Obituaries: 

Blanche Theresa DeFayette

DANNEMORA -- Blanche Theresa DeFayette, 85, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005. She is survived by her sisters, Janet Phinney of Bossier City, La., and Alice Stevens of Gainesville, Fla.; her brother, Melvin Goddeau, of Albany; nephew Jack Phinney of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al DeFayette of Dannemora; her father and mother, Oscar and Margueritte Goddeau of Dannemora; and sister, Marion Strange, of Ticonderoga.

Blanche was born in Dannemora on May 31, 1920. She was a loving woman who enjoyed her family and friends and will be missed very much by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Cadyville on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Plattsburgh.

Delphine E. Baker

MOOERS -- Delphine E. Baker, 91, formerly of Miner Farm Road, Chazy, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Altona on March 20, 1914, daughter of the late Enos and Rosalie (Brean) Goodman.

Delphine was an avid bingo player, she sold raffle tickets for her church and was a member of St. Louis de France Church in Altona.

Delphine is survived by four children, Joyce Hindes and her husband, Richard, of Plattsburgh, Ronald Baker and his wife, Lillian of Frankfort, Lawrence A. Baker Sr. and his wife, Carol, of Chazy, Carol Bulriss and her husband, Leonard, of Mooers; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; several brothers-in-law; several sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; her cat, Booboo, and her dog, Teaseawee. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Debbie Taylor and Cindy Burnell for their devotion and care.

Delphine was predeceased by her husband, Dorsey J. Baker, in 1997; and a grandson, Gary LaPierre. She was the last of 16 siblings.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Altona. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Louis de France Church in Sciota. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at Holy Angel's Church Hall in Altona.

Donations in Delphine's memory may be made to the Mooers Volunteer Ambulance.

Helen I. Elder

LEWIS -- Helen I. Elder, 49, of Osawentha Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born Dev. 9, 1955, in Kentucky, the daughter of Jesse and Jane (Bullins) Raby.

If you met Lynn, you most likely heard her speak of her Lord Jesus and his saving grace and how you could know Him as well. She was always praising Him, speaking of Him, or reading the Word of God and she left this world praising Him, then off into His presence she went. Ministering to others was her joy.

She loved life and loved her family. If she could talk to you right now, she would ask you to come and be at the Church Tuesday night at 7 p.m. for her Going Home Celebration (although others might call it a funeral). We will be celebrating her life and celebrating with her here, as she is doing before the throne of God. She leaves behind her devoted husband and best friend Daniel (Dan), her daughter Chrystal, son Daniel, son Robert, and two grandchildren, Jessica and Austin and son-in-law Terry. Also four sisters and three brothers: Rosemary, Brenda, Betty June, Elizabeth, Pat, Tony, and Jackie. She is predeceased by her mother, Jane, father, Jesse, and brother, Tim.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at W.M. Marvin's Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the North Country Alliance Church at PARC. (The new church on the old Plattsburgh Air Force Base) in Plattsburgh. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lewis Cemetery in Lewis. Gilbert H. White

Westport -- Gilbert H. White, 91, of the Neighborhood House in Keene Valley, formerly of 6615 Main St., Westport, died Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

He was born May 5, 1914 in Essex, N.Y., the son of Dean and Albena (Progin) White. He attended the Big Rock District School and graduated from Elizabethtown High School. He was married to Lena Hathaway for 54 years.

Gib worked for more than 41 years with the Grand Union Company and 23 years at Champlain Milling in Westport. He helped establish the Westport Men's Club, the Westport Ski Club, the Memorial Day Ceremonies in Westport; he established the initial house numbering system in Westport and had the distinguished honor of being named the Citizen of the Year for Westport in 1995. He belonged to the Westport Fire Department for 39 years, and was a charter member of the Westport Ambulance Squad. He was a member of Sisco Lodge 259 of the Free & Accepted Masons for 66 years and served as master in 1944, and was District Deputy Grand Master Essex District in 1972, and a member of the Bessboro Chapter 651, and Adirondack Star Chapter 677, Order of the Eastern Star, the Westport Fish and Game Club, and a Baptist Member of the Westport Federated Church for 66 years. He enjoyed traveling and camping, playing the drums for dances, drafting homes and carpentry, snowmobiling, hunting and photography.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Gary Dickerson of Lewis, one son and daughter-in-law Dean and Angela White of Hudson Falls, a sister Florence LaMountain of Willsboro, a sister and brother-in-law, Etta (White) and I. Herbert Potter of Elizabethtown, and a sister-in-law, Lunett White of Elizabethtown, four granddaughters and their spouses, Robin and Brad Jaques of Lake Placid, Cynthia and Kevin Lawson of Lewis, Heather White, of South Glens Falls, and Tracey White of Hudson Falls, five great-grandchildren, Olivia Jaques, Nashden Dickerson, Eleshia White, Gavin White, Logan White, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lena, two brothers, Walter Boardman and Theodore White and two sisters, Aletha (White) Watson and Grethel (White) Myers.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.Wednesday with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. at W.M. Marvin's Sons funeral home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the Westport Federated Church. Burial will follow in Black River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westport Fire Department, Westport, NY, 12993, Westport Emergency Squad, Westport NY, 12993, or to the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, PO Box 46, Keene Valley, NY 12943.

Deaths: 

Harriet E. Hurteau, 81, of Gallop Road in North Bangor, died Friday night, Oct. 7, 2005, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Donald LaValley of the Bacon Road, North Bangor, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country Inc.

Born in Dickinson, N.Y., June 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Blanche Jessmer Manchester.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church with the Rev. Raymond Moreau officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

C. Patrick Connery, 61, of Seattle, Wash., and formerly of Ticonderoga, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2005 in Seattle.
