David J. Hess

ELLENBURG -- David J. Hess, 67, of the Number 5 Road, Ellenburg died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at the home of his brother, Louie, on the Ryan Road.

Born in Lowville, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1938, he was the son of Anthony and Millie (Brunette) Hess.

Mr. Hess is survived by three sons, David Hess of Adams, N.Y., Dwayne Hess of Adams, N.Y., and Mark Hess of Adams, N.Y.; four brothers, Louie Hess of Chateaugay, N.Y., Donald Hess of Adams, N.Y., Joseph Hess of Adams and Richard Hess; a sister, Barbara Paige of Dexter, N.Y.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; very close friends, Steve McCann of Chateaugay and Cindy Recore of Chateaugay.

He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Diane in infancy; and two brothers, Robert and Leo Hess.

Mr. Hess was employed as a carpenter with Carpenter's Union 278 of Watertown during his working career. He has been owner and operator of Hess Salvage Yard since 1962 in Chateaugay.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with the Rev. Howard McCasland, officiating. Spring burial will take place at Immaculate Heart Cemetery in Churubusco.

Mary A. Fogarty

PLATTSBURGH -- Mary A. Fogarty, 86, of Oswego Lane, Plattsburgh, died Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Troy, N.Y., on May 21, 1919, the daughter of Lester and Mary (Campbell) Walker.

Mrs. Fogarty married James Fogarty at St. Augustine's Church in Troy, N.Y., in 1949.

Mary graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy in 1936. She attended Albany Business College.

Mrs. Fogarty worked for Ramsey Chain Company in Menands, N.Y., Ross Value in Troy, N.Y., and the Law Firm of Kennedy, Dougherty and Meehan in Troy, N.Y. In 1972, she was appointed historian for the Town of Plattsburgh, retiring in 1986, chairman of the Bicentennial Committee for the Town of Plattsburgh in 1976 and co-chairman in 1985, a member of the North Country Historians Association and Clinton County Historical Association, a member of the board of voters registration for Beekmantown School District, and a past member of the Parish Council of St. Mary's of the Lake Roman Catholic Church on Cumberland Head.

Survivors include her husband, James H. Fogarty of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Kathleen Kollar of Schenectady, N.Y., and her husband Thomas; two grandsons, Steven and Daniel Kollar; one son, Gerard Fogarty of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and his wife Carol; two granddaughters, Courtney and Mollie Fogarty; a special niece, Catherine Walker of Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Church.

Calling hours will also be held Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Frank P. McDonald & Sons Funeral Home in Troy, N.Y., followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterford, N.Y.

Donations in her memory may be given to the Shriners.

Valeda M. Prunier

CADYVILLE -- Valeda M. Prunier, 94, of Cadyville, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Saranac on Jan. 22, 1911, the daughter of Charles and Mary (King) Hackett.

She enjoyed playing pinochle.

She is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Vivian Hackett and Valerie and James Demo, all of Plattsburgh; many nieces and nephews; a special friend, Louise Rascoe; and many loving friends and neighbors including Enola Craig.

Her husband, Henry Prunier died in 1996. Six brothers, Lawson, Edgar, Wilmer, Kenneth, Burton and Malcolm Hackett; and three sisters, Clayda Revoir, Veredith Tyndall and Viola Duquette, also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday from St. James Church in Cadyville. Interment will be in St. Alexander's Cemetery in Morrisonville in the spring.

Pearl D. Smith

MOOERS -- Pearl D. Smith died peacefully Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, in her sleep.

Pearl was born April 15, 1916, in Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., to Stephen L. and Clara (Colgan) Drown.

Pearl graduated from Plattsburgh State Normal School (which is now Plattsburgh State) on June 12, 1936, with a degree to teach elementary grades. Pearl later took many more classes and workshops to further her education. Pearl started teaching in one-room schools in the Mooers and Ellenburg areas and later on at Mooers Central School. Pearl retired from Northeastern Clinton Central School district in June of 1976 with 17 years of teaching.

Pearl took several years off from teaching to work for her father at S.L. Drown and Sons in Ellenburg Depot as a bookkeeper. Pearl and Lee also operated a grocery store and provided lunches for the Mooers Slipper Factory. Pearl was a member of the Mooers Presbyterian Church-Miramachi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Pearl was married on June 24, 1938, in Chateaugay, N.Y., to Leland James "Pop" Smith.

She is survived by a son, Thomas S. Smith of Mooers; two granddaughters, Angela L. Smith of Mooers and Alicia M. Hennings of Hobart, N.Y.; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family members that died earlier include her husband, Leland J. Smith on Sept. 2, 2002; a sister, Lyda Brooks; and three brothers, Martin, Alton and Pete Drown.

An order of the Eastern Star service will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot followed by a committal service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Al Johnson officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mooers Rescue Squad.

The E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers is in charge of arrangements.

Deaths:

MAFALDA (MICKEY) GIRARDI, of Peru, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center.

Mickey was born in Pennyslvania on Sept. 11, 1924, to Nicholas and Inez Fucci.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at St. Charles Cemetary in Long Island in the spring.

Arrangements are with R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
