Joseph C. Snow

NARROWSBURG, N.Y. -- Joseph C. Snow, of Narrowsburg, N.Y., Superintendent of Mid-Orange Correctional Facility and a longtime resident of the area, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. He was 76.

The son of the late Clarence and Marian (D'Avignon) Snow, he was born Oct. 30, 1928 in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Mr. Snow was a veteran of the U.S. Amy, where he received a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He was a member of the Tusten-Highland Post 6427 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 0315.

Mr. Snow retired as Superintendent of Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick, N.Y., in 1991, after 36 years of dedicated service. During his career he received many awards, including the prestigious State Chairman's Highest Award given at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for Significant Contributions to the Support of the Military Reserve Forces. He was noted for implementing many innovative programs at the prison and received many commendations for his dedication to the community service.

Joseph was a devoted husband to his wife Dolores of 53 years and loving father who cherished his family. He was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Souza) Snow, at home; two sons, Michael Snow and his fiancée Patricia Spencer of Pine Bush, N.Y., and Daniel Snow and his wife Stacie of Beach Lake, Pa.; two daughters, Cynthia Kryger and her husband Michael of Montgomery, N.Y., and Joanne Snow and her husband Gerard Manzi of Narrowsburg, N.Y.; one sister, Jimmie Bernard of California; eight grandchildren, Michael and Joseph Snow, Sarah Snow and Ryan O'Keefe, Katy Duffany and Chris Terwilliger and Jenna and Johnny Snow-Manzi; one great-grandchild, Justin Duffany; and several nephews.

There will be a private viewing for the family at Rasmussen Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, N.Y., on Wednesday, Oct. 5. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the Holy Name R.C. Church in AuSable Forks, N.Y., at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 7. Father Phillip Allen will officiate. Interment will follow immediately at the Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Veterans of Foreign Wars or St. Jude's Children.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, N.Y.

Donald R. Grey Sr.

TICONDEROGA -- Donald R. Grey Sr., 66, of Old Chilson Road, Ticonderoga, N.Y., died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

He was born Oct. 30, 1938, in Crown Point, N.Y., the son of George and Ruth (Laing) Grey.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Grey of Ticonderoga; his mother, Ruth Tubbs of Crown Point; his sons, Donald Jr. and his wife Pamela, Robert and his wife Roxie and Daniel and his wife Cori, all of Ticonderoga; his daughter, Suzan Hunston and her fiancé Eric Senneville of Ticonderoga; and 10 grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry.

Timothy J. Ahern Sr.

CLAYBURG -- Timothy J. Ahern Sr. died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, at his home in Clayburg, N.Y. He was born Oct. 16, 1934, the son of Frank and Helen (Dovan) Ahern.

He was a sheet metal worker for many years and retired from Ahern Sheet Metal of South Plattsburgh, where he belonged to Local 83 of Albany; he was an avid golfer and was in the U.S. Air Force, where he received several medals.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie (Fitzgerald) Ahern, whom he married Sept. 30, 1961, at the Church of Assumption in Redford. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Molly Ahern Jr. of Cadyville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Arthur Harris of Morrisonville; four granddaughters, Kalyn and Trista Harris and Morgan and Madison Ahern; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Shirley Ahern of Saranac; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Ahern of Saranac.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Helen (Dovan) Ahern; one brother, Francis Ahern; one sister, Mary Yanulavich; and a cousin, Robert Ahern.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 8, at 9 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption in Redford.

Arthur P. Horton Sr.

PORT HENRY -- Arthur P. Horton Sr., 70, of Port Henry, died at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1935, in Carmel, N.Y., the son of the late Percy and Dorothy (Newton) Horton.

He was a mechanic for Conrail & Metro North Railroad, New York City, and formerly lived in Millerton, N.Y. He had resided in Port Henry for the past nine years.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Flossie (Brizzie) Horton.

He is survived by his companion, Shirley Vazquez of Port Henry; five children, Arthur P. Horton Jr. of Dickinson Center, N.Y., Frank Horton of Port Henry, Sherry Rabideau of Wassaic, N.Y., Brenda Culver of Claverack, N.Y., and Melissa Horton of Dickinson Center, N.Y.; two brothers, Benjamin Horton of Millerton, N.Y., and Richard Horton of Salisbury, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, N.Y. A service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home. Interment will follow at Amenia Island Cemetery in Amenia, N.Y.

CONNIE GAIL ALLEN, 50, of Memory Lane, Altona, N.Y., died unexpectedly Oct. 3, 2005, at her home.

She was born in Azle, Texas, on Feb. 3, 1955, the daughter of Paul and Juanita (Coleman) Hatcher.

There will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Brown Funeral Home, Altona.

CONNIE L. BIGNESS, 53, of Route 37, Westville, N.Y., died Oct. 3, 2005, at her home, while under the loving care of her family and Hospice of the North Country, Inc.

She was born in Malone, N.Y., on April 11, 1952, the daughter of the late Eugene and Alice (Allen) Jock.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington, with the Rev. Edward Papp officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Bombay, N.Y.
