John M. Nolan

Keeseville — John M. Nolan, 66, of the Highland Road, Keeseville, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at his home.

He was born in AuSable Forks, Dec. 11, 1938, the son of John D. and Esther M. (Nelson) Nolan.

He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1956.

He married the former Doris L. Pray, April 4, 1959, at the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks. She died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

John was employed with the Town of Chesterfield Highway Department for 37 years. The last 15 of those years he proudly served as the highway superintendent until his retirement in 2003. He also served as assessor for 9 years.

He was a 25-year member of the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department and served as an EMT. He was an EMT and CPR trainer for several years.

John was also a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge 2072 and the Keeseville Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed his old cars, and taking rides, but his true love was spending time with his family.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Becky Nolan and companion Randy Yelle and Betsy and Philip Moore, all of Keeseville; one son and daughter-in-law, Darwin and Brenda Nolan of Keeseville; seven grandchildren, Hayden, Cassidy, Monica, P.J., Tanya, Phalon and Boone; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Peggy and Toni Bombard of AuSable Forks, Ann and Alan "Chic" Rule of Harkness, Betty Bushey of AuSable Forks, Bonnie and Howard Hopkins of Harkness and Esther and Russell Dorr of Clintonville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Louise Nolan of Jay and George and Karlina Nolan of Port Henry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru. Members of the Elks Lodge will meet for a 7 p.m. service. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet for a 7:30 p.m. service. Members of the Keeseville Fire Department will meet for an 8 p.m. service. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru with Rev. Philip Allen, pastor of the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks and St. Matthew’s Church in Black Brook, officiating. Burial will follow in the Port Douglas Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Sara R. Severance

Peru — Sara R. Severance, 88, of Brown’s Court, Peru, died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in AuSable Forks, March 13, 1917, the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Whisher) Keyea.

She served in the United States Army.

Sara was employed at Roger’s Company in AuSable Forks and the NYS Mental Hospital in Wassaic.

She enjoyed reading and cooking; and will be remembered as giving and loving person.

Survivors include a sister, Gladys Folan of Plattsburgh; a sister-in-law, Phoebe Whisher of Bloomingdale; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters, Marion Moquin, Bertha Wrisley and Rita Beardsley; and brothers, Ezra Whisher, Francis Whisher and Joseph Whisher.

There will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks with Rev. Philip Allen, pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Black Brook.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Peru Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are by the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru.

Ellouise Betters

WILMINGTON — Ellouise Betters, 91, died on Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born May 2, 1914, in Clear Lake, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry and Belle Brown Hagene.

She was a member of the Pals Club in Wilmington, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Whiteface United Methodist Church in Wilmington and a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters and one son and daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Betters of Wilmington, Mary Saltmarsh of Wilmington, and Federick W. and Deborah Betters of Lake Placid; five grandchildren, Michelle Betters of Upper Jay, Jennifer Betters of Texas, Tim Saltmarsh of Wilmington, Samantha Betters of Lake Placid and David Saltmarsh of Bronx; one brother, Fred Hagene of California; two sisters-in-law, Alice Betters of Lake Placid and Edna Bombard of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Milton Betters, and two brothers, Frank and William Hagene.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Haselton Cemetery in Wilmington.

Memorial donations may be made to the High Peaks Hospice, Wilmington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad and E. Cooper Memorial Library for the Children’s Corner.

A reception at the Holiday Lodge in Wilmington will follow the graveside service.

Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Marion A. Bowers

Port Henry — Marion A. Bowers, 96, of Port Henry and more recently of The Lord Howe Estates, Ticonderoga, N.Y., died Friday, July 29, 2005, at her daughters home in Port Henry.

Marion was born at Webster, N.Y., on Sept. 4, 1908, the daughter of the late Maurice and Mattie (Simmons) House.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Bowers; her daughter, Devona (Midge) Davis; her grandsons, Dale Bowers and Davis Towne; her sons-in-law, Anthony Popp, Earl Davis, Eugene Williams and James Towne; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Bowers; six brothers and five sisters.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Elaine Popp of Mineville, Bernice Towne of Crown Point and Alice Williams of Port Henry; her son, Wayne Bowers of Schenectady; brothers, Glenn House of Mexico, N.Y., and George House of Grand Island, Fla. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Union Cemetery, Moriah, N.Y.

Memorial donation may be made to the High Peaks Hospice, Port Henry, NY 12974.

CLARA (OTT) DINEEN, 77, formerly of Keeseville and Plattsburgh, N.Y., died of cancer in Fountain Valley, Calif.

Services will take place at Dilday Mortuary in Huntington Beach with burial in Mohovy Valley, Ariz.
