Phyllis A. LaVarnway

MASSENA -- Phyllis A. LaVarnway, 61, of 39 Marie St., Massena, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena. She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 16, 1944, the daughter of the late Edwin and Laura (Gonyea) Buck.

She graduated from Dannemora High School and attended business school in Syracuse for key punching. She was employed at one time with the Dannemora High School as a district clerk. She later was a bookkeeper for the State Bank of Albany in Plattsburgh. She married Joseph A. LaVarnway on Nov. 19, 1966, at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, with the Rev. Monsignor Donald Kelley presiding. In 1971, the couple moved to Massena where she was employed as a lead support specialist for Sears Home Center in the St. Lawrence Centre Mall at the Sears Department Store. She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart and a Eucharistic minister. Phyllis enjoyed camping, knitting and crafting.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. LaVarnway; her mother, Mrs. Laura Buck of Dannemora, N.Y.; a daughter, Christine A. LaVarnway of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Wanda) Sweeney of Dannemora and Mrs. Donald (Sally) Yanulavich of Plattsburgh; nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews St., Massena. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, at noon at the Church of the Sacred Heart with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred presiding. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dannemora, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Lloyd Francis Coburn

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. -- Lloyd Francis Coburn, 73, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Raulerson Hospital. Formerly of Mineville, N.Y., Mr. Coburn has been a resident of Okeechobee since 1973.

He was a member of the Freedom Ranch Church and a member of the Moose Lodge of Buckhead Ridge. He was an avid outdoor sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was known as a man who "lived for his family."

Preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Beulah Coburn; and a son, Jeff LaFountain.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marlene "Lou" Coburn; six sons, Rex Coburn (Cindy) Coburn of Port St. Lucie, Robert Coburn of Moriah, N.Y., Bryan (Janet) Coburn also of Moriah, N.Y., Timothy (Angela) Coburn of Witherbee, N.Y., Greg LaFountain of Port Henry, N.Y., and Les (Kelly) Coburn of Raymondville, N.Y.

Also surviving are three daughters, Susanne Laforest of Okeechobee, Patty Smith of Beekmantown, N.Y., and Lisa (Gerald) Shockley of Okeechobee. Mr. Coburn is also survived by 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Ephrim (Jan) Coburn of Okeechobee and Bernard (Doris) Coburn of North Hudson, N.Y. There are two sisters, Maybelle Gregory of Port Henry, N.Y., and Rita (Gary) Mitchell of Lincoln Pond, N.Y.

There will be no viewing or services.

All arrangements are under the direction of the Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory in Okeechobee, Fla.

Deaths

ALICE I. FAVARO, 92, formerly of Beekman Towers, died Dec. 8, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Morrisonville on May 26, 1913, daughter of the late Clayton and Isabelle Rock.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh. Burial will be next year in Cadyville Protestant Cemetery.

GLADYS E. (DARLING) BROMLEY, 88, of Orange City, Fla., and formerly Peru, N.Y., died at her home on Nov. 7, 2005.

She was born in Lacolle, Quebec, on Oct. 3, 1917, the daughter of Percy and Lulu Brown.

Funeral services were held in the Orange City United Methodist Church in Florida. A remembrance and burial service will be held in the spring in Peru, N.Y.

CAROL BEATRICE JACOB, 54, of 45 Washington St., Tupper Lake, died Dec. 8, 2005, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Mass.

She was born in Tupper Lake on April 18, 1951, the daughter of Stafford Sidney and Helen Evelyn (Miller) Daniels.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Church. A graveside service will be held in the spring.
