Alvin Henry Busch

ESSEX, Vt. -- Alvin Henry Busch, 69, passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, after a valiant fight against leukemia.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on May 22, 1936, the son of the late Adolphus and Opal (Gerke) Busch.

Alvin lived a happy and loving life with his late wife, Karen (Reid) Busch and was always surrounded by family and friends. After retiring as a quality control inspector from Velan Valve Corp., his plans were dramatically altered by the serious illness of his wife and true love, Karen. His warm heart, caring personality and deep love of Karen became readily apparent to all who knew him when, despite his own ailing health and age, he provided Karen with around-the-clock care and support over several long years. His example make it easy for his family to provide the same comfort for him throughout his own illness. He was and will always be remembered, as a true role model for his children, family and friends.

Alvin's most treasured moments were spent with his family, including his children, grandchildren (for whom he built a pool) and relatives. He enjoyed trout fishing in the Adirondacks and especially loved bowling.

In his final years, he enjoyed the simple things of life such as fine wine and single malt scotch tastings with his brother-in-law, David Reid, barbecues, trips to visit his children in Seattle and Fort Lauderdale, Sunday dinners with Liz and Marty, golf outings with his sons and grandsons, as well as vacations in Mexico, England and Scotland.

His warmth, humor, friendship and loving character will be greatly missed and cherished in our memories forever.

Alvin is survived by his four children, Joseph (Kain) Busch of Seattle, Wash., Lori (Craig) Duncan of Williston, Vt., Steven (Cynthia) Busch of Plantation, Fla., and Stacey (Michael) Wood of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and by his grandchildren, Adam, Nicole, Joshua and Andrew. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Wilson (Marty Baslow) and their son Jacob of Essex, Vt.; and his sister, Barbara Gregoire of Plattsburgh. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Busch.

The family also wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Fletcher Allen Health Care, the Hematology/ Oncology Clinic, especially Angle Hill and the people of the Vermont Nursing Association.
