis Dezan and Ryan Dezan, Michael
Favreau, Kurt Boyea and Kerrie Favreau all of West Chazy; four
brothers and three sister-in-laws, Richard and Carol Spoor, Curtis
Spoor, Wendell and Betty Spoor and Darrel and Fannie Spoor all of West
Chazy; five sisiters and three brothers-in-laws, Fayola Smith of
Plattsburgh, June Taylor of Upper Jay, Betty and Roger Blake of West
Chazy, Lenora and Chet Perkins of Roanoke In., and Wilma and Tony
Guillily of West Chazy; her mother-in-law, Ella M. Favreau of
Morrisonville; and two great- aunts and uncles, Iona and Carlos Brand
of Peru and Eunice and Warren Ashe of Keene; several nieces and
nephews also survive.
She loved to go for rides and get out of
the house whenever she could. She enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee
with her friends and had a heck of a time doing it.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden- Drown Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh.Funeral services will be field on Monday at 1 p.m. at the
Funeral Home Entombment will follow in Whispering Maples Memorial
Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.
Dorothy Colby
LAKE PLACID — Dorothy Colby, 74, of 74
Sentinel Road, Lake Placid, died Friday, January 14, 2000 at the
Adirondack Medical Canter, Saranac Lake. She was born in Brattleboro,
Vt., March 7, 1925, the daughter of Hillard and Julia (Daha) Hayes.
She had been a resident of Lake Placid
since 1944. Her husband, James F. Colby passed away in Lake Placid,
November, 1979. Mrs. Colby is survived by four sons; James M., Thomas
P., Donald M., and Hayes Colby all of Lake Placid. She is also
survived by two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Frederick
Betters and Nancy and Michael Scott, both of Lake Placid. There are
also three sisters-in-laws, Phyllis Colby, Barbara Colby and Louis*
Hayes; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces
and nephews.
Friends may call at Clark Funeral Home in
Lake Placid Sunday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be
held Monday morning, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Adirondack
Community Church in Lake Placid with the Rev. James Borley
officiating. Burial will be in the North Elba Cemetery. The family

Gertrude J. Ashline
Morrisonville
— Gertrude J. Ashline, 64, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000 at the CVPH
Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Champlain on Sept. 23,
1935, the daughter of Alfred and Velida (King) Mesick.
She was
employed at Treber's Clothing Factory in Keeseville for many years and
later was employed at Brush-Tech in Plattsburgh for several years
until her disability. She was a former member of the Peru V.F.W. Post
309 Ladies Auxillary.
She is
survived by five sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel Ashline of West
Chazy, Carl Ashline Jr. of Peru, Mark and Debbie Ashline of Virginia
Beach, Va., Eugene Ashline of Plattsburgh, Myron and Melissa Ashline
of Plattsburgh; her companion of 22 years, Harold Baker of
Morrisonville, a brother, Sam Mesick of Omaha, Ne., five sisters and
three brothers-in-law, Mildred and Don Reynolds of Lincoln, Neb.,
Joyce Barcomb of Chittenango, Orva Bouyea of Central Square, Betty and
Yeve Bordeau of Hemmingford, Quebec, Alfreda and Richard Miller of
West Chazy, a sister-in-law, Naomi Harvey of Rouses Point, 11
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband,
Carl E. Ashline Sr. died on Nov. 26, 1975. A grandson, Aaron Lee
Ashline, died Oct. 21, 1988 and a granddaughter, Kimberley Ashline,
died Oct. 31, 1985. A sister also died earlier.

