Margaret M. Evertsen

CHAZY LAKE -- Margaret M. Evertsen, 93, of Chazy Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at her residence.

She was born in Onchiota, on Jan. 11, 1912, the daughter of Dominic and Mary (Gendron) Patnode.

She did volunteer work for area colleges for many years. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain and was a member of the Court Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Daughters, the Merry Lyoneers Senior Citizens and the Dannemora Senior Citizens Groups. She enjoyed knitting, crochet and cooking.

She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Evertsen of Lansingburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Charles Jacques of Chazy Lake, Joyce and Jack Carrier of Sanderson, Calif.; a sister, Blanch Gilpin of Lake Placid; several grandchildren including Charles Jacques Jr., Mark, Brian and Scott Jacques, Ronnie Evertsen Jr., John and James Evertsen; several great-grandchildren, a great- great-grandson, Anthony; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Brandy Burch of Chazy Lake.

Her husband Jurene Evertsen died on Jan. 28, 1963.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. Interment will be in the Lyon Mountain Protestant Cemetery in the spring. There will be a reception at the Lyon Mountain American Legion following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country or the Lyon Mountain Fire Department.

Laura J. Dominy

PLATTSBURGH -- Laura J. Dominy of Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on March 18, 1954, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Gerald H. and Ruth (Williams) Dominy.

Laura attended the Campus School at SUNY/Plattsburgh and graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1972. She graduated from SUNY/Plattsburgh in 1976, earning a bachelor's degree in biology.

She was employed at SUNY/Plattsburgh for 28 years, working as a graduate assistant in the Educational Opportunity Program and a counselor in the Financial Aid Office. She served as Director of Financial Aid from 1997-2002, and was Associate Director of Financial Aid at the time of her death. She was also active in Region 8 of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association.

Laura was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plattsburgh singing in the choir, directing the hand bell choir, serving as Financial Secretary and participating in the American Baptist Women. She was also active in the Adirondack Association of the American Baptist Churches of New York State and the American Baptist Women of the Association.

Laura sang in the Champlain Valley Oratorio Society and Lakeside Chorale, supported the Adirondack Humane Society by serving on its board of directors, volunteered with Hospice of the North Country, read for the Northeast Radio Reading Service and the Center for Independent Living and represented her church while providing leadership to the Protestant Campus Ministry at SUNY/Plattsburgh.

She is survived by her parents, Gerald and Ruth Dominy of Plattsburgh; a sister, Esther Dominy of Plattsburgh; a sister, the Rev. Martha Dominy of Malden, Mass.; a brother Allan (Joni) Dominy of Fayetteville, N.Y.; a niece, Alexandra Dominy; and nephew, Gregory Dominy of Fayetteville, N.Y.; several aunts; uncles; and cousins; as well as her close friend, Leona Andrews of Plattsburgh.

A service celebrating Laura's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Plattsburgh (corner of Court and Oak streets). Laura's family will host a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.

Robert H. Bagwell

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Robert H. Bagwell of Peoria, Ariz., passed away unexpectedly Dec. 22, 2005.

He was born Aug. 21, 1955, in Spartanburg, S.C.

He was a retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Florence K. Bagwell, the former Florence Kriplin; two sons, Jeremy M. and Jacob R. Bagwell both of Peoria, Ariz.; three sisters, Kay Burke of Pauline, S.C., Susie Harvey of Gaffney, S.C., and Ruthie Baughcome of Spartanburg, S.C.

Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N. 59th Ave., Glendale, Ariz. Services were held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chimes. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, Ariz.

Deaths:

FLORENCE E. DEBYAH, 76, of Route 1113, Bangor, N.Y., died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone, N.Y. She had been a resident there since Jan. 29, 2004.

Born in Malone, Sept. 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Laura Prue Debyah.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family, Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone in the spring.

TODD J. RUSSELL, 30, of Beekmantown, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly Jan. 3, 2006, in Beekmantown.

Born Aug. 26, 1975, in Malone, he is the son of Lyle B. Russell Sr. and Darlene Perry.

Friends may call at the Flint Funeral Home Moira on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, from 4 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at 11 a.m at St. Mary's. Church in Brushton with the Rev. Thomas Moody officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Brushton.

Arrangements are through the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

RUTH V. COLBURN BATEMAN, 89, of Vale Haven Adult Home and formerly of Fort Covington Street, Malone, N.Y., died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, where she had been transferred by the Malone Volunteer Rescue Department.

Born in Malone, July 24, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Maude Reome LaRoe.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church in Malone. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

NELLIE S. MURDOCK, 88, of Crown Point, passed away Jan. 4, 2006, at Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga. She was the only child of Walter and Iva (Woodman) Swan. Born in Hamilton, N.Y., on Dec. 2, 1917.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Forest Dale Cemetery in Crown Point in the spring.

GEORGE NEWTON SMITH, 78, of Murray Street, Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

He was born on June, 7, 1927 in Syracuse, N.Y., the son of Goldie Mae (Rossiter) and Joseph Stanley Smith.

Friends may call at the Richer Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Further services will be held privately with the family.
