Raymond A. Smart

SARANAC -- Raymond A. Smart, 82, of the Silver Lake Road, Saranac, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Saranac, Oct. 20, 1923, the son of Frank and Alice (Rascoe) Smart.

Raymond served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was employed at Georgia Pacific in Plattsburgh for 34 years prior to retiring in January 1984.

He was a member of the West Plattsburgh American Legion Post 1619.

Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Patricia Smart and Kevin and Cynthia Smart, all of Saranac; one daughter and her companion Rebecca Paradise and Rick Carmichael of Connecticut; a sister, Marie Macey of Dannemora; seven grandchildren, Kirk Lisica, Brad Smart and wife, Sandra, and Ashley, Josh, Amber, Justina and Alina Smart; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Frances "Sandy" (Goddeau) Smart; one son, Stanley Smart; four brothers, Frank, Henry, Louis and Bernard Smart; and two sisters, Emma McManus and Florence Alexander.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Redford with the Rev. Philip T. Allen, pastor of the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks and St. Matthew's Church in Black Brook, celebrating. Full military honors will follow accorded by the Vermont Air National Guard.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Saranac Rescue Squad.

Joseph F. Whitney

POTTERSVILLE -- Joseph F. Whitney, 76, died Oct. 24, 2005 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Keene, he was the son of the late George and Caroline (French) Whitney.

Mr. Whitney served in Korea in the U.S. Army as a corporal.

Joe was retired as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Union of Albany and was formerly employed with Good Year Tire as a mechanic. He was the former owner of Smith's Garage of Pottersville during the 1970's and also owned Whitney Oil of Pottersville with his son.

Joe's hobbies include hunting, fishing at Cape Hatteras and was an avid Yankees fan.

Joe will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Shirley A. Whitney, who died Oct. 20, 2002; three brothers, Judson Whitney, Donald Whitney and George Whitney.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Greco and her husband, Rich, of Chestertown; one son, Scott Whitney and his wife, Karen, of Peru, N.Y.; one brother, Reginald Whitney and his wife, Mary, of Keene; two sisters, Leona Tousignanp and her husband, Edgar, of Florida and Connie Zelinski and her husband, Peter, of Keene; four grandchildren, Paul Nestor and his wife Caron of Phoenix, Ariz., Courtney Greco of Chestertown and Noel and Benjamin Whitney of Peru, N.Y.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chestertown with the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia officiating. There are no visiting hours.

Memorials may be made to the Adirondack Tri County Health Care Facility, 500 Ski Bowl Road, North Creek, NY 12853.

Lois Hameline

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada -- Lois (Smith) Hameline, 78, of Prince Edward Island, Canada, was called home to her heavenly father on Monday, Oct. 24, 2005. She was surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter on Patriot Drive in Plattsburgh.

Daughter of the late Frederick J. and Eunice Smith, Lois was a true "island girl" who grew up on the ocean. She was a teacher in a one-room school house on Prince Edward Island. In her late 20s she taught in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

She met Richard Hameline skiing at Mount Saint Sauveur in the Laurentians. In 1956, they were married at St. Augustine's in Montreal.

Together they raised their children in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where Lois resumed her teaching career part-time. In 1962, in a personal response to the scare of the Cuban Missile Crisis, she became an American Citizen. Lois was a champion of the civil rights movement and never missed an opportunity to exercise her right to vote. She was proud to have worked on the election campaign of the first ever elected African American Supreme Court Justice in America. In every place that she lived, Lois was always an active supporter of her community and Catholic parish.

From 1977 to 1990, Richard and Lois owned and operated the Chalet Motel (at the US/Canadian border) in Champlain, N.Y. Upon retirement, they moved to Cherry Hill at Still Meadow Farm in Mount Stewart, Price Edward Island, Lois' childhood home. Lois and Richard's inspiring romance was infused with many adventures and included much travel together throughout their marriage.

