Susan A. Buttel-Chaplain

PLATTSBURGH -- Susan A. Buttel-Chaplain, 60, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Plattsburgh on April 13, 1946, she was the daughter of Walden and Alyce (Cate) DeLong.

Sue was a friend to all and a peacemaker within the family. She enjoyed reading, playing games and being surrounded by her family and her pets.

Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Chaplain of Lake Wales, Fla.; her parents, Walden and Alyce DeLong of Lake Wales, Fla.; a brother, Lyle DeLong and his wife Kathy of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Delores LaBounty and her husband Ron of Plattsburgh, Muriel Bittinger of Lake Wales, Fla., and Lynn Stebbins and her husband Jon of Plattsburgh; five nephews; and eight nieces; and her special caretakers, Latonya Gage and Daniel Messier.

There will be no calling hours.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Mason F. Stokes

WEST CHAZY -- Mason F. Stokes, 73, of Route 22, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in New Paltz, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1933, the son of David and Laura (Rosenkranse) Stokes.

Mason married Janet, the daughter of Leora and Fred Jubert, on Oct. 15, 1955, at St. Louis of France Church. He served in the Korean War as a motor pool Tech. Sergeant in the Air Force. Mr. Stokes was a member of St. Louis of France Church. He was a truck driver and diesel mechanic for most of his life, working for Anchor Motor Freight as a foreman for 17 years as well as operating his own business, M. Stokes Transport, which he was still operating until the time of his death. Mason enjoyed camping, traveling, sightseeing and exploring.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet Stokes; two sons, Steven Stokes of West Chazy and Kevin Stokes and his wife Trina of Hamilton Square, N.J.; two daughters, Deborah Long and her husband William of Saranac, and Donna Vanderhoff and her husband Walter of Peru; two brothers, Vernon Stokes and his wife Mabel of Somers, N.Y., and Lloyd Stokes of New Paltz, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Bert, Emery and Chester Stokes; and one sister, Evelyn Pink all died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Louis of France Church in Sciota. Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens in Ellenburg Depot.

Memorial donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center.

Genevieve Arnold Sheldrake

AUSABLE FORKS -- Genevieve Arnold Sheldrake, 96, of Sheldrake Road, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1909, on a farm in the town of Olive, N.Y. The daughter of John J. and Lottie (Elmendorf) Arnold.

Mrs. Sheldrake attended Albany High School in Albany, N.Y., and worked at various jobs retiring from the AuSable Forks School in 1975 where she was the cafeteria manager. She was a member of the AuSable Forks Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and was involved with the local senior Citizen's Club. She enjoyed people and working on different projects to help seniors.

Her husband James Sheldrake died on July 7, 1978, from a farm tractor accident. Her niece Mary Hawkins died in 1986.

She is survived by a niece, Florence (Sis) Ladieu; and four sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Delia Sheldrake of AuSable Forks, Carl and Virgie Sheldrake of Citrus Heights, Calif., Wesley and Verna Sheldrake and John and Sally Sheldrake of AuSable Forks. Grandchildren include, James and Robert Sheldrake, Terri Hall, Ron and Allison Sheldrake, Melissa and her husband George Szuba and Wendy and her husband Jeff Humphrey, Theodore Sheldrake, Lori and her husband Peter Ducharme, Julie and her Husband Dean Gilbert, and Bradley and his wife Amy Sheldrake. Her 11 great-grandchildren, Jason and his wife Melissa Sheldrake, Megan Sheldrake and companion Geoff Blaise, Caleb, Mila, Lydia and Zebulun Durcharme, Jonathan and David Gilbert, and Jared and Casey Szuba.

Visitation hours will be Friday, April 28, 2006, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Zaumetzer- Sprague Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 2 p.m. at the AuSable Forks United Methodist Church in AuSable Forks. Burial will follow in the North Jay Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

Donations in her memory may be may to the United Methodist Church in AuSable Forks.

Zaumetzer- Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Deaths:

ROBERT KEVIN FINN, 80, of Trudeau Road, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, N.Y., on Oct. 25, 1925, he was the son of Richard and Mary (Maloney) Finn.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Bible vigil will be held Thursday at 3:45 p.m. A fire department service will be held at 8 p.m. followed by a veterans service.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, with Father Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Cremation will follow.

OTIS O. GADWAY, 92, of Ariana Street, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Velencia Hills Rehab Center.

He was born in Highbanks, N.Y., on Sept. 29, 1913, the son of Edward and Florence (Tallman) Gadway.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements were incomplete as of Wednesday evening at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

NANCY ANN HUNTER, 70, of Rouses Point died Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Rouses Point.
