Verda I. Stevens

PLATTSBURGH -- Verda I. Stevens, 68, of South Catherine Street, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005, at her home. She was born in Plattsburgh on Aug. 17, 1937, daughter of the late Edward F. and Irene (Paro) Brown.

Verda was a Certified Day Care Provider privately and through Clinton County. She was a loving, devoted wife and mother.

Verda is survived by six children, Debra M. Polhemus of Plattsburgh, Darla Stevens Reeves and her husband William of Shelburne, Vt., Jill Hanley and her husband Ralph of Plattsburgh, Gilbert D. Stevens of Beekmantown, Craig J. Stevens and his wife Jay Ann of Plattsburgh and Laura Stevens-Crouse and her husband Mick of Plattsburgh; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Brown of Plattsburgh and Gerald Brown of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Sandra King and her husband Wayne of Peru and Patricia Stone and her husband Herman of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

Verda was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert J. Stevens, on Oct. 26, 1998; and a sister, Dorothy Rutler.

Calling hours and funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Timothy J. Ahern Sr.

CLAYBURG -- Timothy J. Ahern Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at his home in Clayburg, N.Y. He was born Oct. 16, 1934, the son of Frank and Helen (Donovan) Ahern.

He was a sheet metal worker for many years and retired from Ahern Sheet Metal of South Platt Street, where he belonged to Local 83 of Albany; he was an avid golfer and was in the U.S. Air Force, where he received several medals.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie (Fitzgerald) Ahern, whom he married Sept. 30, 1961, at the Church of Assumption in Redford. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Molly Ahern Jr. of Cadyville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Arthur Harris of Morrisonville; four granddaughters, Kalyn and Trista Harris and Morgan and Madison Ahern; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Shirley Ahern of Saranac; a sister-in-law, Sandra Ahern of Saranac; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen (Donovan) Ahern; one brother, Francis Ahern; one sister, Mary Yanulavich; and a cousin, Robert Ahern.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Redford.

Deaths:

GLEN F. "CHICHIMUS" CROMP, 54, of 302 Travers Road, Malone, N.Y., died Oct. 4, 2005, at the Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone. He had been a patient there since Sept. 13.

He was born in Malone on April 10, 1951, the son of Roger and Jean (Gonyea) Cromp.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the New Covenant Church in Malone, with the Rev. Matthew Molnar officiating. Burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery.

EVA D. FAVRO, 73, of Rouses Point died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Utica, N.Y.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Rouses Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Rouses Point at 11 a.m. on Saturday. A full obituary will appear in Friday's Press-Republican.
