Marie E. Wilson

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Marie Elizabeth Wilson, 68, of 56 Ruby Road, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at her home in the company of her family, after bravely battling lung cancer for almost a year.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 5, 1937, to Thomas Arthur and Viola (Mansfield) Bellefontaine, she moved to Saranac Lake, N.Y., in 1943 and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1954. She attended the Crouse-Irving School of Nursing in Syracuse, N.Y., graduating in 1957 as a registered nurse, specializing in OB/GYN.

Her family includes her husband of 48 years, Lt. Col. Frank S. Wilson (U.S. Air Force, retired) of Portsmouth; three sons, Scott and his wife Valencia and their children, Ian and Molly of Hudson, N.H., Glenn and his wife Mary and their children, Kyle, Eric, Megan and Emma of Dover, N.H. and Frank and his wife Donna and their children, Laura and Frank of Merrimack, N.H.; and a daughter, Valerie and her husband Michael Liston of Bedford, N.H. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Beatrice Levesque of Portsmouth.

She was employed as an RN in New York City, Merced and Riverside, Calif., and Roswell, N.M. She was present for and assisted in the birth of her eight grandchildren.

She enjoyed all competitive sports, particularly the Patriots and Red Sox, and read the sports pages from front to back each day.

Marie met her husband in Syracuse and they were married on Feb. 16, 1957, in Saranac Lake, N.Y.

Marie and her family have been stationed in California, Texas, Mississippi, New Mexico, Guam, Nebraska, Washington, D.C., Hawaii and Pease Air Force Base, N.H.

She enjoyed downhill skiing with friends and family throughout northern New England and New York. She enjoyed tennis and in her later years took up mountain biking. For the last five years, she and her husband have kayaked most of the major lakes and many ponds in New Hampshire and several rivers in New Hampshire and Maine.

Marie had a beautiful outlook on life and took all matters in stride. She made birthdays, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas special for her family. She took each of her children, each of their spouses and each grandchild out for a day of lunch and shopping on their respective birthdays.

She was the fount of medical advice for the family and was the person family members took their troubles and problems to because she listened, cared and always seemed to come up with an appropriate solution. She will be missed, but fondly remembered by her family and those good friends that she has played bridge with on Mondays for well over 20 years.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saint Catherine's of Sienna Church, Woodbury Avenue, Portsmouth, N.H., at 11 a.m., Thursday.

Victor Pennell

ROCHESTER -- Victor S. Pennell, 89, formerly of 3C Wellsweep Acres, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation in Wolfeboro, where both he and his wife were residents.

He was born Feb. 9, 1916, in Mooers, N.Y., the son of James and Elizabeth (Bosley) Pennell.

He lived in Billerica, Mass., for many years prior to moving to the Rochester area in 1984.

Mr. Pennell was proud to have served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he worked as service manager for Atamian Ford in Boston for many years.

He was a member of St. Mary Church in Rochester, and was a member of the American Legion for many years. He and his wife took pride in helping to raise five foster children over the years.

Surviving family members include his beloved wife of over 59 years, Sadie Pennell of Wolfeboro; two daughters, Shirley Worrington and her husband Arthur of Denmark, Maine, and Cindy Wlodyka and her husband Dan of Manchester; a sister, Sarah Rabideau of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 19, at H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester. A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Mary Church, Lowell Street in Rochester were Father W. Pierre Baker, pastor, officiated. Private burial will be held at a later date.

Hazel G. Pregent

MANSON, MASS. -- Hazel G. Pregent, 88, formerly of Willard Street, Malone, N.Y., died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at the home of her son, Rene Pregent.

Born Aug. 24, 1912, in Rouses Point, N.Y., she was the daughter of Roy and Mae White Marnes.

She married Eudore Pregent, longtime proprietor of Marion's Restaurant in Malone, N.Y., Sept. 21, 1942, in Albany, N.Y. He predeceased her in 1992.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rene and Allison Pregent of Monson, Mass., and Michael Pregent of Malone, N.Y.; and one grandson, Joe Pregent of Manson, Mass.

