Tara LaDukePEASLEEVILLE -- Tara LaDuke, 24, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on Sept. 29, 2005, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh on March 20, 1981, the daughter of Bernard LaDuke and Deborah (Depo) LaDuke. She worked in the bakery at Price Chopper in Plattsburgh while attending college. She is survived by her maternal family, her mother Deborah LaDuke; one brother, Bernie LaDuke and companion Sarah Braid of Wilmington; Tara's boyfriend, Amir PaPa; her grandmother, Almeada Depo; several aunts and uncles, Archie and Debbie and Ronnie and Joyce Depo of AuSable Forks; Ricky and Linda Depo of North Carolina; and Nancy Taylor and companion Bernie, and Penny Depo of AuSable Forks; Linda Depo of Keeseville; and one nephew, Conner LaDuke. She is also survived by her father, Bernard LaDuke of Keeseville; several aunts and uncles of the paternal family, Carol and Pete Mickalonis of Stillwater, N.Y., Edie and Tag LaDuke of Plattsburgh; Patricia and Russell Kelly of Clintonville; Geraldine and Wayne Mitchell of Lake Placid; Gordon and Christine LaDuke of Peasleeville; Sylvia and Walter Eldred of Plattsburgh; Bobby LaDuke of Maine; Bernie Rosie of Black Brook; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Arthur Depo Sr., and uncle, Danny Depo; she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Bernard and Veronica LaDuke Sr., and one aunt, Georgianna Rosio. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. Sally K. Malone-SowleyPLATTSBURGH -- Sally K. Malone-Sowley, 60, of Olivetti Place died Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Danville, Ky., on Jan. 6, 1945, the daughter of Dr. Edward H. and Shirley (Ilsley) Malone. Sally grew up in Amityville, Long Island, N.Y., where she graduated from Amityville Memorial High School in 1963. She graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1966. A nursing supervisor, Sally joined the staff at the then-new CVPH Medical Center in 1967 and was instrumental in the merger of the original two city hospitals. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Sally was an active outdoors person, skiing at Whiteface, sailing on Lake Champlain in the earlier Mayor's Cup races, and being a part of the re-enactment of the Battle of Valcour Island during the Bicentennial Celebration held here in 1976. She also loved animals. Survivors include her daughter, Katherine I. Sowley and her husband, Nicolas Carboni of Strasbourg, France; her son, Stephen C. Sowley of Chicago, Ill.; two grandsons, Maximilien and Edward Carboni; her mother, Shirley Ilsley Malone; and three sisters and one brother, Carolyn Malone of Amityville, Stephen Malone and his wife, Ping, of Farmingdale, Long Island, Patricia Malone-Meuse of Cork, Ireland, and Magi Malone of Billings, Mont. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Unitarian Church on Palmer Street, followed by a Celebration of Life at 5 p.m. There will be a reception at the church after the service. "Jim" LaValley, 82, of Salmon River Road, Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Plattsburgh on Sept. 9, 1923, the son of Heman and Rose (Mitchell) LaValley. Jim graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1942. He joined the United States Air Force March 9, 1943, and served until his honorable discharge on Dec. 9, 1945. He married Alice Ruth Pratt on Dec. 27, 1945, in Warrensburg. He worked for Millbrook Bread for 34 years prior to retiring in 1985, Stanley Clark Construction, the Adirondack Pennysaver, and Dan Newell of Cadyville. He was a charter and lifetime member of the Peru VFW Post 309. Jim enjoyed woodworking and camping. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Alice Ruth LaValley of Plattsburgh; two sons and daughters-in-law, James Jeffrey and Geneva LaValley of Grayson, Ky., and Timothy Robert and Barbara LaValley of Leon, Kan.; a sister, Lorraine Hart of Plattsburgh; a brother, Robert LaValley of Plattsburgh; seven grandchildren and spouses/companions, Tracy and Michael Green, Jeffrey Scott and Jessica LaValley, Jerod LaValley, Chad and Kellee LaValley, Nichole LaValley and Harold Seymour, Bethany LaValley and Andrew, and Jessica LaValley and Nick Heinz; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Jerry Lynn LaValley, on Oct. 7, 2003. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru with the Rev. Bruce A. Overstreet, pastor of the North Country Alliance Church in Plattsburgh, officiating. BarberELLENBURG CENTER -- Doris H. Barber, 70, of Ellenburg Center, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh on June 25, 1935, the daughter of Harvey and Evelyn (Giguere) Rascoe. She was employed for more than 25 years as a nurses aide at CVPH Medical Center. She enjoyed traveling and spent her winters in Santa Monica, Calif. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and William Waldron of Chazy Lake, Debbie and Robb Savoya of Seattle, Wash., Dawn and Dennis Gregory of Ellenburg Center; her companion, Robert Eshoo of Santa Monica, Calif.; her grandchildren, William Waldron, Jason and Kim Waldron, Matthew Barber, Chad and Kerri Barber, T.J. and Leila Couture, and Nicole Savoya; "Nanna's" great-grandchildren, Ariel and Jason Waldron Jr., Ethan and Connor Barber; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved Chihuahua, Taco. Her husband, Donald G. Barber, died in 1993. Two brothers, James and Clyde Rascoe, also died earlier. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. James Church in Cadyville. Interment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Plattsburgh. Towle, 82, of State Street, Malone, died Sept. 29, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Born on Oct. 26, 1922, in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of Charles and Leah (Dumas) Towle. On May 26, 1951, he was married to Madonna Poupore at St. John Bosco Church, Malone, with the Rev. Norman Poupore officiating. Survivors include his wife of 54 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Diane Towle of Malone; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Angela and Charles Wemette of Malone, Celeste and Francis Sansone of Malone, Mary Claire and James Astarita of St. James, N.Y., Cecilia White of Malone, Jennifer and Derek Champagne of Malone; a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Joseph Condron of Lanesboro, N.Y.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Leo Towle of Pawling, N.Y., and Alfred and Alice Towle of Wingdale, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, James and Alexander Towle; and a sister, Cecile Hunkins. Mr. Towle graduated from Franklin Academy, entered the U.S. Army, 26oth Engineer Combat Battalion, on Dec. 28, 1942, and was honorably discharged March 10, 1946 as a tech sergeant. During that time he received an American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon his return to the North Country, he earned a bachelor's degree from Clarkson University in 1950; while there he was a member of the Alpha Chapter of the Omicron Pi Omocron Fraternity. Towle was owner and manager of the Boyea Brothers Mill, Malone, for several years and retired in 1986. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was an avid New York Yankees fan, and he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. Mr. Towle was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, a member of the Notre Dame Parish Council, Holy Name Society, Malone Amvets, Malone Golf Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Malone Bowling League, where he served as secretary for several years. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. today in Notre Dame Church, Malone. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements are with St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home in Malone.