Beatrice Bates
Plattsburgh
— Beatrice Bates, 95, formerly of the Rooney Road in West Chazy,
died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000 at the Clinton County Nursing Home in
Plattsburgh. Beatrice was born in Charlotte, Vt. on July 11, 1904,
daughter of Charles and Edna (Parker) Terry.
Beatrice had
worked for many years at Imperial Wall Paper in Plattsburgh. She was a
member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh, St. Joseph's Church in
West Chazy and Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Beatrice was
a member of the Rosary Society at Our Lady of Victory Church, she was
a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella 669, a member of the
Senior Citizen's at Robert S. Long Apartments, a member of the Golden
Age and a member of the North American Benefit association, formerly
known as W.B.A. Beatrice enjoyed knitting and sewing.
Beatrice is
survived by a daughter and son in law, Winifred P. and Lawrence Darrah
of Cadyville, two sons and daughters in law, Terry T. and Theresa
Bates of West Chazy, Thomas Neil and Nancy Bates of Beekmantown, a
sister, Doris Lippolis of Endicott, fifteen grandchildren, ten
great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Truman J. Bates,
a son, Stephen C. Bates and two brothers, Donald Terry and Earl Terry.
Calling hours
will be Friday evening from 7-9 at the Brown Funeral Home in
Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday
morning at 9 a.m. from Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh.

John C. Hamilton
Keeseville
— John C. Hamilton, 86, of Auger Lake, died peacefully Thursday,
Jan. 13, 2000, at the Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Palm Beach
Gardens, Fla.
He was born
in Covey Hill, Canada, June 24, 1913, the son of Lester and Florence
Hamilton.
He attended
school in Ellenburg, He wrestled for St. Lawrence University and
received his Master's Degree from Springfield, Massachusetts. He was
inducted in to the St. Lawrence Hall of Fame for wrestling.
He entered
the Air Force in 1945 and served as a fighter pilot and physical
trainer on the Eastern Seaboard prior to being honorably discharged.
He was
"Coach" to everyone in Lyon Mountain whom he taught for 35
years before retiring in 1974. He coached baseball, basketball,
wrestling, cross-country and soccer and won many Sectional
Championships throughout his career.
John was a
baseball umpire for the New York State Umpires Association and enjoyed
watching young players grow up to play town teams and leagues. He was
rarely seen without his New York Yankees hat, a dedicated fan for many
years!
He worked on
the Adirondack boats at AuSable Chasm for 40 summers. "Frank
Buck," as his family knew him, loved to hunt and fish, His
greatest joy was to spend time in his camp at Owl's Read.
John leaves
his wife, the former Connie McCormick; two sons and a daughter-in-law,
John Luke Hamilton, and Jay and Raune Anne Hamilton, all of
Keeseville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Cassandra and John Bronson
of West Chazy, Noli Bingel and Henry See of Plattsburgh, Ruby and Dan
Salley of Keeseville, Lisa and Dave Hoff of Chateaugay Lake, and Darcy
and Kyle Castine of Champlain; one brother, Donald Hamilton of
Florida; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was
predeceased by two sons, Chris Hamilton, January 12, 1998, and Daniel
Hamilton in 1947; his parents; and one sister, Kathryn Baker.

will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hamilton
Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be
celebrated Monday, at 10 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church in

ELIZABETHTOWN Julia (Judy)
A. McLean Talbot died Tuesday Jan. 11, 2000 at the age of 57 at the Fletcher Allen
Healthcare in Burlington, Vt. She was born on April 2, 1942 in Keeseville, the daughter of
the late Ida and Reginald McLean.
Judy (Ma) had a heart of gold and
touched many lives. Some of her greatest joys in her life were her family, friends, and
being outdoors.
She is survived by her five
children; two daughters, Dawn Dean of New Milford, Conn., and Sheryl Turner of Rockhill,
S.C.; three sons, Ronald Bickford of New Preston, Conn., Clinton Bickford of Ashford,
Conn., and David Bickford of Elizabethtown; ten grandchildren, her ten brothers and
sisters; brothers: Clyde, William, James, Robert, Gerald, and Everett McLean, four
sisters, Mary Nichols, Helen Williams, Sonia Powers and Rena Decker.
She was predeceased by her
brother, Merrill McLean.

