Bennet W. Dame

CHAMPLAIN -- Bennet W. Dame, 91, died Oct. 15, 2005, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home.

He was born April 16, 1914, in Altona, the son of Arthur and Anna (Pyper) Dame. He later moved to Champlain and graduated from Champlain High School in 1932.

He was employed for 30 years at the former Sheridan Iron Works in Champlain and retired in 1973.

He is survived by one brother, Emmet Dame of Champlain, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Horne of Skaneateles, N.Y., and Mrs. Anthony (Betty) Gugliotta of Tucson, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews. He was never married.

He was predeceased by a half brother, Orville J. Mantz Jr.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona. Arrangements are with M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.

Clement A. Devan

CADYVILLE -- Clement A. "Snuffy" Devan, 81, of Route 3, Cadyville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, at his home with his family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Cadyville on Aug. 22, 1924, the son of John B. and Rita (Tormey) Devan. Clement was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1619, a charter member of the Cadyville Fire Department and a member of the Siberian Rod & Gun Club.

Clement retired from Clinton Correctional Facility, where he was a plumber and steamfitter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clement was a member of St. James Church in Cadyville. He was predeceased by his parents John and Rita Devan; two brothers, Earl "Jughead" Devan and William "Bill" Devan and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Miller.

Clement is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Ramsey) Devan, whom he married in 1945; a son, James Devan and his wife, Bonny, of Peru; three daughters, Pat Duffany and her husband, Jim, of Plattsburgh, Donna Dukette of West Plattsburgh, and Debbie Fellion and her husband, Larry, of Cadyville; two sisters, Elizabeth Connor and her husband, Samuel, of Cadyville, and Helen Miller of Cadyville; seven grandchildren, James Dukette, Beth Hoopes and her companion, Scott Szczypien, Mike Devan and his wife, Sally, Katie Cutcher, Bill Duffany and his companion, Heidi Pellerin, Sharon and Jamie Devan; six great-grandchildren, Kayla and Alex Hoopes, Kelsey and Cameron Cutcher, Cody and Ryan Devan; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville.

Deaths:

HAZEL MARIE BINGEL, 76, formerly of Keysor Street, Lyon Mountain, died Oct. 16, 2005, at the CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility in Plattsburgh.

Funeral arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home and will be announced later this week.

JAMES C. WRIGHT, 79, of Route 3, Cadyville, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point.

He was born in Saranac on July 26, 1926, the son of Ernest and Mabel (Salls) Wright.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

DORA LAWLISS, 93, of Town Line Road, West Chazy, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center.

Calling hours and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Brown Funeral Home of Plattsburgh.

CAROL A. COLLINS, 82, of 9 Bailey Road, St. Regis Falls, died at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone Friday, Oct. 14, 2005.

Born in St. Regis Falls on April 10, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Mable (Sawyer) Gokey.

There are no calling hours. The funeral service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are through the Anderson Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.
