Francis G. Silver Sr.

PERU -- Francis Gerald "Peanut" Silver Sr., 86, of the Brand Hollow Road, Peru, went home to his maker, Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Churubusco, April 9, 1919, the son of Gilbert and Myra (Tourville) Silver.

Frank served in the United States Army as a member of the 32nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Company F during World War II where he fought in the Ardennes, Central Europe and the Rhineland.

He married Phyllis L. Stearns, Nov. 5, 1949. She predeceased him May 19, 1999.

Frank worked for Clinton County as Veteran's Services Officer from 1946 to 1952 and from 1956 to 1960. He was County Civil Defense Director from 1961 to his retirement in 1981.

He was a former President of the Golden Apple Club of Peru, a member of the senior citizens Council, the Peru Veteran's of Foreign War Post 309, and the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619. He enjoyed bowling, darts and pool.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis "Jerry" Silver Jr. and wife Sandra of Peru, and Glenn and Susan Silver of Maryland; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Beth and Patti; one sister, Marion Gonyea of Malone; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Gary of Florida and Hazel Stearns of Fonda; one brother-in-law, Ross Stearns and his wife Gerda of California; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his parents; brothers, Edmond, Oscar, Lawrence, Joseph, Mark and Gilbert; and sisters, Myra, Rose and Mabel.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619 will meet at the funeral home for a 1 p.m. service. Members of the Peru VFW Post 309 will meet at the funeral home for a 7 p.m. service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru. A gathering will follow at the VFW Post 309, Route 22B, Peru. Burial and full military honors will be held in the spring in the Peru Cemetery Inc.

Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Augustine's building fund.

Deaths:

ALLEN L. PIERCE, 70, of Broad Street, AuSable Forks, and Lakeside Court, Cliff Haven, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1935, the son of Harold and Gladys (Miller) Pierce.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Fraternal Lodge of Masons 155 and all Masons will meet at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. for a service.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Peru Community Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Saranac Independence Cemetery.

HERBERT EDWARD HUNTLEY, 75, of Defuniak Springs, Fla., died at the Rosewood Manor in Pensacola, Fla., on Feb. 13, 2006.

Born on Nov. 26, 1930, he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Gadway) Huntley.

A memorial service and burial will take place in the spring.

Local arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home.

ADELAIDE J. ABRAMS, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

She was born in New York City on May 10, 1926.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