Lloyd J. Leahy
MALONE Lloyd J. Leahy, 81,
of 15929 State Route 30, Constable, was pronounced dead Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at the
Alice Hyde Medical Center. Born April 17, 1918 in Cabri, Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the
son of Thomas and Mabel Sylvester Leahy. They predeceased him.
He married Rita M. Fleury January
7, 1952 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Constable. She survives.
Besides his wife of 47 years, he
is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: Thomas and Sue (Ryan) Leahy, Timothy
and Heidi (Barnes) Leahy, Michael Leahy, all of Constable, and Brian and Donna (Correll)
Leahy of Springs, Texas; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Debra and Bob Sullivan of
Roanoke, Va., Brenda and Wayne Jarvis, Constable, and Shelly Leahy of Lake Placid; one
sister: Irene Gaulin of Manlius, and 12 grandchildren.
Besides his parents, a twin
brother, Lawrence Leahy, predeceased him.
He moved to the United States
when he was five years old. He lived most of his life in Constable and attended schools in
Constable and Franklin Academy in Malone. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941 and served
with Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He returned to Constable and worked with his father in his carpentry business and later
started his own carpentry business. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi Church, honorary member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Council, charter member
of the Knights of Columbus, past member of the Constable Fire Dept., former member of the
Malone Lodge of Moose and volunteer worker for Habitat for Humanity.
There will be no calling hours. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at 11 a.m. in St.
Francis of Assisi Church with Rev. Garry Giroux officiating. Spring burial will take place
in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.

Wilmington Pearl
Richardson, 89, of Route 86, Wilmington, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the CVPH Medical
Center, Plattsburgh. She was born in Greensboro, Vt., Aug. 30, 1910 the daughter of Ruben
and Lona "Jordan" Curtis.
For several years she was a
School Bus Driver for Lake Placid School and AuSable Forks Central Rural School. She also
was the mail carrier for several years. Past Matron for the Lebanon Chapter of the Order
of Eastern Star of AuSable Forks, Pearl was a volunteer fop RSVP of Essex County for 15
years; lifetime member of Wilmington Regional Visitors Bureau; member of Wilmington PAL
Club, member of the Whiteface Community United Methodist Church of Wilmington, serving as
Communion Steward for 25 years.
Survived by two daughters and
sons-in-law: Joanne and Thomas Zaumetzer of Wilmington; Shirley and Almon Ward of
WinterHaven, Fla.; her companion and travel partner for several years, Gerald Bruce of
Wilmington; eight grandchildren, David Zaumetzer, Rodney Zaumetzer, Lynn Abbott, Sherry
Sittnick, Ricky Ward, Heidi Ward, Todd Ward and Jonathan Ward and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Clyde Richardson
died Dec. 17, 1982.

held Friday 10 a.m. at the Whiteface Community United Methodist Church, Wilmington with

Joyce M. Rennell
Plattsburgh Joyce M.
Rennell 73, of Deon Way, Plattsburgh, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the CVPH Medical
Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in AuSable Forks, Jan. 29, 1926, the daughter of Eddie
and Salinda (Besaw) Baker.
Joyce was a cook at the Holiday
Inn in Plattsburgh for a time. She enjoyed needlecraft, crocheting, and bingo.
Survivors include three daughters
and two sons-in-law, Mary and Roland Lamkins of Cadyville, Toni Baker and her fiance,
Michael Whalen of Plattsburgh, and Debbie and James Daggett of Yorktown, Va.; one brother,
Roland Baker of Peru; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Baker, and Genevieve Baker, both of
Keeseville; seven grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in

Pearl M. Meron
PLATTSBURGH Pearl M.
Meron, 80, of LaFayette Street, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 at the Evergreen Valley
Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Ellenburg on Sept. 13, 1919, daughter of Noah
and Myra (Garrand) Glode.
Pearl was a member of St. Peter's
Church in Plattsburgh and was an avid BINGO player.
Pearl is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Dale and Jody Meron of Plattsburgh, a daughter and two sons-in-law, Carol
and Michael Gregory of Morrisonville, Lee Penry of Omaha, Neb; a brother and
sister-in-law, Floyd and Alice Glode of Rouses Point; a sister, Faye Brown of Plattsburgh,
seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her daughter, Caroline Penry,
died on the same day and her husband, Francis Meron, died in 1979.

