Ursula H. KaufmanDANNEMORA -- Mrs. Ursula H. Kaufman, 101, of Dannemora, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Dannemora on April 29, 1905, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Farrell) Hanlon. Ursula graduated from Plattsburgh Normal School, Class of 1923. She taught in Beacon, N.Y., for two years and then attended Cornell University until a serious toboggan injury curtailed her studies there. After recuperating, Ursula entered Columbia University in New York City and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1928. She taught at Mattituck, Long Island. In the summer of 1930, Ursula toured Europe before returning to Dannemora to care for her elderly father and to begin her local teaching career. In September 1937, Ursula married Francis Kaufman, and they enjoyed life together for 44 years, until his death in 1981. She was an active parishioner at St. Joseph's Church, Dannemora. She served as president of the Happy Mountaineers Seniors Group and was active as a Girl Scout leader. Ursula volunteered for many years at the Dannemora Free Library and she also substitute-taught long into her retirement. She was an avid reader and with the use of audio and visual instruments was allowed to keep abreast of current events and to continue her quest of knowledge. Ursula was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Margaret Hanlon; her husband, Frank; a brother, Clermont Hanlon; and a granddaughter Jennifer Thompson. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Thompson and her husband, Colin, of Whitehall; a granddaughter Katherine Thomson and her best friend, Matthew Gallipeo, of Granville; a sister-in-law Anna Kaufman of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Church, Dannemora. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dannemora Free Library, Dannemora, N.Y. 12929 or Isaac Griswold Library on Williams Street in Whitehall, N.Y. 12887 for the continuance of providing audio books, or to a favorite charity. H.M. DukettSARANAC LAKE -- H.M. Dukett, 90, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his home. Born Jan. 9, 1916, in Keene, he was the son of H. Sylvester and Edith (Collins) Dukett and a lifelong resident of the Adirondacks. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action during the Battle of the Bulge. In 1950, he graduated from St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing then immediately began his 31 years of employment as a registered nurse at Sunmount in Tupper Lake. Mr. Dukett was a member and senior warden of the Church of St. Luke. His pastimes and hobbies included boating, fishing, camping and photography. One of his greatest accomplishments was building the family home that served as their residence for 60 years. He was predeceased by a daughter, Evelyn Nancy, in 1956. Mr. Dukett is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Lucy Wilson Dukett; three daughters and their spouses, the Rev. Royal and Patricia Mattoon of Westminster, Md., Michael and Denise Caselli of Hudson Falls, and the Rev. David and Michele Boyea of Tupper Lake; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, G. Louise Gardner of Saranac Lake and Audrey G. Cochran of Massena; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. Donations in Mr. Dukett's name may be made to the Saranac Lake Fire Department Rescue Squad or the Church of St. Luke in care of the funeral home. Winnifred W. LobdellMORRISONVILLE -- Winnifred W. Lobdell, 87, of Route 22B, died Sunday, May 7, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born May 16, 1918, in Clayburg, the daughter of Fred and Julia (Strack) Weir. Winnifred graduated from Plattsburgh Normal School and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Clayburg. She then moved to Long Island, where she taught for 11 years at the Westbury, Long Island, school. Winnifred moved back to Morrisonville and married Kenneth Lobdell on Oct. 17, 1953. She stopped teaching to raise her family. In March of 1969, her husband, Kenneth, died; in September, Winnifred began teaching at the Northside School on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base, retiring in 1983. Winnifred was a communicant of St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville and a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed playing golf and traveling and also loved reading and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include two sons, Theron Lobdell of Cadyville and Jerome Lobdell of Morrisonville; her daughter, Amy Brokos and her husband, Ray, of Morrisonville; her sister Doris Rose and her husband Stanley, of Morrisonville; a granddaughter, Megan Kellogg, of Morrisonville; and four nieces. One sister, Mildred McCabe, died earlier. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in Winnifred's memory may be made to St. Alexander's Memorial Fund. Walter H. Church, Jr.Walter H. Church Jr. passed away on April 23, 2006, in Sarasota, Fla., under hospice care. He was born on December 8, 1917, the third son of Walter and Agnes Shea Church, in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1921, his family located to the Plattsburgh area, where Mr. Church attended local schools. After graduating from St. John's Academy, Mr. Church attended St. Bonaventure College in Olean, followed by his enlistment in the U.S. Army. He served as a commissioned officer in an armored unit in the Pacific theater of World War II. He also served as an officer instructor during the Korean conflict. Mr. Church was an integral member of many family businesses, including Church Oil Company and Plattsburgh Motor Service, with several affiliated locations throughout upstate New York, as well as PLMOSE, Inc., a real estate holding company. Mr. Church participated in many civic and fraternal organizations. He was a charter member and past president of the Chazy Lions Club, a life member of the Elks Club and was appointed by Gov. Nelson Rockefeller to the first Board of Trustees of Clinton Community College. Mr. Church enjoyed several sports in his younger years, especially bobsledding with his older brother, Joseph, at Mt. Van Hoevenburg, as well as golfing at Bluff Point. Mr. Church is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Sheehan); son Walter H. Church III and wife, Nancy, of Plattsburgh; daughter Deborah Kern of Middletown, RI; daughter Pamela Church and husband, Edward Burrows, of Venice, FL; daughter Keven Preston and husband, Martin, of Gansevoort, NY; and daughter Stacey Bustillo and husband, Felipe, of Lenexa, KS. He is also survived by siblings Joan Church of Chazy, Robert Church of Chazy, and Susan Judkins of Plattsburgh as well as nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Church was predeceased by his parents as well as brothers John, Joseph, Thomas, and Charles. At the request of the family, services were private. The National Cremation Society of Sarasota was in charge of all arrangements. Memorial donations in memory of Walter H. Church, Jr. may be made to a Hospice organization of your choice or Masses may be said in his name. Sadly we say "goodbye and job well done" to another of America's "Greatest Generation."

DALE F. ROBINSON, 47, of 1234 Massachusetts Ave., Washington, D.C., and formerly of Westville, died unexpectedly at his apartment on Thursday, May 4, 2006. Born in Malone on Jan. 26, 1959, he was the son of the late Winifred and Ruth Barney Robinson. There are no calling hours. The time and place of a funeral service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone. Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc., of Malone. EUGENE A. PERRIN, 71, of 27 Spruce St., Malone, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at his home. Born May 31, 1934, in Malone, he was the son of Louis and Florida Pecore Perrin. There will be no calling hours. A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in St. John Bosco Cemetery. Arrangements are through St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home, Inc.
