Geneva H. SearsPERU -- Geneva H. Sears, 98, of the Brand Hollow Road, Peru, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Croghan, Dec. 5, 1907, the daughter of Franklyn and Nancy Jane (Flood) Thayer. Geneva was a 1926 graduate of St. Augustinian Academy in Carthage. She later attended Plattsburgh Normal School and St. John's Academy. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas H. and Caroline Sears and Gary M. and Pamela Sears, all of Peru; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita M. and Kenneth Provost of Beekmantown; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Howard Sears on March 20, 1988; a brother, Walter Thayer; and a sister, Gertrude Babcock. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home with Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain and Rev. Alan D. Shnob, pastor of St. Augustine's Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in her memory may be made to Masses or the charity of one's choice. Roger Paul GarrandPLATTSBURGH -- Mr. Roger Paul Garrand, 68, of Prospect Avenue, Plattsburgh passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility. He was born in Mooers, N.Y., on Feb. 9, 1937, the son of Peter Melvin and Cora (Breyette) Garrand. Roger attended Mooers Central School, he furthered his education by joining the U.S. Air Force where he served his country for 14 years. After returning to Plattsburgh, Roger opened his own business, Garrand's Janitorial until he moved to Orlando, Fla., where he lived for many years before returning to Plattsburgh. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Orlando and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Cora Garrand; a brother, Julius "Frenchy" Garrand; and a sister, Beverly Garrand, who died in infancy. He is survived by his a son, Paul J. Garrand and his wife Patricia and their son Jeffery P. of Rouses Point; his brothers, Melvin Garrand and his wife Maggie of Plattsburgh, Jerry Garrand and his wife Margaret of Plattsburgh and Robert Garrand and his wife Debbie of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Alberta Garrand of Fort Edward, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. At Roger's request there will be no calling hours. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Mooers. Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Anna Laura UptonMOOERS -- Anna Laura Upton, 74, of Mooers, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at her residence. She was born in Mooers on July 11, 1931, the daughter of Winslow and Edith (Scott) Gokey. Having been raised on a farm, she enjoyed working her own farm throughout her life. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, craftwork, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and James Anderson of Chateaugay, Quebec and Rebecca and Kenneth W. Louden Jr. of Kenna, W.Va.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice "Winnie" and Harold Barcomb of Chazy, Gloria Upton of Mooers, Janet "Jenny" Matott of Champlain, Clara "Nick" Matott of Chazy and Wilhelmina "Huck" Moore of Chazy; a brother-in-law, Leeward Upton of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, June Upton of Rouses Point; five grandchildren, Laurie Ducharme and husband Marshall, Jennifer Cook and husband Paul, Melissa Anderson, Timothy Louden and Shawn Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Raymond Upton died July 5, 1985. Her parents; and a sister, Katherine Bartoletti also died earlier. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brendan Hardy officiating. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery in Mooers in the spring.