Holliday, 43, of Mansfield St. died Friday Jan. 7, 2000 at his home. He was born in
Parkersburg, W.Va.; son of Carrol and Claterree (Lucas) Holliday.
He was a graduate of Brandon High
School in Brandon, Fla. in 1974. He worked for Harvey and Company in Chazy for 10 years.
He is survived by his son, Steven
Holliday Jr. of Peru, his father and step-mother, Carrol and Kathy Holliday of Mooers; his
mother, Claterree Holliday of Thonotosassa, Fla.; one brother and a sister-in-law, David
and Brenda Holliday of Plattsburgh; one sister, Theresa Holliday of Bryan, Texas; a
step-sister, Penny Vancour of Champlain; two step-brothers, Shawn Vancour of Altona and
Travis Vancour of Mooers.

Paul Arthur Frederick Koehler

Frederick Koehler, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 at Meadowbrook Health Care. He was born
on Sept. 22, 1911 in Bethlehem, Pa. Mr. Koehler was the son of the late Frederick Koehler
and Elizabeth Gleim Koehler. He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Ardine
Vaughan, they were married Aug. 29, 1939. Mr. Koehler was a wonderful, giving, thoughtful,
man who had a sense of humor, a feisty mind and spirit, and he will be deeply missed by
all those he touched.
Mr. Koehler is survived by his
sister, Ruth Koehler Hinkle of Haselton, Pa. Mr. Koehler is also survived by his three
children, daughter Vaughan Koehler Brown of Antigua, West Indies, and sons Paul John
Koehler of Saranac Lake and Bart Norval Koehler of Durango, Colo. He had six grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren. Family members include; Julie Koehler, Dr. Thomas F. Brown,
D.V.M., Tom Brown, Linda Donovan of Westford, Mass., Doug and Carolyn Metcalf of Westford,
Mass., Cathy and Al Hausner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tom and Sarah Brown of
Plattsburgh, Jamie Koehler of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Echo Fuller. Great-grandchildren
include Morgan, Jenny and Kate Donovan, Robert, Lindsay and Jack Metcalf, and Shane
Hausner.
He was a talented and giving
Music Educator who taught for over 40 years. He taught at West Chester State Teachers
College, Pa., Columbia University, in Bellport, N.Y., Harrison, N.Y., Great Neck, N.Y.,
and Fulton-Montgomery Community College in N.Y. After retiring to Plattsburgh he developed
many hobbies. He enjoyed living on the lake, bird watching, crossword puzzles, and
especially bird carving.
Mr. Koehler was an avid bird
carver of both large and small birds and carved until the day he passed away. It was an
important source of strength and inspiration to him. He has won several awards over the
years some of which recently include a first place from Downeast Woodcarving and Wildlife
Show and a third place from The 1998 New England Woodcarving and Wildlife Art Exposition.
He was recently completing a series on different raptors. Mr. Koehler was a lover of the
music, literature, and arts. He was a strong supporter of the Arts Council, donated his
musical instruments to local schools, and was a member of Peru Community Church.
A private service will be held
with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and close friends present to
celebrate his life, at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Meron, 80, of LaFayette Street, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 at the Evergreen Valley
Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. She was born in Ellenburg on September 13, 1919, daughter of
Noah and Myra (Garrand) Glode.
Pearl was a member of St.
Peters Church in Plattsburgh and was an avid BINGO player.
Pearl is survived by a son and
daughter-in-law, Dale and Jody Meron of Plattsburgh, a daughter and two sons-in-law, Carol
and Michael Gregory of Morrisonville, Lee Penry of Omaha, Neb; a brother and
sister-in-law, Floyd and Alice Glode of Rouses Point; a sister, Faye Brown of Plattsburgh,
seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her daughter, Caroline Penry,
died on the same day and her husband, Francis Meron, died in 1979.

