Jane TeBordo

MORRISONVILLE -- Jane TeBordo, 88, of Morrisonville, formerly of Salem, N.Y., died Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Louis and Laura Bemis Wetmore.

Mrs. TeBordo graduated from Glens Falls High School and had worked for the A&P Store and the Glens Falls Insurance Company many years ago. She was a piano teacher in Salem and also a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Greenwich, N.Y. Mrs. TeBordo lived with her son in Morrisonville for the last five years.

She was the wife of the late Willard Whipple, David Hurd, Axel Anderson and Edmund TeBordo.

Mrs. TeBordo is survived by her children, David Hurd Jr. of Morrisonville, N.Y., James (Karin) Anderson of Boca Raton, Fla., Joyce (Gerald) Getty of Salem, N.Y., and Nancy (Edward) Somers of Valatie, N.Y. Her stepchildren, Jean Thompson of Spotsylvania, Va., Pat Engwer of Glens Falls, N.Y., Betty (Walter) Ayers of Malone, N.Y., Rev. Nicholas TeBordo of Cohoes, N.Y., and John (Barbara) Anderson of Willsboro, Pa. She is also survived by a brother, Richard (Marge) Wetmore of Naples, Fla.; and many, many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the spring and will be announced by the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem, N.Y. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Salem.

Jordan Andrew Coss

PLATTSBURGH -- Jordan Andrew, three months old, passed into the arms of the Lord on Jan. 28, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., surrounded by his loving family.

Jordan was born on Oct. 22, 2005, to Katherine Beebie-Coss at CVPH Medical Center.

Jordan was a very loving baby and brought so much joy to everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. Though his time on earth was short, the lives he touched were plenty.

Jordan is survived by his mother, Katherine Beebie-Coss, who loved him beyond anything that words could describe. His maternal grandparents, Tina and Clifton Beebie-Bosworth and Peter and Patricia Beebie; as well as his maternal great-grandparents, Winifred and Robert Gosselin-Besaw, Eugene and Theresa Beebie and Catherine Bosworth. Jordan is also survived by aunts and uncles, Amanda and Matthew Whalen, Robin and David Trudeau and Shelby Sterling. Several other aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends also survive him.

Private funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at St. Peter's Church with Father John Yonkovig and Father Timothy Sullivan of Fletcher Allen Health Care officiating. Readings were done by Amanda Whalen and Robin Trudeau. Gifts were presented by Shelby Sterling. Pallbearers were David Trudeau and Joseph Currie. Burial took place at St. Peter's Cemetery. Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home, Inc.

Richard P. Bailey

PERU -- Richard P. Bailey, 71, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Caroga, N.Y., April 10, 1934, the son of the late Albert J. and Ellen S. (Mere) Bailey.

Dick was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the Teamsters Local Union 648. He retired in 1992.

He was a member of the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619 and the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge 2390.

He enjoyed hunting deer and rabbit, playing solitaire and cooking.

Survivors include his wife, Cecile M. (Ducatte) Bailey of Peru, whom he married Sept. 11, 2005, in Peasleeville; his three children and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Jack Seymour of Peasleeville, Heidi, and Dave Gillis of San Antonio, Texas, and A.J. Bailey of Peasleeville; four grandchildren, Brandon Stein and Tiffany, Trenton and Redith Byrne; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Mahlon Wright and Denise and Winston Wright, all of Peasleeville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 44 years, Shirley M. Bailey, whom he married Nov. 26, 1959, at St. Patrick's Church in Peru; and a brother, Dennis Bailey.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A gathering will follow at the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 until 8 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Peru.

Richard M. Edwards

LAKE PLACID -- Richard M. Edwards, 75, of Trillium Drive, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away Jan. 29, 2006, in Englewood, Fla., where he and his wife enjoyed the winter months.

He was born in Rome, N.Y., July 15, 1930, the son of Maurice and Laura (Campbell) Edwards.

He was educated in Rome public schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He became a licensed funeral director after graduating from Simmons School of Mortuary Science, Syracuse, N.Y.

Mr. Edwards married the former Janet Strong in 1947. Dick and Janet made their home in Lake Delta, N.Y., and Rome, N.Y., where he worked at Strong Funeral Home for nine years. He moved to Black River, N.Y., in 1961 and joined the Marsellus Casket Company family in Syracuse, N.Y. He worked for the Marsellus Company 33 years as a sales representative traveling in central New York state, Vermont, New Hampshire and the Ontario Province in Canada.

In 1989, Dick and Janet made their home in Lake Placid, N.Y. He retired from Marsellus Casket Company Inc., in August 1994.

Dick had been a member of the BPOE 96 Rome, N.Y., and was past president of the Rome Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Black River, N.Y., a member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association, and past president of Suppliers Club.

Dick is survived by his wife, Janet of Lake Placid, N.Y.; and their children, Richard M. Edwards Jr. and his wife Linda of Potsdam, N.Y., and Claudia J. Quinn and her husband Dennis of Champion, N.Y. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Jane Sutcliffe of Hampden, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Blythe E. Edwards of Rockville, Md., and Aaron R. Edwards of Albany, N.Y.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the M.B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave, Lake Placid, NY 12946. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. Mark Demers, pastor of the Adirondack Community Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.

