Philip S. Doorey

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Philip S. Doorey, age 60, of Bridgeport, Conn., beloved husband of Sandra "Sandy" (Stranius) Doorey, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at his home after a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., he had been a Bridgeport resident since 1973. Phil retired after 37 years of employment with I.B.M. and had formerly worked for the Bridgeport Ambulance Service. In the past, being an EMT and CPR instructor were his avocations. He enjoyed time spent with friends and family at his hunting camp in Loon Lake, N.Y., and Cape Cod, where he and Sandy had planned to retire.

In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by two sisters, Judy Doorey of Plymouth, Mass., and Patricia Williams of Jericho, Vt.; a brother, Martin Doorey of Binghamton, N.Y.; and 14 nieces and nephews; also many dear friends Phil considered family.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, David and Thomas Doorey; and a sister, Susan Doorey.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. with family and friends meeting directly at St. Margaret's Shrine, 2539 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.

Kathryn M. Simpson

ELMONT, Long Island -- Kathryn M. (Tobin) Simpson, 88, formerly of Elmont, Long Island, passed away Sunday, April, 2, 2006, at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream.

She was born in Cadyville, N.Y., on March 13, 1918, the daughter of Joseph Patrick and Nellie Briget (Conway) Tobin.

She graduated from Cadyville High School in 1936. She was retired for several years from Pfizer Inc.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph Patrick and Nellie Briget (Conway) Tobin; her brothers, Thomas, Conway, Joseph, Harold, Francis and Patrick Tobin; her sisters, Leona (Hazen), Helen (DeJaager) and Claudine (Simonetta).

She is survived by daughters, Jocelyn (Fenn), son-in-law, Bryan W. Fenn Sr. and grandson, Bryan W. Fenn Jr.; as well as daughter, Sharron (Serafin), son-in-law, Peter A. Serafin and granddaughter, Nicole M. Serafin; a sister, Betty Carter of Plattsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, May 8, 2006, at 8:30 a.m. from St. James Church in Cadyville. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery.

Phyllis Clark Landress

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- Phyllis Clark Landress, born July 4,1938, passed away at the Cape Canaveral hospital in Cocoa Beach, Fla., on April 5, 2006, after a short illness.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1955, then lived in Brevard County, Fla., since 1964.

Phyllis started as an assistant for Space Gateway support and then worked at Cape Canaveral Air Force station for more than 40 years. The United States American Flag was flown at halfmast at the Cape in honor of her service to our country on April 7, 2006.

Phyllis was a member of the church of our Saviour Catholic Church and volunteered at the Gardendale Elementary school in the reading program.

She was a caring and giving person and no one was a stranger in her eyes. She was a much loved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Antonio (Tiffany) Stafferio of Odenton, Md.; daughters, Dorothy Stoll, Susan (Manuel) Flores, and Barbara (Anthony) Carta all of Merritt Island, Fla.; brothers, Carl (Jeanette) Clark of Plattsburgh, John (Lori) Clark of Peru; sisters, Sara Clark Astle of Merritt Island, Fla., and Vina (Steve) Bechard of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren; six nephews; five nieces; and many other much loved family members and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl E. "Bubby" and Doris Sleight Clark.

George H. Cawthon

HOMESTEAD, Pa. -- George H. Cawthon, was born to George and Carrie (Penney) Cawthon on July 26,1926, in Homestead, Pa., and died April 19, 2006, in Enid, Okla.

George married Averil R. Curnock, on April 12, 1947, in Homestead Park, Pa. He retired from the United States Marine Corps as master sergeant and expert rifleman after 21 years. He later retired from General Water Works in Philadelphia, Pa. He worked as a realtor for Century 21 in Big Pine Key, Fla. George and Averil were members of Moonshine Squares in Malone, N.Y., and Champlain Square and Round Dancing in Champlain, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Averil of the home; one daughter, Penny Trujillo; two sons, George Cawthon and Albert Cawthon; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A private family memorial service for George Cawthon, 79, of Enid, Okla., formerly of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to a local Hospice.

Russell L. Collins

CADYVILLE -- Russell L. "Russ" Collins, 59, of the Town Line Road, Cadyville, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on June 25, 1946, the son of Beatrice Latour.

At the age of 5 he was lovingly adopted by Ernest and Florence (Delisle) Collins. Russ had attended Saranac Central School. He retired from New York State Department of Corrections at Lyon Mt. Correctional Facility where he was a cook. Russ enjoyed riding his four wheeler, being in the woods and he especially enjoyed teaching hunter safety and archery classes. He organized and conducted several youth archery camps. Russ and his wife Karen enjoyed camping with their friends Harry and Barb Litz and their families.

