Everett Hayden Lamica

CHATEAUGAY — Everett Hayden Lamica, 69, formerly of Chateaugay died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005 at the Franklin County Nursing Home where he had been a patient since April 13, 2005.

Born in Edwards, N.Y. on Aug. 21, 1935, he was the son of Marshall and Nola (Shepard) Lamica. They predeceased him.

He married Maude Brozzo on Aug. 25, 1956 at Natural Dam, N.Y. with the Rev. William Wood officiating.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, six children and their spouses: Mark and Cleo Lamica of Jacksonville, N.C., Joseph and Carol Lamica of Averill Park, N.Y., Cheryl and Timothy Willing of Jacksonville, N.C., Michael and Joy Lamica of Jacksonville, N.C., Steve Lamica and his companion Staciy of Waldport, Ore. and Tony and Joelle Lamica of Chateaugay.

He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Carmalita and Thomas Niedjiewick of Hamburg, N.J. and two brothers and a sister-in-law Frederick Lamica and his companion Patricia of Fort Pierce, Fla. and Donald and Donna Lamica of Evansville, Idaho.

Nineteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law Brenda Vessell of Brimmerton, Wash. and Elma Velter of Sturgis, S.D. also survive him.

Everett was a man known by many and loved by all. He was a loyal man, serving his country for 21 years in the U.S. Marines and Air Force, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He was honorably discharged in 1974.

From 1974 to 1988, he ran a trash removal business with the help of his wife. He also transported cars for Lyng’s Car Dealership. For nine years he was employed at the Burke Adult Center as a maintenance man and bus driver.

He was a man of few words but a warm heart, friendly smile and strong character.

He was a dedicated husband, father and brother; a loving grandfather and great-grandfather and a faithful friend.

Everett always gave of himself willingly, never asking anything in return. He will be known for his generous heart, keen sense of humor and personal strength and commitment.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Calling hours will be held at the Chateaugay Funeral Home on Wednesday Aug. 17 to 2 to 4 p.m.

A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 4 p.m.

Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Chateaugay with a reception to follow at the Chateaugay American Legion.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Burke Adult Center.

Claire Marie Smith

YONKERS — Claire Marie Smith, nee Carnegie, born July 5, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. William Carnegie of Yonkers, N.Y. died on Aug. 14, 2005 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A proud member of the Greatest Generation, she typified the best that generation has to offer. Prior to World War II she married Edward W. Smith. She supported her country as an Army Corps spouse performing various duties in the bast commissaries where they were stationed, primarily in the southwestern part of the United States.

After the war, the Smiths raised a family of six living in Pittsburgh, Pa., St. Louis, Mo. and Philadelphia, Pa.

In 1956 they moved to Plattsburgh, N.Y. where they opened the Howard Johnson Restaurant on Route 9 and formed Nine Platt Corporation, eventually known as Nine Platt Hospitality Group.

Mrs. Smith performed the functions of manager, hostess, cashier, server and accountant to the fledging business, while raising her young children.

Mrs. Smith was a communicant and ardent supporter of Saint John’s parish, participating fully in school and church events. She was a devoted supporter of Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital and a valued volunteer at CVPH Medical Center for over 30 years.

Mrs. Smith was very proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed traveling, especially to her beloved Scotland. She also traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and took various cruises to the Caribbean, Nova Scotia and Alaska.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her former spouse Edward W. Smith, her children Robert and Diane Smith, Patricia and Richard Marzano, Terry and Kevin Boissy, Trudy Smith, Christopher and Alison Smith, and Craig and Gail Smith.

She is also survived by her sisters Joan Barbey, Peg Desmond, Barbara Battaglia and Rene Meyers and her grandchildren Nicole Rohling, Christine Marzano and Michael Marzano; Katie Ponall, Beth Shuck; Kristin, Lindsey and Michael Smith; Joseph and Sydney Smith as well as her great-granddaughter Emma Shuck.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, a favorite hospital of Mrs. Smith’s, and the CVPH Foundation.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.

The funeral Mass and Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s on the Lake.

MARY MARGARET McDONALD, 94, died at Birchwood Health Care Center in Liverpool, N.Y., where she had been a resident since October 2003.

She was born in Lake Placid July 3, 1911, the daughter of William H. McDonald Sr. and Mary (Curran) McDonald.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Clark Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.

ELVIN N. JONES, 87, of Parkwood Drive in Albany died at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany while surrounded by his family after a 14-year battle with cancer.

He was born April 29, 1918 to the late Zachary and Bessie Jones.

Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Tibbutts Funeral Home in Albany.

In Tupper Lake, friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Richer Funeral Home, 29 Park St. The Tupper Lake Funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Richer Funeral Home with burial to follow at the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

LOUVA A. ROBINSON, 96, of 1067 State Route 122, Constable, N.Y. died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005 at Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vt. She had been a patient there since Friday.

Born in Westville, N.Y. Sept. 27, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Hattie Brooks Avery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Constable.