James E. Downs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- James E. Downs, M.D., passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish since 1957 and of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus.

He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Schenectady, N.Y.

After graduating from Dannemora High School in 1944, he attended Midshipman New York State Maritime Academy from 1945 to 1946, then attended St. Michael's College from l944 to 1945, 1946 to 1947 where he received his bachelor of arts, he received his M.D. from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in 1951 and received his internship from the U.S. Naval Hospital in St. Albans. James was an active Duty U.S. Navy veteran from 1951 to 1953 and an active Reservist from 1953 to 1955. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Master Chief in the U.S. Navel Reserve.

James then received his residency of Anesthesiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City in 1953 to 1955. He started his practice of Anesthesiology in Knoxville in 1955 and was one of the three original founding physician of the Knoxville Anesthesia Group. His early years of practice included all the local area hospitals. Dr. Downs saw the start of the Departments of Anesthesia, Recovery Rooms and Intensive Care Units. In the early 1960s his practice became limited to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital and the Chest Disease Hospital. In 1968, he served on rotation with Project Hope in Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Dr. Downs was a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Anesthesiology, the Tennessee Medical Association, the Knoxville Academy of Medicine and the American Society of Anesthesiology. He retired from active practice in 1990.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James D. Downs and Valerie M. Lyons Downs of Dannemora, N.Y.; first wife, Carolyn M. Spence Downs; and son, Michael J. Downs.

He is survived by wife, Doby Noles Downs; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Charito Downs, Harrogate; stepson and daughter-in-law, Rick and Laura Noles; and grandchildren, Daniel and Brian Noles of Knoxville.

The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian Prayer Service that followed at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Father Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment to be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora, N.Y., at a later date.

William M. Wood

ARLINGTON, Texas -- William "Bill" Wood, 52, of Arlington, Texas passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 31, 1953, the son of Donald H. and Helen (Houle) Wood of Riverview.

Bill worked most of his life as a salesman. In his younger days he worked construction all over the United States with Pre Load & Company. Became a laborer in Grand Prarie and suffered severe back problems. His next step was building and selling computers and programs to many large corporations. Selling ambulances had him on the road and enjoying the many people he came in contact.

Bill always had his famous smile and a joke or two for everyone. He had friends all over the United States and will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

He is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald J. Wood of Schuyler Falls and Gary and Venus Wood; two sisters, Dianne Wood and Penny Dashnaw and her companion Larry Woodward of Riverview. Bill was the favorite uncle of all his nieces and nephews, Randy, Douglas and his wife Lori, Wayne and Nancy, Brenda of Riverview, Kerie, Erica, Wanda and Tiffany of Plattsburgh, Kelly and Joel Coston of Wilmington, N.C., Matthew Dashnaw, Crystal and Daniel Joy; great-nieces and nephews, Roxanne Wood, Shawn, Karissa, Ryan, Kayla Wood of Saranac, Austin and Logan Wood of Onchiota, N.Y.; two great-great-nephews, Jordan Raymond Joy and Wyatt Steven Supinski of Plattsburgh.

He was predeceased by his parents; and nephew, Raymond L. Dashnaw in 1994.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held later in the spring.

Joyce Eleanor Hawksby Gordon

MOOERS -- Joyce Gordon of Mooers has passed away into God's hands on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006.

She was born in Mooers on June 30, 1934, the daughter of Thomas and Marion (Forkey) Hawksby.

Her husband Osborne (Ozzie) died on Jan. 2, 2000. They were married Nov. 11, 1964.

She was a member of the Mooers United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and played with the hand bell choir. Joyce was also a member for nearly 40 years with the Miramichi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star which she was secretary for many years. She was on the Mooers Riverside Cemetery Association and she was on the board of Watson Memorial Housing.

Joyce was a graduate of Mooers Central School and Plattsburgh Business Institute.

She was employed by Monette's Furniture in Mooers as a bookkeeper-clerk for 50 years.

Joyce enjoyed knitting, gardening, cooking, baking and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John and Tracy Gordon; twin 5-year-old grandchildren, Ian and Hannah Gordon; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Hawksby; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Ronald Roberts; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Myrtle Hawksby; two aunts, Pearl Latremore and Lorraine Burdeau; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. The Miramichi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will meet at the funeral home for a prayer service to be held at 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Mooers Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Mooers Fire Department or the Mooers Methodist Church Trustee Fund.

SHEARED CHARLES AMELL, 73, of Lafayette Street, Tupper Lake, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at his residents with his family and care of High Peaks Hospice.

He was born April 8, 1932, in Tupper Lake the son of Leslie Peter and Florence Elizabeth Castell Amell.

Calling hours will be held at the Richer Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at Holy Name Church at 11 a.m. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on the day of spring burial at Holy Name Cemetery.

CAROL M. ASHTON, 59, of Cutting Road, Lewis, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Eizabethtown.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Feb. 12, 1946, the daughter of Harold S. and Julia C. (Lesperance) Feltt.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, from 5 to 7 p.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Rob Holman at the Church of the Good Shepard in Elizabethtown, Friday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in the spring.
