Louis Alan Burke

MINEVILLE -- Louis Alan Burke, 64, of Mineville, N.Y., passed away peacefully at his son's house in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Jan. 9, 2006.

He was employed by Essex County Buildings and Grounds and had recently retired.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Shova Burke, whom he married Feb. 19, 1966; three sons and a daughter, Jeff and Angel Burke of Mineville, Scott Burke of Elizabethtown, Chris and Melanie Gumlaw of Witherbee and Michael Burke of Mineville; his mother-in-law, Anna Shova of Mineville; his five children, Christopher, Jennifer and Ryan Gumlaw and Calvin and Emily Burke; his brothers and sisters, Robert, Bruce, Herbert, Tom, Raymond, Betty and Mary; several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, William and Ella Burke; two brothers, William and James Burke; and his father-in-law, Edward Shova.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Donations in his memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice, Port Henry, N.Y.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family for their support and thoughtfulness during this time, as well as the FitzPatrick Cancer Center and Dr. John Griffin.

Henry J. Garrand

REDFORD -- Henry J. Garrand, 67, of Wallbee Road, Redford, died peacefully at home on Jan. 4, 2006.

He was born in Mooers on March 21, 1938, son of Alex and Rose Marie (Nephew) Garrand.

Henry worked most of his life as a logger and in his later years worked at various salvage yards in the area. He was a jack-of-all-trades. His hobbies included working on cars and being an avid lover of rummage sales.

He is survived by four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Audrey DuBrey of Chazy Lake, Judy and James Tatro of Mooers, Claribelle and Ted Varin of West Chazy, Patricia and Don Perkins of Chazy; five brothers and three sisters-in-laws, Kenneth Garrand of West Chazy, Maurice and Marie Garrand of Fitchburg, Mass., Ronald Garrand of Plattsburgh, Gary and Beverly Garrand of Altona and Bob and Joan Garrand of Mooers; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Jack LaDuke of Standish, a good friend and caregiver for 25 years.

He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Donald (twin of Ronald), Leonard and Arthur.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held later in the year.

Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Elizabeth A. Gilbo

PORT HENRY -- Elizabeth (Bette) A. Gilbo, 76, of Broad Street, Port Henry, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born Aug. 7, 1929, in AuSable Forks, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Mary (O'Neill) Yando.

Bette worked at Meyer's Drugstore and Gilbo's Store in Port Henry. She graduated from Port Henry High School.

She married Stanley J. Gilbo Jr. on May 9, 1948, at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry.

She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, golfing, bowling and the Red Sox. She was a member of the Moriah Ambulance Squad.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Alice Rose and her husband Tony of Vergennes, Vt., and Andrea Marcotte and her husband Joe of Moriah; her sons, Michael Gilbo of Boston, Mass., and Stanley Gilbo III and his wife Bea of Port Henry; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Marion Hickey of Port Henry; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Stanley J. Gilbo Jr.; her parents, Mary Alice and Joe Yando; and her brother, Francis "Konk" Yando.

Calling hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry.

Spring burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Moriah.

Robert G. Aubin Jr.

PLATTSBURGH -- Mr. Robert G. "Rob" Aubin Jr., 50, of the Military Turnpike, Plattsburgh, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, Jan. 9, 2006, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on July 26, 1955, the son of Robert G. and Marion (Tomkiewicz) Aubin Sr.

Rob was employed by Luck Brothers Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and being outdoors.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert G. Aubin Sr.

Rob is survived by his wife, Kathy (Fessette) Aubin of Plattsburgh. They were married March 26, 1977.

A son, Robert G. Aubin III of Plattsburgh; his mother, Marion Aubin of Plattsburgh; a brother, Meredith Aubin and his wife Diane of Schuyler Falls; a sister, Tina Bouyea of Plattsburgh; several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery later in the year.

Deaths:

RYAN ROBERT SEARS, 10, of the Patnode Road in West Chazy died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt. with his family by his side following a five-year battle with cancer.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 4, 1995, the son of Robert and Michelle (Collins) Sears.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. James Church in Cadyville.

Donations may be made to Baird 5 at FAHC, Children's Miracle Network or Ronald McDonald House.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

GORDON E. "SLIM" RASCO, 55, of Pomona, N.Y., and originally of Saranac died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Arrangements were incomplete Tuesday evening at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

MARJORIE JEAN EDDY FOURNIER, 60, of Bombay, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born June 15, 1945, in Chelsea, Vt., the daughter of the late Harrison and Myrle Burbank Eddy.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Spaulding Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Thomas Davis of Centenary United Methodist Church officiating. A private burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