Russ always had a hunting story to tell anyone who would listen. He had worked to advance the accessibility of hunting and fishing for the physically challenged sportsman. Russ was a member of the Siberian Rod and Gun Club, the Malone Fish and Game Club, the Outback Riders, a past member of the Cadyville Fire Department and he attended the Cadyville Wesleyan Church. He was twice given the gift of life when he received kidney transplants in 1973 and again in 1985. The most fitting tribute to Russ would be to sign an organ donor card.

Russ was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice Latour; his father, Ernest Collins; his father-in-law, Harold Wilkie; and his mother-in-law, Marion Wilkie.

He is survived by his wife, Karen E. (Wilkie) Collins of Cadyville. They were married July 13, 1968, at the Cadvyille Wesleyan Church. Russ is also survived by his mother, Florence Collins of Cadyville; a son, Chris R. Collins and his wife Kathy of Morrisonville; and their daughter, the joy of Russ' life Alexandra Collins; a daughter, Krista L. Sherman and her husband Pete of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Ernie Collins and his wife Marilyn of Edmonds, Wa.; a nephew, Jeremy Collins and his wife Crissy of Renton, Wa.; several aunts, uncles, cousins; and many friends also survive him. Especially George Kramer and Fred Lamora. He is also survived by his faithful four legged companions, Abbie, E J and Cimmy.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at the Cadyville Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Jeff Turcotte, pastor officiating. Interment will follow at the Cadyville Protestant Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to any organization that promotes organ donation or the charity of one's choice.

Mary Drollette

PLATTSBURGH -- Mary "Sunny" "Gram" Drollette, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2006, surround by loved ones.

Gram was a beautiful person who was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed her family and her home was a gathering place for all. She enjoyed preparing Sunday dinners and no one ever left her home hungry. Prior to her illness she was an avid reader. She loved to go to the casino and she enjoyed a good game of poker with her family.

Gram was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her mother, Norma Lyman; her brother, Russell Lyman; sister, Marge White and sister, Sarah Beauchemin and her beloved son-in-law, Gary Lautenschuetz. She is survived by her children, Jim Drollette and Barbara, Gail Briquer and husband Henry, Earl Drollette and wife Sue, Norma Smart and husband Dick, Lee Lautenschuetz and Cheryl Lafountain and husband Jim. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Jim, Kellie and Tim Briquer, Kristina Dashnaw, Stephen Drollette, Brent and Mark Drollette, Dean and Robert Smart, Mary Gerace, Chris and Joel Lautenschuetz and Katie Lafountain; and 10½ great-grandchildren. Her sister, Mildred Thompson; her brother, Earl Lyman; and a brother-in-law, Robert Beauchemin; her aunt Harriett Sullivan; a special family friend, Phyllis Johnson as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also survives her.

Gram retired from her job at Brockway Air, a job that she truly enjoyed. She spent 20 years in the airline business. She also worked for Booth Gifts for several years. Gram was lucky enough to travel with her daughter-in-law, Barbara Drollette to Hawaii, California and St. Martin. She also enjoyed recent visits to California with her daughter, Lee to visit her Grandson Joel and his wife April Lautenschuetz. She also made the occasional trip to Las Vegas with loved ones.

Gram leaves a tremendous void in the lives of her family and loved ones. However, we hold so many memories, wonderful memories that will help us cope with our great loss. We are comforted that she is now surrounded by other loved ones especially Papa and Gary.

There will be no calling hours. There will be a private memorial service at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Clinton County Humane Society.

Jean Lorraine Strack

TUPPER LAKE -- Jean Lorraine Strack, 71, of Front Street, Tupper Lake, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 22, 2006, at her home.

She was born July 21, 1934, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Dorise Roy and Amilia Mary (Mallette) Sears. She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in 1952.

Jean had been married to Richard Arthur Yando. They made their home and raised their family in Tupper Lake. She had worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital and as a waitress at Bob's Steakhouse.

On Sept. 21, 1987, she and Paul Leo Strack of Tupper Lake were married at the Christian Center in Tupper Lake. They enjoyed traveling and visiting their families. They also enjoyed playing pinochle.

