Esther Fox

SPRINGFIELD, VA. -- Esther Fox, 102, was born on March 26, 1903 and died Nov. 1, 2005.

A former Plattsburgh resident, Esther Fox was the first continuity writer for radio station WIRY when it was founded in 1950. She was also active in many community affairs. After her retirement from WIRY, she moved to Lake Worth, Fla., where she enrolled in art classes and continued her interest in oil painting.

When she was a teenager, she was on the school debate team. The issue that she recalled most fondly was whether women should have the right to vote. She was on the "pro" side.

After her husband of 63 years, Spencer Fox, died in 1992, she moved to northern Virginia where she has since resided.

Survivors include one son, Richard of Victor, N.Y.; one daughter, Janet Clement of Springfield, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Schenectady, N.Y., in May 2006.

Rev. Edward N. Harrell Jr.

SHELTON, CONN. -- Rev. Edward N. Harrell Jr. died Oct. 26, 2005, at Hewitt Memorial in Shelton, Conn. Son of the late Edward Harrell and late Theresa (Eddey) Harrell.

Baptist minister for the last 40 years, served at First Baptist Church, Jay, N.Y., and for over 10 years at First Baptist Church of Shelton. World War II veteran in the U.S. Navy. Also served as a social worker.

Survived by daughters Melissa Haas and her husband Kurt of Ansonia, Conn., and Candace Robichaux and her husband Julian of Jacksonville, Fla.; has four beloved grandchildren, Hailey, Matthew, Nolan and Natalie.

Memorial service will be held on Nov. 12 at First Baptist Church of Shelton at noon.

Memorial donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Shelton, 178 Leavenworth Road, Shelton, CT 06484.

Leo P. (Chum) King Sr.

KEESEVILLE -- Leo P. (Chum) King Sr., 58, of Hill Street, Keeseville, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, following a brief but courageous battle with colon cancer.

He was born in Willsboro, July 21, 1947, the son of Leo Paul and Emily (Riley) King.

He was employed for 17 years at ARPAK in Plattsburgh where he was shift supervisor.

Chum was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He was loved by all and cherished by many.

Survivors include his wife and companion of 46 years, Sylvia King of Keeseville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leo P. Jr. and Marci King of Ellenburg and Donald E. King of Champlain; one daughter, Jeanna L. King and companion Brian J. Bessey of Peru; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Harriet and Gene Robare of Willsboro and Mary and Robert Hanley of Keeseville; his mother-in-law, Margaret Walker of Keeseville; 12 grandchildren, Jellisa, David, Kylie, Michael, Tyler, Ethan, Callie, Molly, David Costin, Russell and Ryan Alloggio and Jessica Driver; special friends, Lee and Billie Jo Spinner, Yvonne and Dennis Flagg, Jim and Becky Provost, David Costin and Wendy Spooner, Carol Rougier, Shawn and Dori Driver; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Louis, Johnny, Leonard and William; three sisters, Barbara Archer, Elizabeth Hart and Carolyn Bressette; and grandchildren James and Joshua King.

At Leo's request, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service. For those who wish to visit the family to share memories, you may stop at their home, 19 Hill St., Keeseville, anytime during the day Saturday, Nov. 5.

Donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.

Robert E. Spear

ALTONA -- Mr. Robert E. Spear, 72, of the Irona Road in Altona, passed away on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Malone on Aug. 2, 1933, son of the late Frederick and Helen (McDonald) Spear.

Robert was a member of Holy Angels Church in Altona and a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Ellenburg.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa (LaFave) Spear of Altona; one son, Danny Spear and his children, Jerrica, Brentt, Taylorr, Jacob and Paige Spear, all of Ellenburg; one sister, Carolyn Drollette and her husband Lloyd of Cadyville; three brothers, Paul Spear and his wife Mary of Keeseville, Jimmy Spear and his wife Linda of Keeseville and Billy Spear and his wife Pearl of Champlain. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Marjorie A. "Marge" McCarty

PERU -- Marjorie A. "Marge" McCarty, 67, of Holden Avenue, Peru, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Ticonderoga, Feb. 23, 1938, the daughter of Thomas F. and Marion (Clark) Wisell. Marge was a 1956 graduate of Ticonderoga High School. While attending school she was employed at the Ticonderoga Sentinel where she worked as a Linotype operator.

She married James J. McCarty, May 16, 1959, at St. Mary's Church in Ticonderoga.

Marge retired February 2004 from Peru Central School, where she worked in the cafeteria for nearly 26 years.

She was an active member of the Peru Lions Club and was the first female district governor for the Northern District 20W. Marge was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church, a member of the Plattsburgh Catholic Daughters and former member of the St. Augustine's Altar Rosary Society. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook and enjoyed traveling with the Lions Club. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, James J. McCarty Sr. of Peru; four sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Cynthia McCarty of Plattsburgh, Thomas Sr. and Linda McCarty of Plattsburgh, John and Lynn McCarty of Keeseville and Robert "Stick" and Karen McCarty of Morrisonville; one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Brian Clodgo of Keeseville; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Thomas Jr. "TJ", Kenneth, Corey, Shayne and Kaitlyn McCarty, Thomas Loreman Jr., Samantha Loreman, Zachary Clodgo and Austin LaGrave; one sister, Geraldine Belden of Gainesville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; one daughter, Susan McCarty; and one sister, Janice Ott.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with the Rev. Alan D. Shnob, pastor, celebrating and the Rev. William G. Reamer, CVPH Chaplain, concelebrating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in her memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or St. Augustine's Church in Peru.

JAMES MICHAEL "SMEDLY" LUTZ, 54, a resident of Ulhlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., died Nov. 2, 2005, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y., after a long battle with kidney disease.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y., on Aug. 31, 1951, the son of George and Harriet (Luchsinger) Lutz.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Furnaceville Cemetery in Ontario, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid, N.Y., is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIS B. RIDER JR., of State Route 86, Wilmington, N.Y., died Nov. 3, 2005, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

He was born in Troy, N.Y., on Aug. 3, 1924, the son of Willis B. Rider Sr. and Luella (Reynolds) Rider.

There will be no calling hours held in Lake Placid. Calling hours will be held in Syracuse, N.Y., at the Carter Funeral Home, Inc., 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse.

The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid, N.Y., is in charge of local arrangements.

RICHARD K. GARDNER, 70, of 223 Duane St., Malone, N.Y., died Nov. 3, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, where he had been a patient since Nov. 2. He had been cared for at home by his companion and Hospice of the North Country for the past several weeks.

He was born in Malone, June 23, 1935, the son of the late Nelson "Farley" and Lena (Lamica) Gardner.

There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Malone.

Arrangements are through the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Service, Inc. of Malone.

JOVAN N. RADOJCIC, 89, of the Rand Hill Road, Morrisonville, died Nov. 4, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center, with his wife by his side.
