James A. Brown

SUGARBUSH, NY -- James A. Brown, 74, of State Route 3, Sugarbush, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 7, 1931, he was the son of James and Myrtle (Bushey) Brown.

He married Audrey Miner on Jan. 6, 1968, at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, N.Y., she predeceased him on Sept. 5, 1997.

Mr. Brown attended and graduated from Plattsburgh High School, where he was an outstanding football and track athlete. He held several track records there for many years.

He is a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the 407th Field Maintenance Squadron during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Following the his service in the Air Force he returned home and worked as a plumber for over 35 years, for the Plumber and Steam Fitters Union 773 until his retirement in 1998. He also had served as a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation park ranger at Buck Pond for 10 years and was appointed by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as a fire warden, which he served for many, many years.

Mr. Brown volunteered for the Iron Man in Lake Placid. He was an avid outdoorsmans who loved to fish, hunt and trap. His passion and legacy will be his love of nature and the outdoors. He loved animals especially his dog, Kelly and feeding the birds. Mr. Brown was a member of the AuSable Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 0504.

He is survived by three nephews, Keith Brown of Sugarbush, N.Y., Kevin Brown of Ellenburg, N.Y., and Danny Brown of Loon Lake, N.Y.; two nieces, Vanessa Rascoe of Loon Lake, N.Y., and Lynne Nichols of Sugarbush, N.Y.; one stepson, Charles Partridge of Central Square; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; one brother, Keith Brown; and one sister, Janet Norton.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in Loon Lake Cemetery in June.

Friends wishing to remember James A. Brown may make memorial contributions in memory of his love of animals to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

Amy E. Spence

LEVITTOWN, NY -- Amy E. Spence, beloved mother of Carolyn Spence Mahoney, Darlene Hesse and Diane Becker. Loving grandmother to Danny, Kerri-Anne, Kevin, Kristin, Colleen, Amy, Katelynd and Courtney. Great-grandmother to Dakota.

Amy passed on the 25 of January and will be buried in her hometown of Chazy, N.Y.

Amy was with us for 90 years and we are all at peace with our fond memories.

Her three loving daughters will announce plans for the celebration of her life at a memorial service at a future date.

Robert L. McGee

AVON -- Robert L. McGee passed away Jan. 29, 2006, at age 70 surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his wife Joan; and daughter, Colleen Elizabeth.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Tette; children, Timothy (Molly) McGee, Patricia (Dennis) Davin, Lauren (Dana) Hurlburt, Robert (Erica) McGee and Beth (Robert) Briggs; nine grandchildren; brother, William (Carol) McGee; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 350 Genesee Street, Avon, N.Y. Memorial Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Genesco, N.Y. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Avon, N.Y.

Mabel F. Latour

PLATTSBURGH -- Mabel F. Latour, 89, formerly of Margaret Street, Plattsburgh, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center with her family by her side.

She was born in Sciota, N.Y., on Feb. 23, 1916, the daughter of Peter and Jenny (Baker) St. Louis.

Mabel retired from SUNY Plattsburgh after many years of service. She enjoyed playing bingo and domestic chores. Mabel was a member of St. Peter's Church and a member of Rosary and Altar Society of St. Peter's.

She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Jenny St. Louis; her husband, Victor Latour; a brother, William Latour; her sister, Sadie Latour; and a son-in-law, George Corrow Sr.

She is survived by two daughters, Genevieve Corrow of Morrisonville and Bessie Drasco and her husband Donald of West Chazy; a sister, Mathilda Latour of Plattsburgh; six grandchildren, Nancy Berard and her husband Gregory, Lois Reome and her husband Rick, George Corrow Jr. and his wife Rolenda, John Corrow and his wife Mary Anne, Deborah Boswell and her husband Brad and Susan Lyon and her husband Keith Sr.; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery.

Friends wishing may make donations to the Early Advantages Program at Behavioral Health Services North.

Members of the Rosary and Altar Society are asked to meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. for services.

Deaths:

HILDA HELMS, 92, of Hobe Sound, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Hobe Sound.

She was born in Belmont, N.Y., on Feb. 14, 1913, the daughter of Oscar and Dora (Earle) Holmes.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, at 2 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Methodist Church with Reverend Andrea Sears officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale in May.

JAMES E. DOWNS, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice.

He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Schenectady, N.Y.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a Christian prayer service to follow at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel in Knoxville, Tenn. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Father Xavier Mankel officiating. Interment to be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora at a later date.

RICHARD P. BAILEY, 71, of Pleasant Street, Peru, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born April 10, 1934, the son of the late, Albert J. and Ellen S. (Mere) Bailey.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A gathering will follow at the Peru Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 until 8 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Peru.