Nesbitt, 81, of the Moses-Ludington Nursing Home of Ticonderoga and formerly of Pine
Street passed away Sunday, January 9, 2000 at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga.
She was born December 15, 1918,
in Shoreham, Vt.
Mrs. Nesbitt has been a resident
of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was employed by the Green Thumb Program of
Ticonderoga.
Her husband, Clarence R. Nesbitt
died before her in 1968. She was also pre-deceased by her mother, Martha Trainor; two
daughters, Betty Snow Swan and Shirley Kelly Moore, and two brothers, Herbert Trainor and
Fred Carey.
Survivors include one son,
Raymond R. Nesbitt of Port Henry; three daughters, Connie M. Capen of Rutland, Vt, Nancy
J. Robbins of Ticonderoga, and Beverly A. Laing of Moriah; one brother, Arthur Trainor of
Ticondergoa; and one sister, Marion Conlon of Ticonderoga. She is also survived by 28
grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Breen, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Meadowbrook Healthcare following a long
illness.
Born in Albany on Dec. 24, 1914,
she was the daughter of Gerald and Norine (McGaughan) Breen.
Dr. Breen earned a Bachelor of
Science degree from New York State College for Teachers, Albany, a Master of Arts and
Doctor of Education from the University of Buffalo.
She was a teacher-librarian at
the New York State Training School for Girls in Buffalo from 1941 to 1944 and assistant
librarian at State University College for Teachers in Buffalo from 1944 to 1955. She
served as director of libraries at State University of New York, Plattsburgh, from 1955 to
1973.
A member of the religious
congregation of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary, Dr. Breen accepted an assignment as
director of the congregations Nazareth School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 1973 to
1985. Upon her return to the United States, she served at the Marian Center in Holyoke,
Ma., until 1990, when she returned to Plattsburgh.
Dr. Breen is survived by her
cousins, Marsha Toole of Schenectady, Christopher Cunningham of Nassau, Donald Cunningham
of Albany, Francis Cunningham of Indiana and James B. McCloskey Jr. of Buffalo.

Ruth was the postmistress in
Lewis for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
She and her husband, Charles
Benedict, founded Valley Vending Service in 1957.
She is survived by a son, Bob
Prescott of Lewis; three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Keith Prescott of New
York City, Jeff and Kari Prescott of Morrisonville and David and Kathy Brien of
Colchester, Vt., and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Charles, died in
1970, her daughter, Betty Brien, died in 1990, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth

"Bobbie" Barcomb, 57, of Route 22, West Chazy, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at
CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Plattsburgh on
April 8, 1942, daughter of Robert and Mary (Daniels) Reeves.
Bobbie was a graduate of Chazy
Central Rural School. She was employed at CVPH Medical Center as a nurses aide in
the 1960s. She was a homemaker and secretary for Barcombs Auto Body Shop.
She was a member of St.
Josephs Church in West Chazy. She loved the outdoors, camping and especially
spending time with her grandchildren. Bobbie was very giving, always willing to help
anyone in need. She was a volunteer for the Girl Scouts.
Bobbie is survived by her
husband, Albert F. Barcomb of West Chazy. They were married April 23, 1962, in St.
Josephs Church in West Chazy.
She is also survived by two
daughters and a son-in-law, Paula Barcomb and her fiancé, Todd LaForest of West Chazy and
Janet and Andrew D. Bordeau of West Chazy; a son, Leeward F. Barcomb of Altona; four
grandchildren, Katrina LaForest, Ashley Barcomb, Adam Barcomb and Alyssa Bordeau; two

Joan worked for many years in the
food service industry, but was probably most proud of her accomplishments with the Gateway
Inn in Rouses Point. She loved the outdoors, music (especially Frank Sinatra) and dance,
but could be best defined by her love of family.
Survivors include her son and
daughter-in-law, Steven and Melinda Weiss of Rouses Point; her daughter and son-in-law,
Gale G. Longtin and her husband Dennis; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Janet
Munnik; a sister and brother-in-law, Christina and James Boire of Rouses Point; a
sister-in-law, Margaret "Binnie" Munnik of Rouses Point; three grandchildren,

