CassieRae M. Sweeney

LEWIS -- CassieRae M. Sweeney, 58, formerly of Clifton Park, N.Y., died Jan. 16, 2006, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born April 6, 1947, in Potsdam, N.Y., the daughter of Raymond J. Thornton and Hazel M. Cassavaugh, stepdaughter of Betty Thornton of Averill Park, N.Y. She was the paternal granddaughter of John T. Thornton and Bernice Raymond of Lake Placid, N.Y. She was the maternal granddaughter of the late John S. Cassavaugh and El Nora MacDougal and Leonard Shappy Sr. of Stowersville, N.Y.

Cassie is survived by her husband, David A. Sweeney, whom she married April 8, 1967; two children, Jennifer Kyratzis and David Sweeney; a brother, John T. Thornton of Louisiana; two grandchildren, Jimmy Kyratzis and Cayla Sweeney; and many special cousins who are her friends as well.

She helped her husband in business in the Capitol District for many years and worked for Price Chopper in Clifton Park for nearly 10 years, before returning to live in Lewis in November of 2005.

Calling hours will he held Thursday, Jan. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will take place immediately following the calling hours at the Lewis Congregational Church. Burial will be held in the spring in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics or to the High Peaks Hospice in Mineville, NY 12956.

Warren Page De Land

KEENE -- Colonel Warren Page De Land, 84, formerly of Pittsford, N.Y., died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

He was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Rochester, N.Y., and raised in Fairport, N.Y., the son of Harlan and Sybil (Warren) De Land.

He graduated from the University of Michigan School of Forestry in 1943.

He served as a commanding officer in the United States Marine Corp. (USMC) during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was the commanding officer of USMC Reserve Unit in Rochester, N.Y., from 1946 to 1969, retiring as a full Colonel in 1981. He was a member of, past deacon and trustee for the First Congregational Church UCC of Fairport, N.Y. He was senior vice president of the Rochester Midland Corp. before retiring to Keene, NY. Colonel De Land was a member of the town board of Pittsford, N.Y., and worked on their parks recreation committee. He was an Eagle Scout Master of the Boy Scouts of America in Pittsford, N.Y. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the first chairperson of the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK). After retiring to Keene he was active in the Hurricane Chapter of ADK and served as chapter chair and as co-trails chair. He was a member of the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. At the U of M he belonged to the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity and the Les Voyageurs Society. He was one of the early 46ers and thoroughly enjoyed bird hunting, sailing, skiing and fly-fishing.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Neal) Brown of Rochester; one sister, Jean (Jack) Hardy of Saranac Lake; two granddaughters Disa, (Brett) Pevear of Ontario and Jill (Lonnie) La Fave of Sherwood, Ore.; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sally Wellington De Land; his parents; and one son, Michael Page De Land.

No calling hours will be held. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Keene Valley Congregational Church. A military service will be held in the spring at Norton Cemetery in Keene, N.Y.

Memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund for Hurricane Mountain Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club in care of Martha Honeywell, 328 Blood Hill Road, Lewis, NY 12950.

Eva L. Roberts

CONCORD, N.C. -- Eva L. Roberts, 82, of Concord, N.C., died Jan. 12, 2006, after a short illness.

She was born in Saranac, N.Y., on May 15, 1923, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Plumadore.

She is survived by two sons, Harley Roberts of Concord, N.C., and Raymond Roberts of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; one daughter, Rita Smart of Peru, N.Y.; two brothers, Charles Plumadore of Saranac, N.Y., and Curtis Plumadore of Saranac, N.Y.; four sisters, Elanor Ezro of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Ella Murcray of Keeseville, N.Y., Jeanette Taylor of Florida and Sophia Bosley of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Roberts, in 2004; and a son, James Roberts, in 1991.

Funeral services will be held at a later date.

ALBERT R. MONTANARO III, 20, of the Old State Road, AuSable Chasm, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, as the result of injuries from being struck by an automobile near Port Kent.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Jan. 27, 1985, the son of Albert Jr. and Nora-Autumn (Finn) Montanaro.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

CHARLES A. ARNO, 99, of Witberbee Road, Witherbee, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at his home.

He was born April 11, 1906 in Ellenburg, N.Y., the son of Arthur and Frances (Dione) Arno.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in the spring.

RAYMOND FRANCIS, 67, of Plattsburgh, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the Clinton County Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on April 2, 1938, the son of George D. and Bernadette (Wilson) Francis.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in the spring.

Arrangements are with the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

ELVA MADE CHALIFOU, 80, of Mooers, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