She lived her life in Rouses Point, N.Y., and graduated from Rouses Point High School in 1936. She then worked for a year and then went on to attend Champlain Valley School of Nursing, graduating with her registered nursing degree in 1941. In 1941, she became employed by the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, N.Y., as a registered nurse. She retired in 1978. She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel, Malone, N.Y. Burial will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rouses Point, N.Y., at noon.

Anthony Petrashune

LYON MOUNTAIN -- Anthony Petrashune, 89, of Pete Street, Lyon Mountain died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., on Feb. 23, 1916, he was the son of Stanley and Sofia (Kwetcian) Petrashune.

Mr. Petrashune is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances Gould of Lyon Mountain, Mary Petrashune of Lyon Mountain and Josephine and Henry Ryan of Dannemora; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Janet Petrashune of Delaware, Michael and Nancy Petrashune of Chazy Lake and Thomas and Jeanette Petrashune of Saranac; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Stanley and John Petrashune.

Mr. Petrashune was employed as a heavy-equipment operator for 30 years by Republic Steel, Lyon Mountain. He was also employed by Talbert's for six years.

He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Lyon Mountain and a member of Polanders Hunting Camp.

Calling hours will be held at the Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 in St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Donald Cramberg officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain.

Donations in his memory may be made to Lyon Mountain Fire Department.

Dayton J. Wakefield

MORRISVILLE -- Dayton J. Wakefield, 90, died unexpectedly at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington Monday, Sept. 19, 2005.

He was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Morrisville, the son of Jamie and Ethel Sweet Wakefield.

He was a 1933 graduate of Peoples Academy and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a navigator during World War II.

Dayton began working as a young man on the family farm in Morrisville but spent most of his professional career in civil service, holding various positions with the U.S. Postal Service, working in Vermont, Boston and New York City. Following his retirement from the postal service Dayton worked as an appraiser for the State of Vermont.

He was a faithful and active member of the Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville, serving in numerous capacities within the church over the years. Dayton has served on the Copley Hospital Board of Directors and the Morrisville Water and Light Board of Directors.

Dayton maintained an active lifestyle up until his death. He walked every day and regularly ran until about five years ago and learned to swim at age 70.

Dayton is survived by two daughters, Marcia J. Richard of Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Deborah L. Wakefield of Salt Lake City, Utah; four grandchildren, Aaron Noble and his wife Gennifer of JeffersonvilIe, Andrew Noble and his wife Theresa of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jessica Middlemiss and her husband Warren and Heidi Richard, all of Plattsburgh; four great- grandchildren, Paige and Rachel Noble and Abigail and Trinity Middlemiss; a brother, Urban Wakefield and his wife Marion of Lyndonville; a sister, Carolyn Fernandez of Northfield; and a special friend, Esther Greaves of Morrisville.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Norma Hathorn Wakefield in 2001.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Puffer United Methodist Church. A reception will immediately follow the services at the church. Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the White-Fiess Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville.

BUDDY LALONDE, 71, of Lafayette Street, Tupper Lake, N.Y., died at his home Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, in the loving company of his family and friends of Hospice.

Born Glenwood Williams LaLonde on July 31, 1934, in Tupper Lake he was the son of John W. and Iva R. (Snyder) LaLonde.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Sept. 22, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jan Blankenship, officiating with Sister Barbara McCarthy. Burial at Lakeview Cemetery will follow with full military honors.

MARJORIE R. STILES, 87, of Center Street, Fort Covington, N.Y., died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at the Massena Memorial Hospital in Massena, N.Y. She had been in ill health.

Born in Bombay, N.Y., April 17, 1918, she was the daughter of the late James and Grace Shorette Collett.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cappiello-McKenzie and Cosgrove Funeral Home in Fort Covington. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Fort Covington with the Rev. Edward Papp officiating. Burial will be in the old St. Mary's Cemetery.
