Viola Ashline Pombrio

COLONIE -- Viola Ashline Pombrio, 91, entered into eternal life Monday, March 13, 2006.

Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., daughter of the late Lee and Eva Gebo Frederick.

Viola was the owner and operator of Ashline's Grocery in Plattsburgh for over 28 years retiring in 1972.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Plattsburgh and the Guilderland Lodge of Elks.

Loving wife of 37 years to Richard Pombrio, and also the late Henry Ashline, who passed away in 1967; beloved mother of Henry Ashline of Feura Bush, Marjorie Dickson of Albany and Allen Helson of Waterford; cherished grandmother of Lee, John, Greg and Glenn Ashline, Cynthia Osmer and Philip, Kevin and Timothy Dickson and Allen Jr. and Leigh Ann Helson. Also survived by 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Viola was predeceased by her brother and sister.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

William Raymond Wannemacher

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- A funeral service for William Raymond Wannemacher, 83, a 23-year resident of Incline Village, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Incline Village. Visitation will begin one hour before the service.

Mr. Wannemacher died March 9, 2006, in Carson City. He was born Jan. 11, 1923, in West Orange, N.J., to Charles Wannemacher and Mary (Kroeger) Wannemacher.

Before moving to Incline Village, Wannemacher lived in Plattsburgh, N.Y. He married Shirley Blondin in Burlington, Vt., on July 22, 1950.

He received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Michael's College in Burlington in 1950 and a master's degree in music education from New York University in 1959.

Wannemacher was a member of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division, based at Camp Hale, Colo., and he was a member of Gen. Patton's Third Army in the final drive across Germany in 1945.

He was also a high school band director and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Tahoe Dance Band and the Carson Community Band.

Wannemacher was preceded in death by his sister, Sister Mary Cecilia of Sisters of Christian Charity in Mendham, N.J.; and brother the Rev. Charles Wannemacher of Garrison, N.Y.

Among his survivors are his wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Wannemacher of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law, Heidi Wannemacher-Eckles and Dennis Eckles of Tobyhanna, Pa.; daughter and son-in-law, Staci Wannemacher-Granskog and Michael Granskog of Castaic, Calif.; daughter, Susan Wannemacher of Reno; sister-in-laws, Mary Wannemacher of West Caldwell, N.J., Shirley Blondin of Colchester, Vt.; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Yvonne Blondin of Burlington, Vt.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the VA hospital in Reno. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James S. Meehan

BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- James S. "Jim" Meehan, 70, of Brunswick, Ga., passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1935, in Hague, N.Y., and was a longtime resident of Brunswick.

Jim was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Evelyn Meehan; and his sister, Dorothy Rosekans of Syracuse.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Meehan of Ambrose, Ga.; sons, Michael J. Meehan of Crestview, Fla., Richard A. Meehan of Crestview, Fla.; daughters, Marianne Kennedy of Crestview, Fla., Valerie Barrow of Crestview, Fla.; brother, Norrel J. Meehan of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; sister, Mary Louise Meehan of Ticonderoga, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at Liveoak Park Memorial Cemetery in Crestview, Fla., at a later date.

Dorothy A. Moore

KEESEVILLE -- Dorothy A. (Hayes) Moore, 77, of Moore Lane, Keeseville, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Saranac, April 17, 1928, the daughter of Harold and Eva (LaFountain) Hayes.

Dorothy was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother, and a caregiver for disabled adults.

She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters. In her free time she enjoyed her birds, pets, and gardening.

Dorothy was an active and respected member of the community, and known for her quiet calming way. She was forever helping people and animals in need. She will be sorely missed by the many she touched.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James C. Moore and Renee Beauregard of Aurora, Colo., and David A. and Lydia Moore of Chestertown; four grandchildren, Zachary, Dana, Adam and Emily Moore; one great-grand-granddaughter, Sushawna Bennett; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pearl and George Douglas of Plattsburgh, Loretta Marinucci of Watervliet, Lee Keddy and companion Bob Connell of Manteo, N.C., Winnie Sweatt of Amarillo, Texas and Cathy and Bill Williams of Richland Hills, Texas; two brothers, Llewelyn Hayes of Delmar and Bernard Hayes and companion Shirley Rascoe of Saranac; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Herbert I. Moore he died Thursday, March 4, 2004; and two brothers, Herman and Russell Hayes.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 17, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will be in the spring in the parish cemetery.

Donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to St. John's Church or the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.

Raida T. Chaput

SCHENECTADY -- Raida T. Chaput, 72, formerly of Rotterdam passed away at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy on Sunday, March 12, 2006.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francis "Frank" Chaput whom she married on June 30 1951. Frank passed away on Dec. 12, 2002.

Born in Ellenburg Central she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Irene LeClare Trombley.

She has been a local resident for over 60 years. For many years she was the district manager of Alfred's Hosiery of Colonie Center and later with her husband owned and operated Chaput's News Stand on Upper Union Street. Raida was a communicant of Our Lady the Assumption Church and a long standing member of its choir.

She is survived by two sons, Francis E. (Natalie Wolfe) Chaput of Murietta, Calif., and Jeffrey M. (Amy Losee) Chaput of Old Chatham, N.Y.; and one daughter, Valerie Chaput of Bennington, Vt.

Raida also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Sonia, Rachel and Johanna Chaput of Calif., Stephanie, Christopher, Forest and Benjamin Chaput of Chatham, N.Y., and Kristina and Matthew Hall. Raida is also survived by four sisters; and one brother, Marguerite (Leo) Ferret, Eunice (Mert) Bell, Sam (Marie) Trombley and Luva (Roosevelt) Jones all of Plattsburgh and Ellie (Ken) Steady of Daytona Fla.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Chaput on Aug. l8, 1978; and a sister, Millie Barcomb.

Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc. 1605 Helderberg Ave. Rotterdam, on Thursday, March 16, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. on March 17, 2006, at the funeral home. Immediately following a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at Our Lady the Assumption Church Princetown Road Rotterdam. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Troy Schenectady Road Niskayuna.

MARIE WATERSTRAAT MILLER, 89, of Petrova Avenue, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Saranac Lake on July 21, 1916, she was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Amell) Boakes.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. a Bible vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Hubbard officiating. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

MARY PILLING BROOKS, 99, of Malone, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone where she had been a resident since July 2005.

Born in Russell, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 20, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Estella Grant Pilling.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 5, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service of Malone.

JAMES ROBERT GRINSTEAD, 78, of Terrace View Lane, Spring Hill, Fla., and formerly of Malone, N.Y., died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice.

Born Dec. 4, 1927, in Toronto, Canada, he was the son of Raymond M. and Estelle Mulholland Grinstead.

There will be no calling hours.

Spring burial will take place in Momingside Cemetery, Malone, N.Y., and will be announced at a later date.

GRACE C. ST. JOHN, 81, of Marshall Street, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Ballston Spa, N.Y., on June 3, 1924, she was the daughter of Chester and Margaret (Dennison) Ratelle Sr.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, March 17, 2006, from 6 to 9 p.m.

A prayer service will take place Friday evening, at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.
