David J. Cushing

MOOERS FORKS -- David J. Cushing, 57, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on May 9, 1948, the son of Donald J. and Catherine A. (Boise) Cushing.

David came from the Syracuse area to attend Plattsburgh State and graduated with a bachelor of arts in history. Following college he worked throughout New York state with the desire to come back to the north country. He eventually came back and taught history at Clinton Community College and went on to become store manager of Chazy Hardware in Rouses Point for 18 years.

David was a devoted grandfather and always made time to catch his grandchildren's sporting activities and games. He loved basketball and most particularly the Syracuse Orangemen. He was well respected in the community and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Holly Paloski and her children Madison, Marissa and Bailey of Troy, N.Y.; four sons, Thomas Cushing and his wife Rhonda and their children Regen and Ryley of Mooers, Scott Ebersol and his daughter Allison of Mooers, Forks, Aaron Ebersol and his fiancée' Courtney Trombly and Aaron's son, Derek of Mooers and Jason Ebersol and his wife Sherry and their children Emily and Calvin of West Chazy; three sisters, Joan Clark, Barbara Folsom and her husband Richard and Donna Cummings and her husband Bob; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father and mother.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gerald Cerank presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the Northeastern Clinton Central School (NCCS) Booster Club.

Warren L. Chase Sr.

INVERNESS, FLA. -- Warren L. Chase Sr., 81, of Inverness, Fla., and formerly of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Waltham, Mass., died on Jan. 25, 2006, after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Waltham, Mass., on Aug. 2, 1924, to William and Anna Chase.

He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in Europe.

On June 16, 1946, he married Mildred Lindstrom who predeceased him in October 2000 after 54 years of marriage and devotion.

Warren spent almost 40 years of his life with Champlain Valley Federal Savings and Loan Association (CVFS) in Plattsburgh and retired as president and CEO in 1995. He also served the banking industry as a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of NY. He was a valued member of the Plattsburgh Rotary Club and served his community as president of Plattsburgh and Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the United Way annual fund drive and as secretary of the Northeast New York Educational Television Association. He also served the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont as a member of the Board of Governors. He was a member and past president of SPEBSQSA; all who knew Warren appreciated his love of music.

Upon his retirement to Florida, Warren played a very active role in the First Presbyterian Church as treasurer and as choir member and as a leader of the Men's Fellowship. The Fellowship provided support to three charities he held dear, Special Olympics, The Path of Citrus County (an abuse shelter) and the Citrus High School Band.

Warren is survived by his wife, Thelma Quick; his brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Jeanne Chase of Waltham, Mass.; his two sons and two daughters and their spouses, Warren and Helen Chase of Granville, Ohio, Bruce and Barbara (Chase) McCowan of East Greenwich, R.I., William and Rhea Chase of North Greenbush, N.Y., Bruce and Judith (Chase) Belrose of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service in Warren's memory was held in Inverness on January 31 and another will be held in Waltham on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. at the Covenant Congregational Church at Piety Corner.

Warren was a larger than life man with an enormous heart who gave tirelessly to his family, his church, his work and his community. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Robert J. Smith

PLATTSBURGH -- Robert J. Smith, 72, of the Military Turnpike, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Ellenburg on March 21, 1933, the son of Clifford and Nellie (Clark) Smith.

Robert married Arleen Richey in 1989.

Robert was a Korean Army Veteran. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 34 years retiring in 1989 due to illness.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Treadwells Mills, a former member of the Moose Lodge and the American Veterans in Massena. He loved fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Arleen Smith of Plattsburgh; one son, Robert Smith of West Chazy; six daughters, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Maxwell of Sedona, Ariz., Carolyn Smith of Morrisonville, Mrs. James (Darlene) Dowd of Ellenburg Center, Mrs. Michael (Cynthia) Forsyth of Calgary, Alberta, Mrs. Mark (Gail) Decoste of Ellenburg Depot and Mrs. Allen (Sheri) Yando of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, Harold Smith and his wife Mae of Greenwood, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Smith and Raymond "Buck" Fisher.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Treadwells Mills. Burial will be at a later date in the spring in St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville.

Memorial donations may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

Mazie G. Tyrell

PERU -- Mazie G. Tyrell, 96, formerly of the Fuller Road, Peru and Keeseville Country Gardens, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh where she has resided since July 2002.

She was born in Peru, July 10, 1909, the daughter of Richard K. and Viola M. (Strong) Reid.

Mazle married Ralph W. Tyrell, Nov. 12, 1927. He died Sept. 1, 1993.

She worked for BFD Mill and Diamond International for 23 years.

She was a 77 year member of the Peru Community Church having joined, Oct. 28, 1928. Mazie was also a member of the Golden Apple Club, RSVP of Clinton County, Top Shelf Chorus and was a very well known whistler.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Tellier of Keeseville; five grandchildren and spouses, Deborah and Ralph Wojcinski of Omaha, Neb., Brenda and Armond Woods of Keeseville, Sheila and Henry Bennage of Keeseville, Sandra Tellier of Guilderland and Alfred Tellier of Keeseville; eight great-grandchildren, Carolyn Frenyea, Elizabeth and Emily Wojcinski, Bradley and Kira Woods, Seth and Melanie Bennage and Mallory Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Arthur Tellier; six brothers, Bert, Stanley, Halsey, Arthur, Donald and Gerald Reid; and four sisters, Essa Blake, Bertha West, Alice Reid and Marjorie Rivers.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Peru Community Church with Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Community Church.

