Ruth P. Sackett

PLATTSBURGH -- Ruth P. Sackett, 82, of Battery Street, Plattsburgh and formerly of Saranac, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Rochester, Nov. 18, 1923, the daughter of Peter J. and Margaret (Hayse) Pendar.

Ruth was a medical secretary for Dr. Jim Reardon in Plattsburgh for many years.

She was a member of the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County in Plattsburgh, a charter member of the Clinton County Visually Impaired Support Group, which she helped establish in April 1996. She also was a volunteer at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Ruth enjoyed sewing and knitting and took great pleasure teaching others through the Home Bureau of Saranac.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, William J. Jr. and Mary (Bishop) Sackett of Keeseville; a granddaughter, Heather Sackett of Keeseville; one sister-in-law, Geraldine "Jeri" Pendar of Rochester; and three nephews and spouses, Jack and Lin Pendar of Surprise, Ariz., Doug and Sarah Pendar of Rochester and Scott and Lucy Sackett of Batavia.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Harold "Pete" Pendar.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at their home, 341 Soper Road, Keeseville, Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. A graveside service will be held at the Saranac Independence Cemetery Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sally White, pastor of both the Keeseville and Harkness United Methodist churches, officiating.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, Inc., 23 Elm St., Suite 200, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville.

James Wesley Laver III

SYRACUSE -- James Wesley Laver III, 73, of Syracuse, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, riding his bicycle; he was struck by an automobile in Syracuse.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Oct. 26, 1932, the son of James II and Flora (Maine) Laver.

Jim retired from the Syracuse Developmental Center where he had been a valued employee for many years prior to retiring. Following retirement, he worked at the In & Out Restaurant in Syracuse.

He was an active member of the Plymouth Congregational Church in Syracuse and took pride in the responsibilities he had there.

Survivors include two sisters and one brother-in-law, Dr. Norma M. Loeser of Edgewater, Md., and Doris and Robert Lounsberry of Squaw Valley, Calif.; one brother, John Laver of Plattsburgh; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one sister and brother-in-law, Jeane and Donald Shand.

There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the family plot in the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Hazel I. Fisher

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Hazel I. Fisher, 87, of South Burlington, Vt., died on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at home, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Oct. 22, 1918, the daughter of the late G. Frederick and M. Louise (Myette) Pinkman. On Jan. 4, 1943, she was married in Boston to Russell E. Fisher. He predeceased her on Aug. 25, 1995.

Hazel is survived by her two children, Russell Gary Fisher of Milton and Lynn Wilkins of South Burlington; three grandchildren, Ashton Wilkins, Amy McVay and Julie Hartmann; and by three great-grandchildren, Lewis McVay, Vivian McVay and John Hartmann.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at noon in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, South Burlington. Interment will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Peter's Cemetery, South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Hazel's memory may be made to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., So. Burlington, VT 05403.

Arrangements are in the care of the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.

BEATRICE M. PEETS, 95, of 20 St. Mark's Ave., Malone, died Dec. 2, 2005, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Malone, a resident there since Dec. 27, 2001.

She was born in Malone on July 25, 1910, the daughter of the late Henry O. and Christie (Bean) Wood.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Malone. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

BLANCHE M. FERRIS, 79, of 15 Webb Ave., Malone, died Dec. 1, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home in Malone, a resident there since March 19, 2002.

She was born in Westville, N.Y., on June 23, 1926, the daughter of the late Ralph and Laura (Robinson) Turner.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in Malone.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

LAWRENCE J. BASHAW SR., 49, of 586 Quain Road, Bombay, N.Y., died Dec. 1, 2005, at his home while under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

He was born in Malone on Dec. 10, 1955, the son of Alden and Teresa (Ghostlaw) Bashaw.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Covington.

ELIZABETH MORGAN, 83, a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., formerly of 30 Greenwood St., Lake Placid, died Dec. 1, 2005, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct. 23, 1922, the daughter of Stephen and Mathilda (Boetteker) Northrup.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon at Reiss Memorial Chapel in Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. The Rev. Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
