Obituaries:
Frank E. Hunt Sr.GRANVILLE, N.Y. -- Frank E. Hunt Sr. of Granville passed unexpectedly at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Sept. 22, 2005. He was born in Plattsburgh on April 13, 1941, the son of Frank Otis and Grace M. (Hutchins) Hunt. Frank retired in December 1997 from the NYS Dept. of Corrections with the rank of sergeant after 32 years. Frank began his service as a volunteer firefighter at 16 with the Saranac Fire Co. in 1957 and has served over 48 years with three fire companies. Frank served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964, aboard the USS Cambria during the Cuban Missile Crisis and two tours of the Mediterranean Sea. He served as a baseball coach with Granville Little League; a member of the Free and Accepted Mason of the Granville Lodge 55. Active with the Granville United Methodist Church, he served on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was a Republican Committeeman for the Town of Granville, as well as a custodian for the voting machines. After retirement, he drove a school bus for Granville Central Schools, drove residents at the Holbrook Adult Home and transported dealer trades for McEachron Motors. Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carole A. (Collins) Hunt; his son, Frank Hunt Jr. and his wife Patricia of Granville; his daughter, Judith Taylor and her husband Ronald Taylor Jr. of W. Pawlet, Vt.; five grandchildren, Brianna, Nicole and Gabrielle Hunt of Granville and Mikayla and Ronald Taylor III of W. Pawlet, Vt. He followed his grandchildren everywhere and supported their activities. In addition to the many wonderful memories, they will certainly remember two phrases he repeated to them many times, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" and "Keep on trucking!" Frank was predeceased by a sister, Judith Ann Hunt, in addition to his parents. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1st, at 10 a.m. at the Granville United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made to activities in Granville: the Little League, Rescue Squad, United Methodist Church, Fire Department or a local charity of one's choice. Leland H. RiversNEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- Leland "Lee" Rivers passed away on Sept. 7, 2005, at his home in Virginia at the age of 69. He was born in Malone, on Jan. 25, 1936, the son of John Rivers and Delia (Hosler). He was baptized at St. John Bosco on Feb. 16th of the same year. He was predeceased by his parents and the following siblings: John, Robert, Lawrence, Chester, Adolphus, Martha, Irene, Marguerite and Ermaline. He is survived by one sister, Evalina Gravel of Keeseville; his former wife Barbara (Unwin) and their children, Kitten and Kelly; his former wife Rose (Hutchins) and their children, Randy, John, Sherri and Lee; and by many grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He grew up and lived his early life in Malone. He served in the U.S. Air Force from January 1955 until December of 1958. He also served on the Malone Village Police Department with his brother, former police chief Bob Rivers. In the sixties, while still in Malone, he played rhythm guitar in a traditional country-western band whose other members included his brother Bob and their nephew Norman Rivers. The band played locally and in Mt. View. He moved south in September of 1969 and established a career with an international fibers production plant that would span over 20 years, working from the entry level position up into management. He chose early retirement from that profession in 1991 and returned to school to become accredited with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services as an armed security officer. In 1995 he was forced into full retirement by his emphysema (C.O.P.D.). He kept busy with his grandchildren and his Chihuahua companion Todd for another 10 years. Despite his battles with various illnesses "" he made it through with his personality and sense of humor. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Notre Dame Church in Malone on Sept. 26th, at 1 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his name to the American Lung Association to further education and research about C.O.P.D. (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), or to the American Red Cross in support of Hurricane Katrina Victims. Jerome C. GerhardtMAPLE HEIGHTS, OHIO -- Jerome C. Gerhardt, beloved husband of Christine (Cyr); father of Ireland Nicole of Maple Heights; dearest son of Margaret (Palisin) of Plattsburgh, and the late Robert; brother of James (Heather); and loving uncle of many. Margaret Mary Leclerc FroehlichEDEN, N.C. -- Margaret Mary Leclerc Froehlich, 93, of Eden, died Thursday evening, Sept. 22, 2005, at Morehead Nursing Center, Eden, N.C. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph of the Hills Catholic Church. Mrs. Froehlich was born in AuSable Forks, N.Y., to the late Luger and Blanche Leclerc. She was one of 14 children. Mrs. Froehlich was a member of St. Joseph of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden and was retired from Plattsburgh State University food service In New York. She had a passion for sewing and making clothes for her grandchildren. Surviving are sons, Richard Froehlich and wife Cathy of Lehi, Utah, H. Daniel Froehlich and wife Karen of Litchfield Park, Ariz., Frederick Froehlich and long time friend, Marian Marzola of Glens Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Suzanne Abbruzzi and husband Angelo of Eden; 11 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Froehlich; and son, David. There will be no formal visitation.