Francis I. Davio

MALONE -- Francis I. Davio, 63, of Malone, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

Born in Glover, Vt., June 5, 1942, he was a son of Irving Reginald and Dorothy Fahy Davio.

On Oct. 16, 1965, he married Jean Martinson in Madison, Conn., she survives.

Mr. Davio graduated from Barton Academy in Barton, Vt. He then attended and graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor of science degree in physics. He received his masters degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam in secondary science and education. He later received a masters in computer programming at Columbia University. A teacher at Chateaugay Central, Mr. Davio taught physics, chemistry, math and computer. While teaching at Chateaugay Central, he started the tradition of yearly musicals and was the director for the first five years. He retired in 2003. He also taught computer and cross country skiing at North Country Community College. He and his wife also owned the cross country ski center in Chasm Falls for many years.

Mr. Davio was a member of the 310th Field Hospital Reserve Unit and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was on active duty with the ROTC Unit at Clarkson University and served as an instructor for several years. A member of American Legion Post 219, he served as legislative chairmen and was a member of the Scholarship and Oratorical committee. He was a member of the Malone Golf Club, the Partners Club and was an amateur wine maker.

Surviving are his wife, Jean; three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and his wife Joan of Hope Mills, N.C., Michael and his wife Maureen of Fairport, N.Y., and Terry and his wife Corrinne of Siler City, N.C.; a sister, Ms. Marilyn Johnson of Burlington, Vt.; four grandchildren; Emily and Merideth of Fairport, N.Y., and Mark and Michelle of Hope Mills, N.C.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Carolyn Russo in 1983.

There are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to participate in a "celebration of his life" to be held at the Malone Golf Club Monday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m.

Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of the North Country or the Lending Library at the Wholistic Center on the campus of the Alice Hyde Medical Center.

Philip A. Livingston

PLATTSBURGH -- Philip A. "Tony" Livingston, 80, of Prospect Avenue, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on July 31, 1925, the son of Carroll and Nora (Lyon) Livingston.

Tony's grandfather was the United States Consulate Representative in Canada. His parents met there. As a youngster Tony spent many summers on the beaches of Prince Edward Island, Canada where his other grandfather was the Mayor of Charlottetown, PEI.

After losing his father at the age of 14 he helped to look after his mother and two sisters, Joyce Livingston (O'Neil) of Ray Brook, N.Y., and Joan Livingston of Croton on the Hudson, N.Y.

Tony graduated from St. John's Academy where he played many sports and was an all star in basketball.

He enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II. After serving in the Navy, he began working at McMartin Motor Company where he sold thousands of Chryslers and Desoto's. He respected Bill McMartin who was a mentor to him. He was a loyal employee who worked ten years at McMartin Motors serving as vice president and secretary. In 1957, he decided to open his own car lot. Livingston Motor Sales was formed and he owned and operated it for 45 years in Morrisonville, N.Y.

Tony was active in the community, he was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce and he sponsored many baseball and softball teams. He was also a member of St. John's and St. Peter's Churches and he made numerous donations and contributions to many clubs and organizations throughout Clinton County. He owned Livingston Mobile Home Court, ran Hertz and National Car Rental and he helped many people purchase cars through his own finance company, Livingston Acceptance. Over the six decades Tony was in business, he had thousands of loyal customers and friends.

He was a loving husband and devoted father and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Doris Livingston of Plattsburgh; four sons, Michael Livingston and his wife Kathy of Plattsburgh, Phil Livingston and his wife Cindy of Fairfax, Vt., Chris Livingston and his wife Jill of Dallas, Texas, and Gary Brown and his wife Lenore of Patterson, N.J.; two daughter, Sherry Favro of Plattsburgh and Cindy James and her companion Thomas Gebo of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Megan, Ashley and Gary Brown Jr., Bryan and Trisha James; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his second wife, the former Barbara Barber; one son, Gregg Brown; two sons-in law, Noel Favro and Donald James; and a grandson, Matthew Livingston.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at a later date in the spring.

SHIRLEY M. GARROW, 65, of Tyrell Avenue, Plattsburgh died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 18, 1940, daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Gadway) Duquette.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11:45 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

HARRIET L. WARD, of 30 Greenwood Ave., Lake Placid, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

She was born in Champlain, N.Y., the daughter of Richard and Katherine (Crawford) LaPan.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 12 noon Friday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid with Father Patrick O'Reilly officiating, Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.

Arrangements are with Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

EMMA ELIZABETH BLAIR, 90, formerly of Keeseville, died Tursday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Conway Manor in Conway, S.C.

She was born in Peru March 6, 1915, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bushey.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.