Johnson Company in Bristol, Vt., for several years.
He was an avid NASCAR and
football fan. Steve also enjoyed fishing, bicycling, building and collecting model cars
and ships.
Steve was a very devoted person,
adoring his family, especially his nieces and nephew.
He is survived by his companion
of nine years, Lorene M. Whitford, Port Henry; his "Ma" Laura Groshans and
Leonard Brace. His family members also include Michael and Bradley Whitford, Thomas Boyle,

October 2, 1941, the daughter of Charles Monroe and Pearl ODell Husereau.
She owned her own shop and she
taught ceramics in Ticonderoga for a number of years.
She was actually a certified
ceramic teacher, past president of the Wednesday Night Ladies Bowling League, enjoyed all
crafts including quilting and she was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her husband,
Robert Mugford of Ticonderoga; one son, Tony Scuderi of Wingdale, N.Y.; step-father Joe
Husereau of Ticonderoga; and one brother, Terry Husereau of Ticonderoga.

Sweet, 68, of 1713 Lake Shore Road, died early Sunday morning, January 9, 2000, at his
home.
He was born in Plattsburgh on May
21, 1931, the son of Clinton W. and Helen A. (Morris) Sweet Sr.
Mr. Sweet was a charter member of
the Chazy Lions Club, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and after retiring, he was
caretaker for the Ladd Cemetery at Chazy Landing. He spent his life living on and enjoying
Lake Champlain.
Mr. Sweet was a Korean War Army
veteran. Following the war, he married the former Rosemary Wiggin in Keeseville in 1953.
Mr. Sweet worked as a lineman/installer/technician for the new York Telephone Co. from
1955 until 1991 when he retired.
Survivors include his wife
Rosemary; two sons, William J. Sweet of Chazy Landing and Thomas Wiggin Sweet and his wife
Mary Jo of Chazy Landing; two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Robin) Brockway of Massena and Stacy

He was a retired Level Foreman
for Republic Steel Corp., Mineville. He also worked on the construction of Route 9 in the
Schroon Lake area, worked for the WPA in the construction of the athletic field at Port
Henry High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his grandchildren.

