John G. Christon

CADYVILLE -- John G. Christon, 78, of Rabideau Street, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at his residence, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice.

He was born in Cadyville on March 16, 1927, the son of George and Elizabeth (Rabideau) Christon.

John was a communicate of St. James Church in Cadyville.

Mr. Christon was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy Seebees and took part in the liberation of the Philippine Islands.

John retired in 1981 from the Union of Operating Engineers 106 in Albany. He was a lifetime member of Post 1619 American Legion in West Plattsburgh and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125, Boynton Avenue, Plattsburgh. He was also a charter member of the Cadyville Fire Department, retiring after serving 29 years as a full time volunteer and also assistant chief. He spent several years helping out with the Boy Scouts Troop 44 and assisting at Camp Bedford.

He owned and operated Christon's Sand and Gravel in Morrisonville. After his retirement, his greatest pleasure was his daily run to the pit and the woods beyond with his grandchildren to look for wild animals along with spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Marion St. Louis; four sons, George Christon and his wife Peg of Morrisonville, Clifton Christon and his wife Michelle of Schuyler Falls, David Christon and his wife Cindy of Morrisonville and Larry Christon and his wife Beth of Cadyville; one daughter, Judy Furst and her husband Mark of Jefferson, Ga.; 18 grandchildren, Suzanne and Hugh Drollette, Barbara and Mike Drollette, George Christon, Missy, Katie and Jessica Christon, John and Mark Furst, Adam, Travis, Nikole and Kayla Christon, Heidi and Jason Christon, Kevin, Ted and Melissa Doherty and Spencer and Taylor Christon; four great - grandchildren, Eric and Joshua Drollette, Michael Drollette and Eden Christon; one brother, William Christon of Redford; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and William Pardy of Morrisonville, Mary and Joe LaCroix of Morrisonville, Veronica and John Millhouse of Spokane, Wash.; one sister-in-law, Margaret Christon of Blyheville, Ark.

He was predeceased by his parents; one sister, Hilda Jennie Cross; and one brother, James Christon.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at noon at St. James Church in Cadyville.

Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.

In his memory, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country and FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Magdelina M. Porter

PLATTSBURGH -- Magdelina M. Porter, 93, of Evergreen Nursing Home, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., on Dec. 12, 1912, she was the daughter of Nelson and Delphine (Sorrell) Lancto.

She was married to Fred Porter on Feb. 7, 1932, in St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain, by the Rev. Levesque. He predeceased her on Feb. 19, 1997.

Mrs. Porter is survived by a son, Howard Porter and his companion Betty Jarvis of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.; grandchildren, Chrystal and Brian, Penny and Dave, Tom and Robin LeFebvre, Howard "Fred" and Lisa Porter; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice LaMountain of Plattsburgh.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; six sisters, Lillian Mahar, Elsie Baker, Elverina, Lottie and Leona Lancto and Vivian Miller; and three brothers, Richard, Clifford and Mac Lancto.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, March 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 13, in St. Edmund's Church with the Rev. John Looby officiating.

Spring burial will take place at St. Edmund's Cemetery, Ellenburg.

Wilhelmina Helen Coonrod Crowningshield Aubin

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Wilhelmina Helen Coonrod Crowningshield Aubin, 91, died Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown.

She was born July 30, 1914, in Lewis, the daughter of Benjamin and Loretta (Mitchell) Coonrod.

She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Claude W. and Sonja Aubin of Elizabethtown, Miles A. and Patty Aubin of Willsboro and Leo (Bill) D. Aubin of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Loretta M. Espenscheid of Chicago; one brother-in-law, Donald Valentine. She is also survived by several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great- grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Claude Aubin; and one son, Louis J. Aubin.

Wilhelmina had many interests, including drawing, painting, crafts, gardening, fishing, card and board games with her family, preserving fruits and vegetables, animals, drives in the country and collecting cards and photographs.

Calling hours will be held Monday, March 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. at W.M. Marvins Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Fred Shaw at the funeral home at 4 p.m. following the calling hours.

Burial will take place in the spring in Lewis Cemetery.