Their Christian faith was an important part of their life together. They were very active with the Christian Center.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Strack of Tupper Lake; her children, David Yando of Tacoma, Wash., Donald Yando and his wife Christal of Vermontville, Julie Miner and her husband Mark of West Chazy, Mary Dupras and her husband Robert of Morrisonville; Paula Manning and her husband Dave of Gansevoort and Brent Yando of Orlando. Fla.; her step-children, Lawrence Strack of Middleburgh, Theresa Malloy and her husband Howard of Bedford, N.H., Shyamala Strack of Atlanta, Ga., Sheila Poirier and her husband Curtis of Glens Falls, Jeffrey Strack of Glens Falls, Tracy Strack and his wife Greta of Virginia Beach, Va.; 28 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Sears and his wife Lenora of Fall Brook, Calif., Roy Sears and his wife Marlena of Sandwich, Ill.; two sisters, Denise Thall of Sandwich, Ill., and Pauline Brooks and her husband James of Tupper Lake and Flordia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by Mr. Yando; and a grandson and his wife, Jarrod and Michelle Yando.

Friends may call at the Christian Center in Tupper Lake on Tuesday evening, April 25, 2006, from 7-9 p.m. and also Wednesday morning, April 26, 2006, beginning at 10 a.m.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

James Jubert

CHAMPLAIN -- James "Jim" Jubert, 80, passed away March, 25, 2006. He was born on April 23, 1925, and raised in Champlain, N.Y. Grandson to John and Agnes Duport.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lucy Jubert.

Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jean Jubert; and children, Jo-Anna Reems, Ron (Sandy) Reems, Cheryl (Bob) Davis, Jimmy (Annette) Jubert and Jeffrey (Rose) Jubert; also survived by nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, G. Elmer of Plattsburgh, Paul R. in Clarkston, Wash. and Dick in Lancaster, N.Y.; sisters, Mary Nichols in Batavia, N.Y., Doris Walker in Mooers Forks, N.Y., and Rita Podsiadlo in Depew, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Shatze.

He served our country honorably in World War II and the Korean War. He served in the Air Force and the U.S. Army and retired as a 1st Sargent after 23 and a half years. He flew 25 Bomber missions over Germany during World War II of which he was a Top Turret Gunner. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy.

Services were held Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Our Lady of Meadows Church in Pueblo, Colo. God be with you and we will miss you.

Howard A. LaBombard

ELLENBURG DEPOT -- Howard A. LaBombard, a friend to everybody, 41, of Ellenburg Depot, died on Thursday, April 20, 2006.

He was born in Malone on August 18, 1964, the son of Austin and Cecilia (LaClair) LaBombard.

He was previously employed as a developmental aide at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Amy (Baker) LaBombard; a daughter, Angelica LaBombard; a son, Anthony (Tony) LaBombard and an expectant son, Gorge Howard LaBombard, all of Ellenburg Depot; his father-in-law, Rickey Baker; his brothers, Allen LaBombard and companion and Amy's mother, Florence Baker of Ellenburg Center, Ralph and Roseanne LaBombard of Chazy, Joseph and Shasta LaBombard of Champlain; his sisters, Suzanna Abare of Churubusco, Marilyn and Tom Manor of Mooers, Bernadine LaBombard of Churubusco; a brother and sister-in-law, Matthew and Christina Baker of Chateaugay; a sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne and Jim Tough of Bangor; a sister and brother-in-law, April and Corey Guerin of Ellenburg; and a brother-in-law, Corey Baker and his companion Marita of Altona; his nieces and nephew, Samantha and Brandon Guerin, who lived with him and his other surviving nieces and nephews, Jody, Danielle, Michelle, Amber and Emily LaBombard, Christine and Dawn Manor, Jimmy and Shawn Abare, Colby Shatlaw, Khristian Baker, Kassandra Tough, Brianna Guerin, Jeannie and Julia Baker and Jerrad Boadway; and his beloved friends Doug and Fran Corrow.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, George LaBombard.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday, from St. Patrick's Church in Chateaugay. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton at a later date.

FLORENCE L. RUSHLOW, 93, of Spring Street, St. Regis Falls, N.Y., and formerly of Fort Covington, N.Y., died Friday afternoon, April 21, 2006, at the Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y. She had been a patient there since April 19.

Born in Fort Covington, Jan. 8, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Georgianna Taylor LaBrake.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Stephen Rocker officiating. Burial will be in the old St. Mary's Cemetery.

NANCY ANN HUNTER, 70, of Rouses Point, died Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.

JAMES GORDON AYOTTE, 101, died Friday, April 22, 2006, at the Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake.

He was born March 19, 1905, in Lake Placid, N.Y., the son of Frank Nelson and Delia Mae (LaGoy) Ayotte.

Friends may call at the Holy Name Church on Monday, April 24, 2006, beginning at 1 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Name Church at 2 p.m., on that day. Burial with full military honors will follow at Holy Name Cemetery.

OLIVER L. SOULIA, 82, of Telegraph Road, Peru died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Lewis, Feb. 24, 1924 the son of John B. and Gertrude (Denton) Soulia.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 25, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors accorded by the Military Forces Honor Guard.