Lois is survived by her husband, Richard Hameline of Prince Edward Island and their six children, Mary Ann Castine of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Martin and his wife, Silva, Hameline of Glendale, Calif.; John and his wife, Carol (O'Hara) Hameline, of Montague, Prince Edward Island; Peter and his wife, Nicole Hameline, of West Chazy, N.Y., Katherine and her husband, Eric O'Hara, of Rouses Point, N.Y., and Paul and his wife, Paula Hameline, of Bloomingdale, N.Y.; and 18 grandchildren, Katie, Craig, Michael, Andrew and Christopher Castine, Christine and Alexandra Hameline, Hans, Erik, Hanna, Amelia and Abigail Hameline, Anneliese Hameline, Emily and Lily O'Hara, Elijah, Louisa and Luke Hameline. Lois also leaves two younger brothers, Doug and his wife, Alberta Smith, of Toronto, Canada and Eric and his wife, Joan Smith, of Prince Edward Island, Canada; and two nephews and two nieces.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Roman Catholic Mass will celebrate Lois' love-filled life on Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.

Robin Ann Morhouse

SUMMIT, N.J. -- A memorial service is planned for Mrs. Robin Ann Morhouse in Ticonderoga for the summer.

Mrs. Morhouse died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at her home in Summit.

Mrs. Morhouse was born in Paterson, lived in Wyckoff and New York City before moving to Summit 32 years ago.

Mrs. Morhouse also spent her summers with her family at their family home in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Mrs. Morhouse was a teacher in Allendale and Dover, N.J., and New York City during the 1960s before dedicating her life to her family.

Mrs. Morhouse was a member of the board of trustees of the Benedictine Foundation in Ridgely, Md. She was also a former member of the board of trustees of the Our House Foundation in Summit. She was a member of the Beacon Hill Club in Summit and the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield.

Mrs. Morhouse is survived by her loving husband of 36 yews, Sanford W. Morhouse; two daughters, Cindy Bardwil and Julie Morhouse; her son, Sanford "Skip" Morhouse; three grandchildren, John, Andrew and Margaret Bardwil; and a sister, Marilyn Gaul.

Olive M. Flynt

PLATTSBURGH -- Olive M. Flynt, 86, of Tremblay Avenue, Plattsburgh, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Beekmantown on Aug. 26, 1919, daughter of the late James and Ada (Montgomery) Mason.

Olive received her bachelor's of science and master's of science degrees from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She retired from SUNY Plattsburgh in August of 1981 after serving 27 as assistant to the president. Prior to that she held positions with the Social Security Administration, Department of Social Services and A. Mason and Son's, Inc.

Mrs. Flynt was active in many community organizations over the years and did volunteer work at Broad Street School following retirement. She was currently a member of the College Alumni Association, New York State Retired Teachers Association, Ladies of the Elks, Senior Citizens Council of Clinton County, charter member of the College's Heritage Society, member and honorary board member of the Plattsburgh College Foundation Inc., East Beekmantown Cemetery Association and Trinity Episcopal Church of Plattsburgh. Olive was a recipient of the "Once in a Century Alumni Award" and the college's "Presidential Award of Honor."

Olive is survived by her husband, Willard Flynt of Plattsburgh.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. from Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in East Beekmantown Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

Donations in Olive's memory may be made to an endowment fund in Plattsburgh College Foundation for Scholarships.

BRIAN H. TROMBLEY, 40, of Route 9N, Plattsburgh and formerly of Route 9, Keeseville, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at his home in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 11, 1965, the son of Herman Trombley and Gloria (Mitchell) Lenendecker.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

RHOANE A. REEVES, 72, of Route 9, AuSable Forks, died Oct. 24, 2005 at her home in AuSable Forks.

Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.

T. JAMES STRACK, 61, of Parkside Drive, Lake Placid, N.Y., died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at the Westchester Medical Center, ValHalla, N.Y., after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Keene Valley, Sept. 10, 1943, the son of Paul and Frances (Ryan) Strack.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. An American Legion prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, at 8:30 p.m. followed by a Bible vigil service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