WESTPORT Jean M. Downs, 59, of Pleasant
St., Westport, died Friday, January 07, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Keeseville, October 28, 1940 the
daughter of Matthew and Marion (Prefontaine) McDonough.
She married Michael E. Downs, May 2, 1963 at the
Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville.
Jean graduated from Keeseville High School and
continued her education at Plattsburgh State University. She took time off from work to
raise her two daughters. She was employed approximately 15 years at the Champlain National
Bank in Westport
Survivors include her husband, Michael E. Downs
of Westport; two daughters, Jennifer of Albany and Mary Kate of Hampton, Va; three
brothers and two sisters-in-law, James "Dan" and Margaret McDonough of Spring
Hill, Fla, Colin McDonough of Keeseville, and Michael and Bonnie McDonough of Hartford,
Conn; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Kathleen O'Connor of Keeseville, Sue and John
Giroux of Morrisonville, and Pat and Robert Fisch of San Jose, Calif; two brothers-in-law,
and spouses, Jerome and Janet Downs of Peru, and Thomas and Ruth Downs of New Paltz; one
sister-in-law, Barbara McDonough; and nieces and nephews, Sue O'Connor of Port Kent, Tim
and Amy Nyhart of Hamburg, Dave and Lisa St. Pierre of Cumberland, Maine, Karen Downs of
Birmingham, Ala., Kevin Downs of Keeseville, Matthew Downs of Washington, D.C., Lt. Col.
James and Mrs. McDonough, Major William and Mrs. McDonough, III, Dave and Stephanie Fisch
of Pleasanton, Calif., Mike and Debbie Fisch of Chicago, Ill., and Michael McDonough, Jr.,
of Hartford, Conn.
One sister, Mary Ellen, predeceased her.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 9,
2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Westport. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, January 10, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the St. Philip
Neri Church in Westport, with Rev. Peter Riani, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the
spring in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru.
Donations in her memory may be made to the
Westport Rescue Squad.
Leila A. Delong
Schuyler Falls Leila A. Delong, 72, of
Rt. 22B, Schuyler Falls, entered into eternal peace, Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the CVPH
Medical Center with her beloved family at her side.
She was born July 14, 1927, the daughter of
Francis and Ida (Andrews) Gumlaw.
She was a 1945 graduate of Peru Central School.
Leila was a deeply devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, and
friend. She will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.
She had been a member of the Schuyler Falls
Methodist Church and W.S.C.S. Leila had formerly worked at Diamond National.
She was a member of the R.S.V.P. Kitchen Band, an
avid bowler in the Polaris Ladies League, and several mixed leagues. She enjoyed
gardening, and knitting; however, her greatest enjoyment was doing for her family. She has
forever blessed their lives.
Survivors include her husband of 54 wonderful
years, C. Francis Delong of Schuyler Falls; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Darryl
Delong of Schuyler Falls, and Larry and Ellen Delong of Plattsburgh; one sister, Nora
Ratta of Keeseville; one brother, Francis Gumlaw of Saranac; six grandchildren, Mike,
Kenny, Michelle, Carrie, Erika, and Trevor Delong; two great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Her parents, three brothers, four sisters, and
one grandson, Dion Delong, predeceased her.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial
service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Lester E. Thew Funeral Home
in Peru, with Rev. William Reamer, chaplain at CVPH Medical Center, officiating.
Donations in her memory may be made to the
Intensive Care Unit at CVPH.
Florence E. Mousseau
Plattsburgh Mrs. Florence E. Mousseau, 76,
of Salmon River Road died Saturday January 8, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center in
Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on May 20, 1923, daughter of the late Francis and
Rose (Burdeau) Andrews.
She attended Our Lady of Victory School and was a
member of St. Augustines Church in Peru.
She is survived by her husband Clifford, whom she
married in 1942; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Denis and Shannon Mousseau of Peru,
Gary and Kathy Mousseau of Athens; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharron and Jack
Baker of Morrisville, and Tammy Parker of West Chazy; one sister and a brother-in-law,
Virginia and Richard Aley of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren, one grandchild, and several
nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by two sons, Mark and Todd
Mousseau, and a sister, Ruth Bergeron.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the
Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at
10 a.m. from St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Burial will be later in the year in St.
Augustine's Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the
Alzheimer's Research at SUNY Plattsburgh.
Isable M. Gordon
CADYVILLE Isabelle M. Gordon, 79, of
the Goddeau Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born on July 25, 1920, in Dannemora, the
daughter of Arthur and Ida (Betters) Thompson.
Isabelle married Stanley Gordon in 1946 at St.
James Church in Cadyville. She was a member of St. James Church and a former member of the
Cadyville PTA, and Cadyville Fire Department Auxiliary. She also was a former Den Mother.
Isabelle enjoyed working on her crafts, especially counted cross stitching.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law,
Thomas and Deborah Gordon of Cadyville; three grandchildren, Susan, Megan and David Gordon
of Cadyville; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Rock of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Roger (Ruth) Dutton of
West Plattsburgh, Mrs. John (Helen) Kourofsky of Dannemora; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Millie
Thompson of Saranac; several nieces and nephews.
Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, Stanley,
a daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Delaney, and a brother, Richard Thompson.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at St. James Church. Burial will
be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

Steven D. Holliday, 43,
of Mansfield Street, Plattsburgh, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at his home.

Gerald A. Moreau, 73, of Grand Ave., Saratoga Springs,
died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Albany Medical Center, Albany. He was born in Dannemora,
Sept. 8, 1926, the son of Phillip and Elsie (Dubrey) Moreau.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday at the
William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Clements Church,
231 Lake Avenue.
