David F. Thayer

STUART, FLA. -- David F. Thayer, 82, of Stuart, Fla., died after a long illness on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Valentine) Thayer; as well as two daughters, Sally Buynicki and Melinda Howard both of Massachusetts; also three grandchildren, David Buynicki Thayer, Christina Roberts and Katlynn Howard.

David was employed for many years as a vice president of sales in Heubleins Grocery Products Division.

Funeral arrangements are being planned for services to be held at the Norton Cemetery in Keene Valley, N.Y., in the spring of 2006.

Donations may be made to a local Hospice Organization.

Leo N. Peffer Jr.

KEESEVILLE -- Leo N. Peffer Jr., 83, of School Street, Keeseville, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Alexandria, Minn., Jan. 6, 1922, the son of Leo Sr. and Susan (Heiden) Peffer.

Leo was a graduate of Brandon High School in Minnesota, he then joined the United States Navy and served for six years prior to his honorable discharge in 1947.

He married Dorothy Blaise, May 27, 1944 in Atlantic City, N.J.

Leo began his career in the North Country at Prescott's Mill in Keeseville where he worked for many years. He was then employed as a vehicle operator at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base for several years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh, the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072, and was a 4th degree knight with the Keeseville Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Peffer was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, but his true love was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Blaise) Peffer of Keeseville; two children and their spouses, Jean and Donald Craig of Peru and Gary and Kathryn Peffer of Malone; one brother, Claire Peffer of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Ruth Schecker of Phoenix, Ariz., and Leatrice Thorpe of Millerville, Minn.; five grandchildren, Barbie Craig and companion Todd Babbie, Donna and Dean Wright, Kathy and Philip Gizzi, Jared Peffer and David Peffer; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Tia, Bailey, Alexis, Theresa and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Keeseville. Organizations will meet for services at the Hamilton Funeral Home Sunday evening as follows, Knights of Columbus 5 p.m.; Elks 5:30 p.m.; and American Legion 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial and military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad or St. John's Church.

June M. Legacy

BURKE -- June M. Legacy, 83, of Depot Street, Burke, N.Y., died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at her home under the care of her loving family and Hospice of the North Country.

Born in Burke, N.Y., on June 24, 1922, she was the daughter of Warren and Rachel (Jones) Mitchell.

She was married to Earl L. Legacy on Sept. 21, 1946, in Burke United Methodist Church with the Rev. Warren Babcock, officiating. He predeceased her on April 18, 1973.

Mrs. Legacy is survived by two sons, Warren Legacy and his companion Roslyn Gaetano of Malone, N.Y., David Legacy of Burke, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Clark and Shirley Mitchell of Burke, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Robert Legacy of Burke, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Ruth Mitchell Legacy and her husband Elmer; a sister-in-law, Joann Legacy; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas and Doris Legacy.

Mrs. Legacy graduated from Chateaugay High School in the Class of 1940. She received her bachelor's degree from the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing, Burlington, Vt., and did graduate work at the Yale School of Nursing. She was in the nursing field for over 50 years which included supervisor of the Men's Ward at Mary Fletcher Hospital during World War II. Following her marriage, she was employed by Alice Hyde Hospital, Malone, for two years until she became a private duty nurse for area families at Alice Hyde and in their homes which she did for over 40 years. Mrs. Legacy was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Frontier Chapter 203, a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Elks Club, Malone, and the Burke United Methodist Church.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Order of Eastern Star will hold their ritual service on Sunday evening at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, in Chateaugay United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joy Shaffer, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Eleanor Bellows. Burial will take place at Eastside Cemetery, Chateaugay.

Donations in her memory may be made to Chateaugay United Methodist Church, Burke Fire Department or Hospice of the North Country.

Phyllis Parker Mills

PLATTSBURGH -- Phyllis Parker Mills, 78, of Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center.

She was born in Wakefield, Mass., on July 7,1927, the daughter of Oswald W. and Hazel (Steeves) Parker.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth J. Mills of Plattsburgh; one daughter, Karen Mills Miner; two sons, Gregory Mills and G. Stuart Mills; four grandchildren, Jeff and Jason Miner and Jim and Chris Mills; and one sister, Hattie Foster.

There will be no public calling hours or funeral service.

Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of the North Country. The family requests that there be no flowers.

The R.W. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Norman R. Gregoire

PLATTSBURGH -- Norman R. Gregoire, 72, of Military Turnpike, passed away on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 14, 1933, son of the late Adrien and Corine (Landry) Gregoire.

Norman was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh. He owned and operated Gregoire's Appliance and Electrical and was a self-employed electrical contractor. Norman was an avid camper and enjoyed motorcycles. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish.

Norman is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Plattsburgh; 11 children, Deborah and Steven Miller of Glenville, Susan Chaskey of Niskayuna, Anne Gregoire of Saranac Lake, Denise Gregoire and her companion Fred Sears of West Chazy, Rodney Gregoire of Chelmsford, Mass., Michael and Sheila Gregoire of Malta, David and Angela Gregoire of West Chazy, Kevin and Laura Gregoire of Mendham, N.J., Kim Simpson and her companion Jodie Williams of Ausable Chasm, Kevin and Becky Dumas of Plattsburgh, Christopher Dumas of Plattsburgh; a sister, Simone and Floyd Renadette of Plattsburgh; 21 grandchildren, Sarah Miller, Morgan Miller, Emily Miller, Nathan Chaskey, Kimberly and James Toedtman, Joshua Chaskey, Carter Chaskey, Matthew Gregoire, Abbygail Gregoire, Adam Gregoire, Ryan Gregoire, Lauren Gregoire, Nathan Stoddard, Brian Stoddard, Jacob Gregoire, Aidan Gregoire, Kodie Simpson, Erica Dumas, Rachel Dumas, Lily Dumas; one great-grandson, Madden Toedtman; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
