Ursula Havern MontbriandHAGUE, N.Y. -- Ursula Havern Montbriand, 95, of Hague, passed away at her home in Hague, N.Y., on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006. She was born Mary Ursula Havern on Feb. 15, 1911, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the daughter and only child of John and Genevieve (Riley) Havern. Following the untimely deaths of both of her parents, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Mary (Burke) Riley, from the time she was 2 years old until her graduation from Ticonderoga High School in 1929. She then attended nursing school and received her degree from Troy Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a private duty R.N. in the Ticonderoga area until her marriage to Sgt. U.S.A. Francis H. Montbriand. They were married on Nov. 8, 1941, at St. Mary's Church in Ticonderoga. She and Francis traveled extensively throughout the United States due to his career in the U.S. Army. They made their homes in San Francisco, Calif.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Long Island, N.Y.; Monmouth, N.J.; and Washington, D.C. They also lived in Japan during two separate tours of duty after World War II. Ursula thoroughly enjoyed the many experiences she had living in different places. She always looked upon life as a "grand adventure." In 1969, she and her husband Francis retired to Hague where she became an active member of the community. She had a special interest in the community organizations concerned with the health and welfare of the citizens of Hague and Ticonderoga. She volunteered at both Moses-Ludington Hospital and Nursing Home. She was a member of Church Women United, the Historical Society, and the Lake George Land Conservancy. Ursula was a revered member of the Blessed Sacrament Faith Community in Hague where she dedicated many years of service to the work of the Human Concerns Committee and served as a member of the Parish Council. In 2000, at the age of 89, she was honored as the Hague Senior Citizen of the Year in recognition of her many years of service to the community. She was predeceased by her husband, Maj. U.S.A. (Ret.) Francis Montbriand in 1989. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Francis S. (Frank) and Maureen Montbriand of Ticonderoga; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary (Mimi) and George Noppenberger of Bel-Air, Md.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Alicia and Michael Cavallino of Charlotte, N.C., and Elizabeth and Gregory Haworth of East Greenbush; three grandsons, Daniel Montbriand, David Noppenberger and his wife Angela of Baltimore, Md., and John Noppenberger of Baltimore, Md. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Emily and Julia Haworth and Ava Cavallino; several nephews and cousins; and many dear friends. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church of Hague by the Rev. Steven V. Moore, pastor, with the Rev. George Fleming as Homilist and many of Ursula's priest friends as concelebrants. A reception for relatives and friends will take place at the Hague Community Center following the Mass. The Rite of Committal will take place at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga at a later date at the convenience of the family. Pierce, 70, of Broad Street, AuSable Forks and Lakeside Court, Cliff Haven, completed his earthly life and entered into eternal life with God on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1935, the son of Harold and Gladys (Miller) Pierce. Allen graduated from Westport Central School in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Allen retired from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora where he was employed as a correction officer for 34 years. He worked for Pete's selling and servicing monitor heaters after his retirement. His early years of work were at Eggleston's Lumber Yard, Walt Bull's Trailers and Allen Roger's Corporation. Allen was a member of the AuSable Forks United Methodist Church, the Dannemora American Legion, the Wadhams Grange and the Masonic Lodge in Ellenburg. Allen was devoted to his wife and family who were the delight of his life. He especially enjoyed taking his family camping during summer vacation. Allen loved helping his friends and neighbors wherever he saw a need. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, the Rev. Virginia (Anson) Pierce, whom he married July 25, 1964, in the Wadhams Methodist Church; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronald and Noreen Pierce of Mechanicsville, Va., Steven and Roseanna Pierce of Dannemora, Timothy Pierce and fiancée Brigit Murray of Albany and Matthew Pierce of New York, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Rebekah, Joshua, Danae, Kaitlyn and Jacob Pierce. A new grandchild is expected very soon. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin and Anna Lee Pierce of Homer, N.Y., and Glenn and Marty Pierce of Canton, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mary Pierce of Saranac; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Robert, LeRoy and Harry Pierce. Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Fraternal Lodge of Masons 155 and all Masons will meet at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. for a service. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Peru Community Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Saranac Independence Cemetery. Boire, 80, of Route 9, Ingraham, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center. He was born in Coopersville on Nov. 7, 1925, the son of Alexander and Amelia (Tetrault) Boire. Donald attended Chazy Central Rural School. He married Geneva Goodrow in West Chazy on Oct. 26, 1946, she died Dec. 15, 2004. Donald was a mechanic for 28 years at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base. He was an avid I.H. enthusiast, restoring several I.H. trucks, tractors and Cub Cadets. In his younger years, he was employed by several I.H. dealerships. He was a man of many trades. If it needed fixing he could fix it. As an ambitious young man he cut trees down in the woods, brought the logs to the family sawmill, cutting them into lumber and then building his home from start to finish. Donald belonged to the Champlain Valley Antique Gas Engine Club. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Survivors include his son, Michael Boire of Plattsburgh; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Marcel and Joyce Boire of Altona, Gabriel and Marie Boire of Westboro, Mass., and Arthur and Jeanne Boire of Point Au Roche; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Madeline and Donald Favreau of Chazy and Germaine Giles of Seffner, Fla.; two grandsons, Matthew and Jason Boire of Plattsburgh; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Boire of Chazy, Rosemary Boire of Beekmantown and Evelyn Boire of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, John, Louis, Roger, Leo and Orel Boire; and one sister, Loretta Favreau. Calling hours will be held Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy. Burial will be at a later date at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy. Atwood of Niskayuna, N.Y., died on Thursday morning, Feb. 16, 2006. Kenneth was born in Plattsburgh, son of the late John Leon and Maude (Hayford) Atwood. He was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School and SUNY Canton. Kenneth was manager of Atwood Orchards & Dairy Farm for many years, worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and retired from New York State Electric and Gas. He is survived by two daughters, Judith A. Rasmussen of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Janice Lyn Atwood of Hanover, Md.; brother of Grace Hagar and Ruth Pytlak, both of Plattsburgh, Doris Toomey of North Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. Abrams, 79, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Born in New York City, she was educated in NYC, later marrying Dr. Irving Abrams, a chiropractor and eventually moving to Plattsburgh. Adelaide was employed at Plattsburgh State University for over 25 years, first in the home economics department and later in the English department. Upon retirement, she was able to devote more time to the people she loved, her family and friends. She was a very active member in the local community and was admired and loved by all who knew her. Always having a positive attitude and a zest for life, Addie devoted her time to many organizations. She was a docent at the Rockwell Kent Gallery at Plattsburgh State, a member of the Monday Bridge Club, Lioness Club, Mother's Club, Junior League, a parishioner of St. Peter's Church, an avid reader and a person who loved playing mah jongg. Adelaide is survived by a daughter, Gail Abrams Young; two grandchildren, John and Gillian; two sisters, Lena and Irene; a brother-in-law, Dominic; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Irving, who passed away three years ago. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at 10 a.m. from St. Peter's Church, Cornelia Street, Plattsburgh. Wilson Graeme FrancisPLATTSBURGH -- Wilson Graeme Francis, 75, died on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y. Son of the late S. Wilson and Mae G. Francis, Graeme is survived by three children: David and his wife Teresa and their son Camden (12) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Alan and his wife Kathy and their children, Kimberly (17), Andrew (16) and Kirsten (13) of Fulton, N.Y.; and Beth Francis of Queensbury, N.Y. He is also survived by Mary Lou Zaferakis and her children, Lisa Zaferakis and her husband TJ Marsden of London, U.K., and Andrew Zaferakis of Carlsbad, Calif. At the request of the families, there will be no calling hours. Private services will be held in the spring. They also suggest that donations be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, CVPH Medical Center, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901 or donate blood/platelets at your local blood bank. ADDIE A. McNAMARA, 91, of Malone, died Feb. 16, 2006, at the
Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, where she had been a patient since Jan.
25.
She was born in Westville, N.Y., on Dec. 1, 1914, the daughter of the
late Andrew and Emma (Nokes) Avery.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be at the convenience of
the family. Burial will be in St. John Bosco Cemetery in the spring.
