Yolanda Lahtinen

Mineville, N.Y. — Yolanda Lahtinen, 89, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

She was born March 19, 1916, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to Stephano and Mary Teresa (DiMarco) DeSimone. She raised her family in the Town of Moriah and retired from the Moriah Central School where she worked in the food service department.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Lahtinen (1961); her daughter, Patricia (Lahtinen) Dorazio (2002); her granddaughter, Melissa (Lahtinen) Penfield (1999); her brothers, Antonio, George, John and Alfred; and her sisters, Argie DeSimone, Lillian Abbott and Rena Martin.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Lahtinen of Gouverneur and Linda (Thomas) Slattery of Mineville; two sons, John (Eleanor) Lahtinen of Plattsburgh and James (Maureen) Lahtinen of Pittsford; her brother, Thomas (Barbara) DeSimone of Keeseville; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be private at the convenience of the family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18, at 11 a.m. from the Church of All Saints in Mineville.

The Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Yolanda may be remembered by a contribution in her name to the charity of one's choice.

Mabel Patricia (Greenway) Axtell

FLORIDA /UPPER JAY — Mabel Patricia (Greenway) Axtell, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at her son’s home in Upper Jay, N.Y. She was born March 7, 1919, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, to William and Hazel (Dines) Greenway.

Mabel married David Webster Axtell in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada. They lived in Boston and Milton, Mass., Deerfield, N.H., and Belleair and Florida to be with her daughter and family and spent summers in Upper Jay, N.Y., with her son and family.

Left with wonderful memories are one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Jean (Vincent) Axtell of Upper Jay; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Michel Proctor of Florida; three grandsons, William Hale, David Webster Axtell and Michael David and fiancée Michele Vernese; one granddaughter, Donna M. (Missy) Proctor and her husband Savoy Barryman; three sisters, Elaine Breitkrenuts and Louise Steer of British Columbia, and Myrtle Sanners of Saskatchewan, Canada; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband, David Webster Axtell; and two brothers. Keith Greenway and Sidney Greenway.

Services will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or Hospice of Saranac Lake, N.Y.

Norman V. Kavanaugh, 76, of Ellenburg Depot, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, as the result of an automobile accident.

Arrangements were incomplete Thursday evening at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

Donald J. McIntyre Jr., 48, of 54 Pearl St., Malone, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt., where he had been a patient since July 12.

Born in Rochester, N.Y., April 4, 1957, he was the son of the late Donald and Ruth (Banker) McIntyre Sr.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joseph Selenski officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in Malone.
